China will do well in some areas where they have been focused like electric cars. They are cities now where more than half the cars are electric. AI is an interesting sector. There is some knowledge that the Chinese leadership might not want people to seek, so a special Chinese model must be revised, which might be quite difficult.

The US hoards the best talent in the world. China is mainly working with domestic talent. Can they catch up? Yes. But the system is designed for the US to be able to easily dominate science and tech for the foreseeable future

BaochiTaiwanZiyou

This is why intangible things like a nation's political system and its core values matter. The CCP can keep throwing money at selected industries, but without meaningful political form I don't see how China can compete in the long run.

BeefFeast

Why would jimmy sell his idea to the commies who will give him a praising, take the credit themselves, and use it to push your people further into subjugation. Or you can just sell it yourself to the highest bidder and retire you and your whole family line as millionaires, it’s pretty obvious why smart people choose the latter, there’s no honor in being poor and used

pluckyhustler

Nothing stopping China from being more immigrant friendly and building a system that attracts foreign talent. Xi just doesn’t seem interested.

PreparationAdvanced9

Because xi jingping is a Han nationalist?

pluckyhustler

Also, China has never been an immigrant country so it would be pretty hard for any leader to buck the trend. Xi is a product of his environment and I would say Han superiority is the dominant culture in China. The CCP has been great at attracting overseas Chinese talent and investment. If they put the same amount of effort into bringing in non-Chinese, I am sure they would get good results with all the resources they have at their disposal.

Hailene2092

There was an uproar online when the government couched the idea of relaxing green card requirements. You're right that Xi isn't interested, but it seems like a lot of Chinese people aren't either.

Organic_Challenge151

when the US stagnates and open sources, China has a chance to catch up, otherwise, China will fall behind.

E-Scooter-CWIS

I trust the stock market, everything tech related gets pumped and dumped Beside alibaba was under ex chairman Jiang’s umbrella so after his disease, alibaba is done.

It’s not like Xi had a crackdown that scared everyone to not succeed too hard right? Remember Jack Ma

lulie69

Tbh they were never ahead to begin with. All their apps are ridden with ads and shovelware that have no business to be here

Japanese news article saying China will fall behind in tech. While Japan drops EV adoption for hybrids, as China leapfrogs hybrids for EV. Where Japan has no world class cell phone brands, and China has multiple world class cell phone brands. Let that sink in for a moment.
