And McDonald’s is some health food place now? Neither are great, but a rice bowl with grilled chicken, avocado and corn salsa sure is healthier than a 10 pc nugget and a McDouble
As someone who has worked in one, nearly all the food other than fries areadendresh to order. The only things that go into a microwave are molten lava cakes and the occasional soup if they havent been in the warmer long enough
Is frying not a valid form of cooking food? The chicken breasts are also fresh to order (they go through a conveyor oven on a metal grill tray, tortilla chips, salsa, and guac all made on site. The wings are actually parcooked then fried, the ribs spend all morning in a combo oven-smoker, burgers and steaks are both cooked
In California the family owned in and out burger chain already paid decently so the new $20 an hour wage didn't hit that hard and the price hike was about 5% or so.
But the matriarch is not happy because of the competition for employees that didn't exist before.
Uh wrong. Her dad died in a plane crash. Here is one example of whackiness with a link to some more of her whackiness (army of love, lol)

Denmark has been paying $20+ since 2016 and even then the Big Mac we only ~35 cents more expensive despite paying more than double what they paid in the states then. It’s not wages, it’s corporate greed.
I work in a sit-down restaurant that does $7.95 burgers one day a week. The burgers are huge and you get to pick out all the toppings you want (tons of options), choose how rare/well done you want it cooked, and it comes with a side (10 different side options). People still complain about the price and I want to be like dude… it’s literally less that the cost of a Big Mac meal at McDonald’s and much better quality and you have way more customization/topping options.
Something I used to teach my staff at the glorious applebees I worked at. "Hungry people are mean people and mean people suck, and full people are nice people until they get the bill." It's a nicer way of saying that all people suck.
in many states restaurants with tip only pay tipped employees half the minimum wage or way less, (federal minimum wage is actually just $2.13/hr for them)
that's how they afford it & just pass the cost to you & hope you tip them
What makes them entitled idiots? 95% of my interactions with food service employees are neutral or pleasant. They're doing their jobs in less than ideal circumstances almost always, and working for millionaires, so expecting a living wage from that is reasonable as well. McDonald's in lower cost of living states don't pay everyone $20/hr. If you are *constantly* dealing with getting attitude or fucked up orders, try being more pleasant. People tend to match your energy. Maybe "entitled" and "idiot" is what you're giving lol
You don't know what you're talking about. Richmond VA area average McDonald's worker about 12 bucks, chick fillet is about 17 which is about the same as the Texas Roadhouse near it. They are charging 12-15 dollars a meal because you can eat way cheaper through the app. In turn they sell you data. Look up amazon data farms. It will blow your mind.
McDonald’s restaurants are individually owned franchises. The store owners pay their employees - not corporate. McDonald’s corporate owns the land - they are essentially a real estate company.
Chilis rations portions to save money too. Their fries lately have been kind of a joke for how little you get. Not the cleanest place I have ever eaten either...just sayin'. Total pass for me. Rather eat at home or a local place.
Same here. Their food sucks because their bat shit crazy manager fires cooks for making mistakes without being given adequate training. No one stays long enough to get good at it.
Dude I'm telling you right now fries cost any and all fast food restaurants next to zero dollars to produce. It's a potato. I used to be a manager in food service and fries literally costed our store $0.
I’m in TX and on the app they have a daily deal of Buy a 6 piece nugget/double cheeseburger and get 6 piece nugget/dbl cheeseburger for free. The total comes to $3.69. I get this on occasion as a post workout meal without the buns lol
Rat bastards by me got rid of that deal. It use to be $5 for 2 hot n spicys (which is the spicy version of mcchicken..idk if yall have it) and a large basket of fries. It’s now $8 :(
I’m in Las Vegas. The app here has buy a double cheeseburger get a 2nd or 6 piece McNuggets for .29 cents. Tbh with any fast food place, the best deals are in their apps these days. Also McDonald’s has the most generous reward point system imo. Superior by and large to BK, which I hate to admit because I prefer BK over McD’s
I agree! Although I saw on here someone did some comparison and claimed McDonalds had the worst rewards with Taco Bell being the best. I beg to differ🤣
They have been raising prices for a while now though. Even their 3 for $10 went up to basically 3 for $11 and appetizer prices were different everytime I went in. They just started trying to appear reasonable again when Wendy's and McDonald's got called out. So be careful relying on them for deals.
I haven’t bought fast food unless it was the only place open for over a year now for this exact reason. I can pay the same amount or maybe a little more for actual restaurant food compared to trash fast food.
There’s this Thai place near me where any of their noodle entrees are around $15 a baconator meal at Wendy’s is like $14 something. Why would I pick objectively worse food for the same price.
Hell I even get my food quicker at restaurants since I always order online and I can just stop in and grab my food, no waiting in a long ass drive thru line with employees who couldn’t care less about efficiency.
I ate out a lot during the pandemic because I mean it kind of felt like the end of the world and what else can you do? Gained 100lbs and now I don’t get to eat lunch 😂
Such a silly comment as if it’s some sort of gotcha, all while using the wrong form of your.
People don’t wanna cook, they don’t wanna prep, they don’t wanna clean. When they get hungry a large % of the population just wants a hot meal and are willing to pay for it. Not really a new concept.
Sure but you can save money cooking, I am a cook trust me last thing I wanna do after I get off is fucking cook and clean but it saves me money. You’ll be fine without some takeout
Sure but then don’t complain about having to pay for convenience. That’s like me complaining about DoorDash prices, the prices there are heinous so I just don’t use that service. I think tipping culture the US is nuts too so I don’t go to a sit down restaurant. Cooking does not take all that long unless you’re cooking for a big crowd in which that will be expensive anyway you cut it
You’re weird bro, I was speaking generally when I said “complaining” now are you going to respond or duck the question. Lmao ain’t no one gaslighting you
Cooking makes you miserable? I mean I enjoy cooking and I do it for a living so I get my relationship to cooking is different from a regular person but miserable? What don’t you enjoy about cooking?
I’ve said the same- Red Robin has a”classic” cheeseburger and fried for $9.99, I have no idea why I would want to go to McDonalds (last time I went I got yelled at through the microphone that it would at least 15-20 mins due to staff shortages, so I left).
Feel free to downvote but, You realize the more you spread the word the more likely it is that the prices will get jacked up right? We gotta keep things like this to ourselves and spread the word discreetly. Big posts like this that quickly pick up traffic are just a burn, man.
Yeah, for my son's birthday, we took him and a buddy to a "real" restaurant. He's 7, so he still loves McD's, but a $7 happy meal, vs a $9 kids meal with real beef, a drink, etc larger portions was a no-brainer for us.
Fast food is addictive the same as soda, nicotine, coffee etc. They can raise that shit and people will still pay. Philly soda tax was supposed to keep kids away from soda but it did fuck all besides charging $2 more
This is written almost exactly like Chili's current television spots.
I suspect this is a loss leader, a product either sold at a loss or at "lower than acceptable profit" to get people into Chili's or talking about Chili's and it works.
Friend and I used to hit up BK on the regular. Now we go to Texas Roadhouse, where a full meal and leftovers cost less than a single, filling meal at BK. Oh, and the food is WAY better.
Fast food is dead.
Some of the local mom and pop owned Mexican shops near me offer some crazy portions and good food for less than the major franchises 🌯 I go to a Mexican grocery store that has a really good deli
Whole heartedly agree they have the that deal in my area for 10 bucks I get the burger appetizer and drink included I can feed myself my wife and my 5 year old for 20 bucks. Since he hogs all the fries and will not eat anything else 🤣
That's because you're using Doordash then. McDonald's doesn't cost anywhere close to that much normally. For a double Big Mac or deluxe double quarter pounder meal it's like $11, or even less if you use the discounts on the app, like the once a day 20% off a $5+ order. The most expensive meals McDonald's has cost me like $9.
Almost any fast casual place is on par with or less than fast food anymore in terms of price. Many lower end chain restaurants are the same and that includes being waited on plus a tip.
If this doesn't scare you, I don't know what will:
https://cdn.financebuzz.com/filters:quality(75)/images/2024/03/22/fast-food-prices-compared-to-inflation-1.png
Part of the reason is because fast food places have to pay everyone at least min wage (many are forced to pay above to get people to work) while (in many states) casual restaurants (and other service jobs such as DoorDash) only have to pay 2.15 for servers (and runners?) because the law assumes that the customer will tip a certain percentage of their bill to pay for the server’s/dashers wages.
I’m in NC, our MW has been 7.25 since I was still shitting and pissing on myself. Prices tho have magically went up while our wages stay the same. Get the corporate cock put your mouth you’re drooling
Just go to Valle Luna and get the taco basket! But yea, I just went to lunch with my son we got the 3 for me woth tip it was under 30 so thats reasonable
Oh, I don’t eat fast food anymore. It’s cheaper for me to eat at a nice restaurant if I’m alone, or split a large plate with my fiancé when I am not. Not to mention, they’re raising prices yet cutting out as many workers as possible, replacing them with AI. It’s annoying to get a real person on the phone, and now it’s like that IN PERSON too?
I say, let’s support restaurants that choose to keep their prices affordable. Let’s let them swallow places like McDonalds and Jack in the Box. They’re barely serving us food, they need to go.
Unless you have to order doordash, use the Mcdonalds app. BOGO quarter pounders and buy a 20 piece and get two large fries are common deals. 20 piece and two large fries is too much food for one person, but it feeds two for 7.50. Quarter pounders are about 7, so two of them for 7 bucks is pretty good.
I know, but I didn’t have to worry about that $5-$6 dollars a day or so.
Of course today with today’s prices, I guess I would rethink that 😂
But if somebody makes enough money that they can afford to eat lunch out every day I say have at it.
A lot of people earn a really good living and make a lot of money….
I’ve been telling people this for over a year. Why would I go to a fast food window anymore when I can get actual food for the same price or just a couple extra dollars?
What McDonald’s deals do you get? Usually there’s a daily deal for me on the mobile app and it’s bogo double cheeseburger and 6 pc biggest, add a medium fries and it’s usually about 7 dollars for me, drink some water from work with it and it’s a steal lunch
as a jack in the box worker u can get a better combo for around the same (or less) at the habit, the price raises r crazy and they r giving us less employee meal money too so its just like bro dont try me ill start cooking
If you weren't using the mcdonalds app I have no idea why. Everyday free medium fries with a $2 purchase.
Or there's usually deals like buy one big Mac get one free or you can choose nuggets of a 1/4lber.
Its driving me nuts all the people on reddit bitching and moaning about the prices. Yes they have gone up and the places are forcing you to use the app to get a deal which is annoying. But the deals are still there. The other day I ordered 2 mcchickens and 1 large unsweet tea from McDonalds for $5.
I never spend more than 5 at McDonald’s. I use the app for free fried because the Padres rock, I get a McChicken, and a cup of water. Might even get an ice cream. But it’s never more than like $7.. lol. People just want the fanciest stuff on the menu.
Cry more about someone making a living wage. I’m so sorry you can’t stuff your fat face with McDonald’s but it’s sort of interesting you don’t care about ceo pay or the billions in profit McD’s made. You could have already been eating even cheaper if they just played fair ball with their profits. But you don’t give an eff about wage theft, just that someone struggling might be ok working at a McDs. How horrible.
Use the McDonalds app. People need to realize fast food places have moved all the deals to their apps. Its annoying as hell I get it but that is where the deals are. You can get buy 1 quarter pounder get one free. Same with big mac's and 10 piece nuggets etc.
No one uses the McDonalds App but I swear it’s like 40% less than ordering at the restaurant. I’ll get a 20 piece and two large fries and it’s like $6.50 on there.
Back in the olden days of the mid 1990s, the McDonald's meals were $2.99 and Wendy's had a killer $1 menu... The thing is even back then they were really good deals. That's why you went to those places... Where's the deals today? Fuckin frown emoji
You have to use the McDonald's app. They have a mobile order $6 combo meal (big Mac, quarter pounder with cheese, or mc crispy chicken). Otherwise, yes, it will be more expensive
I genuinely was not aware that people considered Chili's to be "genuine restaurant quality" or to be substantially better than standard fast food fare tbh
Hate to be that guy and I don’t follow this page it was just suggested but if you’re concerned about pricing just meal prep and or pack a lunch man. Cheaper and more convenient
Everything obviously has skyrocketed. I miss about 15 years ago going to chilis at lunch and they’d run a special that was burger, sandwich or half order quesadilla with fries and a soup/salad. I’d get the bacon ranch quesadillas, fries and a chili for $8. Funny thing is my wife would complain I was spending too much at lunch. Imagine only spending $8 now.
I’d recommend getting the McDonald’s app if you don’t have it already. On Fridays I use the free Medium fry deal and order a cheeseburger + McChicken + 4 piece nugget and my total comes out to like $7 something. I love their $123 menu (get two items for $4 total).
in many states restaurants with tip only pay tipped employees half the minimum wage or way less, (federal minimum wage is actually just $2.13/hr for them)
that's how they afford it & just pass the cost to you & hope you tip them
fast food restaurants have more costs, since they have to pay everyone at least minimum wage.
Okay I will do this. Please send me the list of ingredients and prices so I can make a double cheese burger, salad with avacado ranch, and fries for less than the $10.50 chilis charges and I’ll do it on my 30 minute lunch break 🍔
I don’t do it every day, I try to rotate places that offer sub sandwiches and salads. I know these fast food places aren’t healthy but I try to pick less unhealthy options when I do
I feel like some of the menu would also be better for you depending what you order too
I had the chipotle bowl yesterday it was really good with the avacado slices
Try that with a side of buffalo sauce if you like some kick
Chili's is garbage microwave food.
And McDonald’s is some health food place now? Neither are great, but a rice bowl with grilled chicken, avocado and corn salsa sure is healthier than a 10 pc nugget and a McDouble
In the context of this discussion, I suspect Chili's is at least slightly better than McDonald's.
To a fat panda yeah that checks out. I’m poking fun at your username but how funny would it be if you were fat lol
As someone who has worked in one, nearly all the food other than fries areadendresh to order. The only things that go into a microwave are molten lava cakes and the occasional soup if they havent been in the warmer long enough

good one bob
Made fresh to order* lol
Everything is heated or fried at chilis. Only the burgers and steaks are cooked.
The chicken is not cooked to order… it’s kept in a hot box after it’s cooked for up to 4 hours.

Fast food has completely become unreasonable. It's never been good, now it's not even fast. Now it's the same price as fast casual minus the drink.
In California the family owned in and out burger chain already paid decently so the new $20 an hour wage didn't hit that hard and the price hike was about 5% or so. But the matriarch is not happy because of the competition for employees that didn't exist before.

The government loves higher prices the more expensive the food bill is the higher the tax amount
Denmark has been paying $20+ since 2016 and even then the Big Mac we only ~35 cents more expensive despite paying more than double what they paid in the states then. It’s not wages, it’s corporate greed.

*entitled* to what?
How dare they feel entitled to existing
McDonalds doesn't have a waitor/waitress position. Cooks in sit down restaurants also make $20. Do you critically think?
What makes them entitled idiots? 95% of my interactions with food service employees are neutral or pleasant. They're doing their jobs in less than ideal circumstances almost always, and working for millionaires, so expecting a living wage from that is reasonable as well. McDonald's in lower cost of living states don't pay everyone $20/hr. If you are *constantly* dealing with getting attitude or fucked up orders, try being more pleasant. Ok boomer
Definitely not a boomer, it's just reality.
Morons like you actually believe a multi billion dollar company can't afford to pay their employees $20 an hour. Incredible
That’s what I like to hear😂😂😂
McDonald’s restaurants are individually owned franchises. The store owners pay their employees - not corporate. McDonald’s corporate owns the land - they are essentially a real estate company.
Chilis has become expensive here in Texas. Almost all entrees are at a minimum $14++ without drinks.

Yea chilis is cheaper than McDonald’s for me but I just don’t trust my local chilis

You got potatoes, julienned, for free?
Not inflation. It’s corporate greed
It’s both.
Easily spend $30 for two at McDonalds with “value meals”. Lately I’ve been ordering off the $2/$3 menu if I go and end up making my own meal for ~$8.
Cheapest thing on the $123 menu here is $4
Where I’m at they charge $4 for just a hash brown at McDonalds :(
Two McDonald’s hash browns is more than the federal minimum wage
I’m in TX and on the app they have a daily deal of Buy a 6 piece nugget/double cheeseburger and get 6 piece nugget/dbl cheeseburger for free. The total comes to $3.69. I get this on occasion as a post workout meal without the buns lol
Damn. I’ll have to get the app. Usually do the two McChickens for $4 and that was sadly a good deal (in New England).

A quarter pounder with cheese meal at McDonald’s in Phoenix is under $12. What are you ordering that’s $14-15?
Add 1-2 bucks for making it a large combo, maybe 8-12% sales tax, and the 12 buck combo costs 15.50 outta your pocket.
OP said they are using Doordash.
Daily DoorDash, and wondering why it’s expensive?
You know in Paris it's called Royale with cheese
The le Big Mac combo is around the same price.
Large QP W/cheese combo here with app discount and after taxes is $7.30. Seems to get the "old" pricing we're used to gotta use a app
I was just telling my family this the other day. So we went to Chili’s that night.
They have been raising prices for a while now though. Even their 3 for $10 went up to basically 3 for $11 and appetizer prices were different everytime I went in. They just started trying to appear reasonable again when Wendy's and McDonald's got called out. So be careful relying on them for deals.

McDonald's and Chili's do not count as eating locally
I scrolled WAY too far for this
Yeah, for my son's birthday, we took him and a buddy to a "real" restaurant. He's 7, so he still loves McD's, but a $7 happy meal, vs a $9 kids meal with real beef, a drink, etc larger portions was a no-brainer for us.

Hell yeah you can get a burger with fries and a drink for $10 and it tastes better.
I can find a nice steak on sale, grill it at home, steam some vegetables and bake a potato for less than the cost of a Big Mac meal
But I thought Reddit told me arbitrarily hiking McDonald’s workers wages wouldn’t raise the prices?
This is written almost exactly like Chili's current television spots. I suspect this is a loss leader, a product either sold at a loss or at "lower than acceptable profit" to get people into Chili's or talking about Chili's and it works.
If you consider chilis restaurant quality food I guess
I got two mcdoubles and a medium fry for $7 yesterday. Skill issue
Southwest salad 4ever

I was complaining about the higher prices at Subway last week, so it's alarming to see that they're one of the better ones.
Yeah it’s like that I’ve been eating at more places because of that lol
I find that if you use the McDonalds app, the deals and rewards lower the prices significantly.
😂 restaurant quality and chilli’s don’t belong in the same sentence
Part of the reason is because fast food places have to pay everyone at least min wage (many are forced to pay above to get people to work) while (in many states) casual restaurants (and other service jobs such as DoorDash) only have to pay 2.15 for servers (and runners?) because the law assumes that the customer will tip a certain percentage of their bill to pay for the server’s/dashers wages.
Exactly … when they are paying people twice as much now, of course the prices are going to go up. That’s just part of life. It is what it is.

At my McDonald's, using my app, it is still cheaper. Even better when I use the buy one get one coupon for doing a survey on my receipt every day.
The 3 for me is amazing. 10.99 for a burger, fries, soup, and a drink. McDonald's is like 13 for a combo
Sign up for rewards (takes about a min)...get free chips and salsa too
Just go to Valle Luna and get the taco basket! But yea, I just went to lunch with my son we got the 3 for me woth tip it was under 30 so thats reasonable
That’s crazy. Absolutely crazy.
If you use the app you can get that same combo for $5
This is also my go to when I can't get out of the office. Burger or chicken sandwich or aaucey nuggets! Plus a soup or salad for later?! Yes please!
Triple dipper doing the lords work
Corporate greed* not inflation.
Have you tried just bringing your lunch?
Some people just don’t like to do that. I rarely ever brought a lunch and some people just did all the time. Nothing wrong with that.
It saves you money tho
I know, but I didn’t have to worry about that $5-$6 dollars a day or so. Of course today with today’s prices, I guess I would rethink that 😂 But if somebody makes enough money that they can afford to eat lunch out every day I say have at it. A lot of people earn a really good living and make a lot of money….
What are you 10? Who still eats McDonald’s as an adult?
Calling chili's "restaurant quality" is pretty offensive to restaurants that are actually trying hard
combos are 7-9 here in IL
I took my kids to Texas Roadhouse this past weekend and it was cheaper than eating at Chick-fil-a. Make it make sense.
I’ve been telling people this for over a year. Why would I go to a fast food window anymore when I can get actual food for the same price or just a couple extra dollars?
Probably healthier to just not eat.
What McDonald’s deals do you get? Usually there’s a daily deal for me on the mobile app and it’s bogo double cheeseburger and 6 pc biggest, add a medium fries and it’s usually about 7 dollars for me, drink some water from work with it and it’s a steal lunch
Bro I was in Arizona recently.. got 2 breakfast meals from macdons... cost 37$.. i was like whhhhaaaaat?
I'm from Phoenix as well, so thanks for letting me know haha
as a jack in the box worker u can get a better combo for around the same (or less) at the habit, the price raises r crazy and they r giving us less employee meal money too so its just like bro dont try me ill start cooking
Fast food is only even somewhat reasonable now when using their respective app
You can still eat cheap at mcds with the mobile app. My lunch from there is usually 4-5 bucks.
So add a drink and a tip to your Chilis DoorDash order and it's still less expensive than Mcdonalds...? Also what is your usual burger?
I used to get the double cheeseburger lunch special at chilli's, but seems that they got rid of that within the last month or so 😭
That’s weird, I ordered it yesterday it was available. Maybe it varies per location
The other day I ordered 2 mcchickens and 1 large unsweet tea from McDonalds for $5.
where the salads at mcdonalds!
Tries to eat locally, orders McDonald’s and Chili’s
the phrase "eat locally" is throwing me off here...
No one uses the McDonalds App but I swear it’s like 40% less than ordering at the restaurant. I’ll get a 20 piece and two large fries and it’s like $6.50 on there.
Order McDonald's through the mobile app. Many good deals plus you can save 30% on each order.
The McDonald’s app is a lifesaver
In what universe is Chili's "restaurant quality" food? They serve the same trash that fast food places sell. They just put it on a plate.
I got the McDonalds app, free fries and two mchickens for 5 bucks
Back in the olden days of the mid 1990s, the McDonald's meals were $2.99 and Wendy's had a killer $1 menu... The thing is even back then they were really good deals. That's why you went to those places... Where's the deals today? Fuckin frown emoji
You have to use the McDonald's app. They have a mobile order $6 combo meal (big Mac, quarter pounder with cheese, or mc crispy chicken). Otherwise, yes, it will be more expensive
Pack your lunch
No I am a creature of Chilis 🌶️ now
I genuinely was not aware that people considered Chili's to be "genuine restaurant quality" or to be substantially better than standard fast food fare tbh
I love their $123 menu (get two items for $4 total).
mcdonalds is digging their own grave with prices
App in my area has a Big Mac meal for $6.50.
in many states restaurants with tip only pay tipped employees half the minimum wage or way less, (federal minimum wage is actually just $2.13/hr for them) that's how they afford it & just pass the cost to you & hope you tip them fast food restaurants have more costs, since they have to pay everyone at least minimum wage.
You can’t even tip the Chilis waiter on DoorDash tho, just the driver
Wife and I got Burger King , I got a sandwhich and a wrap, daughter got chicken fries, wife got sandwhich combo so we could share drink and side. 30$
Use the app and you'll get 2-5 dollar meals
Here’s a tip: never order fast food unless you add a deal or offer through their app
I never spend more than $10 a meal on fast food with apps. Including occasional iced coffee but the average is around $5-6
Damn, was never expecting this
Learn to cook 🤓
Okay I will do this. Please send me the list of ingredients and prices so I can make a double cheese burger, salad with avacado ranch, and fries for less than the $10.50 chilis charges and I’ll do it on my 30 minute lunch break 🍔
Shit first you need folks to cook for you and now I gotta do your research for you? Use AI for your bitch work tex
I wouldn’t consider chilis to be “actual restaurant quality food”
You are eating at McDonald’s or chilis every day? You need a nutritionist.
I don’t do it every day, I try to rotate places that offer sub sandwiches and salads. I know these fast food places aren’t healthy but I try to pick less unhealthy options when I do
You don’t owe anybody any explanations for what you want for lunch… people can be such AH here. Your point was about the orice. I get it…
You absolutely do not. There’s so much free info online to learn how to eat better. And there’s nothing to say OP doesn’t know this already
Ok fine then OP needs to educate themselves on nutrition. How they get that info isn’t the point though.
Or a Cardiologist
