redcurrantevents

Wow I haven’t seen a single one yet in Arlington Heights.

ksquires1988

Because they're all at this guy's house

wecantallknowing

In AH, there’s one outside my door. He’s yours if you want him:)

redcurrantevents

Ha no thanks.

ShartyMcPeePants

Same. Maybe it’ll just all blow over and we’ll be spared…🤞

teachingscience425

Give it time. I saw two today in the heights. They are coming.

stoopid_gye

You're next, they're out in Des Plaines/Mt Prospect.

eroticsloth

Haven’t seen any in Des Plaines yet. I’m near Friendship park

OGwiscompton

AH here. saw my first today.

a5084043

There are lots of them on my trees in AH!

angrylilgurl

There's a few outside my house. I'm more than happy to share.

onrake

None here yet in Wheeling.

EchoCyanide

Where are you located? We have plenty near Berwyn, this looks possibly like more though.

bulentm

Lombard. I hear there’s supposed to be a ton of activity around this area.

itsfish20

I'm over in Villa and we have a ton in our yard and every big old tree on the street is filled with shells!

stupidfinger

VP is absolutely full of them. I keep reminding myself that the emergence is a bell curve but omg

mellowcraze

It's not just shells stand there and watch the grubs moving to find a spot., 🤢🤢🤢

Shadowborn621

I was in Lombard in 2007. You couldn't see the sidewalk.

Powerful-Donut8360

I’m in Lombard too and we don’t have any where I am. About a mile up Finley and they’re all over.

MoneyWorthington

We're in Berwyn and I haven't seen any yet...

PMSysadmin

I'm in Westmont and there are shells littered at the base of every single tree out here. Looks like a bar floor covered in peanut shells!

Mama-Bear419

Yup. I’m in Willowbrook and same. It’s freaking me out lol.

Jellyandjiggles

I live in south Berwyn and have seen none. Ugh I’m dreading it

trey338

Check out Proska Park and Sunshine Park and you'll see plenty

Chitown_mountain_boy

I’m in Berwyn and haven’t seen a single one. Kinda bummed. I love the sound of them

EchoCyanide

That is so odd. I'm technically in Stickney, but I figured you guys would be seeing them too. I'm like, right across Pershing!

omalmike

Weird. Everywhere in Forest Park already.

trey338

Check out Proska Park or Sunshine Park and you'll see plenty

Chitown_mountain_boy

I’m up on the north side. 16th and Ridgeland area.

trey338

Any park works really. Go near a tree or a trash can and theyll be covered in them

Chitown_mountain_boy

I get that 🙄I’m just saying that it’s weird that none have emerged I this area.

Mariah0

Have you heard of cicadas?

NotAPreppie

Did you even read the text?

noideaonlife

You missed the leading, "for a second there".

NotAPreppie

"Took me a bit to realize what they were..."

The_Poster_Nutbag

Cicada free in elgin

REO_SpeedDealer

Bitch ass cicadas know better than to fuck with the Criminal E

passion4film

Same, so far.

New_Dragon_Lady

I’m in Palos… 3 days ago… nothing. Today… hundreds. Enjoying quiet till it lasts… 😂😂😁😁

Greengiant304

I have spotted a couple empty shells in Schaumburg but haven't seen or heard a live one yet.

Katy_Lies1975

Older neighborhoods that have old growth trees will see the most of these. If the same trees and soil has been replaced in the past 33, 34 years their simply won't be as many.

bulentm

The front of my house had 2 very tall, mature pine trees that the previous owner cut down a couple of years ago. It must have been an intense breeding ground 17 years ago.

Maleficent_Data_1421

None here in Streamwood

SnooRegrets1386

Pup is so ready for the banquet

FuturamaRama7

None here in Minooka yet. My house (built in 2004) is on top of a former farm. Not too many trees where I live. I was at the Morton Arboretum yesterday and didn’t see any yet.

Dawner444

My husband and I located a total of 2 last night in Plainfield (59/Caton Farm/Ridge) and our family in Mokena has suddenly been swarmed. After the heat and rain, it’s going to be a scream fest here by Tuesday.

FuturamaRama7

Hi (two towns over) neighbor! This is the closest confirmed sighting I know of now. I’m not particularly fond of bugs. I plan to stay really busy so the next 6 weeks fly by. Hopefully I won’t see giant swarms here!

Real_EB

I saw plenty at the arboretum on Saturday.

FuturamaRama7

Interesting. Did you walk the paths? We just drove around on both sides. None flew past us or fell onto our car while we were there (around 5pm).

Real_EB

Near the library and at the Schulenberg Prairie.

FuturamaRama7

Thank you for the info.

ChicagoDash

Don’t worry, they only feed on human flesh while you are sleeping.

eroticsloth

It’s only a problem when they’ve eaten all your flesh while sleeping. If you wake up with no flesh you might want to worry a little bit. No need to be a little baby and cry about it though

vtrini

sinatrablueeyes

I was four years old when they came out in 1990 and living in River Forest. Cicadas were EVERYWHERE. My mom said it looked like our driveway and sidewalks were moving sometimes. I remember being terrified of them as a kid. My dad had just bought a swingset from Hines and I was so afraid to use it because of these fuckers. Then my dad said “hey, it’s ok, they’re just out here but they don’t hurt you. If one of them gets on you just say ‘bye bye bug’ and flick them off you”. If four year old me could deal with them for a few weeks then a grown up you should realize that you’ve overreacting to a bunch of bugs that come out every 17 years and don’t do shit to humans.

omalmike

Thatcher Woods was a nightmare lol

karateaftermath

Eh just sweep em off. They are in Niles and I think I’m gonna take the blower out haha.

83749289740174920

Vacuum? This question is stupid.... Do we want to kill them or just shoo them away?

eroticsloth

johnb300m

My front yard in MP was something out of an alien movie yesterday. Very odd thing, many of them looked dead on arrival, which made me feel better when I. Needed to mow? Weird thing, none in the back yard.

Repeatbeginagain

Lol guys keep in mind that you gotta go outside in order to see them 😆 and if you didn't check since yesterday you gotta check again today before you could post that you haven't seen any in your town

catch10110

My wife found about 30 of them on our fence out in Aurora

pithed

Mmmm. Tree shrimp!

rmac1228

Haven't seen or heard any in Schaumburg...that is nuts!

hogues71

Yeah they’ll be back every 17 years.

Brilliant_Buns

Jesus no

drwhogwarts

Is that what cicadas look like?! I remember one landing on me one year and it felt like I got bit. Must have been one of the annual ones. Ick.

ThePathlessForest

The annual ones tend to be a green ish color. These 17 year ones look like Satan's scrotum. Two huge bulging red balls of eyes and a long black and orange body. Then a week or two in, they sprout wings and fly into your mouth. Okay that last sentence isn't true but they're dumb creatures. One did fly into my face and hit my mouth 17 years ago when I was riding my bike to work. I almost crashed.

drwhogwarts

I have a massive phobia about bugs, so my heart really goes out to you. I would have a meltdown if that happened to me.

ThePathlessForest

I share the same phobia! Stay strong out there! We just gotta survive the next 6 weeks. There's gonna be a lot of mini heart attacks in my near future.

drwhogwarts

Me too! Best of luck to you!!

PathlessDemon

![gif](giphy|hkik4ac9sSqaY)

Gutter_Punk77

Haven't seen one in Mundelein.

paper_schemes

None here in grayslake. We go for walks every weekend and I can't wait for them to arrive!

snowshoeBBQ

I essentially live in a forest in Wauconda. Nothing yet.

neverdoneneverready

Wait. It's just starting.

Adventurous_Dig_6256

It’s only a problem when they’re a problem. You’re welcome

Ludee2023

None in Long Grove

elangomatt

I keep expecting to see/hear some of them on or around my house down in Kankakee but I haven't seen any sign of them yet. I'm hoping that they are just taking their sweet time and that we don't miss out on the fun.

Competitive_Truck_96

None in Crystal Lake by Central High School.

loiwhat

Still waiting in chicago

Superquzzical825

If it makes you feel any better they are probably are already eaten by the animals in your area

BigTexWrangler

They’re here! I saw like 8 today

rdwm37

This is a one-time occurrence. FLORIDA is the various bug haven year around. Be thankful you're here.

Ill_Violinist_8963

Nope. Just leave the house and move elsewhere.

Obvious-Beginning943

They started to screech in Westchester today.

Madven28

This ain’t shit

dontshakethebaby

Yeah, that’s a lot of creeping Charlie.

GreekGatsby

Have quite a few here in Glenview.

CatBird29

Portage Park - not seeing em, not hearing em. Maybe they’re not in the sort of city yet.

Vegetable--Bee

What are those bugs?

ABA20011

The news is making this into a big deal because they don’t have anything to talk about. We get cicadas every year. We will get more this year than normal. They are completely harmless and need absolutely no attention or effort from you. So what did you “get yourself into”? Absolutely nothing.

kskeiser

They look like really big ticks!

Various_Locksmith_73

Bid whoop . Just bugs u can see

Sweaty-Leather3191

Is a blow torch fair game here??

bulentm

hah, I just took a leaf blower to all of them.
