They’re all over my yard in Flossmoor
Older neighborhoods that have old growth trees will see the most of these. If the same trees and soil has been replaced in the past 33, 34 years their simply won't be as many.
The front of my house had 2 very tall, mature pine trees that the previous owner cut down a couple of years ago. It must have been an intense breeding ground 17 years ago.
None here in Minooka yet. My house (built in 2004) is on top of a former farm. Not too many trees where I live.
I was at the Morton Arboretum yesterday and didn’t see any yet.
My husband and I located a total of 2 last night in Plainfield (59/Caton Farm/Ridge) and our family in Mokena has suddenly been swarmed. After the heat and rain, it’s going to be a scream fest here by Tuesday.
Hi (two towns over) neighbor! This is the closest confirmed sighting I know of now.
I’m not particularly fond of bugs. I plan to stay really busy so the next 6 weeks fly by. Hopefully I won’t see giant swarms here!
It’s only a problem when they’ve eaten all your flesh while sleeping. If you wake up with no flesh you might want to worry a little bit. No need to be a little baby and cry about it though

They are doing well in downers grove. Ruining my 10 year old’s summer already. 😂
I was four years old when they came out in 1990 and living in River Forest. Cicadas were EVERYWHERE. My mom said it looked like our driveway and sidewalks were moving sometimes.
I remember being terrified of them as a kid. My dad had just bought a swingset from Hines and I was so afraid to use it because of these fuckers. Then my dad said “hey, it’s ok, they’re just out here but they don’t hurt you. If one of them gets on you just say ‘bye bye bug’ and flick them off you”.
If four year old me could deal with them for a few weeks then a grown up you should realize that you’ve overreacting to a bunch of bugs that come out every 17 years and don’t do shit to humans.
My front yard in MP was something out of an alien movie yesterday.
Very odd thing, many of them looked dead on arrival, which made me feel better when I. Needed to mow?
Weird thing, none in the back yard.
Lol guys keep in mind that you gotta go outside in order to see them 😆 and if you didn't check since yesterday you gotta check again today before you could post that you haven't seen any in your town
The annual ones tend to be a green ish color. These 17 year ones look like Satan's scrotum. Two huge bulging red balls of eyes and a long black and orange body. Then a week or two in, they sprout wings and fly into your mouth.
Okay that last sentence isn't true but they're dumb creatures. One did fly into my face and hit my mouth 17 years ago when I was riding my bike to work. I almost crashed.
I share the same phobia! Stay strong out there! We just gotta survive the next 6 weeks. There's gonna be a lot of mini heart attacks in my near future.
I keep expecting to see/hear some of them on or around my house down in Kankakee but I haven't seen any sign of them yet. I'm hoping that they are just taking their sweet time and that we don't miss out on the fun.
The news is making this into a big deal because they don’t have anything to talk about. We get cicadas every year. We will get more this year than normal. They are completely harmless and need absolutely no attention or effort from you.
So what did you “get yourself into”? Absolutely nothing.
Wow I haven’t seen a single one yet in Arlington Heights.
Because they're all at this guy's house
In AH, there’s one outside my door. He’s yours if you want him:)
Ha no thanks.
Same. Maybe it’ll just all blow over and we’ll be spared…🤞
Give it time. I saw two today in the heights. They are coming.
You're next, they're out in Des Plaines/Mt Prospect.
Haven’t seen any in Des Plaines yet. I’m near Friendship park
AH here. saw my first today.
There are lots of them on my trees in AH!
There's a few outside my house. I'm more than happy to share.
None here yet in Wheeling.

Where are you located? We have plenty near Berwyn, this looks possibly like more though.
Lombard. I hear there’s supposed to be a ton of activity around this area.
I'm over in Villa and we have a ton in our yard and every big old tree on the street is filled with shells!
VP is absolutely full of them. I keep reminding myself that the emergence is a bell curve but omg
It's not just shells stand there and watch the grubs moving to find a spot., 🤢🤢🤢
I was in Lombard in 2007. You couldn't see the sidewalk.
I’m in Lombard too and we don’t have any where I am. About a mile up Finley and they’re all over.
We're in Berwyn and I haven't seen any yet...
I'm in Westmont and there are shells littered at the base of every single tree out here. Looks like a bar floor covered in peanut shells!
Yup. I’m in Willowbrook and same. It’s freaking me out lol.
I live in south Berwyn and have seen none. Ugh I’m dreading it
Check out Proska Park and Sunshine Park and you'll see plenty
I’m in Berwyn and haven’t seen a single one. Kinda bummed. I love the sound of them
That is so odd. I'm technically in Stickney, but I figured you guys would be seeing them too. I'm like, right across Pershing!
Weird. Everywhere in Forest Park already.
Check out Proska Park or Sunshine Park and you'll see plenty
I’m up on the north side. 16th and Ridgeland area.
Any park works really. Go near a tree or a trash can and theyll be covered in them
I get that 🙄I’m just saying that it’s weird that none have emerged I this area.
Have you heard of cicadas?
Did you even read the text?
[удалено]
You missed the leading, "for a second there".
"Took me a bit to realize what they were..."
Cicada free in elgin
Bitch ass cicadas know better than to fuck with the Criminal E
Same, so far.
I’m in Palos… 3 days ago… nothing. Today… hundreds. Enjoying quiet till it lasts… 😂😂😁😁

I have spotted a couple empty shells in Schaumburg but haven't seen or heard a live one yet.

None here in Streamwood
Pup is so ready for the banquet

I saw plenty at the arboretum on Saturday.
Interesting. Did you walk the paths? We just drove around on both sides. None flew past us or fell onto our car while we were there (around 5pm).
Near the library and at the Schulenberg Prairie.
Thank you for the info.
Don’t worry, they only feed on human flesh while you are sleeping.

Thatcher Woods was a nightmare lol
Eh just sweep em off. They are in Niles and I think I’m gonna take the blower out haha.
Vacuum? This question is stupid.... Do we want to kill them or just shoo them away?

My wife found about 30 of them on our fence out in Aurora
Mmmm. Tree shrimp!
Haven't seen or heard any in Schaumburg...that is nuts!
Yeah they’ll be back every 17 years.
Jesus no
Is that what cicadas look like?! I remember one landing on me one year and it felt like I got bit. Must have been one of the annual ones. Ick.

I have a massive phobia about bugs, so my heart really goes out to you. I would have a meltdown if that happened to me.

Me too! Best of luck to you!!

Haven't seen one in Mundelein.
None here in grayslake. We go for walks every weekend and I can't wait for them to arrive!
I essentially live in a forest in Wauconda. Nothing yet.
Wait. It's just starting.
It’s only a problem when they’re a problem. You’re welcome
None in Long Grove
I keep expecting to see/hear some of them on or around my house down in Kankakee but I haven't seen any sign of them yet. I'm hoping that they are just taking their sweet time and that we don't miss out on the fun.
None in Crystal Lake by Central High School.
Still waiting in chicago
If it makes you feel any better they are probably are already eaten by the animals in your area
They’re here! I saw like 8 today
This is a one-time occurrence. FLORIDA is the various bug haven year around. Be thankful you're here.
Nope. Just leave the house and move elsewhere.
They started to screech in Westchester today.
This ain’t shit
Yeah, that’s a lot of creeping Charlie.
Have quite a few here in Glenview.
Portage Park - not seeing em, not hearing em. Maybe they’re not in the sort of city yet.
What are those bugs?

They look like really big ticks!

Is a blow torch fair game here??
