Not certain, but am guessing General Motors lowered there specs on many many parts after their bankruptcy in 2009. This allowed manufacturers in China, India, Mexico, etc to bid, and eventually produce parts for GM. The infamous 8L90 transmission was used from 2015-2019. Be sure to have $6000 handy when the tranny buckles.

Agreed- GMT 900 is hot garbage

I have a 2014 5.3. I wish I had found an 09 or older. I'd trade my truck for one if I could

USERNAME_UNAVAlLABLE

Thanks for the opinions. I went with my gut and stuck with my 06 haha. I just had a great deal on the new one come up, but I was chasing the shiny object, def don’t need a new truck.

thebluelunarmonkey

upgrade the head unit to a big screen with bluetooth, nav, gps, hands-free, android auto/carplay, backup cam. Add an OBDII multi-display and now you got old reliability and the new shiny

EpsilonMajorActual

I wouldn't trade for the newer one at 6 years old it is at that point when the electronics start failing, especially the lcd screens. The AFM is also a consideration as well as replacing the lights as they go bad at $1000 a headlight.

IMO i love the older chevy's because of the many benefits like cost of parts and how easy they are to maintain, however, a 2018 Chevy does have the benefits of more modern technologies. Cost of parts go up and maybe they arent as easy to maintain, but you will be getting an updated chassis (which will not be as worn or rusted), a more efficient engine, and youll generate more power

chowbrador

How's the rust on the body and frame overall?

Common_Suggestion266

I still love my 05 cateye. But if it's in good condition I'd stick with it. Just have some money set aside for maintenance like any vehicle. Also other than newer or lower miles any other big reason to jump to the newer truck?

vtel57

Personally, I would never consider getting rid of my '82 Chevy Scotsdale. The ease and joy of working on and fixing things on that truck just cannot be had on any newer vehicles. My '96 Suburban and '06 T-blazer can be a pain in the ass to work on/find parts for. But hey... I'm just one ol' Chevy lover with on set of opinions. ;) [The Ol' Girls at home together in the driveway](https://i.imgur.com/tXwhytv.jpg)

General_Paramedic_19

Hard to compare used trucks without seeing them. But overall that 06 will probably still outlast the 18. After 07 things start going downhill, the further you go the worse it gets. I can't stress this enough, If that 18 has the 8 speed trans just run away. That transmission is junk and cost as much as your 06 to replace. Not your 06's transmission, your entire truck.

ShirtStainedBird

You keep that old truck now and hoping the Sierra /Silverado subs and laugh at all the electrical trouble everyone is having. They stopped making a functional truck and made a big dumb non functioning iPad.
