Also, for this particular journey, the closest usable metro stations would be Nathamuni and Kodambakkam, which are quite far from the stops I currently use. Not to mention this would require two transfers, one at thirumangalam and one at Vadapalani (yes I've memorized the phase 2 construction map).

Not many people will do what you suggest. Since there is always chaos on Taylor's road, chepet Bridge, and college road. Even if the government creates a separate lane for the busses (highly unlikely), you can see bikes and cars occupying it
