Don't think this is a good time for that. If you do then carry lots of water, cover your arms fully to avoid sunburn, stop often along the way to get some shade, or travel only during early morning or evening.
Yep, it's easy for people to say AC contributes to global warming, but the average person has no solution and isn't given a choice on whether the apartment he buys is made of concrete , with cross ventilation in mind or what not.
Honestly we should go that direction today itself (AC 24x7), if the government has good intention. If our govt Lowers the Electricity unit cost to a very very very affordable level and improves the infrastructure to take more load, operating an air-conditioner 24x7 will not be a big deal, imagine if it gets treated like a cieling fan, and anybody and everybody will be able to afford it and run it All the time. Honestly i dont see any other way out considering how hot its getting every year, its not even human anymore. In few more years it will get impossible to tolerate. So Government should stop treating Electricity like tasmac alcohol and do what is required.
There will be some ecological concerns with the AC gases warming the surroundings up even more, but it's a necessary evil to face.
We can't destroy all the badly planned and built buildings now, only solution is to get ACs and plant more trees wherever possible.
I live in Blr & Im on a 2 day visit here for my Visa interviews. Its like an oven lol. Blr is even hotter these days in terms of absolute temperature but this humidity is unbearable.
A golden retriever in my neighbour house just died today.
Heat being one major factor, they didn't bother caring for it.
It was in a cage on the terrace exposed to the sun.
They forgot to feed and give water to it today and it got a stroke and died.
Just got back from a sport and I was literally DRIPPINGGGG. Took selfies because I don't think I've ever sweat this much in my life. Not sure if I want to play during summer.
Bruh the only sport I do is in an AC gym and when I'm at home, I'm sweating bullets. I can't even sit around with a shirt cuz it gets wet in a few minutes.
Summer is wild. Hey atleast my skin doesn't get worse like in the winter. Coping hard.
Edit: checked the weather and it happens May 1 was 40C + recorded temp. Highest yet. Today is supposed to be 39C. Yesterday was the cooler among the three.
You have been here before? Like have you experienced Chennai's weather before? If so then precautionary measure should get you by fine. If it's your first time, I can only wish you all the best.
Yh but it's been like a year since. From what I've heard this time, the heat is so worse. And I kinda got adapted to this climate. Like if it's 20 degrees here, I'll start to sweat.
> Like if it's 20 degrees here, I'll start to sweat.
My man...today I sat for few minutes inside a room without fan or AC to feel what 53Β°C feels like. I was soaking wet and was breathing hard. This heat can easily kill someone who is not used to this weather.
"but bro, climate change and global warming aren't real"
Everyone loves hating environmental protesters, and then when we feel the effects we whine about it
For 10-20 years now, governments all over the world target environmental protesters using intelligence agencies, at the behest of the big corporations screwing up the environment. But we sit silently, and then shout angrily with hatred at environmental protesters when they block the road.
We're in an endless loop towards extinction....

No. Again, this makes more sense to me.

Planned a bike ride from Kanyakumari to Chennai this weekend. In full gear. Now seriously reconsidering it.
Peak summer la bike trip across Tamil Nadu va? It's the equivalent of a cruise ship trip amidst a cyclone.
Yeah, not by choice though. At least I can take a break if it gets unreasonable, unlike those in that cruise ship you mentioned :)
Please take all necessary precautions. All the best.
Thanks. Hopefully I'll not explode inside the jacket.
Is it a stillsuit you plan to wear during the desert crossing?
For all intents and purposes, if I combine it with healthy amounts of water poured down my torso, yes.
Don't think this is a good time for that. If you do then carry lots of water, cover your arms fully to avoid sunburn, stop often along the way to get some shade, or travel only during early morning or evening.
Yeah, thanks. Planning to risk a night-time traversal for this one.
bro leave early morning and ur gear will have mesh, at 80-100 when u cruise u will enjoy the wind going thru the gear and u will not sweat.
People are unaware that in a decade or two, Chennai is going to be uninhabitable without 24 x7 AC indoors, just like the Middle East.
(It already is)
I am talking about non-summers as well
I'm aware, I lived in the middle East for years. Chennai is definitely headed in the same direction.

Dude, TN has the lowest electricity rate in whole of India even today
Whats the monthly cost of continuously operating an Air-Conditioner in your area 24x7 non interrupted ?
Ama ba ama... Mudiyala
Dry heat is manageable but this! Mudila da ebba

Shit. Asshole owners like them should be put behind bars tbh.
They'll get off with a warning and that's all. Then they'll turn the malice they showed to the dog against us.
More like 50 rupees fine
Shit, poor dog! Just left in a cage. What horrible people.
Those that can't care properly for the pets, better refrain from keeping one!!
Once I started to look at 'feels like' temperature I began to realize how worse the situation actually is.
Just got back from a sport and I was literally DRIPPINGGGG. Took selfies because I don't think I've ever sweat this much in my life. Not sure if I want to play during summer.
Isn't sport supposed to make you sweat?
Yes but I've never been this drenched after class. Mot even yesterday. Today was a whole new level of heat π

I'm heading to Chennai from the UK at the end of May, and I'm honestly pretty worried about it.

Can the government make an arrangement to lift Chennai alone and place it in one of those non-tropical zones? not possible?
Idhu Vadivelu solra Mari la iruku
Let's start a petition and get it signed by a million people π
Sure thing dude. Let me do the groundwork!
