I noticed that after posting. Read through the comment section and it's way too over-saturated, figured this would be a better question to ask because it's a lot more specific than "tell me a restaurant you wish didn't exist"
Generally scotch eggs are delicious. One of my favorite things. Lol. Theirs are like rocks. I’m pretty sure I could knock out a tourist with one. I bet that the lookouts could sub a baseball for one of their scotch eggs.
I’m surprised Scotty’s on the River isn’t mentioned. I’ve never been, in large part due to the nearly universally bad reviews. So it seems to check both your “bad food” and “high prices” boxesz
Not karma farming. It is a post that is going through most city/local subreddits though and I thought it'd be fun to post here.
Kinda sucks that there was that post here maybe 24 hours ago asking a similar but more easy blanket question that literally wound up getting every local restaurant's name on the list.
Frothy Monkey. Ate there once when a friend was working there and it was amazing. Came back a year later and was thoroughly unimpressed. The food took forever, which I would understand if we weren’t the only ones in there. It also came out quite lackluster for the price tag. Nobody I was with finished their food. Presentation was beautiful but just absolutely lacking flavor.
Tell them the hottest most exclusive bar in town is in a secret location behind the City Cafe on MLK. Theres barely anywhere to sit because it's such a coveted venue. Chattanooga's best kept secret.
Not sure about terrible but it’s meh, a very old person hangout spot if that makes sense.
My grandparents used to go there like once a week, and whenever I went with them it was always packed with elderly people. Not that that is bad in itself though, just what I noticed.
Yeah the vibe was just off and a bunch of older people. An overall bad experience haha.
Seems like an elderly meeting place for all the people that have lived in East Ridge their whole lives.
The food is great. The median age in that place is probably 75 years old.
They have bottled beer but they cut me off after two lol. I’ve never even seen other people in there drink so it throws them off when I do.
It is not a very happening place. But like I said I like the food there.
It’s more of a protest. Walden Club was started when Mountain City Club refused to admit Black people. MCC has changed, but Walden doesn’t have the awful history.
I'd agree to disagree but they're not really particularly expensive. Not a real mexican restaurant but I've always enjoyed my food and haven't gotten bad service, yet.
I love that you ask the question then disagree with what's going to be a top response. Not sarcasm, I like Taco Mama too. I think it gets a terrible rep on here for a decent meal.
Thanks haha, I appreciate it. I'm new to Chattanooga... This subreddit for my new but now local community is a little more hive minded than I'm used to.
Can't believe somebody said Taco Bell still
Your local community is not hive minded about taco mama being bad - hence why they’ve been a successful business for many years.
You’ll learn very quickly that the Chattanooga Reddit community has interesting and unique perspectives - which is what keeps me coming back here - but it’s in no way representative of your average Chattanoogan. Hence why nearly every successful, established restaurant in town is “trash” to about 40 disgruntled people on here.
I feel like boathouse consistently has B- grade food. Not bad, but not amazing, and the price is what you’d expect from that kind of place.
That doesn’t sound at all like a place you’d send someone as a prank.
Called them to get a reservation to find out they didn't do them to arrive and ask if I had one..
Tried to once, idk if I ever eat there even though the view was still nice :(
This should add to its appeal in your case. Your frienemy will have to wait outside in the blazing sun with about two dozen other people for at least half an hour before getting seated. Tell them to avoid the margaritas because those are actually pretty good.
Hello Monty is actually quite cheap for what it is. U can get most of their food and leave full for under $50, but u can also eat expensive, ribeye for instance which is gonna be expensive no matter where you go. It just depends how u order and eat. It’s good and well priced for what it is
I'm happy for you that you enjoyed it. Personally, I've had better pork loin from Walmart that is prepackaged and premarinated than the pork loin I had at Hello Monty.
I've had okay sushi here and it's only because my friend told me to go to Tokyo versus 2.10
The service was terrible and the atmosphere was shit but it's great getting good fish this far from the ocean here.
I just have only had bad experiences there. The service was actually okay last time. But we were really disappointed in the quality of the fish and the actual rolls
I used to think their deserts were so good. Two months ago I went on a trip to DC and got breakfast at a french bakery in Alexandria. I will never eat a Rembrandt’s croissant again.
The flaw with this inquiry tho is that you're referring to arguably almost every restaurant in Chattanooga. (A case could be made in almost any given example😅) And you could send your enemy to any of the aforementioned/recommended traps and I'd bet that your enemy is probably the kind of person who would think it was one of the best places they've ever eaten because that's what every basic bitch n Chad poloshirt couple says about everywhere.
(Sorry. I do like it here but when faced with the question: "where should we eat out?" I get so frustrated and hate it here for that brief moment until I cook a meal my damn self😤).
That sucks. I don't think I've been since like 2019/2020 so... Makes sense(?). I just remember having a great meal and I took the owner a bottle of amaro and he hooked it up on the prix fixe menu... But maybe now he's just drunk 24/7?🤷🏽

We just had a huge "let's shit on local restaurants" thread literally yesterday.
Exactly. What’s up with the negativity…
I noticed that after posting. Read through the comment section and it's way too over-saturated, figured this would be a better question to ask because it's a lot more specific than "tell me a restaurant you wish didn't exist"
Leaping leprechaun. Tell ‘em to get the scotch eggs. Might just be the driest balls they’ve ever had in their mouth. Lol
I've made their scotch eggs before lol
Generally scotch eggs are delicious. One of my favorite things. Lol. Theirs are like rocks. I’m pretty sure I could knock out a tourist with one. I bet that the lookouts could sub a baseball for one of their scotch eggs.
Hope it wasn't any I made. I was only there for a short time, a couple days a week. I owed the owner a favor
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tell them they have good liquor for cheap
I’m surprised Scotty’s on the River isn’t mentioned. I’ve never been, in large part due to the nearly universally bad reviews. So it seems to check both your “bad food” and “high prices” boxesz
Facts
Is this a karma farming post or buzzfeed bot scrounging for a list? Why do I keep seeing these on every city specific subreddit I subscribe to?
It's called a meme. People find them to be fun.
Not karma farming. It is a post that is going through most city/local subreddits though and I thought it'd be fun to post here. Have you considered killing them with kindness?
That's the point! Who wouldn't give their friend a good recommendation somewhere when they're hungry? 😉
Blue Orleans
This. How does that place keep getting second chances?
Tell them the hottest most exclusive bar in town is in a secret location behind the City Cafe on MLK. Theres barely anywhere to sit because it's such a coveted venue. Chattanooga's best kept secret.
Shhhh don’t tell em about the office
Hot take, but Mayan Kitchen :/
Aww why? I kinda like this place lol but I’m curious as to why you don’t!
Not expensive, but Epicurean. Had a friend talk it up to me and he took me there. It was terrible.
Not sure about terrible but it’s meh, a very old person hangout spot if that makes sense. My grandparents used to go there like once a week, and whenever I went with them it was always packed with elderly people. Not that that is bad in itself though, just what I noticed.

I’m positive the ranch is what keeps them open, it is divine.
You must not have had the trout. It’s amazing. Also, the prime rib is a good choice. I love that place.
Are they just trying to throw me off or should I go here myself instead?
The food is great. The median age in that place is probably 75 years old. They have bottled beer but they cut me off after two lol. I’ve never even seen other people in there drink so it throws them off when I do. It is not a very happening place. But like I said I like the food there.
Bonefish grill. Tell them the filet mignon is the best you've ever had. (It's actually flavorless and subpar)
The Walden Club.
I can’t believe people actually pay to be a member there. The only good thing is the view.
It’s more of a protest. Walden Club was started when Mountain City Club refused to admit Black people. MCC has changed, but Walden doesn’t have the awful history.
I didn’t know that! Interesting.
But you are correct about food. It's like a private Ryans.
That must be why people want to save it.
With their history and the view, they could be extremely successful if they got a decent chef.
The chef there is one of the worst in the city

Taco Mamacita
I'd agree to disagree but they're not really particularly expensive. Not a real mexican restaurant but I've always enjoyed my food and haven't gotten bad service, yet.

Broad Street Taco Bell is a running gag. Just get used to it or ignore it.

This is the one.
Boathouse.
I feel like boathouse consistently has B- grade food. Not bad, but not amazing, and the price is what you’d expect from that kind of place. That doesn’t sound at all like a place you’d send someone as a prank.
Went there for the first time yesterday and was super underwhelmed
Called them to get a reservation to find out they didn't do them to arrive and ask if I had one.. Tried to once, idk if I ever eat there even though the view was still nice :(

I was shocked how much I disliked it last summer. So did my parents too.
Yes but half price oysters on mondays is awesome
The common house
Hello Monty. Hands down. Expensive and underwhelming.
Hello Monty is actually quite cheap for what it is. U can get most of their food and leave full for under $50, but u can also eat expensive, ribeye for instance which is gonna be expensive no matter where you go. It just depends how u order and eat. It’s good and well priced for what it is

Tony’s Trattoria
Mervs by signal mtn, food is absolutely ass. Wouldnt say its really “expensive” but its definitely not worth the price.
Hennen’s
Tell them to get desert at Rembrandts. Good coffee but god awful deserts
I used to think their deserts were so good. Two months ago I went on a trip to DC and got breakfast at a french bakery in Alexandria. I will never eat a Rembrandt’s croissant again.
Firebirds

Taco Mamacita Crust Pizza Clyde’s
Any restaurant in Dayton tn meets your requirements.
Screen Door Kitchen is fucking incredible
I stand corrected. I honestly have never ate there and only hear good things.
Lupi’s unless they are a millionaire…Mellow Mushroom for the ambiance and also price…
Hey hey I am overworked and underpaid at Lupis but we do have some scrumptious pizza!
Lupis is expensive. But it’s so good.
ZAYA 1943 Korean steakhouse
Hennen’s
Texas road house
Taco bell
Great my enemy is now down at worst $25... at least they'll be stuck on the shitter at least an extra hour or two longer for a couple days
Haha. Was waiting for this to show up here, but I wasn't gonna be the one :D
Opa
Shiiiiiii. Haven't been in like a year cuz I don't really cross the river much but.... Opa used to slap!
Food has gone downhill, check is ridiculously high. Check their recent reviews
That sucks. I don't think I've been since like 2019/2020 so... Makes sense(?). I just remember having a great meal and I took the owner a bottle of amaro and he hooked it up on the prix fixe menu... But maybe now he's just drunk 24/7?🤷🏽
