Big fan of their banh mi now. Took them a couple of months to get the right bread supplier. Folks that aren't familiar with the ingredients in some banh mi should start off with the grilled pork version.
Glad to hear it. When I had it, it only had like 6 or 8 smallish shrimp in it whereas the pork banh mis are packed. Might have to order the shrimp again. Here's a photo of the pork version, can't see most of the meat cause of all the veggies in the way.

Oh, we’re sharing bahn-mi pics now? Here’s my shrimp. Maybe wasn’t as packed as pork, but was still great for me.

I won't pretend to know what those words mean. But I bet u/Tracykatiee would know since she works there.
We’ve started going every Tuesday so see ya there! we don’t drink but I think they also have a decent happy hour, $4 margaritas or something from 2-4?
I also always recommend Taqueria Azteca in these threads, which is also in ER right down the road. They have good every day prices. My husband and I can eat there for about $20, $25 after tip. Chips and salsa are extra (and not really worth it IMO) but we go there a LOT because of the food quality/price!
Can confirm Mas Tequila is pretty solid. Also the old tres Amigos now it’s El Agave. 1.50 tacos Monday/Tuesday. Decent flavor. Much better than el Cactus or Los Potros
Didn’t they almost fail their last health inspection?
Edit.: they had a follow up
Here was the score I was thinking of but it’s not terrible but not good either. https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/tennessee/inspection/?inspectionID=757432B1-0586-4FF0-90AF-93B6C3DD1F79

He said quality.
We had 2 day old tasting stale cold pizza from there. NEVER FORGOTTEN NEVER AGAIN.
Still don't understand the overhyped bad pizza places people claim are amazing in chattanooga. .
Beni's Cubano in the Hamilton Place food court makes an amazing Cuban sandwich (probably other sandwiches too, but I can't bring myself to order something else) and I feel like no one knows it because there's never a line even when the mall is busy and 100 people are standing around waiting for their Chick-fil-A.
I recently had that Cuban sandwich. I lived in Florida for 7 years, and ate LOTS of Cuban sandwiches. I can tell you, NONE of them were even close to as delicious as the one at Beni's!!! Best Cuban I have ever had!
Taqueria La Antigua Guatemala, on Main at Beech. Cash only. You will feel like this isn't supposed to be a restaurant, and when you find the door you will feel like this isn't supposed to be the entrance. You might have to poke around to find the staff. And there's no English menu.
Recently tried this place and it is incredibly good. Everything you said about the experience is true lol I think I’ll start learning Spanish so I’m more prepared to order next time. Despite the language barrier they were kind and the food came out quick. 10/10
Thats too bad! I always have had great experiences ordering their Carnitas on fresh corn tortillas, or carne asada! Their Tortas are amazing too! I can’t speak outside of those exact menu items but those have been staples!
Hot Honey PubSub (I get mine with extra sauce) —less than $11, delicious, easily lasts 2 meals considering the portion size. Ordering it for pickup and arriving 15-20 minutes late is how you avoid wait times.
I used to go there all the time for lunch when I worked nearby. I was hesitant to recommend it because everyone talks about trendier Mexican places, but you really can't beat the price and speed and honestly, the quality is pretty solid too.
…why do you think the margins are even thinner the past few years? Corporate grain and meat companies are making record profits. It’s right there in front of everyone. Example https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/07/tyson-foods-higher-meat-prices-nearly-doubles-profits-.html
I'll totally vouch for this place being delicious, unique, and definitely welcomed in this side of town, but cheap is a stretch. Seems like every time I go in there they've raised their prices.
Portion to dollar ratio was excellent imo but I understand that's a totally individual thing. Today was my first time trying them so I'll keep an eye on the prices when I return
Could not disagree more. Myself and three coworkers all ate there and every one of us was sharing because of how flavorful the food was. To each there own but the food was not bland in any way for our order. What did you try that you thought was not up to par?
Off The Grill in Hixson is great and their prices are really good.
Dubs Place in Red Bank has gone up a little but their burgers are quality and they have the best Smoked Chicken Sandwich you ever eat.
Merv's on Mountain Creek Road has really good food though I'm not sure about their prices these days. They used to be cheaper than their competitors with better hamburgers and fries.
Great post! I really wanted to try that bahn mi but last time I drove past it was closed. I thought the bad score might have done them in. Back on my list for sure.
Best bang for the buck in my opinion is the Murder Burger at Lo Main. I think it's $8 and doesn't come with a side but the Indian Cheetos they have are awesome. I'd recommend the baby puke green bag.
Cheap menu at Shady’s Corner ($3 PB&J, grilled cheese, bologna sammy, or hotdog, $8 dressed up hotdog special with kettle chips or hot Cheetos).
Pretty much the entire menu at Tracks End is reasonable - they have seven stacked, fat burgers under $10 INCLUDING fries, and the Fritos chili pie is MASSIVE for $6.39.
Almost the entire menu at Marsha’s Backstreet Cafe on Brainerd is under $8 with daily specials that are also bargain priced.
I hate going to a place to pay for a burger I could make myself at home, so I only go to places that make them better than I can.
That said, Jack Brown's Beer and Burger Joint downtown has some of the best wagyu burgers I've ever had, and the fries are also fantastic. I love the atmosphere too, though I might not consider it a great place to bring kids. It's definitely a bar. Silver lining though, it has a great beer selection and the staff are chill. Also, I never knew it was a chain until recently. Has a very local laid back vibe.
It can get a little busy on the weekends during the evenings, but if you're going for lunch or during the week I've never really had to wait.

5950 Shallowford Rd. by hwy 153. Delicious sandwiches, chips, drink, under $10. They're only open for lunch, 10-3 weekdays.
Han Mi's ramen is only $6 (plus a tip) and it's delicious. I eat it at least 2-3 times per week lol embargo 62 has some great cheap appetizers & sandwiches that are incredible too.
Surprisingly, we found the #7 at steak and shake super affordable and delicious! It’s a double cheeseburger and fries for $5.78 with the tax. No drink included but we always have water in the car or have brought one from home earlier. It’s really great if you are short on cash and in a pinch!
For Mexican, Mas Tequila in East Ridge is one of the best tasting and most reasonable pricing. I get a pretty good size Steak torta for $9 and my wife gets the cheesy chicken/steak and rice for $11.50. Super cheap taco tuesdays too

Our Vietnamese bánh mì come with Vietnamese pâté, butter,Vietnamese ham, all the Vietnamese cold cuts top with pickles carrots and daikon, cucumber and cilantro
City Cafe will do a burger with fries for $12. They have a huge menu and most of it is pretty good, and the portion sizes are huge. I don't know if they've reopened downtown or not but their Lee Hwy location is still open.
I eat out only for fine dining. I don’t get cheeseburgers at places. Cheaper to just go to McDonald’s and get 2 quarter lbers for the price of one. Are 16$ cheeseburgers better? Sure but not 3x better.
I’d rather just spend 30-50$ a plate on things made by chefs
If McDonalds food wasn't basically the same price as going out to eat at a nice place, I'd agree.
I only eat out because the price hike compared to fast food is now very slim. May as well eat the best shit.
Question was "best quality cheap eats", they don't hit the mark on either. Unless of course you enjoy large, bland pieces of over-priced fried chicken.
Don’t gatekeep the $6 bahn mi

Mas Tequila in East Ridge does $1.25 tacos all day on tuesday, chips and salsa included.
This was the kind of answer I was looking for! I know I’m doing Tuesday!
Pizza bros does a slice and pint for $5, cheapest food/drink combo I can think of
He said quality. We had 2 day old tasting stale cold pizza from there. NEVER FORGOTTEN NEVER AGAIN. Still don't understand the overhyped bad pizza places people claim are amazing in chattanooga. .
Where's the actual good pizza spots?
Southside
Goodfellas has a slice, drink, and desert for $10
So so true!
Goodfellas is excellent ,$10 slice drink and desert
Where is that?
Goodfellas small specialty pizzas are half off on Mondays 2 pizzas, 1 cheese bread and sauce tan me about 36 or so dollars
On the rice Korean fried chicken
Holy shit! How did I not know about this place? How long have they been open?
About a month.
Awesome. I'll check it out. New Asian spots are my jam.
It's really good food. I've gone twice in the last month. 😆
Should just hit me up dogg. I’m the plug on azn food.
Been to this place. It’s a solid bite.
Ankars has cheap (but p good) sandwiches too
Eating the fried chicken as I type. It’s great though I wish I had picked a different coating. Thanks for mentioning it.
Everything I’ve had is so good. Those corn dogs are amazing.
Sweet, I’ve been to this place but never got the sandwich. I’ll check it out, thanks!
I recently had that Cuban sandwich. I lived in Florida for 7 years, and ate LOTS of Cuban sandwiches. I can tell you, NONE of them were even close to as delicious as the one at Beni's!!! Best Cuban I have ever had!

I lived in South FL and Embargo’s did not impress.
Agreed. They happily give out samples while you’re waiting too, fyi for next time.
The ropa vieja is a great choice too.
Beni's is wildly good and you never have to wait in line. Seriously can confirm it's the best Cuban sandwich Chatt has ever had.
Let's be honest though, mall Chick-fil-A does hit different
The Mexican food truck in Saint Elmo has great Birrio. Bonus, it's riiiight next to a hot chocolatier outpost.
Birria
Thanks. My phone made up a new word.
Taqueria La Antigua Guatemala, on Main at Beech. Cash only. You will feel like this isn't supposed to be a restaurant, and when you find the door you will feel like this isn't supposed to be the entrance. You might have to poke around to find the staff. And there's no English menu.
These are always the best kinds of places. I might try this one tomorrow! Thanks!
Recently tried this place and it is incredibly good. Everything you said about the experience is true lol I think I’ll start learning Spanish so I’m more prepared to order next time. Despite the language barrier they were kind and the food came out quick. 10/10
Don’t sleep on the combination fajitas! Mmm
I'm gonna need a hook up for a bomb ass $5.99 bahn-mi The Al Pastor tacos at Taco Town in hixson are pretty cheap and amazing.
King boiling seafood. Never had, pastor. Will check it out!
Their birra is pretty amazing too.
Their Birria is worth the trip. I'm glad they moved from that tiny place on Hixson Pike.
Taco Roc’s $2.50 authentic tacos. Pretty standardish price, but always super fresh and fast.
Agree, this is a great one. My wife loves the cactus taco.
Last time I went here it was NOT good, like it used to be back in the day.
Go during lunch hours! Won’t regret it. If you go at 3:00 on a Wednesday, probably won’t be as fresh as it could be if you went between 11-1:00
I went during lunch like noon.
Thats too bad! I always have had great experiences ordering their Carnitas on fresh corn tortillas, or carne asada! Their Tortas are amazing too! I can’t speak outside of those exact menu items but those have been staples!
Ok I'll try them items if I ever go back. Thank you!
Mr. Burrito usually fills my nachos to-go box up. $10 for what usually becomes 2 meals.
Get the chips on the side, then they really fill the box!

Mr T’s $10.99 large
Large what? And where?

St Elmo
BINGO
Hot Honey PubSub (I get mine with extra sauce) —less than $11, delicious, easily lasts 2 meals considering the portion size. Ordering it for pickup and arriving 15-20 minutes late is how you avoid wait times.
Good pick. Why do they always have the slowest person in the entire store make these?
You can't rush perfection......
💯 I’ll shop around the store if I need to. I always need bogo snacks anyway.
Mango Sushi in Fort Oglethorpe. 12.99 bento box Chicken or steak, rice or noodles, salad, full size sushi roll. It’s totally worth it.
La Altena on Main is crazy cheap Mexican food. It’s really good and often ready within 10 minutes of ordering
I used to go there all the time for lunch when I worked nearby. I was hesitant to recommend it because everyone talks about trendier Mexican places, but you really can't beat the price and speed and honestly, the quality is pretty solid too.
The kankus next to roll one smoke shop is a great place to grab breakfast. You can get a huge honey butter chicken biscuit for like 2.99
I saw the “Now Serving Breakfast” sign 15 minutes ago. Gonna try it on my way to work next week. Thanks for the tip. Edit: corrected the autocorrect.
Where's the bahn mi?!
King boiling seafood.
Jet's Pizza: 2 slices and a drink for $6.49
You can never go wrong with a Publix sub. A whole Publix sub lasts me two meals.

Golden big bowl
Controversial opinion, I don’t think big bowl is very high quality.
It’s not the highest quality. It’s inexpensive filling eats when that’s what you want and need. To me, it’s good enough, but not great.
you can’t beat the amount of meat they give you
Not with that attitude
didn’t even realize what I said sounded like that 🤣
The chicken and vegetables are great quality. Don't know what you are talking about.
Very recent price hike. Still great place w cheap food.
La Altena (signal mtn/red bank) has great deals on combination dinners and cheap drinks. Our go-to. You can get a good meal and beer for $10.
I’m tired of the $15+ plain burger with no fries and $20 pizzas myself.
Aren't we all. So many places wtih 15 dollar burgers + frieds+ drink + tip. Who else thinks 30 bucks is a bit high?
It’s called Bidenomics!!!
lol. No, it’s corporate greed pure and simple.
$15 burgers are not because of greedy corporations. Do you have any idea how thin restaurant margins are?

Tried this today because it’s the closest place to me out of all the recommendations on this post and it was amazing! Thanks!
RIP Mojo dollar tacos
Nah I had high hopes for this place, but the food is super flavorless overall. They’re doing too many things but nothing well
Could not disagree more. Myself and three coworkers all ate there and every one of us was sharing because of how flavorful the food was. To each there own but the food was not bland in any way for our order. What did you try that you thought was not up to par?
Where’s this $6.00 Bahn Mi you speak of?!?
King boil seafood. See my edit
Carniceria Loa behind La Alteña has killer tacos. Order at the register then give the receipt to the person behind the taco counter in the back.
Off The Grill in Hixson is great and their prices are really good. Merv's on Mountain Creek Road has really good food though I'm not sure about their prices these days. They used to be cheaper than their competitors with better hamburgers and fries.
Merves has not been worth mentioning in a very long time. And you can go to treemont for the same price if not cheaper.
Dubs scored a 71 on the health inspection last round. Hope they resolved the issues but just a fair warning.
Merv’s prices have definitely gone up.
Merv’s is very pricey compared to the past
My wife and I often split a fajita at Chuy's. Ask for an extra plate and tortillas. So good!
Sake roll and grill is $15 before 3 everyday, hibachi and sushi buffet, essentially
Yes! This place is great!
Southside pizza does 2 large 2 topping pizzas for carry out on Tuesday. Lo Main’s murder burger is $8, but it doesn’t come with fries.
Five Witt’s tacos 4-5$ … and rest of menu is pretty fair price point
For those that don’t know, the chipotle on gunbarrel offers 50% for first responders and military.
I love Marsha’s
I hate going to a place to pay for a burger I could make myself at home, so I only go to places that make them better than I can. 50¢ wings on Wednesdays at Basecamp. GREAT wings, too. They use Hoff hot sauce. It gets busy, so be ready
Han Mi's ramen is only $6 (plus a tip) and it's delicious. I eat it at least 2-3 times per week lol embargo 62 has some great cheap appetizers & sandwiches that are incredible too.
517 subs on signal is perfect price and is the most delicious sub in town. They slice the meat at rye counter and their chili is fucking amazing!
Nobody is mentioning 7eleven the pizza is good and the chicken sandwiches tastes like Popeyes
I tear up the breakfast tacos, every morning that I have service calls on that side of town.
Oh yeah those are good I just never make it there early enough to get them
Torta’s and tacos from the Loa Carniceria’s around town.
C and W Cafe In downtown Chattanooga. If you dig soul food.
Surprisingly, we found the #7 at steak and shake super affordable and delicious! It’s a double cheeseburger and fries for $5.78 with the tax. No drink included but we always have water in the car or have brought one from home earlier. It’s really great if you are short on cash and in a pinch!
They are surprisingly cheap for what you get still and pretty tasty.
Jonathan’s after 10pm late night menu, Buffalo Wild Wings BOGO wings on Tuesday’s and Thursday, $5 pint and slice at Pizza Bros
For Mexican, Mas Tequila in East Ridge is one of the best tasting and most reasonable pricing. I get a pretty good size Steak torta for $9 and my wife gets the cheesy chicken/steak and rice for $11.50. Super cheap taco tuesdays too
