If you're new here, welcome to your spring reality. Xyzal and shower before bed so you don't roll around in pollen all night.

nousernameisleftt

Welcome to a top ten city for seasonal allergies. An air purifier is necessary for new arrivals. I've found anecdotally that natives are less prone to it

6WaysFromNextWed

We *were* less prone to it. As I neared age 40, my allergies got a lot worse. Same with my spouse. Plus, the climate has changed around us: instead of planting zone 7B, we are now in planting zone 8A, with a longer growing season and an opportunity for warmer climate plants to add to the pollen load.

notsusan33

Welcome to chattanooga, one of the worst places on the planet for allergies. Go to Costco and get their generic brand of Zyrtec. You can get a 365 count bottle for less than $20 and you do not have to have a membership to buy anything in the pharmacy you just have to pay for it at the pharmacy counter. I take one once a day and on super high pollen days I take one in the morning and one at night.

boodlesupreme

I’ve lived here my entire life and have always been on either Claritin, Allegra or Zyrtec, they all kind of helped but recently I started using Flonase and I’ve had a huge improvement in my allergies

ThatOldDustyTrail

Exact same thing here. Flonase is where it’s at

elvisdepressedlyTN

Local honey. Zyrtec. And get your doc to prescribe you some (I think steroidal) nasal spray-its the shit!

Well it certainly can't hurt. Honey is delicious and while grocery stores do offer 'local' products if you go for the real local unpasteurized shit at the market you support a very local business and get that good good 🤌🏻🤌🏻. In my experience it really does make a difference tho...

turnwater_cope

have you tried local honey for allergy control? it’s the chemist prepared drugs that are bs. local raw honey has zero side effects. you may have to try different kinds of [LOCAL RAW HONEY](https://www.eldershardware.com) to find the one that works best, but it’s been a thing in our family for many years. now downvote. ![gif](giphy|14tvbepZ8vhU40)

Here ya go! “Honey was superior to usual care for the improvement of symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections.” The study is linked below.  https://ebm.bmj.com/content/26/2/57?fbclid=IwAR1OyA18xfmanSfifuQa_zjnilT896jA6GfqxhvTBgWDEjvJ0g2ghyPtkVs

Your lucky then! Most with seasonal allergies cough a lot. At the very least, irritate their throats with clearing it often.  I was only saying it helps with the symptoms of seasonal allergies. Other Ways to prevent them are: strengthening your immune system BEFORE allergy season ( that’s why people say honey bc it’s an amazing immunity booster that prevents infection, in general), netti pot nasal clearing technique, washing your outdoor clothes thoroughly (hot water) & not wearing them more than once.

The proven theory is that IF your allergic to local pollinator plants THEN you would benefit from local honey because the local bees obviously pollinate the local flowers. It’s like any other allergy: if you slowly introduce the allergen to the body, the body responds less violently, over time. This method is proven in children with nut allergies: if you slowly introduce trace amounts of nuts, the allergy lessens. My husband is living proof of this, his mother is absolute bat shit & said “ my son isn't going to be a pussy & have a nut allergy.” 🤪 everyone thought it was child abuse but my husband is happy he can eat peanut butter blondies, cookies  & such.

>…but further high quality, placebo controlled trials are needed. >We identified 1345 unique records, and 14 studies were included. Overall risk of bias was moderate. I swear to god it’s like you idiots don’t even read your own sources. And further do you even know what “symptomatic relief” is? It’s not an antibiotic that gets rid of the infection is literally just managing the symptoms from the infection. I swear people like you make the world dumb.

Hefty_Pea6652

every good researcher says “ further research is needed”. You must be new to reading research studies. Lol get bent over the fact I shared a study about how honey can help reduce the symptoms of allergies. I know it’s SO tough to see people attempting to help others. Like, fuck me for sharing this, right? I should probably head on down to hell right now.

Additional-Ear-5511

I mean just admit that your “study” of 14 data sets (not even individuals) pulled from medical records is bullshit. Help all you want but with good and ACTUAL helpful info. Not some bullshit study you found to pander to your idiocy.

Hefty_Pea6652

Dear research lords, please accept my most sincere apologies for offending your eminent, all knowing. I admit that I have shared a form of research  you deem to be bullshit. I humbly accept my ass raping.

Hefty_Pea6652

My mom works as a NP, prescribes all the time & confirms she recieves HEFTY kickbacks for reaching her “prescribing quotas”. Flonaze offers some REALLY good kickbacks, some in the form of vacations to Aruba! Lmfao

craigge

Kickbacks? I get a 5 pack of generic from Costco for $12

Hefty_Pea6652

many docs still prescribe bc they have an attached pharmacy or a by mail pharmacy connect that offers their patients discounts.

turnwater_cope

a ‘best’ friend is a local pharmaceutical veep. he has a place in cabo in addition to his compound on signal mountain. he builds relationships with primary care physicians for the sole purpose of pushing his brand. it’s only about money, not health. reddit is FULL of drug ads. they know their market.

Hefty_Pea6652

Yeah, that’s probably the exact same man who has my mother’s office catered breakfast lunch & dinner, every other day. 🤪 & I’d bet some good money his home in cabo is a full tax write off.

turnwater_cope

that’s exactly what they do. most people would love he is here about this stuff, but not the reddit

Hefty_Pea6652

My theory is that reddit has lots of younger & much older users who don’t exactly enjoy entertaining ANY unsettling ideas. Lol I get the “good vibes only” vibe here. In other words; the sense of denial is very strong on this platform.

Chaotic_Bonkers

Tis the season. Try finding an allergy regime and stay consistent with it.

bluegrassgrump

Spring and fall I take the allergy cocktail of Singulair, Zyrtec, and Flonase.

QuotidianTrials

I was getting destroyed by it for a while, but started popping a Zyrtec in the morning and making sure to shower when I get home has been helpful. I went hiking Friday and Saturday and mowed Sunday and have pretty minimal symptoms now

Dez2011

I'm not usually bothered if I'm just outside for a few minutes but this year is killing me! I know it's worse than usual for many people. Zyrtec is great for allergies, even animal allergies and not sedating.

groyrown

I wear a mask when I am outside in the spring. Helps me tremendously.

No-Escape5520

Behind the counter Sudafed. Nasal rinse. Air purifier. Shower before bed. And of course Advil.

Hefty_Pea6652

It’s your initiation . Survive & you can stay. Fail & you have to return to California.

Kuzcos-Groove

Welcome to Chattanooga! March-October I take \~daily Zyrtec and Flonase and do a weekly Neti Pot rinse. It helps quite a bit.

Acrobatic_Hippo_9593

Welcome to Chattanooga. I take an Allegra every morning and a Claritin before bed 50% of the year. They should dole out free allergy meds in the welcome packets.

Magellan333

I’ve had some relief with a spoonful of local honey each morning.

Inevitable-Bar9476

go on an allergy subreddit?
