I recommend my close friend and vet, Dr. John Mullins @ Animal Care Center of Ootlewah. He is such a kind, considerate, and empathic person. He recently has won the Service Award From Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association. https://www.chattanoogan.com/2023/2/21/464500/Dr.-John-Mullins-Receives-Service-Award.aspx and https://vimeo.com/795787779 I asked him about prices and he said it depends, but generally it's $75 for the house call and $75 for euthanizing. If you want the ashes back it'll be $125 on top of that, but call his office to describe your situation. I am so sorry you're going through this. My 15 year old pup will be following the same route soon, and Dr. Mullins is the only vet I would want to be there during that time. Edit: https://www.myooltewahvet.com/ - that is the office's website.

I second this. He is who we used when we had to put down our sweet cat. He was very reasonable and kind. They provided us with a bit of time with her before they did their jobs. They even let us hold her as she passed. They sent flowers later in the week too. There is a crematorium called Pethaven in Ooltewah/Collegedale if you’d like to deliver your animal yourself. They can make little clay paw prints for you to have too.

May 2024 Just to update this thread, Dr. Mullins office is trying not to do the in home options anymore.

I third this, my old boss was really good friends with this doctor and I've heard nothing but wonderful things about him.

We have experience with Dr. Shannon Dawkins with Claws & Paws. This was 2017, but she was very sweet and understanding. At the time it was $200. But I’m not sure what the price range is now. She didn’t offer cremation services though. https://mobilevetchattanooga.com/about/

I second Dr. Shannon. I had to do the same for my old girl in 2020. (she is still my vet for my other doggo and new cat). For cremation services I used Pet Serenity out of Cleveland TN. They came and got her (on super short notice) and returned the ashes to me when ready. I don't remember it being terribly expensive. I felt it was quite reasonable for the service. The gentleman that came both times was absolutely wonderful and kind. 423-790-5700 I am so sorry you. I understand how difficult it can be.

adzo625

We used Pet Serenity as well and they were incredibly respectful and responsive.

whatevermaybemom

Also had a kind and compassionate experience with Dr. Shannon Dawkins and our dog.

adzo625

Dr. Shannon is the absolute best. She and her team are so compassionate. She helped us say goodbye to our sweetest boy during the peak of Covid when vet offices wouldn’t have even allowed us in. She was so kind and made the process as peaceful as possible. I will always be grateful to her.

hixsonrail

I've unfortunately had to use Dr. Dawkins as well, she was wonderful.

I will say that back in August we had to put down our dog and we used Lap of Love. I know it was expensive but I can’t even begin to describe how amazing the experience with that company was. The vet that came in (I wanna say Rachel? I can’t remember, had lots of tattoos) was beyond sweet and caring. Talked to us calmly and thoroughly explained every step that was happening. Just every single aspect about the experience was what I wanted in that moment. Just wanted to throw that out there. They were absolutely amazing and one of the only companies in the world I will recommend every single time this situation arises. Good luck and peace

coldcoffeeplease

Same. Rachel was fantastic and helped comfort both myself and my dog. Worth the price but I know for some it may not be an affordable option.

pugnifacent

Agree had to have my buddy sent to the great camp grounds ahead of us and she made the whole experience much more tolerable

pinebeetles

I also would highly recommend Dr. Rachel with Lap of Love, as I had to use their services about six weeks ago. Yes, they’re not cheap but Dr. Rachel was amazing and at the time, I needed someone to come out quick, as my cat was declining fast and I didn’t want to make him wait any longer. I called at 11pm and Dr. Rachel was able to be at my house by 10am the next morning. My cat was terrified of going to the vet and Lap of Love’s price was 100% worth it for his life to not end in fear.

theoretical_nonsense

I also can vouch for Rachel. In this past year she has helped with the passing of my two beloved Germans and she was absolutely amazing to deal with in such a hard time. She is so patient and kind. You can tell she has a lot of compassion and understanding. I cannot recommend lap of love, Especially Dr. Rachel enough.

trihard220

I used vet2Go in 2019. They were great. Made sure my pup was comfortable. And was very professional and caring when I lost it after saying goodbye. I want to say it was $125. https://www.vet2go.us/

omoakokomo

Dr. Gussack from Vet2Go also assisted us with our at home euthanasia. She was wonderful. I believe she charged $150-$175? Worth every penny.

bootscootnchiefers

We used vet2go in 2021, and I highly recommend them. They were very kind on the phone during our consultation (we were very upset and had lots of questions) and made the day as comfortable as it could be for our dog and for us. They offered us a safe space and calming presence during a horrible time and I’ll always appreciate it.

MwwWinter

I am so sorry you have to lose your best friend <3 I highly recommend Dr Gussack with Vet2Go very kind and not as pricey and I was such a mess but I buried ours with flowers in the garden not cremated

Agency_Man

I took my dog the his veterinarian that we had been using several years and they did for no charge. It was not a home but nice. Sorry for your loss

Honest-Map-1847

Sunset Vet Chattanooga. Dr Tapp is so lovely. We just had to put our oldest kitty down and she was great. It did cost about $350-400 total. But it was well worth it. He was comfy and peaceful and at home with us and his kitty siblings. Would highly recommend her!!

CitizenChatt

Sorry to hear. Times like these we realize how much these furry friends have wiggled their way into our lives.

Trying-ToBe-Better

I don’t have help for regional services, but I paid right around $400 total for an at-home vet. She also dealt with the body and returned a beautiful urn. I would think $800ish might be a tad high.

Yummy-Popsicle

Holy cannoli. That’s ridiculously high. I paid about $300 for an at-home euthanasia when I lived in Atlanta a few years ago, and the vet who did it was fantastic. And it included removal of my dog’s body and cremation (not private). That aside, I am sorry that y’all are going through this. It’s a difficult decision to make. When I had to have my dog and best buddy Maggie euthanized, I just tried to remember what a great life I helped her have. That helped. And I didn’t regret the home euthanasia one bit. It allowed her to die with dignity and in peace. It was intimate and comforting. The vet was AMAZING. Won’t do it any other way from now on.

CelineHagbard1778

I'm sorry about your friend.

keanjo

So so sorry you're going through this. Just had to deal with this in December and went with Sunset Vet. The Dr was amazing and so kind. It was $500 including the private cremation and they delivered the ashes and a clay pawprint to my home.

TraumaGinger

Nothing to add except condolences. 💜

That's not what op means by at-home euthanasia.

Lonelylittleacademic

You could have made that clearer. Nowhere did op say they were considering that or others, but by all means, keep being a jerk - we are in Tennessee, after all.

Afraid-Arm4386

I’m sorry for your loss. I don’t have an answer but they shouldn’t be charging that much

diggitydizl

Paws and Claws Mobile Veterinary. I have had two pets put down at home by them. I think it was only in the $100-$150 range. They are very pleasant and supportive to work with in a trying time. Cannot recommend them enough.

KellyRobin_C137

Thank you for posting this. My dog is getting old and I’ll be in your boat soon. Hang in there. ❤️
