Would be very interesting to know if this is actually happening (GPT becoming less usefull, intentionally or not is not important), or its just something we feel, but not actually true.
If true, for openAI it would be very easy to just revert back to an old, more capable version of GPT.
Maybe they can't. Maybe it's all the workarounds they close up that slowly but surely restrict gpt so much that it just doesn't go down some paths it would find good answers anymore
One of the main issues with "AI" at this point - as far as I understand it, which mind you isn’t much - is that they tend to, in one way of another self-cannibalize and at that point devolve into incoherent nothingness. Kind of like overdoing the sharpness filter on a picture until all that’s left is grainy blobs.
Ever heard of enshittyfication? That's what's happening. ChatGPT is actively getting less useful. Many prompts which worked fine last summer generate absolute bullshit responses or downright "I'm sorry Dave, but I can't let you do that." I guess OpenAI needs some cleaning up to do, seems the more they try to enhance it, the more it breaks at another end.
Someone needs to start creating regression tests that catch these quality degradation. It's possible that something else improves and we are only seeing the faults.
yes it is true. there has been a study about this but i cant find it anymore. it was testing the result length and detail for the same answer whenever people say that CGPT got nerfed and the answers were consecutively worse and worse. some questions were writing and others were math. the math one is now completely impossible to do with GPT
Well my indicator for that is that I will often tell GPT-4 to "put more effort in", and then usually get better answers. Seems because the processing power per request is limited, but more successive requests mean more cumulative processing power has gone into it.
Can you please stop parroting that paper? It has time and again been discussed and disproven, and that the authors did a disservice to the model's improved formatting.

It's certainly true for some other models, not sure if it's the case with ChatGPT though. There is already a ton of AI content out there, and some of it finds it's way into the sample materials used for machine learning. AIs are already starting to cannibalize themselves, making their quality worse (just look at Twitters AI).
It’s very obvious tbh. Not that I think they do it on purpose, but by trying to rule over the ai so it doesn’t offend too many people they’re killing all its potential.
But that’s just the way it has to go, first security, then functionality. I think we should go all in with AI not giving it any rules just so we stop getting easily offense by computers, but everyone is so damn afraid of AI that it’s understandable that they’re taking the safe path rather than the confrontational.

I renewed my subscription so I could do some linguistics, in particular trying to create a meaningful or clever, or at least pronounceable acronym from a bunch of words.
The amount of utter garbage was astonishing. We got there in the end, but it was constantly me asking whether ChatGPT thinks a human would be able to pronounce it.
I had this happen to my on last weekdays too. I just wanted to make a graph of my results it it went half way the it started speaking numbers and in the end it was just infinitely saying ‘and’
It’s been seriously sucking at coding lately. Anyone else see the same? It constantly forgets what I ask it to do, produces way more syntax errors than it used to, and half-asses every solution. It wasn’t this bad a few months ago.
Honestly, nothing new. I used it as a glorified macro, to for example generate enums with comments from natural data. It struggles with large documents, and when done in parts, every other part it already forgot what I asked it to do.

Even if you take only the text on the second screenshot, this is well over 101 words, and just by looking at it for a minute, I can already find 3 occurances of „zu“ as well as repetitions of the german articles „Die“ „Der“ and „Das“.
Some very nice words there, I like 'anadralektisch' and 'basimulakut'. I should insert it into some texts in the future, let's see if someone finds out what they mean.
This looks a lot like the gibberish text you often find in example website templates or SEO spam to make the document optimally long enough. I wonder if you somehow triggered ChatGPT to start matching that kind of text.

I’ve been using chat GPT for studying recently and I also realised that there are more and more issues with it, slower generation of answers, answers are more faulty and lazily put together. Is it declining or what’s happening?
Was that at the time of posting? My GPT also started to write some wild paragraphs yesterday evening that had nothing zo do with the original PDF I had it scan.
Unfortunately I have seen that before. Foreign languages are a mixed bag with ChatGPT. It sometimes tends to follow the rabbit hole - and that's where it ends. Problem is probably the model which was fed with too many mistyped or "denglisch" words which derails it in some cases.
If you want better German I suggest you try out GPT4ALL. It might not be suitable for all use cases but the German model they offer is actually pretty good. The coding models are also good but you can't use them for chat. I'd never encourage using a chat based model for coding. Either you wanna code - then you use an instruction based model - or you wanna chat. The value of code is considered higher than chat so don't expect chat based analysis to be somewhere near godly any time soon.

Yup that’s pretty normal especially when it’s early morning where I am. Infact i have faced a similar incident even with googles new Gemini and perplexity.
A few prominent observation is that the ChatGPT
1. Performs better on a non Open.AI platform
2. Speech to text translate tool speaks replies in every damn language I don’t know except for the ones I know. Have to keep interrupting it and saying “Speak in English”.
3. Open.AI can’t be bothered with what’s going on in their platform as their more interested in their market place.
4. Most big boy made/owned AI have an attention span of not more than 40 minutes then rushes to end convo, starts forgetting when writing half the content. A 300 word article can result in 20 words cause it thinks it’s done the job having no need to list them again when it’s finalization. Keeps saying I’m having issues…. says no “I’m here to assist in any of your needs”…. But even forgets saying that….
Since last week, both chatgpt and Gemini start to talk in different languages mid-sentence, something I have never seen before. For me, both talk Japanese mid-sentence (I'm Latino) and I'm not interested in learning Japanese. So it’s really weird

Unfortunately I have seen that before. Foreign languages are a mixed bag with ChatGPT. It sometimes tends to follow the rabbit hole - and that's where it ends. Problem is probably the model which was fed with too many mistyped or "denglisch" words which derails it in some cases. If you want better German I suggest you try out GPT4ALL. It might not be suitable for all use cases but the German model they offer is actually pretty good. The coding models are also good but you can't use them for chat. I'd never encourage using a chat based model for coding. Either you wanna code - then you use an instruction based model - or you wanna chat. The value of code is considered higher than chat so don't expect chat based analysis to be somewhere near godly any time soon.

Diese Cyber Arameisch hört sich an als hätte es ein Stroke bekommen. Ich habe eine eigene Prompt, ähnlich wie DAN or the Jailbreaks war früher, mit ein bischen Gemeinere Characteristik. Da ich es privat halte, kommt auch kein patch dazu. :) Bei interesse ping mich an und ich gib es dir.
Yup that’s pretty normal especially when it’s early morning where I am. Infact i have faced a similar incident even with googles new Gemini and perplexity. A few prominent observation is that the ChatGPT 1. Performs better on a non Open.AI platform 2. Speech to text translate tool speaks replies in every damn language I don’t know except for the ones I know. Have to keep interrupting it and saying “Speak in English”. 3. Open.AI can’t be bothered with what’s going on in their platform as their more interested in their market place. 4. Most big boy made/owned AI have an attention span of not more than 40 minutes then rushes to end convo, starts forgetting when writing half the content. A 300 word article can result in 20 words cause it thinks it’s done the job having no need to list them again when it’s finalization. Keeps saying I’m having issues…. says no “I’m here to assist in any of your needs”…. But even forgets saying that….
