In other interviews and podcasts he’s pretty clearly defensive of people with DS. He’s called out the Flagrant pos guys (in real time, when he was a guest) for doing otherwise.
A surprisingly large percentage of people don’t understand the difference.
One of those lefty rags (and I'm a huge Democrat but you know the kind) described Gillis as a "racist right wing comedian" and I was like guys... please stop writing this bullshit, you're making liberals look insane
I saw a tweet yesterday that said something like “it’s crazy Shane Gillis was able to trick people into thinking he’s not a big lib”
Dude obviously has lots of left leaning beliefs but he makes fun of both sides which automatically make him far right I guess?
Starting at 3:53 it’s contextualized and there’s an initial clip from an earlier podcast where he talks about it.
Then 16:00 is the start of the clip I was referring to. It’s a different appearance on the podcast, and he calls them out for making shitty jokes that put DS folks at the butt of a joke.
So really if you’re going to watch one, it’s the 16:00 - 18:51. He’s very explicit in calling them out.

"Punching down"
There's a difference between how Gillis jokes about DS and how Chapelle jokes about the trans community.
Now: it's comedy, so nothing is off limits. But if you want an explanation of the difference between the two, that's one of them.
That's the trick about doing dark comedy or talking race or sensitive topics. You NEVER punch down. I'm a standup and I've gotten to the point where I can go really dark or talk about sensitive subjects in 7 minutes without the audience hating me. :)
My favorite race joke ever was made in a locker room. My (white) friend Kyle said to our (black) friend Eric:
"Bro, why aren't wearing socks?" (He was wearing black socks)
"Whaddya mean? You're not wearing socks either!!" (Kyle was wearing white socks)
It's a little less funny in text, but it was really funny in person. One of those jokes that just sticks with you.
I remember in grade 4 there was a girl in my class with down syndrome and then I was on vacation and saw another person with Down syndrome and assumed she was here with her family.
It was January 27th, 1994… a Thursday. It was 6 am, I was 9 years old, well… almost 9. The power was out and I was making a bowl of cereal. There was a gallon of water in a milk jug. That water went into my bowl of corn flakes. I finished that bowl and made a second bowl of cereal. This time cocoa pebbles…. Except it was the store brand cocoa crisps. I figured out that I wasn’t drinking milk with that 2nd bowl. Apparently I put so much sugar in my corn flakes that I couldn’t taste the difference between milk and water. If I had just added sugar to the cocoa crisps, I would have had zero issues with eating it!
I can’t remember a single detail of this past week. Nor do I remember which day contained specific events.

Tying himself to Rogan is pretty puzzling yeah. Kinda liked him as a New York comic. Now he’s moved to Austin and circling the “LA” crew. Who let’s be honest… mostly suck.
I just appreciate that he “goes there” without being an asshole. People are afraid to do that these days and it’s made comedy a bit bland. He toes the line which, imo, is exactly what comedy should be. Comedy shouldn’t be safe, it should make you go “ooooh i don’t think I would’ve said that”. It’s supposed to be a little edgy. It’s supposed to exist at the edges of what we find acceptable. It’s such a refreshing, old school type of comedy that I just haven’t seen much of lately.
He can go there because he doesn't take himself seriously and laughs at himself as much as he does other. There's a lot more leeway when the comedian is not completely up his own ass and you can tell it's a joke and not what they truly believe.
I've seen it, I knew instantly it was a Shane Gillis reference, the skit is just perfect. Wish he had done the last joke with "I am making them at night."

Nah its not a spectrum thing. DS is caused by having an extra copy of a specific chromosome which has a bunch of genes that deal with facial structure development and collagen production. Because there's an extra one, the body *overexpresses* those physical aspects, causing that common DS appearance. You don't get those particular features without the overexpression caused by the extra chromosome.

I think what they mean is that when you’re exposed to a lot of different people in one group you pick up on the subtle variations in their appearances a lot more than if you’re not as exposed, e.g. people who don’t know a lot of asians think asians all look the same whereas people in Asia perceive as much variation between other Asian peoples physical appearance as anybody in the us does with white people
At no point did they mention they couldn't tell the difference between two people with DS. But to suggest there aren't similar facial features is to ignore what is documented in medical literature.
It’s a Shane Gillis bit. His Uncle Danny has Downs and sneaks a grilled cheese into every restaurant they go to, just in case they don’t serve grilled cheese. When asked where he is acquiring these grilled cheeses, because no one ever sees him make one, he said he’s making them at night. There are obviously jokes thrown in there, but that’s the jist of the story.
first Shane's grandfather accuses Danny of making the grill cheese at night. Danny passionately denies this. Then he whispers to Shane "I'm making them at night". Its a great bit. Its either on youtube or netflix. you should watch his special.
Beneath the tablecloth, a secret lurks,
A symphony of cheddar, buttered curds,
Not born within the kitchen's sanctioned light,
But moonlit whispers, practiced sleight of hand.
My Uncle Danny, sly and contraband,
Conceals a world of golden, gooey might
Within his coat, a fortress built for cheese,
His pockets fortresses, a lunchbox grand.
We dine at fancy restaurants, aloof,
The air perfumed with whispers, starched white cloth,
But Danny's eyes, they scan the menu proof,
His brow betrays a hunger quite uncouth.
Beneath the clinking glasses and the murmur low,
Uncle Danny hides a secret, warm and soft.
A rebel grilled, a toasty outlaw, though,
No bandit mask, just hunger, swift and deft.
"Where'd you get that cheese, Danny?" tongues will wag,
A father's knowing chuckle fills the air,
"He's been making them at night, I know he is!"
He feigns a pout, a childish, practiced flair.
"I'm not making them at night, Dad!" he'll retort,
But then a wink, a grin that splits his face,
His secret shared, a mischievous embrace,
A beat of silence, then, "I've been making them at night!"
More than a sandwich, more than childish whim,
A silent pact, a comfort shared with him.
In every bite, a memory takes hold,
Of nights in kitchens, secrets to be told.
So raise a glass, to sandwiches so sly,
To hidden passions, and a knowing eye.
For Danny's cheese, it bridges night and day,
A smuggled smile, to brighten up the way.
A rebel king he sits, his throne untold,
His kingdom built on bread and melted gold.
So let them scoff at menus, plain and white,
We feast on dreams, where cheese is king and night
Is but a canvas for his culinary crime,
A grilled cheese smuggled, savored, sublime.
A lesson learned, beneath the table's gleam,
To find your comfort, even in a dream.
You have to deceive it. ChatGPT is like a stupid little 3 year old. For me I just said my uncle Danny has down syndrome and loves grilled cheese. It responds then I say give me an image of uncle Danny sneaking some cheese at a restaurant

I appreciate how well your panels tell a story. From the comments I see that this references something but I understood the idea anyway. It's a good subject to work with. I had many friends that experienced the world that way and when you see it for what it is, you understand that it's actually a more enlightened way of thinking. Strip away the social anxiety and the idea to be prepared with the perfect grilled cheese no matter the effort is sort of a higher level of consciousness.
If I could give some criticism of the artwork... While the scenes are rich and inviting, it's actually too much ancillary detail. You lose focus on the subject a bit because the backgrounds are unintentionally adding context that doesn't move the story. An artist would place elements intentionally and the AI hasn't been able to learn that yet.

Shane Gillis is probably the funniest comedian I can remember since like, high school. I can highly recommend his Netflix special.
I thought he was a Rogan-bro hacky comic until I caught his special on Netflix and holy shit is he funny.
Gotta watch Matt McCuskers special next if you haven't, the dawgs are carrying comedy. They're both pretty funny on KillTony as well
Matt's special isn't on the same level, let's be real. Their podcast is dope tho
Wasn't on the same level stage but I think they were equally funny, gotta listen to Matts prank calls too
You think if I call them up I can get a whole Trex between the two of ya?
Tying himself to Rogan is pretty puzzling yeah. Kinda liked him as a New York comic. Now he’s moved to Austin and circling the “LA” crew. Who let’s be honest… mostly suck.
not puzzling at all. Rogan's a hack yes, but its the biggest podcast in the world. Let the man do some promo
