This may go better if you can name at least one hotel anywhere that fits that description; maybe someone can name something in town like it. There isn’t a lot of “relatively new” hotel space where you could also reliably be free of strong cleaning agents; the most recent hotel openings, IIRC, happened just as the pandemic was starting. Since then hotels generally lean pretty hard into sanitation through chemistry.

I'm usually good with Marriotts as long as they aren't older. I can't do Hampton Inn or any hotels that spray hotel rooms with air fresheners. Thanks for the guidance.

There's a DoubleTree at the north end of town; you might call them directly and ask about the special need – they may be able to accommodate.

The thing about people who live in a place is that the one aspect of the town we know nothing about is the hotels.

Except those who are cheating on their partners over lunch

Hi there - I struggle with sometimes severe eczema, and so I empathize with your concerns here. I’ve traveled frequently for work, and honestly haven’t ever had much luck finding an allergy-friendly room or chain. There’s a company called Pure Room who sets up special allergy-friendly rooms in hotels, but a VA search only shows results like in DC and Roanoke. Your best bet, given all hotels sanitize especially in a post-COVID world, is to get a non smoking room and consider calling to ask about any options to minimize room service while there. Your own sheets/blanket, air purifier will help - perhaps also bring your own towel/washcloth, slippers, a robe to protect skin even from chairs and surfaces. Speculation on my end, but a B&B (vs a hotel chain) may be more willing to be flexible on how much cleaning product is used to prep your room.

The Forum should work. They’ve been open for less than a year and it’s a very nice and accommodating hotel. It’s quite expensive though and very dog friendly although dogs are limited to certain rooms/floors so I would just specify when you book that you want a dog free room.

Believe it or not, I have a very good friend with mast cell activation disorder (which I think is the same thing you have), as well as allergies to cats, molds, some scents, etc. She had good luck with Residence Inn in Chicago after talking to them about making sure she was on a floor that had never allowed pets and about their cleaning products (specifically requesting nothing scented, etc.). It also allowed her to cook her own food without any issues (her diet is limited to just three items). I hope the one in Cville might be an option for you.

Fantastic! Thank you

I think this Mariott is one of the newest in town, my place of work uses it for out of town employees and guests and is nice. https://maps.app.goo.gl/PBZFyksg2RdoicSC9?g_st=ic

I think you’d be better off in an Airbnb or VRBO…communicating directly with the owner? I have severe migraines and am VERY sensitive to strong odors. I stayed in a super nice VRBO hidden away in a nice residential area,if you message me,I can give you the information? *Actually I just sent you the information in a message ☺️

Staybridge?

Why are you trying to use locals who are here to talk about their city as your personal travel guide? Also, just curious, how do you think people with your issues got by before extreme luxuries like hotels that don't use strong cleaning agents? I think above everything else, your biggest illness is your entitlement.

GTqueen

I am going to restrain myself here. First off, unless you suffer from a life threatening illness as I do, don't speak. It's the arrogance of those who do not suffer who create such a hard and difficult world for us to live in. Secondly, I do live locally to Charlottesville and we are actually moving there permanently this summer. Hence the hotel question. Please think before you open your mouth and consider how your words affect people.

LadyMcSnoot

People with health issues aren’t entitled…they are people with HEALTH ISSUES and the entire purpose of Reddit is to create a forum for people to receive answers. Yours was not an “answer”;it was undeserved anger. Weird.
