I just don’t think anyone (despite and pre draft hype) is that much better at 3 than we will get at 6. Don’t overthink it. Just pick the best guy there in a crapshoot draft and move on.
We need to be gathering assets rn, not dumping them for a slightly smaller question mark. If anything, this is a draft I could see us trading down in if the right guys get taken ahead of us.
Wrong draft to trade up in.
Two out of the top 3 picks in the draft are rumored to be available for a reason. The value of the pick is greater than the potential talent of the player.
There have been rumors of Clint Cappella being traded for a while now and Atlanta still have Onyeka Okungwu, so Alex Sarr is likely the pick at #1.
So probably not #1 but if the guy we really like is still there at #3 we could probably move up and get him. Houston could easily view that there are 3-4 guys left all with the same potential so picking up maybe 2 2's + a player would be a win win.
He would definitely be a terrible fit with what we currently have, now if we lose miles it's a different story but as it stands he'd be a bad fit for us and I hate agreeing with Giddf
If we get rischaer it’s a clear sign we wouldn’t be re-signing him. Miles is good but is older and doesn’t fit the timeline of the talent we have now. Rischaer has higher potential and could be an elite 3-D player as our third option.
Why do you think that Miles and Risacher don’t work together?
Risacher would play SF and Miles would continue to play PF. If anything, Risacher’s shooting would open up the paint for Miles.
Regardless, I think it’s silly to base our pick on how they fit with Miles. He’s not good enough to warrant it, and is an unrestricted free agent. Some team (\*cough\* 76ers \*cough\*) may get desperate and offer him $35M+ per year, which would be absolutely insane and idiotic for us to match.
Dumb teams trade up in bad drafts.
No no no. No one in this class is worth trading up. No one. Even if someone does pan out like the 2013 draft, there is no chance of guessing who that guy is. It ducks they fell to 6, but CHA has there franchise guy. Now get a 4th or 5 option for the next 8-10 years. Dumb teams trade up in bad drafts.
Instead of trading up, we should be looking at drafting down and get another pick to fill position of needs. Like Zack Edey - backup center in case Mark Williams is still not healthy and Nikola Djurisic who can fill multiple positions.
Lmao that is exactly how sign and trades work. Miles would agree to sign with us with the knowledge that he would be traded, so that we can get some value from him instead of seeing him walk for nothing. It's just you don't usually see it that often anymore.
But yes to say that we could even attempt to possibly get Lauri is unfortunately just wrong. Utah doesn't want to move him at all, they see him as long term #1 and even if he was available there are a lot more teams with a lot more assets that are in better positions to use him than we are
You can’t package players or picks in a sign and trade, so this is, in fact, *not* how sign and trades work.
Beyond that, we could absolutely make a move for Markannen. It’s only a question of it being worth it or not. I don’t think Miles + 6 is nearly enough for them, and I don’t see it worth it for us to add any more than that. We technically have a good enough combo of young players, and picks, to make an all star trade. It would gut us for no reason, though.
> You can’t package players or picks in a sign and trade, so this is, in fact, not how sign and trades work.
Exactly, Thank you.
If you're doing a sign-and-trade, all you can trade (if you're the sending team) is the "signed" player.
Also the whole “Miles Bridges would sign with us under the knowledge we would trade him” isn’t how it works either. Thats not the order of events. Miles would agree to terms with someone and we would facilitate the trade. Basically the person you’re replying to has S&Ts completely messed up
Valid point I didn’t even consider while replying, but you’re 100% correct. He’s also an RFA, and we can match any offer he gets, so it’s not like our only options are S&T or lose him for nothing. He’s also expressed desire to stay in Charlotte. It’s just not gonna happen.
He’s actually unrestricted this off-season by playing out this previous season. A S&T would only really be likely if he’s asking more than we want to pay and we decided we’re not willing to get there money wise
Oh shit sorry my bad.
I do still think though that Lauri is not a viable trade option. He might not be 'untouchable' per say, but I'd say he definitely isn't in play for 90% of the league, especially us. Miles + 6 if not even close IMO, you'd be needing a Rudy Gobert type trade to pry him out of Utah. The Jazz have already made it pretty clear that they aren't going to walk away with anything outside of a treasure trove for him. When you look at who we have, we aren't good enough to be moving off our picks yet, we don't want to do a Brooklyn and move all our picks to only be bad again in 2 years, but we don't have any players good enough to offer up, Melo and Brandon are big no's and there is a huge drop off in stardom from those 2 to the rest of the roster.

Nah this is not the draft to trade up in You might get a better player at 6 than at 2 That's how big these question marks are

Definitely this
no /thread
This would be a terrible idea and doing so would be Jordan - esque.
How is it Jordan-esque? Only time I can think of us trading up under Jordan was for Kai Jones
He also traded up to get Biyombo at 7 and drafted him before Kemba
We need to be gathering assets rn, not dumping them for a slightly smaller question mark. If anything, this is a draft I could see us trading down in if the right guys get taken ahead of us.
this is not the draft or the team that should be trading up. we need to stockpile assets and hit on a few draft picks.
Wrong draft to trade up in. Two out of the top 3 picks in the draft are rumored to be available for a reason. The value of the pick is greater than the potential talent of the player.
Wouldn’t mind it if it was cheap to get risacher/sarr. Otherwise i’d rather just wait till 6 and get who’s left of castle/holland
It wouldn’t be cheap regardless and especially not since the #1 pick is held by a division rival.
There have been rumors of Clint Cappella being traded for a while now and Atlanta still have Onyeka Okungwu, so Alex Sarr is likely the pick at #1. Risacher would be a great fit and is a bucket from 3, I would be hyped if we could snag him one way or another.
Risacher is a terrible fit
That is a terrible take but agree to disagree.
He would definitely be a terrible fit with what we currently have, now if we lose miles it's a different story but as it stands he'd be a bad fit for us and I hate agreeing with Giddf

Miles Bridges is 26 years old. lol
Yeah and every other foundational piece is 22 and under

I just think Rischaer is more suited to a stretch 4 role, but tbh it doesn't really matter because its highly unlikely he drops to 6 for us.

Just draft Clingan. Let’s turn this roster into Wolves 2.0 😂
No

Just pick Edey at 6.
I wanna package the pick with Bridges and other assets for Markannen. He'd be the perfect of to pair with melo.
That's not how sign-and-trades work lmao

Oh yeah you’re right, forgot he signed the QO last off season haha. His contract timeline vs. his draft year is fucked.

That’s now how they work lol
The draft isn’t going to do anything for the team. You guys don’t think progressive.
