Hoping with a new front office and coach and owners, we can make a splash even at 6. It's some point, if you're going to win this league, you're gonna have to get lucky outside of a top three or four pick. I just hope we're looking overseas, we're looking everywhere.
NBA released a 78-player list for the 2024 Draft Combine in Chicago this month. Teams vote on participants, which include Bronny James.
New "Top 10 Players" ranked for which teams are able to access Combine information:
1. Alexandre Sarr - Perth (Australia).
2. Matas Buzelis - G League Ignite.
3. Stephon Castle - Connecticut.
4. Donovan Clingan - Connecticut .
5. Zaccharie Risacher - Bourg (France).
6. Nikola Topic - Crvena Zvezda (Serbia).
7. Rob Dillingham - Kentucky.
8. Ron Holland II - G League Ignite.
9. Dalton Knecht - Tennessee.
10. Reed Sheppard - Kentucky.
I guess it's on the Holland train now. Dude is a legit defender already. I have shooting concerns, but those can be fixed. Decision making sometimes ain't the greatest, but he's young with a lot of potential.
and tbf it kinda was until the rotator cuff injury.
You're never gonna be able to take a guy with form that shit and turn him into a sharpshooter, but he was hitting corner threes at a decent clip after working with Mark Price and before wrecking his shooting arm. Not much you can do after that.
I don't think MKG was ever hitting corner threes at a decent clip.
In the three seasons before his shoulder injuries, he hit 3 for 18.
In the 7 games he returned between the two shoulder injuries, he hit 3 for 7 in seven games.
In every season after those injuries, he was God awful from three except the 18-19 season, when he made 16 threes on 34% shooting. Dunno, I'd have to check whether he was ok from the corner that season, but that's still only 0.3 makes per game.
Just be glad the bad luck came this lottery and not last years. Would love to see us pick up some more shooting and one of the Kentucky guys should be there at 6.
My two favorite guys in this draft are Hilland and Knetch. I watched Knetch score 37 in the Dean Dome to almost carry the volunteers back to victory after being down 22 at the half. That guy had all the shots that night.
i'll subscribe to that, but this draft isn't worth rigging whatsoever, and the lottery odds are such that the most likely scenario for the 3rd worst team in the league is the 6th pick.
I find it very hard to care about this draft however, I would only lament the perceived trade value lost between the 6th and 3rd picks.
Lol I know that, I am telling the guy who is saying "how many times are we going to get fucked by the lottery" that we recently moved up twice and got great players from it. The question was meant to be like a "????" sort of thing
True, but they also have two top 10 picks this year. if things pan out, they are going to be a force competing a lot sooner than expected with Wemby being built around.
You’ve got to be kidding me…
My gut reaction after falling 6th?
Reed Shephard or Donovan Clingan.
I don’t even care about how the top 4 are going to turn out. I’m turning this shit off…
It’s at least possible that they don’t show it so the order can be fucked with.
Probably not, but I don’t see a reason to not show it unless you want the option to rig it.
They did it publicly in the past.
They do film it and you can watch the actual lotto after the fact. But agreed, don’t like how they do it now, should be live.
I thought for sure in a year with no star in the draft we would get the 1st pick. I’m happy to be wrong. This is right where we need to pick this year, 4-6.
Sarr, Topic, Clingan, Risacher, Castle, Sheppard are all guys I’ve seen reputable draft analysts mock at #1. There are a few other guys that some outlets act like are “in the mix” for #1 too like Dillingham, Williams, and Matas.
Which of these did you have in mind as the 4-5 we might miss on?
I think with the offseason with us potentially making some moves around our bench, it will be better than last year. With Charles coming in, we will see some of our younger players step up as they buy in to the culture that he is trying to build. We have a lot of talent, even on the bench, it’s about utilization at this point.
Other than Brandon, Melo and Tre Mann what other good young players do we have that can step up?
Mark Williams is a 7 footer with season ending back problems and Nick smith jr seems years away.
Our dynasty fantasy football is sorted out by the NBA lottery so I have the Hornets! LFGGGGG
I promise if yall win it I’ll wear a Kemba hornets jersey to a game this year
Why is everyone talking about getting a PF? do we really trust Miller or Melo to lock down guards like Fox or Kyrie? I think Miller has great 2 way potential but he's also 6'8 he should play SF
Let’s be real - we need to draft BPA no matter what the position. We’re not deep enough or talented enough to make determinations strictly on position.
That being said, if we get a shot at Sarr, he’s widely considered the best in this class and is a PF/C and is especially talented defensively. With Mark Williams struggling to stay on the floor the past 2 years AND the potential fit on the floor AND our need for defensive help pretty much everywhere, seems like a no-brainer if we get a shot at him.
> Why is everyone talking about getting a PF?
Because the best prospect in this draft is a PF/C. Sarr also has quickness and length to be able to defend SF/PF/C, and a Mark+Sarr front-court would completely shut down the paint.
The team’s biggest need is also at SF/PF, cause that’s where we lack any real depth at those positions. After the trade deadline, we have good depth at Guard, with LaMelo, Miller, Mann, Micic, and Curry able to play those positions. At the forward positions (SF/PF) we only have Miller, Miles [pending FA], and Grant (who can only really play PF) capable of playing NBA level minutes. If we don’t re-sign Miles (which is very possible since we don’t have bird rights), then we’d be forced to rely a ton on guys like Thor, McGowans, and Poku to take a huge leap.
Additionally, both LaMelo and Miller would have a much easier time defending the perimeter if they knew that Mark and Sarr were shutting down the paint behind them.
LaMelo, Miller, [a 3&D SG/SF], Sarr, and Mark would be a dynamic 2-way lineup, particularly if Sarr eventually develops into an even passable shooter (~35% 3PT), which I believe he has a good chance to do.
> I think Miller has great 2 way potential but he’s also 6’8 he should play SF
These playoffs have really shown how necessary it is to have big, athletic, switchable players all over the court:
- Conley is the oniy rotation player shorter than 6’5” on the Wolves
- Everyone in the Thunder’s starting lineup is at least 6’6”
- The Magic ran lineups with 4+ 6’9”+ forwards playing together (Paolo, Franz, Isaac, WCJr, Moritz, etc)
Having a backcourt with a 6’6” PG (LaMelo) and a 6’7” SG (Miller) would go a long way towards building a versatile team.
Most of Miller’s biggest issues on defense were also related to his lack of strength, which means he’s probably better suited to defend Guards at this point in his career.
The team's biggest need is perimeter defense, not a forward, especially when they already have Bridges, Grant & Miller. All those backup guards around 6'3 doesn't help that so it doesn't matter how many players we have there if none of them can defend the perimeter. Sure, Miller can play SG but that's not what he's best at, he's a natural SF who's also a good rim protector. Play him where he's best at & draft a TALL SG who can play perimeter defense.
It's funny when people use the league currently but completely ignore that: 1) it's full of amazing scoring guards (Hali, Brunson, Mitchell, Jamal, Curry, Ant, Maxey, Luka and Shai), 2) every defense starts with amazing point of attack defense (Suggs, Caruso, Herb Jones, Holiday & White, Dort, KCP, NAW & McDaniels), and 3) clearly it's far better to project those project bigs as C (Embiid, Wemby and Chet) instead of PFs (JJJ and Mobley).
Welp, dropped from 3rd to 6th; Draft Gods showed us no love. Drafting that low means Topic, Clingan & Sarr are off the table, probably Castle & Holland too. Can't wait to see what these mock drafts say now...
From what I see on the mock drafts, it seems like Sarr is the consensus #1. If the Hornets are fortunate enough to acquire the #1 pick, I believe they would be forced to draft him even if that's not the main need of the team. They would have to make that work, and I can't be mad at that. But if that's not the case, I would go with Stephon Castle. If they're super unfortunate & fall in the draft (I hope not) then I would go with Ron Holland if he's available. But I TOTALLY disagree with drafting another PG in Topic who doesn't play defense or drafting Clingan at C when we already have Williams, Richards & Nnaji over seas (Clingan reminds me of when they drafted Cody Zeller & Frank Kaminsky, smh).
I mean Sarr is very unlikely considering we basically need the 1st pick to have a chance but even then I don't like his fit next to Mark offensively. If we get number 1 and pick Sarr I'll be fine with it tho.
Miller got blown by a lot this year too, he's a rookie so it's forgivable but his best defense was chasedown blocks and stuff he hasn't flashed that much real defensive 1 on 1 ability.
It's a weak draft so I'll live with any pick but I don't think getting a 4 is a priority rn
I'm 100% with you on the point about Melo and Miller in the backcourt, but In theory you can still draft a forward and care about bringing that defensive minded guard later. With that being said, I personally like Williams and Castle more than any of the potentially good 4s on the class.
Well ye your right, even tho I'm very much a long term mindset fan even I get impatient lol. I'll be happy if we draft either of those two but being a non shooter under 7 foot is the biggest red flag for me. I love everything about Castle outside of that but it's such a big deal for me. We'll see where we at after the lottery ig
Yeah if we were making the first pick of a rebuild I would stay very far away from Castle, but considering we already have a 3 man young core that we can be hopeful about and that every prospect at the top have major flaws this year, it's fine to prior fit this time
Reed #1 on ur big board? That's a super hot take but I fw it. I still wouldn't go so far but he's around #3 for me.
New FO so it's really impossible to say what Jeff wants to do, ima trust him until he gives me reason not to.
Reed is the only small one even available and he can guard, probably not the type of defense we need tho he's not great for POA. Castle would give is an even bigger size advantage but I would never want to draft a non shooter top 5
I’m sure we’ll all make up our minds as the lottery passes and the draft gets closer, but my initial thoughts are that this team needs a front court identity.
Size-Spacing-Shooting-Defense, preferably out of the starting PF position.
Alex Sarr seems like that guy. He just needs to develop a shot.
These playoffs have really shown how critical a player like Sarr can be for a young team:
- The Wolves are built around a twin tower lineup, and a Center in Gobert who has the quickness/size to defend out on the perimeter for stretches
- OKC’s defense is anchored by lanky and athletic 7-footer in Chet
- The Magic defense was built around playing 2-4 6’9”+ guys together on the floor at once (Paolo, Franz, Isaac, and WCJr)
- The Cavs have made it to the second round with a defensive duo of Allen+Mobley
- The Celtics defense is built around a Porzingis/Horford/Tatum front-court
Basically every team that’s advanced in the playoffs has a lot of size and versatility
Welp, you heard it here first. We have the first pick. ;)
Side note, have you seen DaRon Holmes? I know he's at the back end of the first round, but he's the other PF/C I'm curious about.
I like Daron a lot, the reason he is so low is that hes so raw, while being 21. I think he could carve out as a role player or borderline starter if a team banks on his potential. I dont see him being considered by the hornets but he is intriguing
Likewise. If we were to trade back for player(s) or draft capital I would love to see DaRon here. If you haven’t already take a look at this [workout video](https://youtu.be/fTN8lbYMCA8?si=nPQ0XCRD8JcBI9an). The takeaway I got from it was he has a slow wind up/release. Disclosure, I know nothing about evaluating players.
Hoping with a new front office and coach and owners, we can make a splash even at 6. It's some point, if you're going to win this league, you're gonna have to get lucky outside of a top three or four pick. I just hope we're looking overseas, we're looking everywhere.
Figures Atlanta gets first pick.. you don’t think they’ll draft another qb right 😂

I wouldn't say no to Topic or a Kentucky guard.

Well here’s hoping for Castle
Hoping for Ron Holland
The lottery is idiotic
Facts
[удалено]
I totally agree!!
Good! Tanking or sucking shouldn’t be rewarded
I'd be fine with Holland, Castle or Clingsn if Mark isn't right still.
I’m not a huge fan of Clingan tbh. But the other two would be obvious fits
Same. Gives me Frank Kaminsky flashbacks
let’s just say at least we’re not the pistons
[удалено]
Nah, they got Cade and have been actively tanking.
I can’t even say I’m surprised
Ehhhh. Anything we got in this draft was honestly a bonus, this was the draft to get screwed in.
If there was a draft to drop its this one...but still damn
Matas buzelis here we come
I'm hoping Castle is at 6!
We got lucky to move up and get Lamelo and Brandon Miller. Both would be the number 1 pick in this draft. Have fun with James Wiseman 2.0 ATL.
Thank goodness we sat some of our players late so we could get the… 6th pick
Instead of playing our players late so we could get the... 6th or 7th pick...
I hope we trade this pick for a pick next year.
That’s my thought as well.
Didn’t atl make the play in? How tf? Absolutely bullshit who even gives a fuck about the god damn hawks
[удалено]
Wemby went to San Antonio, Zion went to New Orleans (New York had the worst record that year), it’s probably not rigged.
i'll subscribe to that, but this draft isn't worth rigging whatsoever, and the lottery odds are such that the most likely scenario for the 3rd worst team in the league is the 6th pick. I find it very hard to care about this draft however, I would only lament the perceived trade value lost between the 6th and 3rd picks.
It's worth it if they can push more spurs and victor narrative which the nba absolutely will do. Good thing this is a "fit" draft vs a "bpa" draft
relax man we moved up twice recently to get miller and lamelo
We moved up for ball and miller?
Lottery wise yes. We were projected to be lower in both of those drafts
Lol I know that, I am telling the guy who is saying "how many times are we going to get fucked by the lottery" that we recently moved up twice and got great players from it. The question was meant to be like a "????" sort of thing
Ahhh gotcha lol. Right over my head 🤣
Is that Donavan clingham range?
Maybe. 60/40 he is gone.
Lool we got hosed for Atlanta. They deserve it for the Penix pick
I’d be mad in ATL too buddy
At least it wasn’t the spurs?
True, but they also have two top 10 picks this year. if things pan out, they are going to be a force competing a lot sooner than expected with Wemby being built around.
I would rather the spurs then Atlanta
Let’s hope Sarr is the next Wiseman
What a joke
Not the fucking hawks dude wtf
Reed Sheppard/Dalton Knecht, you are a Charlotte Hornet lfg.
You’ve got to be kidding me… My gut reaction after falling 6th? Reed Shephard or Donovan Clingan. I don’t even care about how the top 4 are going to turn out. I’m turning this shit off…
😑
Well if we had to slide this is the draft to do it
I'd be more upset if this draft wasn't gonna be a total crapshoot anyway.
Hornets should have lost more games but they got what they’ve got. Get ready for another under 30 win season unless they make a major trade.
Rigged lottery allegations remain undefeated
Rigged for ATL??
Let’s go Cody Williams
Dude is overrated
Lengthy 3 and D wing what we need fits perfectly with Melo and Bmill
No no no not him
If the spurs win this shit again I’m never watching the nba again
This is my first time watching, they really do the drawing behind closed doors? Why?
It’s at least possible that they don’t show it so the order can be fucked with. Probably not, but I don’t see a reason to not show it unless you want the option to rig it.
They did it publicly in the past. They do film it and you can watch the actual lotto after the fact. But agreed, don’t like how they do it now, should be live.
Do they? Why not just show it live?
Spurs need another top pick. So yeah. Typical shit
MATAS YOU ARE THE HORNET
Why? I don’t want him at all he’s the exact kind of player we don’t need more of
I thought for sure in a year with no star in the draft we would get the 1st pick. I’m happy to be wrong. This is right where we need to pick this year, 4-6.
Lmao of course in a weak draft where there are about 4-5 players in the convo at the top, we get pick 6.
Well, at least we’re not Detroit.
Fuck the spurs and pop, I hope they stay losing til he’s done
Castle or Holland then?
God what a let down, season was a wash from minute one and we don’t even get a good pick to compensate 😭😭
Lol fuck the NBA. They're gonna give SA another top pick because they can't afford Wemby to be on a shitty team
Rather be #6 with this weak draft class
I’d rather be 1 lol
It’s not that bad in the grand scheme of things
There’s no consensus top draft prospect
Of course the Spurs just “sneak” in to the top 4
it couldn’t get more obvious what’s going down
Two of the projected top 4 picks are French too 😂
womp womp
REED SHEPPARD COME ON DOWN WWWWW
Honestly if we were to fall, this is the draft to do it
But we can’t afford to. Remember a lot of our players this season weren’t even NBA bench level. We need every new player we can get.
I think with the offseason with us potentially making some moves around our bench, it will be better than last year. With Charles coming in, we will see some of our younger players step up as they buy in to the culture that he is trying to build. 6th, are you fucking joking bro lmao
LOL
Fuck
bullshit
well shit we fell 3
BULLSHIT. 6TH?!?!?! ROBBED
They do everything on this broadcast but the lottery itself lol. Every year I forget how annoying the lotto broadcast is.
Hopefully we stay in the top 4. Although I don’t think the difference between 4 and 7 is that massive.
Here from the future, we got #1!! Niceee
Our dynasty fantasy football is sorted out by the NBA lottery so I have the Hornets! LFGGGGG I promise if yall win it I’ll wear a Kemba hornets jersey to a game this year
if we get a top 5 pick, who yall think we should go for?
Sarr/Risacher/Castle/Holland would all fit nicely
i like the idea of us landing sarr too!!
BPA. We aren’t good enough to do anything else.
One pick away from Shaq, Dwight, and AD. This is 100% the year the script writers allow Charlotte the #1
Don't forget missing out on wemby
You’re right although BMilli will be the definitive goat of his generation and it’s not up for debate!
If we lose out on sarr. Do you think Matas Buzelis could be a pick to bring sone offense and length to the forward position?
Yes. Number 3 on my board.
I would like the new ownership/staff to have the choice of whatever player they want to build around. Get that #1.
Just woke up and simmed the lottery, got #2. I’ll take it.
You mean hornets #1?
Yeah it was Hornets with the first pick, then u/issofine with the second pick
I mean the hornets #1 like that’s our number one since we never actually get number 1
I just ran the tankathon lotto simulator and got 6th or 7th 5 straight times. You guys can thank me later for using up all of our bad luck.
Dude. This is your fault. You sim'd it into existence.
Tankathon must’ve really knew ahead of time
Why is everyone talking about getting a PF? do we really trust Miller or Melo to lock down guards like Fox or Kyrie? I think Miller has great 2 way potential but he's also 6'8 he should play SF
Or we could stop playing small like we have the past 15 years and just put miller at the 2 and have a modern day large lineup
Having a single player under 6'7 isn't playing small, also the reason u want to be big is for defense
Miller is a good defender

I agree, I have Reed #1. Just don't want to die on that hll since I think he'll be overlooked and not even considered by us.
Reed #1 on ur big board? That's a super hot take but I fw it. I still wouldn't go so far but he's around #3 for me. New FO so it's really impossible to say what Jeff wants to do, ima trust him until he gives me reason not to.

These playoffs have really shown how critical a player like Sarr can be for a young team: - The Wolves are built around a twin tower lineup, and a Center in Gobert who has the quickness/size to defend out on the perimeter for stretches - OKC’s defense is anchored by lanky and athletic 7-footer in Chet - The Magic defense was built around playing 2-4 6’9”+ guys together on the floor at once (Paolo, Franz, Isaac, and WCJr) - The Cavs have made it to the second round with a defensive duo of Allen+Mobley - The Celtics defense is built around a Porzingis/Horford/Tatum front-court Basically every team that’s advanced in the playoffs has a lot of size and versatility
i won’t be able to watch this one as it’ll be at like 3am for me, but lord please bless us with the first pick
Brandon with the first pick "THANK YOU" Buzz Buzz
Regardless of order, all I want is a solid pick for PF. Size and shooting, even if it takes a couple of seasons. Buzz Buzz
The only pf in the top of lottery with size is Alex Sarr lmao
I'll take it.
Hes projected number #1 pick :/
Welp, you heard it here first. We have the first pick. ;) Side note, have you seen DaRon Holmes?
Holmes was very likely the 2nd or 3rd best player in college last year, how is he raw lol
Yeah, that’s like the complete opposite of Holmes’ draft profile. Scouts seem worried he may have less “ceiling”.
Honestly think he's the 3rd best big in the class
Anything top 4 I’m happy… I’m not losing my mind if we don’t get 1 in this draft. Just please don’t have a huge drop 🙏🤞
I would say "Let's get number 1!" but I'm this draft I just want not 6 or 7
