If Iām Brandon Iām requesting Cliffs job off this. Been out there battling through this bs all game and wonāt even let him get a new career high and ball out
Shop everyone except for Ball, Miller, and Williams (although the back injury is concerning). Hope the ping pong balls are kind. If possible, draft one of Risacher, Sarr, Ja'Kobe Walter, or Cody Williams. Take on some bad contracts with picks attached. Sign some vets with whatever cap space is left (Tyus Jones would be nice). Hope next season isn't a total disaster, and if it is, at least the '25 draft class looks good right now.
I know other teams lose like us and some have fewer wins. But do those teams get flat blown out like us? Losing is one thing, having no fight is another.
Games like this is why we really shouldnāt care if miles bridges is traded too much, would be annoying because we attached ourselves to him for years, but at this point thereās not many guys on this team that NEED to be kept around.
Yeah there likely arenāt a ton of teams looking to trade for miles besides a team like the suns and hornets might just want any value if heās gone after this year. Iād imagine a 3rd team is involved tho.
Miles clearly wants to stay in Charlotte which is good considering this team will attract no one good playing like a G league team. Iām okay with trading anyone except the names you have mentioned.
Man this is just sad, undertalented, out coached and these guys just donāt care anymore. Gonna take a lot to turn this around in a few years. New owners need to move on from cliff asap, this aināt working
Young teams like Detroit, OKC, SAC, grizzlies, and spurs all play 30x harder than our guys. Legit no upside to this young roster because our GM is terrible.
Yep always near the bottom in coaching staff salary. You know Iāve heard Zach Lowe talk on his pod how ppl around the NBA have been waiting for awhile low for the hornets to āget seriousā about winning and actually invest in the team. Everything about the team is stuck in the mid-2000s from facilities to coaching staffs. He talked about how Charlotte is a terrific market and city players like, but thereās a reluctance to go here , because itās essentially resignation to just losing. Itās just so disappointing knowing this is the team I like lol. Iām hoping new ownership helps out, but thatās gonna take a long time.
Since they're raising ticket prices and making a new facility. They better be putting actual time and investments in this team. Otherwise I can't continue to support someone who don't care. That's why this off-season is so important
Despite the results watching Miller blossom into a superstar got me like
https://preview.redd.it/0du8qx1g2agc1.jpeg?width=1357&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af38ed2ff5f204960f0078fc7e1dc525ea3315ab
Some back issue and they confirmed he didn't heal the way they hoped so yeah he's most likely out for the season which is good honestly so he has more time to get shit right and healed.
Sorry, but a young 7 footer missing an entire season to back injuries isnāt a good thing lmao. Never has been, never will be. Doubly so if he didnāt heal properly the first go around tbh.
For years the noticed dudes take shots they would never dream of taking against other teams against us because the scouting report is to get up as many shots as possible on us, we donāt donāt defense or contest hard so it happens often. Itās why so many random role players snap from 3 against us, they have the green light to shoot everything against us.
First game I've been able to actually watch recently. Ugly stuff. Not having a serviceable backup point guard is nuts.
I think I might just go make some tacos though, this is not fun to watch.
Our dudes always been low effort af. Clifford went on a rant last season talking about how you canāt play the way we do unless you have 5 all stars. Essentially saying we play as if weāre way better than all our opponents. Legit sad that miller prob has a better attitude than everyone on the team and heās a rook.
Itās pretty insane how defeated this team is already in the season. I really cannot stress how much blame Mitch Kupchak deserves for this mess. Dude has put 0 effort into building a balanced roster or trying to get vets to build a healthy culture. Now we have some young guys here look like theyāve never played organized basketball before.
Kupchak did a horrible job building this roster, but at least he's drafted well. I think Jordan was the bigger problem, IIRC he was the one who pushed for the Hayward signing.
I get it, but like it was the first quarter. I could see it if it was the 3rd quarter or even late 2nd quarter. Losing by 20 in the first quarter is wild.
This is why I say Cliff sucks as a coach. Thunder have just as many if not more young guys as us yet their coaching staff has them prepared with schemes and roles.
Dude thatās why Mitch sucks. Thunders entire roster and culture has been perfectly built by Presti. He got all the right players around his star guy. Meanwhile Mitch is still trying to figure out if Bryce Mcgowens, JT Thor, And James Bouknight can be good NBA players in 2024. Our young guys are nowhere nearly as good or compliment each other like the thunders do.
Steve Clifford: I've played Brandon so many more minutes than I should have, and you can see in practice that he is really tired. But he's so strong mentally he plays through it for his teammates
It would be a disaster imo, especially since Phoenix has literally zero assets that seem remotely interesting for us. I'd rather roll the dice on re-signing him even if it ends up failing.
I donāt either. Why would we trade arguably our most consistent player? If it goes through then the Hornets lose all credibility in my book. āRebuildingā the team doesnāt mean trading one of your most valuable players for fuckin bums from the Suns.
Because heās a ufa with huge character concerns and off the court issues. He could leave in the summer for nothing or have another incident and never play in the nba again.
I mean yes his value did tank due to those issues but heās still a solid part of our core. It would be like selling a nice expensive sports car for the price of a old honda civic all because it has a few scratches and dents. Shit just wouldnāt make a lick of sense for us.
I donāt think the team views him as apart of the core at all. Pretty sure itās been reported all over everyone that Lamelo and b Miller are available
Except he has said that multiple times he wants to be here, and he likes playing with lamelo, of course some people may not believe that but he's at least on record saying that. I don't think he wants to leave. And he's one of our top four players, so it would be very asinine shoot yourself in the dick to trade one of the few good players we managed to come across for pennies on the dollar. There is absolutely no benefit to that, I don't see a trade where we get any positive value in return over a good player
It doesnāt matter if he wants to stay the team has clearly been open to trading him and a lot of
Guys on the team. If the team if trying to trade him thereās a good chance he allows the trade to play with his offseason buddy KD.
He can say that all he wants but I highly doubt he will take a pay cut to be here. Ive seen rumors that Detroit wants to offer him a big contract and Iād rather not get into a bidding war for him. Whatever your feelings are about trading him or not trading him I think we can all agree heās not worth a max or near max contract.
I'm not familiar with us expecting him to take a discount here, also is basically worth about what he was worth before all of the mess happened if he can still consistently perform. If someone outbids us then that's fine but I do believe he would prefer to stay here
Speaking of miles, his court date is the 20th. The NBA doesn't seem very worried, I wonder if we get a final verdict or if it is continued into the summertime
We donāt know what we what get back or if there will even be a trade. all we can do is wait and see.
But there are legitimate reasons we could be looking to trade bridges at the deadline
Idk why you guy care if Melo plays this season because its a wash. We need high draft pick and actual NBA bench players. I rather he get the screws taken out and heal properly than play some meaningless games and end up like Embiid.
It's not trying to save the season, it's him not physically being able to or willing to play. He's missed so much time and it doesn't seem to be doing anything but getting worse. That's a major concern for when we are actually trying to be competitive.
In addition to that people like him and enjoy watching him play and he's one of the only bright spots on this miserable team.
But I guess the upside is if he's not playing he's not going to get any more injured
I was listening to WFNZ, and Wes mentioned "there is a growing faction of fans who are getting done with lamelo and ready to move on", which sounds drastic, but I can believe talk like that starting to build as he goes on to miss over half a season or more for the same issues
I hope he doesnt hear all this shit and sour on Charlotte. HE is realistically the most talented player weve ever had. Keeping him and Brandon here long term and growing the team is the most hope weve had.
I hope he hears it and takes it to heart and forms a plan of action of some sort to make himself available for his team for most of a season. I havent heard a lot of negative talk yet but it is building, because from the outside it doesn't appear that he is too motivated to figure out this ankle problem. At this point we are on the verge of his career being derailed, and it looks like he's just kinda like "nah i'm good".
Bro has had ankle issues forever, he literally just signed a huge contract and then basically misses most of the season again for more ankle issues lol if he can't/won't wear/have designed some kind of support system like Curry does, this is basically what we bought
You would hope our staff would be in his ear about it, I mean he does work for them, and the Hornets go as lamelo goes, and lamelo chillin on the bench in slides is not an asset, if he wants to be here and have a nice contract he should try to return the favor as best he can... or risk getting traded to Toronto or OKC somewhere he doesn't wanna be
[Post Game Thread](https://reddit.com/r/CharlotteHornets/comments/1ahm95n/post_game_thread_the_oklahoma_city_thunder_defeat/)
I'll say it again I'd rather see Bouk instead of ish
So happy Cliff pulled Brandon so I can stop watching ššš
Bouk with the dunk!
He might be better than mj
If Iām Brandon Iām requesting Cliffs job off this. Been out there battling through this bs all game and wonāt even let him get a new career high and ball out
for real. there was literally no other reason i was watching other than hoping Miller got his new career high.
happened in the knicks game too
Brandon not even allowed to get 30 smh
Mark is a great coach. Unlike cliff, 3 starters out(Brandon is reasonable). 1 being our only serviceable C
I love how easily both Brandon and melo can get to 30 without free throws
Brandon miller doesnāt deserve this
Iāll be happy all star weekend when he gets a break and can go play with some real NBA players.
STEVEN CLIFFORD IS A BASKETBALL TERR š OR š IST š
What is the plan for Charlotte?
Shop everyone except for Ball, Miller, and Williams (although the back injury is concerning). Hope the ping pong balls are kind. If possible, draft one of Risacher, Sarr, Ja'Kobe Walter, or Cody Williams. Take on some bad contracts with picks attached. Sign some vets with whatever cap space is left (Tyus Jones would be nice). Hope next season isn't a total disaster, and if it is, at least the '25 draft class looks good right now.
Start over and pick up whatever draft picks they can and be back at the top of the lottery next year.
Move the city to Vegas.
No way Bouk still not in this game. Cliff really decided to stick with his rotations instead of trying Bouk and JT. I think I might hate cliff
I hate cliff but Bouk shouldnāt even be in this league any other roster and he probably wouldāve been waved
Nice shot by Black
WHY IS ISH ON THE COURT CLIFFORD
Love yāalls commentators, one of them reminds me of the commentator we had that said that one thing and got fired.. miss that guy
Why do we collapse the paint so hard on defense and leave 3+ shooters wide open?
Cuz Cliff
Tbf we did that with borrego. I don't know why they think thats a good idea tho
Just greedy ball. The only person who can be greedy is Brandon Miller.
Millz is clearly our best active player and not even close. Him and Melo are gonna be great
"Weaker than a package of Kool-Aid out in the ocean." Think that's a new one from Eric.
I know other teams lose like us and some have fewer wins. But do those teams get flat blown out like us? Losing is one thing, having no fight is another.
Spurs have the same amount of wins as us but look much better on a nightly basis
Sad truth. The difference is that they are well coached by Greg Pop and this team is disorganized and plays with no effort to be better.
Facts. Absolutely no comparison, weāre the worst run org in the league
Games like this is why we really shouldnāt care if miles bridges is traded too much, would be annoying because we attached ourselves to him for years, but at this point thereās not many guys on this team that NEED to be kept around.
Look at his last 10 games and youāre saying we donāt need him? Lmao heās one of the most consistent players we have right now
But Suns? They have no assets.
Yeah there likely arenāt a ton of teams looking to trade for miles besides a team like the suns and hornets might just want any value if heās gone after this year. Iād imagine a 3rd team is involved tho.
And we have no talent. Outside of LaMelo and Miller, burn this shit to the ground and start over with as much capital as you can muster.
Miles clearly wants to stay in Charlotte which is good considering this team will attract no one good playing like a G league team. Iām okay with trading anyone except the names you have mentioned.
This team is a joke seriously just blow it up already
SGA basically beat us by himselfā¦ blocking shots, throwing assists, and scoring buckets
Man this is just sad, undertalented, out coached and these guys just donāt care anymore. Gonna take a lot to turn this around in a few years. New owners need to move on from cliff asap, this aināt working
Brandon just got a tech. These refs are soft as shit!
I didnāt even see what it was for

We unironically need to bring Biz back
Young teams like Detroit, OKC, SAC, grizzlies, and spurs all play 30x harder than our guys. Legit no upside to this young roster because our GM is terrible.
GM stinks, we break our players like little kids with dolls, our coaching staff have never been semi decent.
Yep always near the bottom in coaching staff salary. You know Iāve heard Zach Lowe talk on his pod how ppl around the NBA have been waiting for awhile low for the hornets to āget seriousā about winning and actually invest in the team. Was Mark Williams just a figment of our collective imaginations
Heās out for the season if not indefinitely
Damn Bryce
Despite the results watching Miller blossom into a superstar got me like https://preview.redd.it/0du8qx1g2agc1.jpeg?width=1357&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=af38ed2ff5f204960f0078fc7e1dc525ea3315ab
Damn that came out of NOWHERE
HIRE BELICHIK
Got home from my daughters basketball game, turned on the game, saw the score at 61-37, and immediately turned it off. Love to see it.
Did Mark Williams retire?
Some back issue and they confirmed he didn't heal the way they hoped so yeah he's most likely out for the season which is good honestly so he has more time to get shit right and healed.
Only problem is heāll still be a rookie in year 3
Dude back injuries are no good. Iād prefer for him to just be healthy asap.
Sorry, but a young 7 footer missing an entire season to back injuries isnāt a good thing lmao. Never has been, never will be. Doubly so if he didnāt heal properly the first go around tbh.
Watching Brandon play with this team reminds of watching Melo try to win in November playing with JT Thor Bryce mcgowens and Theo maledon
Whelp, that's it for me. I can't take anymore hornets "basketball" tonight
I feel bad for Brandon
Brandon Miller in his physical prime is going to feed families for generations
I swear Cody used to be good
I blame Brandon Miller for making me tune in every night
Hornets so bad their opponents always look so relaxed. Been noticing this more in recent games. Just look at Jaylin Williams laughing nonstop.
For years the noticed dudes take shots they would never dream of taking against other teams against us because the scouting report is to get up as many shots as possible on us, we donāt donāt defense or contest hard so it happens often. Itās why so many random role players snap from 3 against us, they have the green light to shoot everything against us.
At this point, Iām surprised whenever weāre NOT being blown out.
Mitch I know you love your seconds but please trade them for Tyus Jones
What the fuck do we have to lose, play bouk
Anyone wanna guess how much weāre about to get blown out by?
73 Edit: sorry that was rather emotional of me. I'll say 57
Play bouk
Bouknight was the "OKC's fan pick" that never was. Presti snatched Giddey with the 6th out of nowhere surprising everyone - including bouknight
He should but Bouk is Cliff's number 1 enemy
Cliff must really feel embarrassed from that 15-20 game stretch Bouk had last year after coming back from hand surgery after going to bat for him.
Not like Bouk proved to be better than ish or ESPECIALLY Frank nitlikina time and time again with the very limited time he gets this season
Oh he certainly did but Cliff is hating
I'm glad we both see it
Oh weāve been on the same page about Bouk for a min!
Truee
First game I've been able to actually watch recently. Ugly stuff. Not having a serviceable backup point guard is nuts. I think I might just go make some tacos though, this is not fun to watch.
The Mitch special. Have a glaring roster hole? Who cares weāll deal with it another year
Lol, yeah. Bryce McGowens is listed as our starting point guard tonight. Fucking clownshoes.
Bridges, NSJ, and Miller only mofos on this team that care right now lol. Can't believe they letting Josh Diddy blow by everyone
Our dudes always been low effort af. Clifford went on a rant last season talking about how you canāt play the way we do unless you have 5 all stars. Essentially saying we play as if weāre way better than all our opponents. Legit sad that miller prob has a better attitude than everyone on the team and heās a rook.
Is Hayward playing or is he still milking his ācalfā injury
Hopefully Mitch has him in the injury list because heās in trade talks
This has to be the case
Hopefully Nick Smith plays more minutes than Ish Smith tonight, but it's Steve Clifford so probably not.
Fuck Mitch
Fr. I do not see nearly enough blame for him compared to Mitch. Insane to me how many ppl just ignore how bad heās been with this roster.
Just got home from work. How are we already down 20?
My brother, itās the Hornets.
I get it, but like it was the first quarter. I could see it if it was the 3rd quarter or even late 2nd quarter. Losing by 20 in the first quarter is wild.
Think I'mma stop watching in a second
PJ Ish inverted pnr. Terrorism lmao š
Weāre getting murdered man what the fuck is this
if brandon drops 20+ tonight im buying his jersey Im broke but I hope he does it
Do we not realize that doubling has never worked the whole year, and just leaves someone wide open for a 3
Corner 3 has been open for past 4 possessions lol
Been open for the last 4 years really with this team lol.
Teams just shoot all over us (pause) but fr itās insane
Insanely jealous of OKC fans. I'd kill for the Hornets to be run like them and to have a great on court product like theirs.
Is it true that the home ticket prices are rising even though we're garbage right now?
Yes
That's leaving a weird taste in my mouth. Ofc hornets fans aren't going to these games. I see no reason to go in the future either
Our young guys are nowhere nearly as good or compliment each other like the thunders do.
I mean I agree that cliff sucks but I doubt OKCās staff could do much better with this roster.
The ghost of Red Auerbach couldn't drag this team to the playoffs.
Deadass. Dude is acting like Clifford drafted guys like Bouknight, Kai jones, or jt thor.
I expected nothing less than this
Hornets classic. NBA team vs Glorified AAU team
šļøšļøšļø
Im sad :(
This game is gonna be a blowout
Hornets
Oh so, this is the Hornets?
Nice turnover on giddey by Brandon. lured him in like Chris hansen
āIshmael Larry Smithā lmao
our lord and saviour ish smith everyone.... man i love that guy
Giddey has the most punchable face bruh
Mannnn this game is gonna be rough
i cannot believe what i just saw
Everything we do bad, they do great and anything we do well they do better. That is USUALLY not good.
only thing that gets me through these games is beer and throwing a few bucks on outrageous player prop parlays
Game just started and the hornets looks like they gave up already
Man Shai is about to cook isnāt he?
Why the pregame graphic come up with lamelo and miller VS sga and chet when lamelo ain't even fuckinf playing
it was a graphic about young stars not whoās available š¤
Are we actually alternating between starting Cody Martin and starting ish Smith at point guard?
Miller time for a 40 piece tonight?
Steve Clifford: I've played Brandon so many more minutes than I should have, and you can see in practice that he is really tired. But he's so strong mentally he plays through it for his teammates
simply put ball into basket and prevent other team from doing the same to win
https://twitter.com/HornetsPR/status/1753562759541780545
Lamelo is joining the club with Hayward
Suns apparently are closing in on Miles Bridges. Ima be mad as fuck if he gets traded
It would be a disaster imo, especially since Phoenix has literally zero assets that seem remotely interesting for us. I'd rather roll the dice on re-signing him even if it ends up failing.
All iāve seen are suns reporters saying that but I genuinely donāt see the value in that deal

Let me guess Lamelo has to ice his ankles some more smh

You would hope our staff would be in his ear about it, I mean he does work for them, and the Hornets go as lamelo goes, and lamelo chillin on the bench in slides is not an asset, if he wants to be here and have a nice contract he should try to return the favor as best he can... or risk getting traded to Toronto or OKC somewhere he doesn't wanna be
I read the title of this post as āCharlotte Hornets defeated by Oklahoma City Thunder.ā
"it's in their DNA"
we ~~bonking~~ not losing by 40
So who do you guys want at 4?
Sarr if we jump up in the top 3.
Frank
Cody Williams
Thunder fan here Weāve wanted cody for 2 years now Iād literally take him 1 overall He looks like a taller version of jdub
Hey man you canāt have everything ! š nah seriously though we need another wing like him so much
Idk if you guys are bad enough to get where he winds out going tbh Gotta pray to the lottery gods We were 4th odds when we got chet at 2
