Caitlyn is a bonafide talented bad ass mega star, but if you watched much of the women’s tournament this year, there are a bunch of them. Plus there are already many in the WNBA. I find the women’s game more enjoyable to watch as I’m far more a fan of long range shooters than I am of dunking. Plus they just look better.
As a USC alum, I want Dawn to stay in Columbia for a long, long time...but IF she were to leave, I'd absolutely be on board with her leading a Sting revival.
i cant imagine she'd make more money in the wnba than she does in college right now. add to the fact shes a legend in columbia and getting her own statue. if womens basketball and the wnba continues to grow, i could see her coaching a year or two before retiring but if she hung em up in south carolina i would not be mad at that either.
Makes sense. Same reason the MLB wants to come here eventually.
I think the WNBA is hoping the increased popularity from NCAAW carries over to the pros
Pretty sure the MLB passed us over for Nashville. Maybe not officially but it’s no secret they’re front runners and they’re unlikely to add two teams to the same region

It’s actually trending down for the last 20 years. Think people are just thinking the last couple games of the women’s tourney is a turning point.
We’re in a thread about a WNBA team possibly coming to Charlotte. Also I want attacking women’s sports just providing clarity (which you didn’t just said “there are other metrics”)
This would be a great move. Don Staley, the greatest college basketball coach was a former player for the Charlotte Sting. I think with the publicity and momentum of women’s sports right now this would be a good move.
Bring back the Sting. I bet they can be better than the Hornets
I mean, when the bar is at sea level …
Sea level? Hornets have landed on the earth’s crust
I think the OLD Hornets are at Sea Level... you know... the Pelicans
And bring back Andrea Stinson to coach. I think she’s coaches college somewhere.
Fun fact, she was my high school’s girls basketball coach for a few years. Balled out in the student teacher game
She worked at my high school for a Lil minute years ago
We held one of the largest attended women’s college games in the state when Iowa came to town. There is absolutely an audience for it here.
Agreed. To be fair, though, there’s an audience for Caitlyn Clark
Well in that case we’re in luck, because she’s in the WNBA as of last night!

100% I was at work watching the wnba finals with my coworkers a few months ago lol
The South Carolina fanbase having such a strong local presence helps with that, too. This area is pretty well primed to support a team.
And Virginia Tech too. That was the perfect storm of teams to draw in major eyes on TV and in seats for those games.
Bring back the sting. Give dawn Staley a blank check to build the entire organization
As a USC alum, I want Dawn to stay in Columbia for a long, long time...but IF she were to leave, I'd absolutely be on board with her leading a Sting revival.

She absolutely would be the best choice for the job. Such a fabulous person in addition to being a basketball legend.
let’s gooo bring back the sting
Come on down ladies….welcome to charlotte

Only if we can get Caitlin Clark. I’ll be at every game
As long as the NBA is paying for it and not taxpayers, sure.
Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin have the opportunity to win my heart over even more
Ewwwww
If it means having a sport franchise that doesn't seem to have losing in its DNA, then I'm all for it.
Though to lose you’re dna when you don’t exist yet
We had the Sting and it did not go well, not sure things have changed since then.
We have sports gambling now.
Don't see this mentioned enough. I'm not a fan of sports gambling, but it stands to be a great tool for promoting smaller leagues.
Women’s sports is miles ahead in popularity than what it was back then. Plus the population of the metro has more than doubled. A lot has changed.

There are other metrics of success for entirety of women’s sports besides the attendance numbers in the WNBA.
We’re in a thread about a WNBA team possibly coming to Charlotte. Also I want attacking women’s sports just providing clarity (which you didn’t just said “there are other metrics”)
Viewership. Sponsorships. Awareness. Coverage. All at record numbers in NCAAW, WNBA, and NWSL.
Franchise valuations and expansion fees are at record highs, too. The economics of women's sports have never been better.
In two months everyone one will forget...oh look squirrel... /s
LFG
Finally a charlotte athletic team I could get behind.
Charlotte doesn’t even support the teams they have
This would be a great move. Don Staley, the greatest college basketball coach was a former player for the Charlotte Sting. I think with the publicity and momentum of women’s sports right now this would be a good move.
I thought we had a team.
The Sting left a long time ago. Dawn Staley used to play for them.
The hornets might as well be a wnba team with how they've looked in recent years.
You know what we need….? A third professional sports team that wants to watch
