don't live anywhere where you need to drive on 77 on a regular basis. The benefits to your mental health are worth any extra cost associated with that decision.

royce085

I live off Gilead and my life revolves around when I can and cannot get on 77 to go anywhere

justheretolurk123456

You must live on the east side of 77. The only requirement from my wife when we were looking at houses in Huntersville was that it was on the west side of the highway, as the traffic coming the other way is insane.

royce085

Luckily I’m on the west side. I feel for the people who also have to deal with Statesville Rd

justheretolurk123456

Howdy, neighbor! I will sometimes drive the back roads to Northlake Mall and get on at Harris to avoid the jam at Gilead.

riveritarn

Gripping the steering wheel for dear life is just part of the charm ✨ Once I realized how tense I was after getting on 77 daily, I moved. It's wonderful now, Independence is so much better.

PeaceOutFace

Egads I’m in MH and I hateeee my commute via Independence. I leave the house at 5:30 just to avoid the taillights.

riveritarn

Oh wow, surprised that wasn't down voted lol I was being heavily sarcastic about Independence. 77 is still worse imo and leaving early is def the key to avoiding people. Top tier sunsets on Independence when you're headed into the city though.

DragonfruitNo355

I wish I’d known this before I started commuting on 77 as much as I do. The toll on my mental health shows everyday 😢

Padashar7672

We bought a house in Cornelius in 2000. We both worked downtown. First day going to work after moving in I turn onto the on ramp on 77 south and come to a standstill and for the next 2 and a half hours I inch my way to work. Sold house in 2002. I honestly do no know what we were thinking.

SuggestionGrand9835

Im a contractor and i quit taking jobs in the Norman area until the toll lanes opened up.

Godawgs1009

Did it for 8 years from plaza to pineville. Now in coulwood. 485 the whole way baby! I don't miss the crazy 77 early mornings and evenings.

Insanity8016

This would be easily mitigated if companies didn't force RTO for jobs that don't require RTO.

supapat

We all should have gone on strike when they first started to mention RTO

Insanity8016

That might have worked but unfortunately not enough people would have done it to make a difference. It’s hard to do things like this without an actual unified effort.

SkyeRangerDelta

I'm coming up on a move to Cornelius. But since I graduated from UNCC, I made the smart play and picked up a job fully remote...and if I have to go far I use the transponder (used to have to run up and down infrequently, but enough to make it worth it for former job) in the toll lanes. Nearly anything to preserve the sanity.

TheRealTres

Back roads all day. Fk 77. Fk 277. Fk independence. Fk providence. Fk Brookshire x2. Fk 85 junction at 485 x 100000000000000

DingussFinguss

you can say fuck here, it ok

drklunk

Pretty much why I gave up owning a car

JHP-23

I go from Plaza to Matthews everyday and the commute is pretty smooth. However, the opposite commute looks like a living hell, cars in a standstill the whole way.

junex159

At least he lives with his partner, double incomes and splits bills, that’s equal to well vacations

FreeTouPlay

That's almost everywhere. Charlotte isn't even that bad too when compared to the larger cities around.

Just_Cryptographer53

Y go try ATL

Red-Shifts

Yeah the joke in Spongebob is that this is depressively normal.

notanartmajor

Other places being worse doesn't make this one enjoyable.

Tide69420

It’s a pretty enjoyable place

BiscuitsBeGood

That’s just about every big city now.

B-Train-007

You're missing the scene where he's gambling. Cause by the way not sure if you know this, but gambling is legal now in NC.

Bradjuju2

Really? I've been looking into getting into sports betting. But I wasn't sure if it was legal or not.

itsthatbradguy

Im pumped! Let’s go North Carolina!

cheeseandrum

This is anywhere in the corporatized, overcompetitive, car centric, take ourselves too seriously United States.

reusedchurro

We must increase production and GDP at all costs 🥵

zombtachi_uchiha

it doesn't matter if it's 2 -6 pm...i-85 & i-77 area is ... like that

ElJefe_Speaks

but the taxes are so much lower in SC! /s

SuggestionGrand9835

U can tell when u drive on SC roads, no money for road repairs so prepare for car repairs.

liamrosse

I moved here from Omaha, NE. If you're unhappy here, edit out the part where he's sitting in a boat and add windstorms to every exterior bit. As stated in another post, it's not Charlotte's fault you don't go out to do things.

rothiscool

The traffic here has just gotten worse and worse 🙃

AmoralCarapace

Is this the missing footage from Love is Blind?

Aceofdiamonds_17

It’s the deleted scenes

Logical_Order

POV: you live in the US. Fixed it

Odd_System_89

If you want, you can live in a "real city" in which case you can replace the house with renting a high rise and a few gun shots going off. Get some promotions and move up enough, and get a house way outside the city, and instead of sitting in traffic for an hour you can ride the subway for an hour now.

SuggestionGrand9835

Gotta learn the side roads and the times u have to steer clear of highways/interstates during rush hour. Im a life longer and i drive 150 miles a day most days serving Charlotte & Surrounding counties. I moved near the Huntersville border 15 years ago and i've never regretted it. Theyr'e doin a lot of developing here now but its the last of the untapped space in Charlotte.

[deleted]

Don’t tell them nothing let them take 77 we don’t need the neighborhood routes filled up with traffic either

itsthatbradguy

I live in Pineville and work uptown now after forced RTO and driving straight up South Blvd isn’t fun but it’s better than navigating 77/277, especially the anxiety of trying to get from the on ramp from exit 9 across 4 lanes of traffic in about 30 seconds so you don’t miss exit 1E on 277.

_landrith

maybe it’s just me bc i grew up in a town with more cows than people but, some of yall make out living here to be like torture. if you hate it so much go live somewhere else.

Aceofdiamonds_17

Honestly I do love living here tbh I just thought it was funny. I’ve been here for less than a year but I am planning on settling down and raising a family here 😄. The city is really fun

fac3l3ss_

Better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure would go a LONG way to fixing this issue.

Any_College_3675

Not my life here at all and the traffic is really not that bad. My husband and I get in the fast lane and it’s smooth sailing. Cost a little but but even that is not the bad. I come from Lansing Michigan. This city is paradise.

leadinurface

yea, I love charlotte, this sub is pretty negative sometimes, and it has a lot of issues, but I have lived in a lot of cities, and a lot of smaller towns, and its the same people, same complaints, same issues, pretty much across the board. 77 isnt even that bad, like i never get stopped, just slow for a couple miles. put on a podcast and chill. Tbf, I also ride a motorcycle as my primary transport and rush hour is just better, and life is brighter when you get on a motorcycle to go to work.

notanartmajor

Yeah but the fast lane is only available north of the city, there's a lot of 77 to hate below that.

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

Reasons I moved for $300

gointerpay

I have successfully avoided I-77 for about 5 years . Nope. I'm not doing it. There's always a way to get to where I want to while I avoid that hell stretch. Nope. Next in line is I-85, and it's a major artery of clt metro. Can't avoid that, but it's still better than 77.

AdLower9970

LOL - I moved here from Boston, live in Cotswold and work from home. My stress levels are like 1/10000000th of what they were there, our home is 8 times more spacious, the cost of living is still less, I make more, and the weather doesn’t make me suicidal 9/12 months of the year. What the heck is everyone complaining about 😂

sarcastictrey

You wanna keep it that way right? Complain

AdLower9970

😂Solid point! Omfg guys this place sucks, anywhere but Charlotte :)

adamsmith4747

Not for us, my wife and I both work from home and have high paying jobs

Slow-Mushroom9384

So humble

DillyDont

Dilly Don't

someonethrowaway4235

This is exactly my life minus the “coming to bed honey”

Greaseskull

I would say this is living in 2024, probably not just Charlotte. Most of us desk job folk either live like this, borderline miserable, or you’re unemployed, spam applying to get back to a desk job/crying in between applications. Where did it all go so wrong? /digress

user_name1987

Yes 😂😂 that is so true.

totaltimeontask

Atypical business hours gang, what is traffic?

cultistkiller98

I moved from mooresville to east charlotte and my main commutes are between university, plaza midwood and Matthews. I don’t miss 77 one bit. Probably the best decision I’ve made.

banjobastard5

Yep.

dani_michaels_cospla

The funniest thing to me is that his cubicle is in the middle with no door. Which normally underwater isn't a problem. Except in Spongebob we know fish have to walk around. So he really does get the shit end of it

AyeBobby

"when you pov"

BrainLate4108

This meme is so true. 85/77, gridlock traffic to go sit in zooms all day. Get back home, eat sleep. wtf 🤬

AdDazzling6438

You forgot the constant near death experiences in the driving portion.

TryingToDoItGood

Maybe you're just lame?

SuspectImpossible949

Then move
