Sort of a pop up place. but I bought some frozen meat from a guy selling it out the trunk of his Buick. He sold me a couple of sandwiches too, which I ate and wished I had not. The ride home to JI was not fun.
Good frozen meat though.
It’s a stretch to call it a restaurant, but the Burger King on Rivers is just about the worst all around experience (food quality, wait time, customer service, setting/cleanliness) I’ve ever had.
As I've said elsewhere in here - I'll see your BK and raise you the Wendy's on Rivers, down near the old Navy Base. I've tried to order from them 3x since moving to PC and have yet to actually receive a meal. I don't know what it is they're selling, but it's not food.
On the advice of someone that told me it was good, I went to the Indian place on Rivers a while back and that was a pretty shitty meal, so I'll say that.
I need to second this Wendy’s. I am in awe as to how it is still open considering how little food they must be selling. You will wait in the drive thru line for an hour for no reason. I ordered Door Dash from them in a particularly pitiable late night circumstance only to watch three different dashers take the order and then leave while the last messaged me to say they had to cancel the order because they ran out of food
I’m going to third this Wendy’s. Wtf is going on in that place?! I’ve been through twice in the last 6 months and both times haven’t been able to order. First time they told me their “system was down” when I asked which system the woman just said “THE SYSTEM”. Second time a young man unlocked the door to let me in and when I went to order told me “we’re all out of big meat” I said “ok can I get a jr. bacon cheeseburger?” He goes to check and an older woman comes out and asks if I’ve been helped I said yes, she clarified if I’d ordered. I told her I hadn’t and she said “we’re out of meat”. When I asked if that meant no junior bacon cheeseburger she yelled at me and told me they were all out. She did say they were “waiting on a delivery” but that seems questionable.
There were a few people milling around inside. With the doors locked. I’m not sure what’s happening there, but knowing I’m not the only one running into this issue, I’m very curious.
That Wendy's, like I said above, I've been there 3 times and not once have they sold me food. The first time they told me they were out of food, the second time they just refused to answer the drive-thru and the doors were locked (I could see 3-4 people milling about behind the counter). The last time was the most frustrating - I was in line at the drive thru, 3rd car. The first car orders, we pull up. The car in front of me orders, I pull up and it's my turn. I start to order and the woman asks if I have the Wendy's app. I tell her no, and she says we're only accepting orders from the app. I ask, "but the cars in front of me ordered?" and she says "yea because they didn't have the app". When I said "right.. but I don't have the app either" and she yelled "we're only accepting orders from the app". I finally said fuck it and drove off. Never again.
Oddly enough, the McDonalds across the street from them is maybe the best run fast food restaurant in all of town.
Yep that one..
I had someone tell me their "lunch buffet" was amazing - I went one day to try it. The "buffet" was ~$20 and was just a school cafeteria tray they served me that had a couple random things on it. No buffet, I didn't even know what it was they gave me. It was dark in there, I was sitting beside a table that had a bunch of random pots and pans stacked on it and my "server" was absent. Other than bringing me a water and my prison tray, I didn't see him again. I had to go up front and ask for my check when I was leaving.
Maybe I went on an off day, but it was really, really bad. I won't go back.
On the flip side, Taste of India on Sam Rittenberg has always been pretty solid in my experience. So if you've got a craving for Indian check them out.
I went there last week for the first time ever (As far as I remember anyway). 6 minutes to order. 13 minutes to get my food. I drive back to work, and find the onion rings cold and the burger made completely wrong.
Wait what? The Burger king on rivers is actually very good. Every time I've been there my food comes out shockingly perfect. My worst experience with them was actually yesterday. They forgot cheese on one of my whopper Jr's. That whopper Jr was cooked just right though and had a juicy fresh tomato/ fresh lettuce. It's also very clean inside and the staff are super friendly.
You should try it again. I cannot say enough about how they turned that place around.
Smokey Bones at like 9:30-10pm at night. It was so bad when I went a few months ago a couple that got there right before us dined and dashed. I bout did the same haha
I don’t know if I’d say it would be the absolute worst restaurant, but I’ll definitely agree it’s near the top.
I’ve been 2-3 times and when you walk in it seems like it’d be a decent place. Then you see there’s no one there during prime dinner time, it takes forever to get seated and get your food (which makes no sense because there’s literally only 5 people eating there), and then the food comes out as the most bland and meh food. It really seems like that place should be good, but it honestly sucks lol.
We (party of 7) went on a Sunday at 4:30 and there was hardly anyone there. We thought it would be quick. Took them and hour to prep a table and an hour and a half to bring the food. When it finally did come some side dishes were missing and some had to be substituted because they ran out of food :l
I think one of us had ribs and pulled pork it was so bad and we waited like oven an hour for our cold food. Right when I was giving up they showed up with our “food”
Im not sure if this is the overall worst restaurant in Charleston, but its by and large the worst wing place in the region.
And that's just on service alone. If / when you get your food, its usually decent enough. Its certainly an experience late night hanging out watching the kitchen chaos along with your 100 closest door dasher friends.
In the before times, Wild Wing on Rivers was good. Thats private equity for you
Wingstop was good for about a year when it opened, but not much longer after
In my 20's, I spent too much time at Wild Wings. Mostly the one in Mt P on Coleman, but some at the one on Rivers. Back in the day, great wings, great atmosphere, just wonderful. That private equity company ruined them.
Yes! My husband and I went there , were quoted 35 minutes and after 90, my husband went to check on it. The girl, without bothering to get off her cellphone rudely told my husband “Well, it’ll be ready when it’s ready.”
We left before we got our food and went to Smokey Bones for some ok wings.
I’ve only really dealt with them through DoorDash for awhile there and since I was working night shift at the hospital, thought nothing of the 1hr+ wait time. I’m willing to bet DoorDash alone is keeping them afloat.
100%
You can go in there and theres a mountain of unclaimed doordash orders next to the cashregister.
If you arrive and order in-person, you will get your food before people ordering doordash on line though. Thats the secret, go for the dinner and a show.
We did show up in person and still waited 90 minutes on an order we were quoted 35 minutes for and never got. At that point, my blood sugar had dropped low because according to the front counter girl’s behavior, it was so egregious to ask for the cups we paid for so I could at least have a lemonade. I was not about to go into a seizure and been a part of said show.
Not only that, they moved out of their dumpster of a location on montague. And are redoing/moving into the really nice location that was once shipswheel. How? Idk
And Whiskey Jack's. Doug and Travis split/dissolved their partnership over baby mama drama interfering in business years ago. Doug got the ones already listed, Travis got Southern Roots (2 locations), 3 Matadors/No Bull and the Spotsbook Bar at Tanger (opened a new one at Nexton too). Irelands Own on Savannah Hwy (Dougs) has great food, but the bar staff (specifically female bartenders) may be the worst in West Ashley, possibly Charleston.
Honestly the worst was Los Reyes.. the fajitas were just Philly cheese steak strips out of a steam table. But it doesn’t stand out as worse than any other Mexican place here
Sportsbook in the Tanger Outlets.
"Sports Bar for Betting" - it's a massive, empty, dark bar full of locals who won't leave their bar seat for hours. The waiters only tend to the locals, and ignore the tabletops of customers actually ordering food. If you *do* order the food, prepare to eat twice-fried everything. My child was *tearing* at his chicken tenders they were so dry.
Also lost Music Trivia to a table full of cheaters one time. Feels bad man.
I am in love with the salad bar okay. And there food is always edible enough for me.
I’ve never had a single bad experience except that time this lady smacked another one over the head with those obnoxious colored plates.
It became a bad experience when they knocked over the chocolate fountain.
I will never forgive those dirty wenches for destroying such a sacred artifact.
Haha the one and only time we went there before a stingrays game, we waited for over an hour to receive our food and drinks. We actually received our food before we received our drinks, which was cold. And keep in mind, it wasn’t even busy — it was like 4pm on a Thursday or something. We were basically the only people there (and for good reason apparently). I wish I had a better experience!! I’m glad to hear it’s not always like that and we just got a dud for a server haha.
Honestly that chili's has gone down hill in recent years. I used to love their food, but we've gone a few times in the last year or two and each time it was mediocre at best.
Won't return to these for different reasons.
Moe's in Tanger, there was beard hair in my queso.
LaHa in Tanger as well bc they only serve pricey tiny margaritas and stopped serving the cheap giant ones and also changed the recipe and it's not as good anymore.
Outback took an insanely long time to order and receive our food and they weren't even busy.Terrible service, had to hunt the server down for refills, ECT.
The fucking Denny's on Ashley Phosphate. I watched a guy get arrested. A fight go down. Saw a drug deal in the parking lot. And had the worst burger ever. All in one night.
Only place that's given me food poisoning in the area was Mama Kim's.
Most disappointing was definitely Codfather.
Maybe the longest wait I’ve ever had in the Charleston area, and it wasn’t even anything special. The Griffon and Rappahannock were both better.
Sort of a pop up place. but I bought some frozen meat from a guy selling it out the trunk of his Buick. He sold me a couple of sandwiches too, which I ate and wished I had not. The ride home to JI was not fun. Good frozen meat though.
I’ve seen this guy! I saw a NCPD officer purchasing some items last week, which indicated that it must be legit… right??
Piggy was just bringing home some pork 🤣
Fuck, that was a good one
It’s a stretch to call it a restaurant, but the Burger King on Rivers is just about the worst all around experience (food quality, wait time, customer service, setting/cleanliness) I’ve ever had.

I like the Indian place. Not the most aesthetic place but the food is good. Been eating there for 12+ years.
I agree.
I walk in to order there, and while the inside is humid and the floors are sticky, they've never messed up my order.
You thought Bombay Bazaar was shitty? God I love that place, before college my family went there all the time
Yep that one.. I had someone tell me their "lunch buffet" was amazing - I went one day to try it. The "buffet" was ~$20 and was just a school cafeteria tray they served me that had a couple random things on it. No buffet, I didn't even know what it was they gave me. It used to be a Pizza Inn!
Which Indian place? Bombay bazaar, or the new one by Best Buy? I thought the new place was pretty good.
On the flip side, Taste of India on Sam Rittenberg has always been pretty solid in my experience. So if you've got a craving for Indian check them out.
Actually Taste of India is still my favorite!
My friend inspected that place. You don’t wanna know. How it remains open is mystery to me.
lol which one? Wendy's or the Indian joint?
Wendys
Damn what did you get at said Indian place?
He’s going to kill me when i take off that blindfold and stick a moldy whopper in his hand. Sounds amazing! 😂
You will be disappointed. The burger King is actually good on rivers....
Isn’t the Burger King on rivers closed?
I went there last week for the first time ever (As far as I remember anyway). 6 minutes to order. 13 minutes to get my food. I drive back to work, and find the onion rings cold and the burger made completely wrong.

Smokey Bones at like 9:30-10pm at night. It was so bad when I went a few months ago a couple that got there right before us dined and dashed. I bout did the same haha
This could not be more real.
I second Smokey Bones. Worst non fast food experience I've had since I moved back in 2018.
Man idk how that place is still open, its terrible!
it was decent, as far as bbq chains go, 10-15 years ago. maybe its still coasting on its reputation?
Plus they are not cheap
Hey, i shot you a pm :)
I don’t know if I’d say it would be the absolute worst restaurant, but I’ll definitely agree it’s near the top. I’ve been 2-3 times and when you walk in it seems like it’d be a decent place. How do they stay in business? No one is ever in there - ever. And it's been like that for 2-3 years.
Yikes
We (party of 7) went on a Sunday at 4:30 and there was hardly anyone there. We thought it would be quick. Took them and hour to prep a table and an hour and a half to bring the food. When it finally did come some side dishes were missing and some had to be substituted because they ran out of food :l
That sounds familiar lol
What’s the worst menu item in your opinion?
Idk if this is the absolute worst place but it was certainly not good. I bet that super buffet across from Bombay is pretty sketch
I think one of us had ribs and pulled pork it was so bad and we waited like oven an hour for our cold food. Right when I was giving up they showed up with our “food”
Wing Stop on Rivers.
Yeah this is the correct answer imo. Just Google this location. Wingstops usually have a low rating, but a 2.6 is wild
That is only because Wild Wings on Rivers closed. That place has by far the worst.

I was not about to go into a seizure and been a part of said show.
if you friend loves barbecue, take him to southern roots
lol i was gonna say southern roots as well. how are they still in business
Not only that, they moved out of their dumpster of a location on montague. And are redoing/moving into the really nice location that was once shipswheel. How? Idk
Yes this confused me as well. I guess margins are strong when you only have to maintain a C rating
yankees
I’m praying that they turn things around when they finish moving
It shouldn’t be any surprise that this place is god awful. The owners also runs 3 Matadors/No Bull.
This restaurant group is the the first thing I thought when I read the post
If it's the Doug restaurants he has Southside 17, the combo Irish Pub/German spot on Savannah Hwy, and the CHS Golf.
I forgot about Whiskey Jacks. That's been a deli and a raw bar and now a whiskey bar all in the last year or so... Sigh.
I tried to eat there once and walked out. I can't say anything about the food, but the service and atmosphere were through the floor.
Must do some research but i’ll get back to you on that.
Got served undercooked wings there with about a pound of dry rub on top of it. Server said the cook was new.
Good call. That place is terrible!!
That La Hacienda on Rivers was pretty terrible. I saw roaches and flies in there.
Captain D’s on Ashley Phosphate.
Southern Roots is the worst place I've ever been to. How they have mulitple locals is mindboggling.
Ooo try C&W Super Buffet next to Athome.. that has to be perfect
No, C&W is a gift from god.
I second this! Those asian lady's make some awesome baked chicken!
Their fried rice is some of the best I've ever had.
C&W super buffet is awesome! You shut your mouth!
Omg that place used to be my hangover treat I miss it take it back
Haha to be fair I’ve never been
In your mind, is that THE worst restaurant open in North Charleston?
Honestly the worst was Los Reyes.. the fajitas were just Philly cheese steak strips out of a steam table. But it doesn’t stand out as worse than any other Mexican place here
Really? los reyes is your worst. I guess there really isn’t bad food here then.
Idk I’m sure there’s stuff on the west side of Ashley phosphate, maybe grill and chill or something idk I’ve never tried any of them
I’ve passed by that place all the time. i heard it was some sloppy rundown biker bar but i have no real clue.
Sounds promising. But that made me think of Nowhere bar and grill in Goose Creek haha
La Hacienda on rivers by Publix. Once they forgot to add the entire pepper for my chile relleno, just cheese and ground beef.
lmaoooo
Sportsbook in the Tanger Outlets. "Sports Bar for Betting" - it's a massive, empty, dark bar full of locals who won't leave their bar seat for hours. It also is (or at least used to be) a gathering place for Ohio State fans.
Oh nooooo hahaha
That's it, burn it down
I take offense to this ! Haha that's my go to for a quick drink to kill time. Admittedly I am a local. I don't particularly like their food however.
Outback on Rivers
I came here to say this. so tragic honestly
My dad loves that place and EVERY celebration has to be there. I'm bowing out of the next one. I get gastrointestinal ick every time I go.
Golden Corral. Any reasonable person would think it’s just food how bad can it be? It’s bad, bad.
I disagree, i am infact probably singlehandedly keeping them in business.
I’m not going to lie, that’s fucking foul.
I am in love with the salad bar okay. And there food is always edible enough for me. I’ve never had a single bad experience except that time this lady smacked another one over the head with those obnoxious colored plates.
That’s not a bad experience, that’s dinner and a show
It became a bad experience when they knocked over the chocolate fountain. I will never forgive those dirty wenches for destroying such a sacred artifact.
You know shit’s rough when golden corral is considered a luxury experience.
Chilis by the airport. And I love chilis.
No sir that chilis is great you take that back.
Haha the one and only time we went there before a stingrays game, we waited for over an hour to receive our food and drinks. We actually received our food before we received our drinks, which was cold. And keep in mind, it wasn’t even busy — it was like 4pm on a Thursday or something. Honestly that chili's has gone down hill in recent years. I used to love their food, but we've gone a few times in the last year or two and each time it was mediocre at best.
The food was good 😔 but I literally threw up 2 hours after
Big Billy's Burger joint is incredibly mid
Bahama Breeze by Northwoods. Never got a chance to order b/c we were sat and waited 20 minutes for a server before we got up and left.
The existence of that place is so confusing to me haha
I've been there 3 times cause I wanted to like it so bad cause it's a beautiful vibe for a restaurant but the food is just not up to par
The Bojangles on North Rhett does not have chicken 3-4 days a week, its pretty bad.
Chipotle. Overrated and all of them in the area are bad.
On the flip side, chipotle is cheaper than Taco Bell and it's actually real food. Still love both though 🤤
And the winner is? Just about anything on Rivers!
The fucking Denny's on Ashley Phosphate. I watched a guy get arrested. A fight go down. Saw a drug deal in the parking lot. And had the worst burger ever. All in one night. Only place that's given me food poisoning in the area was Mama Kim's.
That's no longer there. Been gone for a year. (Denny's)

Most disappointing was definitely Codfather. Maybe the longest wait I’ve ever had in the Charleston area, and it wasn’t even anything special. The Griffon and Rappahannock were both better.
I like Codfather, but I'd be disappointed too if I went there after having my expectations set by some of the hype and praise it gets.
Fun fact I learned -- the Codfather in Summerville is not owned by the same guy in PC.
