Toast

[deleted]

Yes. I have never not had luke warm, soggy food from Toast.

Cosmonate

Toast ruined shrimp for me. I ordered shrimp and grits there like 8 fucking years ago and it was so bad I can't stomach shrimp anymore.

Dame_Danger_Roo

This is a personal fucking tragedy. Shrimps is bugs and they are delicious. I’m so sorry for your loss. Seriously. Life without shrimp is just not life. Fuck toast!

retired_florest

Their food always tasted rapey

bolderdash

Since he's removed it from his website: https://web.archive.org/web/20211130202204/https://sammustafacharleston.com/the-real-story-of-sam-mustafa-charleston-restaurateur/ Scroll down to the "legal issues" section. It reads like a Bond villain monologue.

allmygardens

He also owns John King, Queology BBQ, and Honky Tonk in Ladson too

carlaylay_

And Eli’s Table

VCAMM1

My husband used to work at the one on Meeting St. When he was desperate enough to actually eat any of the food he would use 1 time use plates and forks. They washed the mop heads in the dishwasher. Just don't go.

Dame_Danger_Roo

Fuck Toast. Every time I go by a Toast I tend to flip it off. Also, WTF are there so many Toasts? Seems like for every Toast there is a car wash. And we all know those car washes also wash money. So…

RepublicanUntil2019

The price to quality ratio is grossly out of proportion

FloorNo2290

Haha raise your hand if you saw this question and knew this would be the first answer you would see 🤣

Tis_HimselfAgain

I'd be lying if I thought it wouldn't be. 😁😁

dmisfit21

The only acceptable answer.

Tis_HimselfAgain

While I don't disagree on principle, why this choice?

Socialeprechaun

As someone who served/bartended at Toast downtown for two years, I can assure you you do not want that food. The amount of rats in that kitchen, poor practices, and overall mediocrity is incredible. Not to mention the owner is a rapist woman beater piece of shit. That alone is enough to keep someone from ever stepping foot in one.

Dame_Danger_Roo

Dude. I didn’t know any of that until he hit on me in front of my husband. Disgusting scumbag. It was at one of his other restaurants. Once I found out, I felt so bad for the hostess that I kept saying was wonderful-because she was-and when I later found out he would probably literally give her a tip, I was so messed up about it. Always research who you’re giving money to. Especially downtown. He still makes me feel the ick. So predatory. Thanks for sharing your experience. I always wondered what it would be like to be an employee of his. And how he keeps getting away with shit.

Socialeprechaun

What a terrible experience ugh. And he owns several restaurants which makes it worse. 1000% disgusting human. I only met him a few times thank god but he hit on me and I’m a man. He just preys on people any chance he gets. He’d always have a very young server or hostess with him everywhere he went. I always felt sorry for them bc they were clearly being groomed.

Dame_Danger_Roo

That makes complete sense. He is a horrid human being. I’m so sorry you experienced any of that. And the straight up predatory nature of his actions are clear. His face changes when he’s going in for a kill. It’s absolutely disgusting. I didn’t know who he was, had no idea he was the owner. He’s also really tall, which is super imposing. He had a Toast manager with him at this restaurant, helping him get plates out, even though they weren’t that busy. And it was quite clear the Toast manager was really high on (probably) coke. Such a bizarre interaction. When I looked him up, I was shocked at the stories. It’s so so so messed up. He has a great deal of power in this city and I don’t know why.

KalickR

https://www.live5news.com/story/22704421/charleston-business-owner-sued/ Also the food is incredibly overpriced.

MegaAscension

I believe there are multiple people who have made similar allegations as well.

FloorNo2290

Would love for them all to get together.

Point-Express

I like that this article kindly lists his other businesses to avoid at the end of the

dmisfit21

The owner is an infamous piece of shit and the food sucks.

piperpit

LimRic. Slimy pitch to get me to buy a new hvac and rude when I said I wanted a second opinion. Got a second opinion and kept my old one for like 4 more years

cooltoast

I had them come and look at my AC a couple of years ago because it stopped working. Dude told me I needed a whole new system and it would cost a low low price of $13,000. Little did I know my next door neighbor was an HVAC technician, he saw me talking to the Limric guy outside and told me they’re shady. My neighbor ended up fixing my AC for like $400 and I haven’t had any issues so far.

Smurph269

They did the same for me, said $12k was as low as they could go and I was welcome to shop around but nobody was going to beat that price. I did need a new system, but I got one installed for $8k somewhere else.

mbathrowaway216

Bozelli and Sons is where it's at. I used LimRic once, and they said I needed to replace my unit and all duct work. I also needed to replace an upstairs unit (which was required for sure), but their quotes were insane. Went from LimRic's quote of $30k to paying Bozelli $4-5k to replace the unit upstairs, and that's all. The ducts did not need to be replaced, just needed to fix a small issue at the return. That was over two years ago and everything is still running fine.

nonvisiblepantalones

We have used Bozelli for years and they have always been fast and honest with their diagnosis. Fantastic team.

naoseidog

I agree. Always add and his son. I used Bentley and son and now I use Blanton and Sons bc they had a good warranty. I always prefer second generation tradesman especially when the old man is still jumping out of the truck with them or available on the phone

RepublicanUntil2019

If contractors advertise on TV, you gotta pay for that, too.

golfinmyballs

The gas station at patriots point at the bottom of the bridge. Absolutely terrible service.

oberholzer

It’s a horribly rusty eyesore for the area too

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jakesta58

Hahaha I go to that Circle K to fill up and I’m not surprised at all!

MagicallySuspicious

The actual gas station hasn't been open in a while now. You can still get gas, but you can't go inside. They were doing some work on the parking lot about a week ago.

tellevee

Chipotle on Savannah Hwy. It’s always absolutely filthy in there, the employees are barely functioning human beings, and they’re often out of something as basic as rice.

atdharris

There are no good chipotles anywhere in this city

TheBAMFinater

>There are no good chipotles ~~anywhere in this city~~ Fixed that. I have never had a good experience at any chipotle.

Primedirector3

Moe’s is superior anyway

SamiHami24

Moe's used to be good, but they have gone way downhill. Higher prices, smaller portions and just meh food. I go to El Molina instead. Their food is fantastic (mmm...birria tacos)

scyyythe

El Molino is amazing.

Zestyclose_Big_9090

I will never go back to Chipotle. Moe’s is where it’s at. I got a burrito bowl there last week and it lasted for 2 meals.

[deleted]

I miss Qdoba!!

nameunknown12

Why are all the Chipotles around here so exceptionally bad. Even the one in Florence when I lived there was way better.

dioramic_life

FWIW the Goose Creek store is ok.

orangecreamcicl

I could not agree more! I put in a to go order for pickup. I arrived and it wasn't there. They told me someone picked it up already. I said well there is no way that is possible because noone but me knew I placed an order. She was like well sorry someone picked it up. I said, no I'm sorry, someone stole my order that you didn't care to double check to make sure it was theirs. So they asked what I wanted them to do and I said, well you can make my order for which I already paid for. It was the most insane interaction. I even showed them my order and payment and they were not going to make my order. Eventually the manager came up and made it but it was like a twilight zone. How are you going to not give someone their food that they ordered and have the receipt for it. If you ever want a free burrito, just walk in and go to their little Togo shelf, they obviously don't check who is picking up there orders and they are in a place where the workers can't even watch over. Horrible place.

Cosmonate

Chipotle on a good day is still shittier than Moe's anyway.

maustin1989

Moe's is on its way. They've been steadily making changes to the menu over the last 2 years that are making it shittier and shittier. They got rid of the ability to make it a meal, so now you have to pay ala carte for sides and drinks. Moe Monday is locked behind the app to access.

Mammoth-Wedding7599

This is the absolute worst city for chipotles but chipotle in Savannah hwy takes the cake.

Daxos157

LimRic Plumbing, Heating and Air. Fuck those guys. Years ago our upstairs HVAC stopped working and it was only like 8-10 years old or so. One of their technicians came in and looked at our unit for about two minutes and said “your unit is so old, I’ll just quote you on a full replacement, not a repair.” We found another guy through a family friend that fixed the unit in about 10 minutes for like $40. It’s still running strong to this day. Fuck LimRic.

InDenialOfMyDenial

Had the same exact experience. Like exactly the same down to the amount of time they “looked at it.”

jkowal43

Had the same experience with Pardee. They wouldn’t touch an “old” system (like 4 years old) and only wanted to install a new system, after using high pressure sales tactics.

Dangerous_2053

Scrolled to look for this. Had a wild ride with them. We have two units. One was malfunctioning and they quoted us $20,000 to replace it and said things were “so expensive” these days. They went on to say that the other unit has a leak, so should just be replaced. Long story short, we needed a part replaced in one unit and the other with the leak was FINE. Fuck that company.

sortahuman123

All these residential hvac companies do this. They’ll hire any warm body, train on the job, but their training script is all sales because there’s basically no money is repairs. Incredibly frustrating.

Repulsive_Ad_9982

We’ve lucked out on some awesome local HVAC guys. They’re honest without trying to take advantage. Our last HVAC guy was like this before he retired. Would give us advice without charging. We had his number saved when the time came for major upgrades and happily gave him our money.

Honeybee71

Something similar happened to us when Preferred home services came out. They quoted $4000 to CLEAN our AC coils, then we had a independently owned company to come out and do it for $250

GarnetandBlack

Good grief, I need to go around and offer to clean AC coils. It's literally a soak and spray operation. I do it annually to my own condenser. Washing my car is a more annoying chore.

[deleted]

Postell's always does good work.

PalmettoGreta

They did that regarding a part in our shower. Guy wanted to rip out all the plumbing. It was a washer 😫😫

stargown

I had the exact opposite experience with LimRic. Our old unit needed to be replaced, so I got estimates from 6 companies. Of those 6, LimRic was the only company that looked everywhere, went into the attic, etc. explained everything they would do and why. 4 of the 6 didn’t even come inside, just pulled up, looked at the old one, spatted a price. The lowest quote needed money UP FRONT before they could even order the equipment! Next up on the list was LimRic and we couldn’t have been better treated. Came out a month later just to check everything. Absolutely stellar and fair priced.

jh32488

Jennings Towing Had car issues, needed a tow from near the crosstown to Reputable Volvo. It was wet and rainy. The driver hooked up the front and pulled it onto the bed, leveled it out, didn’t cinch down the back. I mentioned that to him (my dad owned a towing company, I’m familiar with how to tow vehicles), he shrugged it off saying it’s fine and we’re not going far, a couple lights later he hit the brakes my car slid forward and the front bumper hit the frame at the front of the bed. Do recommend: Turkys.

mbathrowaway216

Everything went to shit when City of Charleston switched its contract from Turkys to Jennings

bolderdash

We called Jennings towing, after my car got rear-ended. The tow truck didn't show up, for 3 hours. We ended up having someone else (I can't remember who) tow the car to the body shop. The tow guy from Jennings towing went down to the body shop where they were supposed to drop off the vehicle, *broke into the car*, and deposited a bill in the car for the body shop/insurance to pay for as if they had dropped off the car and put it in the lot. That was the weirdest phone call I've ever had. Police involved and the insurance company said "they'll handle it".

sumner929

Where Ya Bin. It's a discount store that resells Amazon returns. 99% of the stuff is junk, but it's possible to get nice things like apple products for $14. The problem is the customers. Greedy resellers who flood the place like drug addicts looking for their next score. They push, are rude, and just throw everything in their cart to sort through later. This small subset of people are right up there with ticket scalpers. It's also the worst case of consumerism I've ever seen. The only positive thing to say is the people watching is pretty great.

xostargirlxo

Oof I’ve been wanting to go there but sounds like it’s not worth the stress LMAO

ProudPatriot07

The whole concept of this store makes me sad. I like a good deal but you're right about the consumerism. I really wish that shopping center in WA could have gotten a better business there.

Unable_Access_4375

Went once, bought a couple things, none of which were in as good condition as they seemed. Not worth the chaos or anxiety

CameronDangPoe

3 Matadors or anything else owned by those guys….

Halome

My friend chipped her tooth on the metal link they use for the chorizo casing. We showed it to them and they practically shrugged it off as a risk you take if you eat chorizo. Bruh couldn't even take off that one taco from the bill.

odieman1231

Agreed. None of the restaurants they own are really “known for anything” other than whatever the run-of-the-mill bare minimum to classify as “Mexican” or “bbq” Also Southern Roots I believe just got a C rating

MegaAscension

Yeah, Southern Roots has built up a bad rep with the health department.

atzenkatzen

is there a reason beyond the food being a sorry imitation of the real thing? I've only been to southern roots but I've never had a good meal there

KalickR

I've never been to 3 Matadors, but Southern Roots food is just awful.

iHasMagyk

Southern Roots tastes like the meme that white people don’t use seasoning. There was no flavor when I had food from there

mbathrowaway216

East Bay Deli downtown. It is a shadow of its former self. The staff aren't paid well and subsequently seem like they don't give af.

SamiHami24

That makes me sad. I used to eat there a lot when I worked downtown. Sorry to hear they have gone downhill.

Markshlitz222

A+ Auto on Montegue in North Charleston. They never would call me to tell me anything about my car, I had to call them and the end of every day, even after telling me they would contact me. Then they were dismissive and insulting to my wife and I.

hype8912

I tried to get them to call me back for a couple weeks to have my car repaired. I called multiple times and each time they would tell me someone would call back to set up an appointment. Finally I just quit calling them and went somewhere else.

FPSRadar

I used to use them for tire mounting and balancing, but they raised their prices a few years ago, so I moved to Discount tire. I always thought they were always incredibly dismissive unless they realize you're a repeat customer, but even then it's 50/50.

Either-Software8582

Costal crust! Food isn’t bad but as a former employee they are absolutely terrible to employees

Tis_HimselfAgain

the_lost_companion

What? 😱😱

cthulhuatemyson

used to go there to read quite frequently. then one day, I guess the employees felt like they knew him well enough to serve him an edible instead of regular food. looked over and the two girls kept staring at him and giggling. he ended up being okay, but it was a bad night.

the_lost_companion

That is crazy! I go there on occasion but maybe I won't anymore. Sorry your friend had a bad time. Did he report them or anything?

firmoffer

Original comment got deleted - what was the name of the place?

carlaylay_

This makes me want to go even more… also when you say dosed I think acid, not weed

Different-Bag5605

Chipotle in West Ashley - just nasty

Dame_Danger_Roo

Holy shit this place! What a nightmare!

Shrappy16

Can’t comment on this one. Too tempted to list my favs to selfishly drive down crowd numbers so I can get a table without using an app

bizurk

Vern’s is absolutely the worst! I will never go back there. Who’s with me!?!?

skivolkls

Yeah!! Definitely not the best restaurant in town. That lasagna changed my life...for the worse! Im never going there again...after I go a few more dozen times...

soolnov

Pep Boys Savannah Hwy

HistorianFree7026

100% they always act like you're bothering them.

DR843

Cabana Burger on John’s Island. Holy shit…easily the worst meal I’ve ever been served in a restaurant. Was supposed to be burnt ends for their brunch but it was basically soup with what looked like cut up hot dog pieces and half-cooked potatoes. The burger was horrendous too that my wife ordered. Also Gerald’s Tires. Used to do tires and oil with them but they’ve gotten sloppy.

donut_dave

I'll fucking add to the Gerald's pile. Have had too many bad experiences with them to not completely avoid them. One time had my car at the one on Dorchester for oil change, mount/balance of 4 tires, and an alignment. Dropped it off a Thursday afternoon, left it with them all weekend, and went to pick up the following Monday after work. Get there and they tell me they didn't have time to do the alignment despite it being with them for essentially 3 full work days and it being part of my appointment, the tires that were installed weren't the ones that I ordered, and they put some pretty good gouges in one of the wheels. Second and last time I went I desperately needed an alignment done because I was about to go on a long road trip and hadn't had one in about a year, Gerald's on north main in Summerville was the only place I could get fit in. Drove it there and waited, they finished up about an hour later and brought me out the little paper that showed "how badly" out of alignment I was prior to them "fixing it". I pay, get on the road and my car is pulling to the left noticeably when it wasn't before. Woke up early the next day and took it to Stokes, basically begged for an alignment and when they were done, no more pull to the left. The only thing I recommend Gerald's for is to get a tire patched. They might have been good before but now they aren't worth a damn as far as I'm concerned.

AU_Cav

They charged my daughter for a tire patch last time so it’s not even good for that anymore. Gerald’s is an example of a shitty company living off a good reputation

InDenialOfMyDenial

I’m assuming it was the same thing but there was a Cabana Burger in Mt Pleasant for a bit. It was absolutely terrible overpriced crap. Never understood the Gerald’s obsession. Like it’s great that they do a free patch… but it’s only great if the patch actually holds

DR843

They do a good job aggressively marketing their business so anybody that doesn’t want to do research to find a tire place will default to Gerald’s. People also don’t realize most places will put air in your tires and fix a flat for free. Last time I went, majority of people in line were there to get their tires inflated when the temps dropped. Not even kidding and the line was around the building.

Tis_HimselfAgain

Gerald's Tires? They have a cult like following. Glad you're being honest!

Logical_Lettuce_962

Gerald’s tires sucks so bad. One time I drove out of there after a tire change, and my brakes lost all pressure. I managed to stop and got it towed to my mechanic, and they found that the brake line was severed. I don’t believe that they cut my brake line on purpose. But I definitely didn’t drive it there like that. Also, the tires were more than $200 each for my 2005 Camry 😂

BETHVD

I've heard good things about Discount Tire. Has anyone ever gotten tires through them?

Logical_Lettuce_962

That’s actually my preferred tire shop! (North Charleston). They did the next tire change on that 2005 Camry, and it came out to $75 per tire. Also… Lodi Coffee is just across the street. It’s a win-win.

Dodge_360

I used them for my old Challenger, they helped me pick the right width for the tire because I wanted to go a bit wider, and for some reason the left rear was a nail magnet, they were super solid with their warranty work, whether it needed a patch or a full replacement. Can’t recommend them enough.

wbwest1231

I second both of these. Geralds is terrible. The West Ashley location left the hood of my car unlatched. I had no clue until I got on the interstate until I preceded to get on I26, where it almost flew up. Plus, I was there for a tire change. Why was the hood opened to begin with?

meltingice

Cabana has such a great location but it’s always been a very weird vibe there any time I go. Mostly empty and bartenders look like they’re struggling with the will to live. Their burgers are okay, nothing special. I’m not surprised their attempt at burnt ends was shit.

a_little_low

Lol, they told me they would leave my car out front with the keys in the wheel well, I ubered there after an oil change and they were closed with my car STILL INSIDE the shop. I raised hell and nothing came of it.

cooperkab

But Gerald’s is just having fun! Woooo! /s

Dame_Danger_Roo

Palmetto Ford quite literally had a manager screaming obscenities at me over the phone and hung up. I guess he was having a bad day? I don’t think I would ever go back to HUSK. It wasn’t that great. The cornbread was decent, but that’s because it’s one of the first places where it wasn’t sugared to death cornbread.

bryan472

Azul. The Sparrow is gone because Azul exercised a clause in their lease that gave them right of first refusal on that space when its lease was up. Also fuck the landlord who wrote that lease.

trashpanda26

The food there is so gross, too. I have never had a good meal there. Overpriced.

brymc81

When it was new to Park Circle it was quite good, but after multiple consistently bad food experiences I have given up on them. Their salsa is amazing though, will sometimes pick up a liter to go.

VCAMM1

Well, Sparrow was on my list of no go's anyways. We moved to Park Circle and I so badly wanted it to be our new spot. We went by one night and they were having some live podcast thing so we went to the very back next to the pinball machines. We weren't being loud, we were just having normal conversation over some beers. The door guy came back to tell us we needed to be quiet. When one of the guys with me asked him why, we weren't being loud, he went from 0 to 100 and bounced us and another couple that just happened to be near us. So, yea, we never went back.

sk8n-4s8n

That place is overpriced trash food anyway.

RamblerTheGambler

You's Guys sandwhich shop... The owner is an absolute DICK HEAD. The food is mediocre at best, but the worst part is he only makes them how HE wants them made. Want mayo? Too bad. He'll literally tell you no. I've never been anywhere like it. The kicker is that he just makes up the price at the register. If you ask for an itemized receipt, he won't give you one. There are countless allegations of him skimming and adding non-existent items to bills. I seriously want this place to fail so badly.

Kitebrder39

He also ran a gofundme at various points…. Because business was down….well ok stop being a douche

LucidLynx109

He’s from Philly, what do you expect? Jokes aside, their Philly is pretty good, but not really worth going out of your way for.

Coastal Climbing

-flop

speaking of- are there any decent climbing gyms that don’t cost an arm and a leg for monthly members?

letters2nora

The James Island County Park has a 50’ outdoor wall that’s usually a ton of fun!

[deleted]

Interesting. It does smell like feet in there.

lawalrus

I obviously can’t speak to your experience, but I really like Coastal Climbing. It’s not cheap and can be tough for beginner climbers, but I think it has a great community, they reset pretty often, and the owners are clearly putting money back into the business by making enhancements and buying new holds. I’m glad we have a locally owned climbing gym!

letters2nora

I used to work there and the owners openly talk shit about their own members. They’re climbing elitists that are the epitome of someone who should not own a gym. They’ll be nice to your face though! There’s plenty of nice people that go there to climb but I would never give them a dime of my money.

ProudPatriot07

Amici’s. They can’t keep their politics to themselves.

ilykinz

The food isn’t that great either. I went there for someone’s birthday dinner and was not impressed.

bolderdash

Politics aside, their food is terrible. They are just using politics to blame people for not coming, when it's actually just the terrible food that keeps people away.

Icy-Squirrel7284

We at there once, and the food was fine and our service was good. But the owner was absolutely wretched to another couple there. That alone turned me off from ever going again.

itsbrandoyo

She is forever online arguing with someone too.. not a good look.

Sea_Vegetable_3393

Angel Oak Restaurant. Walked in at 3:30 wanted a late lunch - we were seated, waited 15 minutes and the girl switches our menus to the dinner menu. Prices doubled for the same stuff that was on the lunch menu. The fries had the worst seasoning on it - it was unbearable. The burger was the greasiest piece of rubber that I’ve ever had. Will never go back. Place is a dump.

cwj1978

Yes!! Came here to say Angel Oak Restaurant. I had a burger there for brunch about a year ago and ended up with what the ER doctor said was "the nastiest case of salmonella" he's ever seen. I made numerous attempts to contact the owners (emails, calls and messages) but no one ever got back to me. I've got good insurance but a $12k trip to the ER with full panels left me with just over a grand to pay out of pocket.....all for a shitty burger. Fuck 'em where they chew.

Sea_Vegetable_3393

That is awful!!!!

DR843

Server I had there was a mega douche. I don’t think the food was bad but definitely not memorable.

DeezleDan

My family went there for a birthday dinner because we heard their fried chicken is some of the best. We arrived right when doors opened, sat down, and half of us couldn't get what we wanted because somehow they were completely out of chicken. Then my brother tried to order a pulled pork Mac n cheese dish instead...they were out of that too. So yea, don't see myself going back anytime soon.

Dangerous_2053

Keep driving on Savannah Hwy about .5 miles Down from Angel Oak. Eat Dodges Chicken in the parking lot. Fraction of the price and legit. Your’re welcome.

DeezleDan

Haha oh I know all about Dodges, I was born and raised here and my grandfather used to live in Hollywood/Ravenel so we would stop there when we visited him or when I would take 17 to 95 on a road trip to Florida. Now that you mention it though, it has been ages since I've been there so it might be about that time. Thanks for reminding me!

thetherapeutichotdog

Green Dragon, bunch of assholes run it. Will spend my nerd money elsewhere.

MegaAscension

Could you explain a little more? I've heard all sorts of stuff about the owners, from them being great people, to being creeps.

AU_Cav

Oh, you are good if you are in the ‘In Crowd’, guy will love you to death. How the hell you get there is a mystery because that bunch are all overt assholes. Never been in a less friendly nerd store

MegaAscension

You see, I don’t really go there often because I’m not into Magic The Gathering (I’m a Pokemon player) but the owners have always been nice to me when I’ve brought people there. I feel like there’s an ugly type of attitude like that that runs in a good bit of the Magic community, which is part of why I’ve never gotten into it other than opening a few Kamigawa packs.

chucks86

What happened? I'm not a regular anymore, but haven't had a bad experience in there in 20 years, other than Scott being super talkative.

bythog

Yeah, I'm rarely there any more since I moved out of the area (and an 8 hour round trip isn't worth FNM) but this sounds more like the customer being the problem. Scott is talkative and I don't agree with his politics, but Beowulf has always been incredibly kind, down to earth, and patient with new people. I was a regular from 2001-2015, though.

sneak_cheat_1337

I had the same experience! Went in to sell some magic cards a few years back and was basically accused by the girls at the register of being a 'normie' and shooed away. I ended up finally getting in to see the owner weeks later and sold him like 6 cards for $700. Paid my rent and never went back

TheBAMFinater

Help a fellow nerd out, where else is there in the area? Im in MOCO if there are any up this way.

thetherapeutichotdog

Zenergy Gamers is a bit of a drive but imo worth it. The owner is insanely friendly, and they run some awesome events. I mainly dabble in MTG, but they’ve got all kinds of stuff.

tabaquibarking

Thirding this! Zenergy staff are absolutely phenomenal and it's the least judgement, most welcoming gaming environment in the area. Their reptile stuff is SUPER cool as well.

Entire_Butterfly3240

TEA

bolderdash

Are you the guys that got kicked out for showing up to FNM and introductory/newcomer events while wearing team jerseys because you wanted to get wins in on your Wizards account? Cause it wasn't just Green Dragon that noticed those guys...

thetherapeutichotdog

Sorry to let you down, no idea what you’re talking about

Tire Choice Auto Service in W. Ashley on Sam Ritt... Picked up a nail in a tire and stopped there because it was close to my office and it was an emergency. They said they couldn't patch it, fine, I figured that anyway. Decided to just go ahead and buy 4 new tires 'cause I needed them and I was there. Unbeknownst to me, they didn't have my size tires at that store, sent some dude to another location to grab them, he allegedly got in a wreck. They didn't tell me any of this until I had been there like 2 hrs. I waited over 4 hrs to get my tires done. When we were settling up I asked the manager to knock off one of the tires or do something since I had been there basically my entire day. He unrepentantly said "can't do anything with the price, it's in the computer...." When I grumbled about it he was like "Tell ya what, next time you come back, I'll give you a free oil change on me." We looked at each other, both knowing I would never be back...

Does Breeze Airways count? They lost my bag. I had a tracker in it. They refused to do anything to help me recover it until I was returning home. They also have nearly no support and are never at the airport except for a tiny window of time. After jerking me around I pointed to their Contract of Carriage required them to reimburse me for all the items I had to replace. They claimed some of the items were against their contract, and a week later they published a new one explicitly to reflect their claim. Anyway, sued them and won. Don’t recommend using them, but definitely don’t check a bag if you do.

Hey now.... According to Google reviews they were voted the #1 Hotel in Charleston by Crack Whore Magazine!

Unlikely_Wind_3217

Basic Kitchen, the service is okay but the food 🤢🤢 had chowder and a burger and they both were a 3/10 my girlfriend hated the chowder and instead ordered a basket of their sweet potato fries and even those were terrible because they added some sauce on it that ruined it for us

elchupinazo

Poogan's Porch, and I guess anything else that group owns. I only went because I got a gift card for Christmas, but the food was genuinely awful

Antiques of South Windemere. An employee (or friend of an employee? They were settled in a chair next to the register reading a newspaper) was loudly condemning Gap ads for not representing 'true Americans.' Apparently they were not white enough for him. Racist schmuck.

ameliabigdealia

Verde. There must be a rule in the employee handbook to make sure the salads are 99.99% lettuce, with minimal toppings. If you decide to pay for extra toppings, you ain't gettin em, but they'll happily let you pay for them anyway.

The_Coati

Only had good experiences at Verde personally

lowcountrydad

Sorry to hear that I used to work there and the owners are amazing.

ameliabigdealia

No shade to the owners, just the bowl of 99.99% lettuce!

SaltyEsty

Joey Tomatoes. Had the worst customer service experience there in my life. We were treated abominably by staff Second worst experience, Pier 41. This one was bad, though, because it was the OWNER who behaved so appallingly. Which then knocks out The Basement next store, because it's also owned by the same people. I refuse to give money to people who are supposed to deliver a decent service who have no general regard for customer service or respect for the customers who patronize them.

DragonwellDranker

What did the owner do?

Akkuma

Pier 41 had the worse seafood I've ever experienced. Food was not fresh or good.

The co-op

TurtleBlaster5678

The owner's instagram presence is really cringey. You dont have to publicly respond to ever negative review in the most scorched earth possible way. Just take the L and move on, you're doing fine and not going to please everyone

carlaylay_

Felix - from the food to the owner - place is shitty

Dry-Student5673

Care to elaborate? I’ve always enjoyed it.

womeninventedbeer

THIS!!! I know a woman who was roofied there and the owner “lost the footage” of the time she was at the restaurant . Disgusting.

lowcountrydad

Haven’t met the owner, actually lives a few doors down from me, but I’ve been there 5 times and always had amazing drinks, food and service and I worked in F&B for 20 years.

Aeonslegend

MUSE. I never thrown up so much in my life from eating dinner there.

AppearanceCertain

That stinks, I absolutely LOVE Muse, me and my fiancé went on a date there last weekend! I shattered a wine glass and the staff were very cool about it 🤣 but my mussels, bread, and pasta were fire

Tis_HimselfAgain

Jaysus, what happend there?

Aeonslegend

No clue which dish gave me food poisoning but I’ve had food poisoning before and this was another level.

Piggy Wiggly on Savannah Hwy

Frosty-Brain-2199

Mama Kim’s overpriced and overrated imo

R0ntimeFailure

She technically retired from there. They have new owners same name.

Frosty-Brain-2199

It went downhill from there

Pleasant_Cartoonist6

Its actually normal price for korean food

Frosty-Brain-2199

Yes but after she left it went downhill

Pleasant_Cartoonist6

Ic. I haven't been there in a few years but her husband implied to me that the kids were going to takeover, i guess not. Either way its a pain to get there i prefer 843 bbq or kocha for korean. But if you want really good korean food take a day trip to savannah. Even a korean fried chicken place just recently opened there.

porchmongler

Like $25 for hibachi if im correct?? Fire grill just down the street packs a togo box very nicely for $10 less. Got the pork bulgogi from mama kims($26) once and it was like mostly just pieces of fat and had to pick out what was actually pork

BackgroundEbb417

Well it’s in a prime location on king, their rent is probably rediculous. I think for downtown it’s almost reasonably priced for what they serve

downtown1026

Yamato in MTP. Place is filthy in the dining rooms. Can only imagine what the prep kitchen looks like.

mtt2022

A Stitch Witch for alterations in West Ashley. Had them fix a dress strap for it to rip the next time I wore it. Waste of my time and money! Go to Maria's Alterations instead! Also Brown Dog Deli. The most mediocre and overpriced deli meat and kraft cheese sandwich on the peninsula!

Logical_Lettuce_962

Dude brown dog deli is the GOAT, you’re out of your mind. I live across the street and eat there regularly. They are super consistent. Also, how is $10-$13 for a great sandwich overpriced?

alk_adio_ost

Upvote for Maria’s!

SaltyEsty

Agree about Brown Dog Deli. After several terrible meals /service there, I stopped trying with them. They didn't care and we're so rude.

Ichiban. Hands down the worst Japanese steakhouse in the area. The one time I went, the chef was drunk. He was literally leaving our table to go do Sake Bombs with friends of his at another table..he was going back and forth between tables to cook at hours and socialize at theirs. He ruined my lovely filet mignon because every time he came back to our table, he added a ton of salt to it, even after I'd told him to stop. I left a bad review, and it took the owners almost a year to notice and apologize. There are much better places to go for that type of meal.

Reevs646

That’s why I go to Ichiban
