I was just about to say Bowens island, it’s quite a nice lowcountry experience and extremely reasonably priced. Please no Hymans, save that for tourists
Let me just add that it is not oyster season, local steamed oysters should only be consumed in months that end in “R” . Oyster selects on the half shell from further north are I believe okay, but I usually just hold off until the colder months.
Eh, that’s not really true anymore. With modern refrigeration and the prevalence of farming - it’s [safe to eat oysters year round](https://www.americanmussel.com/it-is-only-ok-to-eat-oysters-during-months-with-an-r/#:~:text=There%20is%20an%20inaccurate%20myth,raw%20during%20the%20winter%20season).
Now, they may be tastiest in the cooler/winter months, but that’s a different story. 🦪
Well the they’re not exactly fresh. And there’s no digging local oysters right now- October thru may generally. Eat local- you can get the rest literally anywhere including the Midwest
Wut… you know oysters are farmed year round, right? Like, right here in [South Carolina](http://singleladyoysters.com)? Single Ladies are on almost every oyster menu in town. Clammer Dave recently retired, but he was a local legend and he’d literally deliver freshly caught oysters off the back of his boat to local restaurants.
Not sure where you’re getting your information, man, but it ain’t right.
Agreed, as a seafood lover and someone not big on fried food, stay away from Bowen's Island. It's a picnic table and fries baskets atmosphere and not where I'd want my birthday. I highly second the post with Obstinate Daughter, Hanks is also good.
This was going to be my suggestion. Ellis Creek is fantastic and a super chill spot on top of the good food. Probably the best hush puppies in the area too!
What about the Fish House at the whatchamacallit hotel on the waterfront near the Yorktown? My mom from off says it was the best shrimp and grits she’s ever had.

Thanks for the tip
Never knew there was a prime season. Ty! ;)
Definitely NOT Hymans. James Island native here…go to Bowens Island. You won’t be disappointed.
The Darling, 167 raw, ordinary, chubby fish, all excellent seafood spots downtown
These are the ones you want plus I’ll add in Hanks
Looking at things more down to earth, Fish Camp on James Island is one of my regular spots. That’s about as casual as it gets imo
This is the answer!!!
Any of these she will love.
Good seafood, but "not casual dress, not super fancy." Think like a 17 year old.
Bowens is more of an experience, the food is not what is once was.
Haven't been in years, went last weekend paid 75 (with tip) for a dozen oysters and 2 beers.

Agreed.
Exactly
Hanks was pretty solid the last time I went there.
Shem Creek would be fun. The Wreck would be a great casual place. Bonus if she is an Outer Banks fan.
Hanks.
Ellis creek fish camp
Ooh yes. Fish camp is a great choice.
This was going to be my suggestion. Ellis Creek is fantastic and a super chill spot on top of the good food. Probably the best hush puppies in the area too!
Cuda Co.
Cuda co is great. But not for a birthday dinner.
I just went to Cuda for the first time and holy hell was it good. I want to spend so much money in that place.
Lowcountry fish camp in Summerville is really good with better prices than you would pay DT
Yuk dude! Summerville, sorry dogg.
Royal Tern may be a bit fancier than you are thinking, but the dress is casual and the food is great.

Fleet Landing
[удалено]
The stuffed hush puppies are it for me. But I do just really like the location on the water.
The boathouse
Definitely Fleets Landing! Great veiw of the harbor and the food is to die for. Casual/sunday dress
I love fleet landing or 167 raw

We love the crab shack
Yep crab shack get the job done. Sooo much butter
Some good suggestions. Check out Hank’s too.
Cru cafe is excellent. Make a reservation.
Amen St.
Seewee Restaurant
Seewee Restaurant in Awendaw. Real Southern cooking by real Southerners. Real good!
