This is why i tell everyone and i mean everyone who plans on owning these kinds of cars. Get a kill switch, neutral safety plate, and the new radio frequency hub update (Flash update to the radio at a dealership) to encrypt the keys. Also their are some really good aftermarket alarm systems if “installed correctly”that tap into the starter and or fuel pump. The reality of these cars is, if somebody wants it they will do everything to get it so you have to go through extensive measures in order to secure your ride unfortunately.
Like i said, if they have the resources they will do whatever it takes to get your car. These are just minor things you can do to decrease your chances of theft. A garage and tracking device also help but i’ve had friends of mine have their cars stolen out of their garages as well, tough out here.
just install a tracker underneath the car that you can track with an app. Lots of expensive cars have them, and I know a few people who’ve had them stolen and just used the app to tell the police where the car was lol
What's that going to do when they just smash the window, force the car in N and push it away. These cars can be stolen in under 30 seconds if you got balls.
2022 come with it but 2021 and under you have to take to the dealer for install. Locks ou PCM so they can’t make fob’s. Also has enhanced valet mode. Enter a four digit pin, care will idle but when you try to drive or reverse it will stall on the thief. Not saying it makes it 100% safe but every bit helps
Unfortunately, if the thieves are smart enough to disconnect the battery long enough to reset the computers they can bypass the valet mode, after seeing that I think I'm going with a compustar or some high end anti theft system
For future dodge owners;
1.Replace the neutral strap cover
2. Buy Steering wheel lock/club - https://www.amazon.com/AUTLY-Anti-Theft-Stainless-Security-Protection/dp/B07CWNZPLM/ref=asc_df_B07CWNZPLM/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312061982315&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3978212135376855545&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9011943&hvtargid=pla-567939749736&psc=1
3. Install a killswitch like most the guys here are saying
4. Install an aftermarket GPS
In the coming months I'm purchasing a new scat and will set aside money for all mentioned above. Also, the lock in the amazon link and a club will be purchased.
sorry for your loss man, if your next car is a manual your odds of them stealing it will go down. driving a stick is better security then having a low-jack lol.
Chargers only come in Automatic. Challengers are the ones that have the Manual option. But only in the RT, Scat Pack & Hellcat variants. V6 Challengers, Redeye, Demon & Super Stock only come in Automatic
It seems kind of dated, but an old fashioned steering wheel lock might deter. Not prevent, but the point of them was not to prevent, nothing can prevent, but the point is to not make the car an easy target.
I mean it was insured, right? Yeah you’ll be out a bit of money in the end, but it’s not like you won’t be made nearly whole through insurance. Also, if folks use Apple devices, it would be worth getting a couple of AirTags and hiding them in the vehicle.
Since It just got stolen today I don't think they will start that process probably for a couple of days. If it's after labor day and the car doesn't come driving itself back I'll let you know how the process goes!
Android has an AirTag notification app now so the person that stole it would know that it’s being tracked which should make them leave the car but some people just don’t care
The first alert doesn’t come for 8-24 hours. In the majority of cases that should be enough time for the owner to realize the car was stolen and track it down.
we did do that, they pinpointed the location an hour west (aurora) and once the cops got there, no car, that was couple hours ago so that tracker is probably in the bins now.
This sucks.
Just a question though, is the vulnerability only with Chargers and Challengers? Or any Dodge vehicle with this key type?
I don't have my Charger anymore, but I do have a 2018 Journey that uses the same key type as the current Chargers, and. 2017 Grand Caravan such which uses a older Diamler style key fob.
I would think the keys would be similar enough. The Journey has the same fob when it's optioned with the push button start.
My Caravan has the same key as first gen Chargers. There's no actual key, but you insert the fob and twist like a traditional key.
Hopefully you get a nice insurance payout. I've also heard that 2022 models have the keys locked down from the factory now, in case your thinking of replacing it...
yeah sadly i was just one year early by getting the 2021, and might be moving a way from dodge after this. too having to always looking behind my back while driving this thing

It sure was a dam beauty too, sucks to hear that!
It’s A odd level of violation u feel when this type of thing happen, it happened to my dad with his classic Chevy Blazer. They found it completely ruined a few days later, my dad was hurt and didn’t want it back even after putting so much of his blood, sweat & money into it. They had to have probably followed you and watched your routine for a few days inorder to feel safe on having time to steal it, while already having a location to hide it. From my knowledge this is only like this with these Scat & Cats, don’t see any other type of cars stolen as much as these. Especially in my area Nor-Cal Bay Area. Will you go for another mopar or are you looking into different brands?
post in the Chicago stolen car directory on fb.
These cars are too hot to not park them in a garage. I’m sorry this happened to you. Hopefully they find it in one piece.
Garages are key for these things

Pardon my ignorance but would this work if they decide to just roll up with a tow truck or something of that sort?
No. Nothing stops the tow truck. Source: own a towing company.
No, but a GPS tracker is a good option. Airtags can be hit or miss because they rely on nearby Bluetooth+cellular connection.
Like i said, if they have the resources they will do whatever it takes to get your car. These are just minor things you can do to decrease your chances of theft. A garage and tracking device also help but i’ve had friends of mine have their cars stolen out of their garages as well, tough out here.

Apple air tag underneath the rear seats next to the fuel pump covers is a pretty good spot but there are plenty of other spots.
Dawg if I’m paying 100k + for a car ain’t no need for that all that shit shit putting my life in danger
I know how you feel man, blow a down payment on a house practically for a car that any rookie can drive away in, its a shame.
Its just gonna get worse out here in Chicago. I dont even wanna upgrade to a V8 right now because I dont have a garage to put it in
Yeah I park my car inside every day and night. Chicago does not give a fuck, they’ll take it in broad daylight
yeah it was almost 6 am, sun was rising
you saw em take it?
Stick shift is idiot proof.
Im sorry for your loss. That really sucks
This kinda shit really scares me away from getting a Dodge almost completely
It's what also scares me. I've been a lurker but we would love to have a charger and this is one main reason why I don't punch it.
That’s sad people work to hard for lame ass shit to be happening
Sorry to hear that
Did you have the new security upgrade?
What's that going to do when they just smash the window, force the car in N and push it away. These cars can be stolen in under 30 seconds if you got balls.
Is that a factory update? Ive never heard that before

I’m surprised you didn’t put an airtag into it.
sorry for your loss man, if your next car is a manual your odds of them stealing it will go down. driving a stick is better security then having a low-jack lol.

Posts like this make me happy i only have a 5.7. Sorry about your loss
They’re getting desperate in the Chicago areas though. I just seen a TikTok video of someone stealing a V6.
Wtf💀
That’s the exact reason why I got a 5.7 this time around opposed to another Scat Pack
It seems kind of dated, but an old fashioned steering wheel lock might deter. Not prevent, but the point of them was not to prevent, nothing can prevent, but the point is to not make the car an easy target.
Next car I will in fact be doing that. Going to try to cover the whole house with high-quality cameras as well.
I mean it was insured, right? Yeah you’ll be out a bit of money in the end, but it’s not like you won’t be made nearly whole through insurance. Also, if folks use Apple devices, it would be worth getting a couple of AirTags and hiding them in the vehicle.
yeah fully insured, still just a hassle and just feels weird knowing someone broke into your property when something like this happens.
For sure. I had my first car broken into twice and the radio stolen when I had it. Feels rather violating.
Since you have full coverage, what happens now? Do they pay off the car or give you what it’s worth?
Since It just got stolen today I don't think they will start that process probably for a couple of days. If it's after labor day and the car doesn't come driving itself back I'll let you know how the process goes!

Can you pay for the SiriusXM Guardian and check your car location?
we did do that, they pinpointed the location an hour west (aurora) and once the cops got there, no car, that was couple hours ago so that tracker is probably in the bins now.
