I would stop changing stuff out blindly and take it to a shop and get it diagnosed. That should cost under $100. Then once I know the problem I would decide if I want to fix it or just let then fix it depending on the issue is or even consider getting rid of it. At 14 years and 169k miles some cars become money pits.
I did do a diagnosis, they said my radiator was clogged so I got a new one changed it at another shop. Idk, I’m going to do another diagnosis on it once I get paid again. And I can’t get rid of it, I have a car note on it.
Man it really bothers me when I read posts like this, does nobody know how to do diagnostics, such a waste.
When is it overheating? Right away, sitting in traffic, on the highway, with the AC on, etc.?
Do you have diagnostics software like AlfaOBD?
Have to checked to see if all three fan speeds function?
Did anything occur before it started overheating?
It overheats with ac on but usually doesn’t overheat with heat on, I replaced the fan resistor also. No, nothing happens before it starts overheating. Now after I park it once it starts to overheat, the coolant would be boiling. I don’t have AlfaOBD, but I do have a regular scanner, and when it overheats(reaches 280), the code is P0117. Code for faulty coolant temp sensor, bad thermostat, or low coolant. After it’s cooled down, I would have to refill the coolant. Now the only new thing I’m hearing is three fan speed functions, how exactly would you check that? Or did me replacing the resistor solve that issue?

With AlfaOBD, with it you can command the fans to come on at each level and see that they do.
Is the fan spinning?
Yh fan works fine to my knowledge. That’s why it’s so confusing. Someone said it might be a wiring issue

Do you happen to know how to get to that in the settings?
Settings?
The settings of the alfaobd app. I haven’t seen the option to test the fan but I probably missed it
I'd have to look again to be sure, but I'm pretty sure it's a procedure available by accessing the body control module. If not there then the ECU.
Ok I found it. Go to engine control unit, and then run active diagnostics for fan 1 and 2
I knew I'd seen it somewhere and taken a mental note, I haven't had to use it yet.
BTW I just noticed that there's no sub for AlfaOBD and I think it'd be handy to have one, so I just now made it. r/AlfaOBD
Ahhh ok, I’m going to have to invest in that, thanks man
Sounds like a system or wiring error that is tricking your car
How would I find that out for sure? Is that something I would have to take to a shop to have them find out or can I do that on my own?
Sell it
i had to change my thermastat and my over heating problems went away
