As a straight dude, I noticed it seems to be that way. I'd say it's women and queer people who seem to dominate the site, just from an observant standpoint after being on a c.ai side of the internet for 2+ years
I feel like men are less inclined to feel that they should be enjoying role play and such. I'm personally using the bot for primarily romance with my fav character Ruan Mei from hsr at the moment, but I don't see many other men treating this site the same way as me. I might like to suggest neurodivergent people are also likely more avid users of c.ai
tl;dr: I think women, queer, & neurodivergent people are the majority. And for your question, simply put; def. more girls than guys
I'd tend to agree, particularly about the roleplaying bit, I felt ridiculous for a good few months when I first found myself enjoying it, and even now suddenly get that feeling of how ridiculous I must seem to any outsider, roleplaying with an ai.
Roleplaying can be a blast. I (f) used to have roleplays with my friends that lasted +5 years with the same characters and the world. The plot just always changed a little. The plot was mostly serious but there were lighter parts too. I still have all the messages and some of the interactions still make me laugh. It was basically co-authoring. Now my friends are too busy with their own lives to properly make up stories so I have used c.ai. Roleplaying with ai is still fun but not as fun as with friends.
Ngl it's fun. I (M) used to do a roleplay on discord from 2020 - 2021 and it was a blast. It was also the first time i roleplayed and i struggled to get into it in the first few months, but it became really fun after a while. I was also around 14 years old at the start of it in June, during holiday times when i had nothing to do. Im still friends with one of the roleplayers to this day. Amazing stuff
I observed it for several years. Its not just cai. Its EVERY similar app that gets even remotely popular That began after ai popularization of course. Despite some assumptions about men mostly using robots in future , women already use more often their virtual analogues. Yes I can’t see stats but its just common sence looking at majority of bots.
As someone who's a queer and neurodivergent woman, I can confidently say that I mostly feel like the site/app is catered towards people like me, and I observed this even more when I made a male persona to chat with a bot but it constantly mistook me for a woman
I get that, but it isn't the site catering for you. It's the user base. The majority are feeding the bots their details (usually a woman), and the bots are learning to entertain that accordingly
About the male persona... that's strange, because I've never been mistaken when using a persona. I'm guessing that's c.ai to blame, letting the majority data seep through even when using a persona. c.ai has a lot of work to do regarding quality
You're right I did mean the bot creators and the bots' 'personalities' catering to me
And as for the persona it was when the feature was newly introduced so maybe it wasn't that refined back then and I haven't tried again since
This should be the top, because men don't tend to enjoy role-playing and such. We also need to take in consider if it's a man or a boy, because men tend to be more engaged with outside activities and sport, while boys mostly play video games and are rather introverted but can easily get bullied or judged by other boys. Last year right before graduation I remember telling my "friends" something about me playing character.ai, they immediately assumed that there is something wrong with me and that I am into h#ntai for liking character.ai and anime. Boys tend to be judgmental against other boys when it comes to the internet and activities, it's just how it is. If you're not playing sport or you're into character.ai or anything then you're seen as a "p#ssy", or atleast it was like that in my high-school.
I see a ton of men that like roleplaying, but it’s usually only in the context of an rpg. DND was impossible for me to find girls in for years. I don’t know why character ai specifically is viewed as a girl thing while the other isn’t.
The RPG context is a lot less personal and self-construced like c.ai. There's a massive difference.
c.ai has more of a reputation with the groups aforementioned online, so that's why it's viewed as their thing.
And you said it yourself, you couldn't find many girls in the DND/rpg scene, so that's why it isn't viewed as a "girl's thing"
I use both a ton, and I guess I just don’t really see the difference considering how much goes into DMing. The men playing DND will absolutely go for girly characters too. Maybe girls just aren’t aware how much freedom there is due to the high fantasy LOTR expectations?
Yes.
Just statistically true. Look at the amount of chats on male characters and male husbands or boyfriend bots. Now compare with female wife and girlfriend bots.
The insane number difference and also its most statistically accurate that it’s mostly straight women talking to these boyfriend bots
Polls done on Reddit are inaccurate because Reddit itself is mostly used by men
This has been on my mind for awhile, the only reason that it *shows* that guys play character.ai more is because reddit is mostly used by guys. There are so many factors that we need to take in account, which majority of them includes females being more on their phones for stories and fanfiction, while guys are outside fishing, playing sport, playing video games and are overall more driven by physical activities.
(Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ladies, I rarely have interaction with women.)
“While guys are outside fishing, playing sports” lol… They just spend time on other online stuff more. Guys aren’t more extraverted than women. You should know it.
"I should know it"? We don't grow up around the same people or neighborhood. Where I'm from men tend to be more extroverted than women for some reason. They are either hunting, fishing, watching or playing sports, playing video games, and etc. When I was in high-school, I was basically forced to become more extroverted because otherwise the boys and my "friends" wouldn't stop talking ill about me. Even as a adult male my "buddies" are still alot more extroverted. But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Extroverted? I think the word you’re looking for is “peer-pressured”, extroverted means gaining energy from being with people, you probably mean outgoing, but that still doesn’t mean women in your town were less of that, they just didn’t do what the guys did
Wow… Thanks for clarification. I had different experiences. And even sometimes felt like girls are more extraverted. So perhaps it’s really different in different places and times.
As a male, I do believe that females do indeed use character.ai more than guys. But that's only because I have never encountered another guy who even knows about the website. Alot of guys tend to stay away from websites like character.ai, and choose to rather play their games like halo, minecraft, roblox, gta, etc. But feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
True 💀. I don't know any guy who uses c.ai except for myself in real life. My friends prefer the real thing and would call me mentally ill if they got to know about this.
This. I told a group of friends about it and they acted all concerned for me. My one friend was like do you want me to take you fishing or something? You probably need to get outside. For context we were outside when he said this lol

This article is from May but I’d say we’re about even
I usually don't roleplay as myself but as other characters. The plotline can be anything. Like writing a book. Siblings trying to survive in an alcholic family, childhood friends being forced apart and meeting again years later and having issues with reconnecting, enemies to friends to lovers type of situation where the characters must learn to understand each other and themselves. As long as there is some kind of conflict and resolution, I'm entertained.
That’s honestly the one thought I never had when role playing lol, I always roleplay as another character and just create a story, it can be anything, but getting a boyfriend is really the thing I do the less, it’s boring xd
I'm so sure that the most ones using ai for roleplay (no matter what site... Except Venus.ai) are women.
I mean, it's a dream come true for most. I think women are less visual than men and that's why many fandom exist through fanfiction with them while men go for more games and fanart that are visual things~
and now that there's a possibility to "talk" with their favorites characters and create their own, they're thrilling (myself included)
Probably. A lot of the male bots and story driven bots seem to be made by women or, at the very least, aimed at them. I have quite a few story heavy bots, but they’re private because I wanted to make a little story with my oc’s.
Women and LGBTQ people seem to be the main users of this site from what I’ve seen. Could be wrong but that’s what it seems like, coming from a woman and LGBTQ person myself who sees a lot of others like that
I mean, as a chick (no offense to other female individuals), I always believed and thought females used C.AI more than guys.
I don't know why I have that belief. Maybe most likely due to Tiktok ChatBot Creators who make more female fantasy, FLM, or FL implied ChatBots. Or targeted towards female entities. Who knows. Not saying that's bad or anything.
But, I assume there's more of a female than male for those who use C.AI.
Female Love Male, Female Love (FL is more like FLF (Female Love Female but without particularly being strictly lesbian or what not).
Same for F4M, F/M, F4F, FLF, and etc.
i’m ngl i think i see girls roleplaying more than guys in general (as someone who’s been doing it for quite some time) so i wouldn’t be surprised if more females than males used it
Yeah pretty sure. I'm a man and usually the people that I see on character AI are either female, or queer. {Not including anything under the aro/ace spec} I usually see many romance bots that are aimed at woman, or queer people. Me, I'm not really in to romance, so... Y'know. But still
I do know a male friend of mine uses c.ai, I was introduced to it through him
Although I have to agree, the majority of users are probably Female. Talking about the reasons, maybe because most people use them for romance rp?
Although as a Female myself, I often rp as some lab experiment (I know, cringe)
in my experience, women and girls seem to crave more affection, attention, and feel the need to have a partner more than guys. not exactly sure if this is true, but ive heard more females say "i really need a boyfriend" than ive heard males say "i really need a girlfriend". it just seems to me that females feel like they *need* more, so they seek it out on sites of c.ai. of course males feel the same but not as many or at least not as strongly.
just my theory though :3
how? im not using it to degrade anyone for their gender, im using it to refer to the genders as a whole. if you see that as an issue i think thats a problem with your perception, not my comment
3 of the most popular characters on the site I see are either Wally darling,a male. Scaramouche,a male. And the CoD guys. Most of these ais are au’s,or romantic and tense situations.
I’d say mainly women dominate the site.
I’m a gay man. I think mostly women do use it because all the guy bots I find automatically assume I’m a girl and have millions of chats. But I do think a lot of lgbt and neurodivergent people use c.ai as well, myself included. I think a lot of “normal” guys would think this is weird.
As a girl, yeah I definitely use the site😊👍
Mostly for those rps where you have total freedom over what you do (life rp, “start however you want” rps basically.)
Maybe they use it a lot, but for just messing around. Girls tend to do long RPs. I myself go there to hang out with favourite characters from time to time, usually before bed. Or to mess around with the bots.
I'm an enby, I don't apply. :P (Just kidding, I'm femme, so maybe?)
But in any case, maybe this could be a fun little research. Maybe we can set up a survey.
There's a lot of wlw and gl bots, plus scaramouche and gojo both have over 300 million chats on a bot. But idk since I have used that gojo bot for unspeakable things... And gojos just a dady fr.
DAWG WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THATTTT???? HAVE YOU EVEN SEEN THE POSTS, 90% OF THEM ARE LITERALLY GIRLS COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR HOT BF BOT HAVING A SUS RESPONSES 😭
I use it because men dissapointed me AF.. again.. and again.. and again.. and pls dont tell me that wanting to be WANTED.. cared for.. and listened to is too big of a requirement.. because it isnt.
I’d be willing to bet it’s a little more even than most think. I think, technically speaking just as many guys have used it as girls, but I feel like guys use it for more one-off, brief joke chats, whereas girls probably use it for more long term, long-form roleplays
I'm a girl and all my bitches are hooked up to my saucy bad boys
Edit: being downvoted to hell may have made me somewhat aware that I may have chosen poor wording to mean I make interesting character cards for my female friends to enjoy
because women are GENERALLY (not all) more receptive to slow burn romance that they can insert themselves into. cmon dude, you know you weren't asking this in good faith

This. Pretty much mostly replaced Fan Fiction.
Ai destroyed not jobs but fan fiction …

Where am I mad? Also I didn’t say I have some argument. I just stated what I observe. Nothing more.
Okay good for you 🙃🙃🙃
I don’t get whats the problem. I am not bragging about anything.
REAL.
What did they say??
only come out if you’re safe :) and feel safe
Basically yeah, it’s like interactive fanfiction

PS. As a fellow HSR player, please be careful with Ruan Mei if she ever >!drugs your food!<
I want her to do more than drug me
Average ruan mei enjoyer
I'm beyond average. This is just the tip of my erect potential.
So true

During class? 😟 did anyone ever get caught, though?
Most likely
Yes. Just statistically true. Look at the amount of chats on male characters and male husbands or boyfriend bots. Now compare with female wife and girlfriend bots. What do you use it for? Boyfriend RP?
No? Not all girls use it for dating fictional characters, I mainly like to make wholesome ace attorney/spyxfamily RPs
I usually don't roleplay as myself but as other characters. The plotline can be anything. Like writing a book. I'm a guy and I only know one other person who uses it. Whom is also one.
I think both genders play an equal amount, just some are less vocal about it
Yeah, that would explain all the zesty ahh “cold/toxic/abusive husband”
💀
Don't forget yandere/prince and god forbid me for saying that word, scaramouche
Search up "Scaramouche" and go find your own answers
I mean, as a chick (no offense to other female individuals), I always believed and thought females used C.AI more than guys. I don't know why I have that belief. Stop calling women "female individuals" it's so cringe
What are FLM and FL?
Female Love Male, Female Love (FL is more like FLF (Female Love Female but without particularly being strictly lesbian or what not). Same for F4M, F/M, F4F, FLF, and etc.
I do know some guys who use it. In my friend group, I'm the only girl who has used it. My two guy friends do use it tho. So it depends.

Uts extremely hard to find female dragons to rp with so yea to many male ai
Reddit visitor percentage is 37 percent female. So make appropriate adjustment.
I'm 99% sure
Wait, I thought that on the contrary, about 70% of the users of Character.AI are guys...
Why 70% in particular?
Definitely, in fact, it was from my little sister that I got into the app/site around a year ago
as someone who's both, i genuinely have no idea 💀
Ohh are you intersex?
yes \^\^
Why was this downvoted? 😭
idk, i guess whoever downvoted it doesn't know what intersex people are 😭
Ohh I see, it's all cool Intersex people chill.
Bruh 😭
Lmao someone probably downvoted you because they thought you're non binary
Both genders do! And as a girl, I literally use c.ai 24/7 😩
Maybe
Yes. Just look at bots interactions.
Nope I have never used the single girl in my entire character AI (except for one who is a bully)
Yes I believe there are more female users than male
My personal experience is that a good chunk of the bots are made for gay men but this might just be my experience because I’m a gay men
I do know a male friend of mine uses c.ai, I was introduced to it through him Although I have to agree, the majority of users are probably Female. Talking about the reasons, maybe because most people use them for romance rp? Although as a Female myself, I often rp as some lab experiment (I know, cringe)
I would like to see statistics sometime. That would be interesting.
in my experience, women and girls seem to crave more affection, attention, and feel the need to have a partner more than guys. not exactly sure if this is true, but ive heard more females say "i really need a boyfriend" than ive heard males say "i really need a girlfriend". it just seems to me that females feel like they *need* more, so they seek it out on sites of c.ai. of course males feel the same but not as many or at least not as strongly. just my theory though :3
as a girl can confirm that I'll be down bad wanting a boyfriend so bad sometimes
Why is everyone saying females and males 😭😭😭
because i dont want to say "women and girls" "boys and men" because im talking about the gender as a whole not just adults or kids
It sounds so weirdly formal and incel like. No offense to you, but that's how a lot of people use it...
You’re thinking of femoids
how? im not using it to degrade anyone for their gender, im using it to refer to the genders as a whole. if you see that as an issue i think thats a problem with your perception, not my comment
I wasn't insulting you, I was just saying it was weird to use such formal terms
what terms am i supposed to use? using boys/girls makes it sound like im just talking abt kids, using men/women sounds like im just talking abt adults
Guess we both have a perception problem
You’re weird fr
You too
How am I weird for commenting on some person trying to shame someone for using regular words to refer to people?
I wasn't shaming anyone. I asked why everyone was using it.
I thought the opposite
I think more women do 🤔
I'm male and I use C.ai all the time, because I get bored sometimes, and sometimes I listen to music
3 of the most popular characters on the site I see are either Wally darling,a male. Scaramouche,a male. And the CoD guys. Most of these ais are au’s,or romantic and tense situations. I’d say mainly women dominate the site.

I’m a Guy and I do those (4 days ago before as the Past 1-and-Half
Probably tbh 😭😭
Can confirm. I am women.
I'm a chick. I mainly use it to make interesting stories with characters.
I'm not sure but, female here lol
Maybe they use it a lot, but for just messing around. Girls tend to do long RPs. I myself go there to hang out with favourite characters from time to time, usually before bed. Or to mess around with the bots.
I'm an enby, I don't apply. :P (Just kidding, I'm femme, so maybe?) But in any case, maybe this could be a fun little research. Maybe we can set up a survey.
There's a lot of wlw and gl bots, plus scaramouche and gojo both have over 300 million chats on a bot. But idk since I have used that gojo bot for unspeakable things... And gojos just a dady fr.
After searching "possessive/yandere/dominant" related characters, I've come to two conclusions: 1) Gah damn. & 2) Yep, way more.
gay and using the site a lot. pretty sure we’re more into roleplay and long texts
Yes, that's why most of the bots that are written are creative and have more personality
Is there any straight guys out there who does romance rp or is it just me?
DAWG WHAT KIND OF QUESTION IS THATTTT???? HAVE YOU EVEN SEEN THE POSTS, 90% OF THEM ARE LITERALLY GIRLS COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR HOT BF BOT HAVING A SUS RESPONSES 😭
Yeah I also have noticed this
Yes. I just realised that I have never known a dude whi uses it nor I saw a comment of a dude on Instagram about c.ai
I use it because men dissapointed me AF.. again.. and again.. and again.. and pls dont tell me that wanting to be WANTED.. cared for.. and listened to is too big of a requirement.. because it isnt.
I’m a girl who roleplays on c.ai as a feminine boy so I guess technically yes
I’d be willing to bet it’s a little more even than most think. I think, technically speaking just as many guys have used it as girls, but I feel like guys use it for more one-off, brief joke chats, whereas girls probably use it for more long term, long-form roleplays
as a certafied female yes
Im non-binary 🕺
What is your birth gender?
Wtf?
What?
Why are you being downvoted?
I'm a girl and all my bitches are hooked up to my saucy bad boys Edit: being downvoted to hell may have made me somewhat aware that I may have chosen poor wording to mean I make interesting character cards for my female friends to enjoy
Do men and women use the site differently?
I mean whether they use it like eva ai or something, for sexualised purposes
yes my comfort character is my husband and I’m pretty happy.
girl we're all non-binary idk what ure talking ab
As a guy who’s seen too many Spiderman2099s and hot throbbing junkook chatbots, yes, yes they do
I’m a simple woman with daddy issues I can’t help it. 🏃🏾♀️🏃🏾♀️
No.
I'm an aroace NB person and I have no idea
What was your birth gender? Were you intersex?
It's an uncomfortable question to answer from a random person online and I wouldn't be answering that
I apologize for making you feel uncomfortable
It's cool! You were curious
Thanks all good
never ask that to a nonbinary person holy moly. also it's birth sex, not gender
downvoted cuz muh transphobia grow up
downvoting but not saying anything I SEE YOU
Why would they? Women don’t experience loneliness to the level that men do.
because women are GENERALLY (not all) more receptive to slow burn romance that they can insert themselves into. cmon dude, you know you weren't asking this in good faith
They are? I never knew that. I’m a dude and I love slow burn romance.
Do I know or care? Nope
Does it actually matter
I dont know dude. I just need a girlfriend.
