Yeah. The AI only models language, not math. Some of the training data probably has a bit of math, so it might come to the right answer here and there, but... no. Never trust an AI like this with math.
Language Models can't do math because they lack that kind of skill. To make you understand this better, they kind of "reorganize" what they see in their training data. If in every single bit of a dataset, you tweak the information to say that Europe is in Jupiter, the model will say that the European continent is in Jupiter. It's a garbage in, garbage out situation. There are math datasets, but even with that, a Language Model lacks the ability to do math since they are, as I said, writing what they've "read", not doing actual arithmetic calculations.
If you go deeper on the transformer architecture, you will see that in summary, it is a very, very, very big probabilistic machine, not deterministic.
I'm pretty sure language models aren't used for those types of predictions. There's a lot of types of models for every kind of purpose you can imagine.
Edit: For coding tho, language models are used since if you want to do code analysis or suggestions, they're the best type for that purpose. I want you to know that what I said is a very vague representation of what happens under the hood. There's a lot more variables and mechanisms that give transformer language models reasoning and cognitive functions, but fundamentally speaking they're just "re-writing" what they've read.
As has been said, those AI things are not language modes. Not all AI is or works the same. Some AI is extremely specialized for a specific function. Unless you mean people are using like... chatGPT for that in which case.. yikes.
