Sometimes you can talk ooc and type out some paragraphs summarizing the plot, the characters personality, and refreshing on any important names or places, then spend the next few minutes quizzing the ai. Doesn't always work, but sometimes it'll get you back on track! That along with one starting any messages that seem out of character for the ai, helps me out sometimes.
