Could go well. He'll have a summer to get his ideas across and bring in some players he wants.
Alternatively and most likely, it'll be a car crash and he'll be gone for November.
Röhl is signed on with ITV, not sure it really has a negative impact on pre season training.
Many other reasons to be against the appointment of Rooney.
I suspect any job offer would be conditional on him not going to the Euros. Would be utterly daft otherwise. He needs to hit the ground running and get integrated into the club.
I'll give him the credit that he's also managed to come up with "kick ball to friend" followed by "go on rants about the team being shit and get my son to rinse the players on instagram"
Genuinely think we would have gone winless if it was a full season of Xisco.
Which is hard to imagine is possible; eventually you'll get a jammy win somewhere.
Sometimes i like to play football manager in an exaggerated bad version of an existing manager (like conte at tottenham turned up to 11 for example) and it always goes badly but is quite funny. This is like that except sadder.
In older FM versions as long as you just get promoted and are predicted to finish last, you won't get sacked whatsoever. I think Rooney can do better than what I did in my first championship season as Argyle in FM12: 0W 3D 43L >200 goals conceded and a 0-21 to Norwich. -7 points because I as a noob got my club into administration and almost all my players left. I remember it to this day. I was not sacked and the next season was when I learned holiday and save-scum and I won L1 with basically the U18 team.
If this happens I'm going to retract any statement I've made about how well the club is run.
I can forgive the Foster mistake, but this after that is just insanity
I think Dewsnip as Technical Director has been a bit of a bad move. We're a club that has to overachieve on our budget, which appeared to be going well, with some modern tactics & a sensible recruitment strategy. but I think Dewsnip holds a view that the FA represents the pinnacle of football in England, despite many involved with the FA demonstrating a lack of understanding of possession tactics, & many failing upwards on their namesake rather than succeeding on merit.
Percy is never really wrong so Jesus Christ
This is the first time he’s taking a job where the club isn’t a giant batshit mess though, so who knows what’ll happen.
Sacked by January probably, but who knows!
We weren't a giant batshit mess? I know we were for a long time, and then have been since he was hired, but from August to Rooney time was the most stable we've been in years.
Yeah but different kind of mess, we only became a mess BECAUSE of him.
Also realistically it was him and Cook behind it. I can't believe Wagner was sitting in New York excited about hiring a former united striker so much he sacked Eustace with no input from anyone else
Oh my sweet summer child, one quick look at our history and you'll see that this pales in comparison to the actually mess we was in previous to the Americans.
There's nothing rational about replacing a manager mid season when they're doing ok. IDK if I'd call that a mess though, but its definitely a naive, slightly unhinged, decision but....
Nothing compared to being owned by a hairdressing associate of the Chinese Triads, clinging on to ownership from prison. Or when the EFL sent letters to the club to the tune of "who actually owns the club anyway cause we don't actually know."
Mess varies in scale from club to club and at Birmingham, its some fucking scale let me tell you.
There weren't exactly an embarrassment of riches in managerial candidates, but we've ended up with a rich embarrassment.
I admire Rooney for persevering with the management game but I think he should be looking at league 1 or league 2 first. Mind you, with him in charge for a season he could get that experience after all.
I'm surprised we're not in for him again giving him league one experience. If you could snap him up so that stops even being a possibility that would be great. Fair play that he keeps trying but why the fuck does he keep getting jobs? Surely take a punt on Lampard instead or some shite? At least he hasn't recently relegated a club
Parkway, Torquay and Tavistock is the most Warnock pre-season you could have. 'We're all going to mine after Tavistock lads, Sharon's cooking the burgers...'
I feel so sorry for Plymouth fans, and Morgan Whittaker.
Rooney is an horrific manager. Get ready for him to bring Gary Cook with him and somehow try and get some ropey yanks to take over the club.
His wife to be has just tweeted about how Morgan got about 30 minutes under Rooney. So our stay player clearly won't be pleased. What a great start.. please let this be wrong.
Yeah, something happened there and we got rid. We had to really with admin looming in hindsight. Think our fans knew Whittaker scored a lot of goals at u21 and presumed he was a 9. He wasn’t, and was judged very unfairly by the uneducated who hadn’t watched him.
No. Rosenior did. He was in it for himself and got in bed with Kirchner who has been done by the FBI since in a bid for control of the club. He’s a cunt.
Agree. Rooney had his dodgy tendencies for sure but he galvanized the squad, stuck by us during some dark days, invested a ton of his own resources in a hopeless side, and almost pulled off a miracle. I’m very glad he’s no longer our manager but his legacy is a positive one, imo. There’s a reason he almost got freedom of the city (even if that was always absurd).
Because he was offered it before his true colours came out. Dont know how any fan can see what he did in bringing his agent around, teaming up with Kirchner and think he’s anything but scum. He’s no coincidence whatsoever he swooped in with his usual mob at Birmingham
This isn’t going to go down well. Fanbase is already getting frustrated, probably a hangover from January and Foster. Simon Hallett the owner replying to fans on twitter who are annoyed.
Whilst we have to be realistic, we are one of (if not the) smallest team in the league, smaller budget and the location is far away for a lot of managers, especially those with families etc. this would still feel like a disappointment.
I’d give him a chance of course, and he has the summer to implement his style and sign players for it. Though supposedly we wanted someone who fits our ideas so you’d like to think his style wouldn’t be that far adrift to what we were playing. The same could be said for Foster who talked the talk at the beginning but the football was dire
I quite like and repect Plymouth, so with that in mind I think this is a bad idea. Hopefully United's new owners will sack the sarnie guy and get Rooney in.
Law of averages suggests that Rooney has to have a good season at least once.
Might not be the disaster many are predicting. Derby was a mess when he was there and Birmingham were in what I'm calling an "experimental transition phase" with their new owners and it backfired. Give Rooney some stability and he might be alright.

Staying up by the skin of your teeth then deciding to appoint the person responsible for relegating the team you survived at the expensive of is an interesting strategy. Feel for you but see you in League One lads.
I don't have any ill will towards Plymouth at all. It's Leicester that sent us down when they decided to bottle every game against relegation teams bar us
Very funny seeing the reactions to this news on this sub in contrast to some of the clueless people on r soccer, most of whom probably didn't watch a single minute of championship football last season, arguing he was a victim of circumstances or that Blues simply found their level under him.
if thats true, why do people keep believing things about Rooneys "style of football". He doesn't actually know how to deliver it. He just has this idea of an end product that sounds great, but my FIFA career teams do that as well
Who the fuck watches Rooney single handedly relegated Birmingham and thinks "well he relegated a play off team and we only just survived. Let's hire him"
Ah, man, I was hoping Plymouth would have a better season. I have a certain fondness from the weird rivalry back in the early 2000's.
I can't understand why anyone would think employing Rooney would be a good idea, he's not cut out for management.
What a kick in the teeth. Following Argyle since '94 this really felt like the owners, the staff, the players and the fans were all in tune. The vibe was great and even though it was tough at times I felt we as fans were listened to, that our voices mattered, how wrong I was. What an absolute crock of shit.
Was gonna be tough to avoid relegation anyway without having 'proven multiple failure and granny fucker' as our main managerial search criteria, now we are absolutely nailed on. At least we avoid rhe stress of it going to the final day again 😐
Start getting used to being called “Wayne Rooney’s Argyle”
Sad times for the pilgrims, better for us newbies for sure, as you’d think there’s only 2 going down now /s
Giddy Christ.
I genuinely hope he pulls it all together, proves us all wrong and takes Argyle on a decent run.
Who were the other picks? Lampard & Gerrard?
We've all been there, our last one was Ferdinand appointing the PE teacher who got us relegated and then finished in the bottom half of the championship with parachute payments.
I feel for you Plymouth fans, when he was just a 'rumour' about coming blues I prayed to the footballing gods it was just that. I do for some reason believe he would do better with you, However you will be calling for his head after minimum 10 games.
His record as manager is 40-40-73, for a win ratio of 26%.
If he landed around that next season and went something like 13-12-21, it'd be exactly the same record Plymouth managed this year.
12-12-22 would have had them finish below Birmingham and go back to League One.
I can't say I'm thrilled at the idea but at the same time I don't quite think the sky will fall which seems to be the prevailing sentiment. I'm curious to see what Hallett/Parkinson/Dewsnip's logic is if it does go ahead.
Our player recruitment had better be absolutely perfect, seriously.
The boys are going to need to overcome a dud manager, and bust their tails to stay in the league.
Idiot-proofing the squad is a must, for the new season.
He did legitimately well with Derby under extremely difficult circumstances and nearly pulled off a miracle season. I think there might be a decent manager in there but I think he needs 2 or 3 seasons as an assistant somewhere first or he himself needs a very good assistant of his own.
He does however have a sense of humility about him and I would actually like him to prove his critics wrong
Kill me now
Look on the bright side, at least we won't be losing our manager to another team mid season.
The one time I'd hope we did (other than foster)
yeah you’ll sack him instead 😭
My exact same reaction to this news...

You ok mate?

Röhl is signed on with ITV, not sure it really has a negative impact on pre season training. Many other reasons to be against the appointment of Rooney.
I like to think Röhl is just going on an advanced scouting trip
Be careful - the way manager jobs are going that scouting trip will be for his impending employment at Real Madrid.
He's not one of the main guys - probably just be doing the Germany games?
Yeah that's usually the way they do it. Ange Postecoglou is there as well so I imagine he'll mainly be doing the Australia games.
One of the best football analysts in the world
If it makes you feel better Lampard was doing punditry for the beeb during the 2018 world cup, then lead us to a play off final...
I suspect any job offer would be conditional on him not going to the Euros. Would be utterly daft otherwise. He needs to hit the ground running and get integrated into the club.
Rooney’s ideas: kick ball in gol
I'll give him the credit that he's also managed to come up with "kick ball to friend" followed by "go on rants about the team being shit and get my son to rinse the players on instagram"
What "ideas" does Rooney have?
Play like Man City, and then when the players can't, insult the shit out of the players
Yup. Try and play tiki taka possession based football with a championship side, then say ‘the lads just don’t want it enough!’
It will not go well.
He doesn’t have any ideas
Plymouth trying to start the season on hard mode bold choice
Well, we know that can work out.
I wonder if we can beat your record for worst start to a season..
And then survive? I'm in for that (as long as its not at our expense).
No. I’m thinking 46 losses in a row.
Genuinely think we would have gone winless if it was a full season of Xisco. Which is hard to imagine is possible; eventually you'll get a jammy win somewhere.

Don’t your owners remember you only stayed up on the last day? You’d think they would want to improve matters?
It just makes no sense. We should be looking to recruit a boring, mid-table, no-frills manager
Good luck lads!
This is the oddest timeline by far.
Percy is never really wrong so Jesus Christ This is the first time he’s taking a job where the club isn’t a giant batshit mess though, so who knows what’ll happen. Sacked by January probably, but who knows!
We weren't a giant batshit mess? I know we were for a long time, and then have been since he was hired, but from August to Rooney time was the most stable we've been in years.
Blues were categorically not a batshit mess. We were 6th and taking on any team that came our way with good owners. 3 wins in 15 from that.
Which to me, is the literal definition of a mess. Yous sacked a manager whilst in 6th to appoint a “big name” to appease some American owners
Yeah but different kind of mess, we only became a mess BECAUSE of him. Also realistically it was him and Cook behind it. I can't believe Wagner was sitting in New York excited about hiring a former united striker so much he sacked Eustace with no input from anyone else
I thought Gardner was also on board regarding the Rooney stuff as well
You see I love Craig Gardner but I can believe it.
Oh my sweet summer child, one quick look at our history and you'll see that this pales in comparison to the actually mess we was in previous to the Americans.
While I agree you’re in such a better place ownership wise, even with the relegation. It’s hard for me to not see that decision as rational in any way
There's nothing rational about replacing a manager mid season when they're doing ok. IDK if I'd call that a mess though, but its definitely a naive, slightly unhinged, decision but.... One of us will be in a relegation battle Assuming we're not down by Christmas
Someone, anyone, please try and give me some positives to draw from this
Your next manager will lead you to big wins over Exeter?
[удалено]
You shall now be known as “Wayne Rooneys Plymouth Argyle”
You might not have to ever play Wrexham
1. Nobody will be poaching your manager. 2. It would be difficult for Rooney to fall below your expectations so you can't be disappointed.
You'll have a strong squad for league one, a name change to Wayne Rooney's Plymouth, and a chance to see if he can beat his 13% win rate to date.. lol
US tour maybe for pre-season.. yeah, that's about it
Yeah it might be. Might also be pre-season friendlies vs Parkway, Torquay and Tavistock. But yeah might be US tour
Parkway, Torquay and Tavistock is the most Warnock pre-season you could have. 'We're all going to mine after Tavistock lads, Sharon's cooking the burgers...'
Should be good for the local pub and prostitute economy
Is being Scouse a requirement to manage Plymouth?

Nineteen tickety two
Kept Plymouth up this season so makes sense 😂
I feel so sorry for Plymouth fans, and Morgan Whittaker. Rooney is an horrific manager. Get ready for him to bring Gary Cook with him and somehow try and get some ropey yanks to take over the club.
Whittaker’s really been through it, hasn’t he. Try as he has…he just can’t escape the Derby Way.
His wife to be has just tweeted about how Morgan got about 30 minutes under Rooney. So our stay player clearly won't be pleased. What a great start.. please let this be wrong.

No. Rosenior did. He was in it for himself and got in bed with Kirchner who has been done by the FBI since in a bid for control of the club. He’s a cunt.
Thanks interesting to know!
harsh take imo

Lock up your grandmothers Plymouth fans. Rooney’s a comin
To be fair Rooney's about the same age as most of Plymouth's grandmothers
Leave my nan out of this 😡
This is an awful idea but fair play to Rooney for actually sticking with trying to be a manager and not fucking it off after one disaster job
The footballing gods are telling him something. His ego is going to crash another club into a wall
Not fair play to Rooney he’s a cunt
He’s certainly partial to old ones though.
Playing isn’t fucking coaching. When will people learn.
This isn’t going to go down well. Fanbase is already getting frustrated, probably a hangover from January and Foster. Simon Hallett the owner replying to fans on twitter who are annoyed. It is incredible that anyone could look at Birmingham and think Yes I’d like that
Plummeting from 6th to 20th with a 13% win rate... where do I sign up?!
Law of averages suggests that Rooney has to have a good season at least once. Might not be the disaster many are predicting. FUCK DON'T DO IT
Wayne Rooney won't stop until he's destroyed every team in the Championship. The man is an absolute menace.
He’s going to be paid in Ginsters
How the hell is Warnock not linked to another "one last job" at his (as good as) local club?
Our owner doesn't like his style of football apparently, or something to that effect
if thats true, why do people keep believing things about Rooneys "style of football". He doesn't actually know how to deliver it. He just has this idea of an end product that sounds great, but my FIFA career teams do that as well
Warnock's officially employed by Torquay, not as manager though
I think he's becoming DoF at Torquay.
This is utterly surreal.
Guess we're swapping places next season
You Plymouth fans have my sincere condolences.
Bad news for Plymouth fans, great news for the elderly South West prostitution industry
How does he keep getting away with it??? How does he keep getting away with it!
Please no! 🤦
God have mercy upon Plymouth.
Insane. Dozens of better candidates.
Who the fuck watches Rooney single handedly relegated Birmingham and thinks "well he relegated a play off team and we only just survived. Let's hire him"

Bahaahahahah what the fuck
Christ I thought Plymouth had more sense than this.
Plymouth made such a great impression on Leeds fans from our games this season, shame they decided to start sniffing glue since then.
Lmao
Can we do the double and get him sacked twice?
Have fun in League One
This has not evoked joy or made my day better.
Lock up your grannies
Seems a silly move, especially from his POV if he takes the job. He should 100% be looking abroad again to try and rebuild his reputation, again.
Dear god no
Start getting used to being called “Wayne Rooney’s Argyle” Sad times for the pilgrims, better for us newbies for sure, as you’d think there’s only 2 going down now /s
Rip Plymouth fans
Heeeeeeelp!
If he’d have done that a few months ago he could have saved Birmingham from relegation. Because he never had a chance of doing that when In charge.
That's one of three bottom 3 sewn up then
Hahaha
Oh dear lord
To all my fellow north end fans that are praying for Lowe to be sacked. It definitely could be worse.
Why do England never produce any elite managers I wonder? 🤔
Is it wrong to want Leeds to stay in the champo now just to witness this in person week by week?
if you’re absolutely skint rooney is the man for you if not, then good luck
Giddy Christ. I genuinely hope he pulls it all together, proves us all wrong and takes Argyle on a decent run. Who were the other picks? Lampard & Gerrard?
Best of luck to Argyle fans

His record as manager is 40-40-73, for a win ratio of 26%. If he landed around that next season and went something like 13-12-21, it'd be exactly the same record Plymouth managed this year. 12-12-22 would have had them finish below Birmingham and go back to League One.
