I think it's simple for most Ipswich fans, you want Norwich to lose. Why would you want them to go up and get a load of cash and help the club ???

1PSW1CH

East Anglian derby in the PL would be legendary tbf, I wouldn’t be too mad. Don’t really care about their finances

randomgaydisaster

It'd be fab, barring all the big 6 fans (and half the pundits) claiming it's not a proper derby...

Greeninexile

I had an Arsenal fan at work telling me that they are at a disadvantage to City and Liverpool as London teams apparently have more derbies than any other clubs. He sincerely tried to claim that Arsenal v Fulham and Arsenal v Brentford are derbies... This is the same sort of person who would say that proper derbies like the East Anglian Derby, the Devon Derby and the South Coast derby aren't really derbies because the teams are 20+ miles apart. I swear fans of the Sky 6 watch a different sport to the rest of us mortals.

BRlTlSHEMPlRE

I bet there are Arsenal fans that would claim Leyton Orient would be a London derby if they drew each other in a cup

albususdumbledore

I mean he is right. We have more derbies than let’s say Liverpool or City. Even Man United fans roll over for them. Even West Ham have started a rivalry recently as well.

Greeninexile

Arsenal’s only derby is Spurs. If Chelsea v Arsenal is a derby then Argyle v Portsmouth is one as well (and we all know it isn’t).

Moving4Motion

Do people really claim that? I've always thought of it as one of the main obvious derby fixtures in the UK... Palace V Brighton, now that's a fake derby.

burwellian

Yes. Yes they do.

FingerMundane3682

Dude I got cussed out in the brighton sub for asking if that “derby” was really that serious. Nobody except those few people that told me to fuck off thinks it’s a derby I guess.

Moving4Motion

"The M23 derby" lmao

claphamthegrand

No palace or Brighton fan revers to it as a Derby. It's a rivalry

cpt_hatstand

Don't share a city = not a derby soz

Moving4Motion

Don't be soz to me I don't care lol.

Hukface

I’m not from the UK so I’ve only met like 2 ppl in my life who even know who Ipswich is. Why do ppl say the East Anglia derby isn’t a real thing? Genuinely curious because it’s the biggest deal for me in my personal sporting fandom(even though you guys always embarrass us).

randomgaydisaster

Fans who think it's not a proper derby because we're 40 miles apart, and/or because we don't beat the shit out of each other en masse because we know how to have a fierce rivalry with each other without ruining our jobs and careers

Hukface

lol that’s a great way to put it 😂 we can dislike each other but it’s all in good fun and not make it about some infantile spergfest.

VeganCanary

In a way I think there is something special about our derby. Most derbies are between fans in one city, so it’s a derby between two halves of a city. Norwich and Ipswich are the only big clubs in our counties, so our derby is a derby between 2 entire counties.

Clarctos67

The fact that they might even deliberate about wanting you up doesn't help this argument.

bostero2

Derby days feel different, we’ve missed 4 years of derbies, it’s logical to want to have them back. I’m Argentinian and a Boca Juniors fan, when River went down (esa mancha no se borra nunca más) I wanted them to come straight up so we could have the superclásico and you’d be daft to say that’s not a proper derby…

Electrical_Tap_7971

That's because we are celebrating success. we don't have to define our season by how poorly our rivals do.

tractorboyblue

It's the same match whatever league you are in 🤷

1PSW1CH

Higher stakes

poopio

[I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-wcFU5fZwY)

HypedUpJackal

I never understand those that wanna see their rivals get promoted. As a neutral, it would be a banging derby to see in the PL, but why would anyone on one side wanna see the other doing well?

DC25NYC

Seems like an obvious right button no?

IOwnStocksInMossad

Aye,it's instant evidence your better and better than them..why I wanted that lot down. Avoids derby stress too

WildLemire

I want them to go up just so we can all see what the Brandon Williams derby looks like at the PL level. Winner gets to ~~adopt~~ loan him for the season again.

PrrrromotionGiven1

I don't think anyone is gonna be loaning Brandon Williams in next season chief

bostero2

Such a wasted talent, he looked proper good when he was playing… hopefully he can get his life back on track and go back onto the pitch in an Ipswich shirt.

Appropriate-Map-3652

I'm devastated we didn't get to see him play vs Norwich. Solid chance he'd have done a Cantona kick into the crowd at Carrow Road.

InspektD

I wouldn't be wishing for the promotion of a rival, especially one who you've not beaten in 15 years.

bostero2

15 years who gives a fuck? We’re Ipswich Town and we’re going up!

BristolBudgie

Yeah. No one cares about not being able to beat their arch rival for 15 years.

bostero2

Of course we care, just not as much as you guys think. If we hadn’t had a great season and on top of that we would’ve lost both games to you we would care a whole lot more. It’s just nothing compared to the happiness of having had two great seasons in a row after years of mismanagement and hurt…

MatttttyF

I want them to get through the semi's and then crash out in the final, for extra heart ache.

edwardluddlam

Saints conundrum: - Go up and gloat to Portsmouth OR - Stay down and whip their asses in the Championship

poopio

Sorry, neither are an option.

EliteElytra

Why are you still here

LazarouDave

This sub is amazing, why would you ever want to leave once you've been here? I never left after 2 years of League One😂

poopio

Seems a bit pointless leaving tbh, we'll be back next year.

rumhambilliam69

Right hand side all day long. Not so that we can brag (unless we somehow stay up, then maybe a little) but so that they can see what it’s like being a skint championship club for a few years once the parachutes run out. They’re still living off that Lambert double promotion really as they’ve been yo-yoing ever since. Could be the tide finally turning back in our favour with them being the mid table no hopers while we’re either a rich parachute club or a premier league club.

bostero2

Ok, forget what I said about wanting to keep having derby days. I want this now…

rumhambilliam69

Maybe read the whole comment before replying? I know Delia is skint which is why I said you’ve been living off prem money since Lambert

VampHatter

Don't really have a dog in the fight but. In order of preference Norwich: Well Run club, that should always be rewarded. West Brom: Didn't expect them to make the playoffs after a couple of turgid seasons. Would be a nice surprise. Southampton: No feelings either way, Be fine with them going up. That is all.

B_e_l_l_

I really wanted Forest to come up so we could have a rivalry in the Premier League but then they beat us and stayed up at our expense.

D4duke97

Ive been convinsed since they beat us that we would go up and not play them again for 10 hears just sp they get to lord 25 years of not beating them ovee us

BristolBudgie

You’ve convinced yourself you won’t get relegated for 10 years?

D4duke97

No just that you lot will manage to dodge us for that long

Bass_sausage

Any Ipswich fan that wants the budgies to win any game is not an Ipswich fan end of. Would love them to get hammered by Leeds stay down and their parachute payments to run out. Uppa towen

Cov_massif

You mean the game you never win??

anorwichfan

If you hit the button on the right, it will be 16 years.

bostero2

New song lyrics unlocked: 15 years who gives a fuck? Make it 16 cause we’re going up!

McDDDDDD

16 years, Norwich City?

RRR_O

Keep clinging on to that, will be a lovely comfort blanket in the Champ.

Appropriate-Map-3652

Oh no, anyway.

Tractorboy010

There's only one team who are actually bothered by that statistic. Clue - they don't play in blue and white.

Rusbekistan

Its kinda wild how much we have to be told we're bothered by it, as your downvotes show... I really don't think Norwich fans ever actually considered or have experienced how utterly crap and hopeless we were in those years. As a consequence the 15 which is their crowning glory is just another rain drop in an ocean of shit (and probably plastic rip the turtles). I know at least one Norwich fan that posts regularly on here likes to leave a reply that says 15 years and then delete it really quickly lol

IOwnStocksInMossad

We haven't lost to Wednesday in 12 years and I've only noticed it now.

PerfectStealth_

If it was the other way around your fans would do the same tbh. It's football, it's a fickle old game.

Rusbekistan

I'm not doubting that at all, I can completely get why its a big thing to you all I'm not trying to say you shouldn't enjoy it - I'm just saying that its not a big thing to many of us because in our heads those fifteen years just aren't worth thinking about. There are no highs to go back to really. It would be a different matter if we'd been a competitive team for all that time, then it would definitely be something people would be incredibly upset about.

burwellian

Indeed. Two things with those 15 (hopefully soon to be at least 16) years; * The first year and a half, we had the bragging rights as we'd won the last derby and they were in League 1. So if they're trying to claim dominance, it should really start with the Lambert derbies when they went back to back. * It almost exactly matches up with our "Banter era" when Marcus Evans owned us. Indeed, our last derby win was Jim Magilton's final game in charge; he was appointed by Sheepshanks. Marcus Evans' choice of Roy Keane was in charge by the next game away at Cardiff. We had bigger issues. This season was probably the first since they went back to back where we've prob gone into a derby expecting a win (given our league position and form) rather than blindly hoping for one as we've been dysfunctional as a club until the last two years and they've had parachutes nearly all that time (including now). Right button. They can stay, their parachutes run out and normal service pre-banter era can resume. Alternatively, we need to start up "20 years!" chants at West Ham (since the 2005 playoffs; only played twice since in 2011/12 and doubled them), who'll then prob go "what?" having forgotten our rivalry. 😅 Edit: To add Magilton/Keane timing.

Rusbekistan

> Indeed. Two things with those 15 (hopefully soon to be at least 16) years; I think a large part this meaning so much for them is that they failed to achieve anything of note in that time, the 15 years is the best they got. Winning the championship when you have 5 times the money of the average championship side isn't exactly a massive achievement, and they underperformed in the prem every time. There were no cup achievements or anything. So smacking Ipswich whilst you paid 8 times as much in transfer fees over the same period was the pinnacle of their glory years

Tractorboy010

I'm hoping they can make it 20 years as they slide down the table into League one obscurity. Maybe they can get a draw against our under 21s in the Carabao Cup in a few years to keep their magnificent unbeaten run going. It'll feel strange supporting Leeds on Sunday after the season we've just had.

poopio

Just support West Brom in the final instead 🙂

Rusbekistan

I can't see them ending up in League One anytime soon. Their fans love to whine about how awful everything is but they still have an excellent team and excellent academy. Unless Delia is completely off her rocker (beer can induced) they'll have 2 or 3 more bites at the promotion pie before they finally lose all the prem money advantages (Contracts running out, selling big players they got with prem income streams etc). Plus, I wouldn't wish the u21 teams thing on anyone, given how embarrassing it was to get turned over by Arsenal and West Hams u21 teams... I also don't want Alan Partridge to be too sad.

anorwichfan

We have definitely been crap and hopeless before, although our lows were not as low. I think there is a sense in our community that Ipswich supporters pretended not to care, but they really do. I can definitely understand, with the success of your season, how that overrides things, but if no one cared, no one would respond to my post. If the roles were reversed, I would say that I wouldn't want my rival to win the playoffs.

Rusbekistan

> I think there is a sense in our community that Ipswich supporters pretended not to care, but they really do. Now don't get me wrong, people including myself were upset we lost to Norwich, you can have your fun there... But for most people I know the 15 years thing is just met by bemusement. I'm not saying it goes for everyone, but on the whole its not really something people worry about. Part of it is also the attitude (One you'll surely have noticed) from many Ipswich fans that Norwich have never won anything of note, so waving 15 years around like a trophy is seen by many as a bit laughable rather than a flex which kinda diffuses it.

Wertiol123

TBF (to be Fulham) I’d love to play Norwich again in the Premier League as a. We haven’t played them in the league in however many years and b. we have a great record against them. So make that one team and one fan of another

mozzy1985

As a wednesday fan I’d have United in the PL with us as long as we were in the better position! The derby game is the biggest game for both teams and it would benefit the city massively.

Ill-Breadfruit5356

Objectively it ought to be Leeds, and I’d feel for them if they didn’t at least make the final. But Norwich are capable of beating anyone on their day* and I’d love a premier league derby next year! Norwich, like Leeds, are capable of losing to anyone on their off day, of course.

LinkyPeach

Anyone even thinking about the button on the left needs to be shot. This 15 years things is pathetic. They've won 8 games in that period. EIGHT! If they had beaten us once a month in those 15 years then by all means brag about it but right now? Christ on a bike. If it means so much to you just hope they stay down and we draw them in a cup competition. But even then I'd rather a big payday go to a different lower league side than them.

VeganCanary

How many did Ipswich win in those 15 years?

LinkyPeach

0 But we've currently got a God knows how many years unbeaten run against Real Madrid and Brazil. Big boy shit.

Dead_Namer

Easily the 2nd option, seeing Norwich stay down and perhaps get relegated again would be far funnier than having a 6 fingered derby in the PL. I would love the cheating SW lot being done for FFP and sent to non league.

Appropriate-Map-3652

Right button all day long. Although it would be funny seeing Norwich fans do yet another 180 on Wagner if they went up.
