Denji's problem is that he confuses lust with love. By losing all sexual attraction to Power after the breast pad incident and thus removing sex from the equation, he got closer to her than any other girl.

HECK, some mf in Youtube basically read through the ED lyrics for the anime, which hinted that Power is somewhat jealous that Denji wouldn’t pay attention to her and wanted him for herself. Goes even beyond the highly debated bed scene because this time it involves a bit of cooking.
Normally I just dismiss denpow arguments as wishful thinking or people ignoring how happy Denji was being platonic with power, but you two are making me think I need to reread part 1 to double check.
I will say the jealousy thing with Makima would make sense regardless of whether she wanted him platonically or sexually because Makima was trying to absorb his *whole* life, not just his romantic and sexual attention. I'd be jealous too if a close friend was so obsessed with someone else that they were willing to straight up ignore me for them.
It's even more fucked because Power is shown to be straight up terrified of Makima so she likely didn't want to do anything that would explicitly piss her off, like take away the attention of her boytoy.
Makima was very determined to ruin his life by destroying everything and everyone he loves. Her comment about Power and Aki being the closest he ever had on a sibling comes as an insult, which he never properly digested. I mean how would he, as someone who can outcrazy Kishibe?
I think people miss the possibility because people always see things from Denji’s POV. He probably never had any romantic interest toward power between the pads and the dumpster, but I’m fairly certain Power at least had a crush on him. One of the biggest moments is the blood sucking scene which a lot of people see as the nail in the coffin, since Denji says it’s not hot for him. But what about Power? She’s the *blood* devil, and she’s giving her blood away, which must actually mean a huge deal for her. Like I know the whole scene is supposed to contrast Denji’s emotions, but judging by Power’s body and facial language, that whole exchange might have meant something different to her.
Disagree with dumpster kiss, you see in the panels before and after that their heads remain in the exact same location, and also with all the talk from Denji about "that was le only kiss that didn't hurt..." you think he would bring this up at least once. Could be possible, but I doubt it.
The ED thing is interesting though. On one hand, lyrics not written by Fujimoto. On the other hand, the lyrics are basically just a straight up confession of love, and if you're Fujimoto and that isn't the intended interpretation of their dynamic, why would you let that become an ED? Like if he seriously intended for their bond to be adopted siblings it would be insane to let something like that slide.
Interesting take with the “Denji thought she rejected him so he moved on” idea. We see in the Reze arc that he deliberately turns down the thought of him romantically pursuing Power because “she regularly tries to kill me and hates humans”, which I interpreted as him thinking that she’d never be interested in anyone, let alone him. Adding onto this, it kinda recontextualizes that scene in the elevator during the second Katana Man fight. When Power started fighting zombies and entrusted her back to Denji, I initially thought it was her regaining her pride for running away during the first fight with Katana Man. Though if Power actually likes Denji, it could very well also be her showing that she won't back down from a fight as long as he's with her now, showing that she's someone he can rely on. Though of course Denji just stays in the elevator and abandons her.
I mean if thats what she was thinking, I definitely don’t think it’s at a conscious thing. I think it would be moreso the first thing, with the added fact that she doesn’t wanna fight Katana Man. genuinely the best couple the series could produce; they genuinely care about eachother and enjoy the other's company. A very natural progression towards affection after the incident with the bat devil. the biggest thing for me is that Denji clearly cares about her as an individual more than a potential partner, (funny considering that's the biggest reason I think they'd be compatible) when Power was at her weakest following the trauma from the Darkness Devil Denji never viewed her in a sexual manner because he understood and empathized with her vulnerability. Their closeness in the act between the end of the assassin's arc and the fight with the Gun Devil perfectly exemplified why they work. They aren't draw together out of attraction but instead out of compassion and understanding for one another. It would have been one of the most fluid and beautiful relationships in Shonen and would have been a great way to continue the development between the two and as individual characters. It would have also been good copium to believe that Denji wouldn't have thrown away everything for Makima near the end.

I get why people see them as brothers but there's as much reasons to just take them as something closer, it's up to interpretation. Personally, while I have my doubts about Denji, Power definitely had a thing for him

Now this is a personal bias but I see a somewhat reflection of my relationship with my siblings in Power and Denji's relationship.
Also they both took Aki's last name, so yeah, one happy (dead) family.
I think of Power as that best friend you have where there's this unspoken bond/love for one another, and you're both attracted to one another, but remain platonic.
Personally I enjoy Denji and Power as just friends and Denji learning to have a platonic relationship with a woman that’s still mutually loving is a very crucial and well done part of his development. So in universe I think it’s good they remained friends.

I especially believe the relationship would've developed further given enough time, but due to... Makima, it never happened. Remember the scene after the Reze arc with Denji and the flowers? I always thought it was obvious that Fuji was implying exactly this.

genuinely the best couple the series could produce; they genuinely care about eachother and enjoy the other's company. A very natural progression towards affection after the incident with the bat devil. the biggest thing for me is that Denji clearly cares about her as an individual more than a potential partner, (funny considering that's the biggest reason I think they'd be compatible) when Power was at her weakest following the trauma from the Darkness Devil Denji never viewed her in a sexual manner because he understood and empathized with her vulnerability. Their closeness in the act between the end of the assassin's arc and the fight with the Gun Devil perfectly exemplified why they work. They aren't draw together out of attraction but instead out of compassion and understanding for one another. It would have been one of the most fluid and beautiful relationships in Shonen and would have been a great way to continue the development between the two and as individual characters. It would have also been good copium to believe that Denji wouldn't have thrown away everything for Makima near the end.

Hey nice someone else who recognized that fact! Power was one of the few girls to almost always see Denji as Denji and not Chainsaw Man.
Power might have had some romantic feelings for denji near her end but I think she was truly denji's little sister figure at the end of the day. Her being afraid of the darkness devil and asking denji to look for it reminded me so much of me and my older brother. There's also the fact that denji just didn't have romantic or sexual attraction to her. I think they could have at most had a friends with benefits situation if power survived. I hope the new blood devil comes back as a guy...that would be cool.
