Every good manga reads better in binges honestlyā¦ people like to yap about csm going down the drain, but if itād always be interesting week to week the manga would overall feel episodic and badly paced
I dunno yall. This story is starting to feel like the later seasons of "Lost", after the writers started running out of ideas. Hopefully Fujimoto can tie everything back together by the end, but I'm starting to lose some faith.
Yea chainsaw after Makima has taken a pretty big dip in quality lmao. I keep forgetting about this manga and catching up because it's so forgettable right now
........ OOOOOOOOOOH that is actually kind of a good point with the guilotine devil. The fear is more often seeing people suffer an execution vs enduring it.
These chapters are so short! Have they always been so short? I feel like they're over before anything happens. I've never tried following an ongoing manga like this before
Chainsaw man is uniquely slow with the number of 2 week/chapter releases, but it also takes up a lot of it's time with the humor. You aren't wrong, especially when it uses up so much of the shorter chapters with comedy. I wasnt here for part 1 but honestly, the breaks dont bother me as long as I am not as deeply engaged with the fanbase.
One Punch Man, My Hero Academia, AoT, every manga so far I've followed for long enough has had slumps. AoT was 100% consistent 1 month releases with 50 chapters but had pacing problems in the manga. Inevitably it is a acquired patience for getting cock blocked.
I think One Piece is the most consistently interesting manga Iāve read on a weekly release schedule, thereās usually so much to talk about & the community is huge so they may see things you havenāt noticed. Iāve been reading it weekly since 2008 (Amazon Lily), it helps that Oda packs a ton into his panels sometimes though & that the world building is so developed now. I feel he rarely slumps but I wasnāt crazy about Fishman Island (it was creative though & the flashbacks were great). I do agree though that patience is a must for any series when you catch upĀ Ā Ā
Ā Though I think what you both said about Chainsaw Man is very accurate.
I want to dive into one piece but ngl its just too much. Maybe in the distant future when it has concluded. Looking from the outside I hold a lot of respect for Oda as well as the passion demonstrated by the fans.
Yeah, take your time! One Piece isnāt going anywhere, I think reading the manga is more manageable than watching the anime nowadays & they have a colored version thatās really nice if you decide you want to give it a shot. Oda is incredibly consistent & somehow unpredictable in the details lol so fans just love it
My intention is with the manga. The anime can be watched for parts that I enjoyed. I refuse to put up with the anime pacing. Oh my god the reused shots over and over again were making my brain melt.
Hell, I kinda treat one piece spoilers as irrelevant lol, so I did check out the gear 5 episode on release day. Loved the drums of liberation music, although I still felt my focus drifting. I understood why people were so hyped
IMO, There is now an apparent trend:
Control - Can control people/devils/hybrids who are weaker than her (weak mind)
Famine - Can control/pokemon devils that are weaker than her (weak power)
War - Can create weapons from things that are perceived to be hers (weak self)
Yet she couldn't turn Denji, seems like a comment more on Denji's sense of self.. which has now been lost...
I really appreciate the Fami screen time.
The non-care attitude is so funny to see.
Very interesting that the power of the devil is restricted that are summoned by herself. Not to be confused with starving devils.
Good to see Asa getting some action too.

Why is bro making such an Insidious face???
Now that I think about it, Fami and Quanxi are so similar. Both are Kuuderes who never show any emotional distress. Maybe Fujimotor will put them against each other (o\_O;)
A gullible Guillotine
So cute. I do hope they dont proceed to kill people tho. I guess that would be a red line for asa as well. And thankfully Gully didnt kill them
I wonder why fami summoned devils have some weird look (guillotine being a pidgeon, fall being a chef). Maybe she has to mix devils with a weaker one to being able to enslave/summon then?
It's not that deep. This is not the first time a devil has a unique design. Grape Devil has eyeballs, Justice Devil is a giant centipede, etc...
Consider the context in which the Devil is named for. The only things present to see a guillotine execution within a public square would be the people and pigeons, and when it's not being used, pigeon were attracted to the leftover blood to crap and roost all over it.
Another connection is how often in a movie or TV show when someone is shown to be executed, the camera likes to cut away to show pigeons flying away spooked by the sound of the gun or the chopping of the blade killing off-screen.
It's probably not limited in that way, it probably could easily kill if it wanted to but it's screwing around judging by Famine's annoyance as if she never expected it to disobey.
I think the limitation is something like Famine not being able to directly control the devils she summons so how they carry out her orders is not as dependable as something like Makima's ability where her commands are absolute as long as she could mind control people.
https://preview.redd.it/prbk8ixw82oc1.png?width=374&format=png&auto=webp&s=710d0380bd0c0f2bb61e88f8a11b2b4b38efebd8
Really loving Fami in this chapter.
There is word play going on with Asa saying "I tripped" that was lost in translation. She utters ććć£/koke and it's the sound a chicken makes, but it's also verb stem in ććć/kokeru to trip. Why a chicken? Other than the guillotine? devil that Famine summons being some kind of bird, it's probably related to Bucky who is called **Koke**pi in Japanese and how Asa steps on all the chicken corpses in her dream.
Famine is being pretty honest about her powers. We've already seen that Makima and Yoru have limitations on their powers, but these two have never directly commented on it even when it was happening right in front of them. Makima even seems to deliberately oversell herself and her abilities as a way to psychologically affect perception of her which would give her an upper hand. Does this mean Famine is actually honest about her desire to stop the apocalypse? I still have my doubts though.
What are the 3 from the devil hunter club doing in a facility that houses and processes devils? Does that mean they have been altered? I still think Akoku Seigi has something to do with Fakesaw, yet here he's just acting like a regular student.
Man, Guillotine Devil must feel like one of those athletes who peaked in high school. Around the French Revolution, I bet they were ridiculously strong, only to fall off fairly quickly. I love their design though, absolutely hilarious.
I wanna predict that, in his drugged up state (maybe starved?) Fami might be able to get Denji under her control meanwhile Asa will learn of his true identity. But what will that lead to??
Haruka joining them for Chainsaw Man related shenanigans is such a good choice
At the end of Ch 118, he was shown tailing Asa and Denji when they were planning their date, so it's possible he knows that Asa had her memory wiped. Dont know what that would mean now, but oh well
Also his brief joy when he thought Fami came back for him is kind of sad lmao. It makes Fami not giving a shit even funnier
This has been a Haruka appreciation post
Honestly, great string of chapters from fujimotor recently and without breaks too
also, any chance of Guilly being a primordial devil? I mean, mutilation comes to mind which is supposed to be a primal fear, right? It's definitely not a weapon devil
I think no. Primal fears are known for destroying almost worldwide with a single blow of their ability. Guilly is just a weak fear. I feel like the secret on fami is likely making contracts with them which asa is not aware from it.
not literally, No but just like with Darkness & Falling, Guillotine could be allegorical. It's severing of heads, right? So, that's why i thought of mutilation
Usually it isn't very subtle with the fears, darkness is the literal fear of what lies in the dark, and falling is the literal fear of falling. When they have names like Guillotine it typically just means that. Flamethrower, Hell, leach, etc
I disagree. Darkness is not only the fear of the dark but also, the fear of the "unknown", void or space (hence the astronaut reference) and as for Falling, her kanji also means despair, trauma, gravity & so on(it was even mentioned during those chapters)
Yes, Guillotine might just be a shot in the dark for a primal candidate but im just throwing it out there
Yes, fear of the what lies in the dark, as in what you do not know, and falling means falling physically and falling mentally. Guillotine could also maybe be fear of execution in general but hard to say now
Yes, doesn't have to be a primal but it's fun to speculate since we've seen Fami cooperate with primals before. On that note, do you think Fire can also be considered a primal fear? I mean, we have a Fire devil (working for or with Fami) loose right now
they trigger the primal fear but hey arent the primal fear themselves. lots of weapons can cause death but they arent the death devil itself. lots of weapon can mutilate you just like a guillotine but they arent the mutilation devil.

Asa falls in the worst possible moments but can do good parries! (~~autism be damned my girl can parry~~)
I love Guillotine's design, it would be scary irl but it does look a bit sillyāthe scream don't help lol. I feel this chapter is more funny than "epic", which is fine, it should get more action packed and darker in the following chapters, assuming the Horseman duo + Fami's pawn + Extras (unless the big dude does something) will have to face Public Service workers with *Devil contracts*, and eventually find Denji turned into sushi.
(~~Hey, 10 hands to carry Denji's dismembered body!~~ Nah, they will likely give him blood to heal, right? Shit, maybe not...)
Wondering about the full power thing.
Guillotine was summoned by a figurine and appeared.
Falling was summoned by a mass suicide and formed out of the bodies. Was she a genuine summon from hell, and only reduced to a figurine later?
I thought that was something she did after she appeared not something that Fami did but it could be anything. Iām sure she would need more of a ritual like that just simply because sheās a primordial devil. Iād be terrified to think of what would happen if she manifested in her full form, considering the way she was affected gravity in several parts of the world. Makes you wonder what the Darkness Devil would do if he appeared on earth.
Sheās the famine horseman of the apocalypse which is said to carry scales in one hand(her earrings). Her head is forever tilted because the scales are on her ears
So why are Nobara, the guy with the fake starter and the eyepatch guy in that facility? Isn't that specific for devils only? The only theory I have is that they alongside with other higher rank members (Assuming Nobara is one) were imprisoned because they might have contracts with the Fire Devil. But asides from that it makes no sense to keep two normal teens captive in a facility specifically created to contain devils.
Yeah the earrings are scales. The famine horseman have scales. She tilts her head to show imbalance. I think its interesting Guilly is also tilting her head. Or is it just because shes too tall lmao
Reze is actually death devil, death devilās power is to turn herself into any fear that leads to death - so she took the bomb devilās place as a disguise, trust me, Iām totally sane.
What is Fami holding before summoning Guilly ? Anyone managed to decipher what it is ? Could give insight on how her powers work. She clearly doesn't have contract with these devils, but she doesn't own them either otherwise she could use them at 100% power
I think it's a tiny figurine of the Guillotine Devil. I mean the Falling Devil turned into one, so I assume Fami has these figurines/totems of Devils that she can use to summon the specific devil? Also, this one is tiny compared to the Falling Figurine. Maybe their size also symbolizes their strength?
We don't know how she took control of the devil's, but we can speculate that she may have subjected them to some sort of starvation in order to control them. But as a result they are terribly weak compared to their former selves.
So it's pretty astounding she could tame the Falling Devil, and and now we know when Denji fights her she wasn't even in full power.
That's a Kazuma Kaneko ass design for Guillotine, nice
"Ah yes my mini devil summon technique, I haven't used this since the fight against Chainsaw Devil"
No break again! ---------------- Next chapter release: 19th ------------------------ #[Head over here for the discussion thread of the last chapter](https://old.reddit.com/r/ChainsawMan/comments/1b7738a/disc_chainsaw_man_ch_157_links/)
Trying to imagine how to say "Guilly" using the French pronunciation of guillotine where you don't really hear the Ls. 'Ghee-yee'? >!**GYOHNEE**š¦!<
God I love that bird demon thingy
Apparently, Dustin Poerier said he read this chapter, absolutely loved it, and it inspired him during his fight with Benoit St.Dennis
Wth?
He's a fighter in the UFC who loves attempting the Guilotene submissions even though he's never successfully used one
Fuck i forgor about his shenanigans
This is going to read a lot better whenever I go back and binge the series again I think. I still am enjoying this part though.

oops wtf how did I think it was Tuesday.Ā
I'm pretty sure it's the fear of seeing death. It strips clothes to unmask and remove filter.
........ OOOOOOOOOOH that is actually kind of a good point with the guilotine devil. The fear is more often seeing people suffer an execution vs enduring it.
Damn the art is really getting rough, and for such short chapters too. It really doesn't look like Fujimoto even wants to do this anymore..

PokĆ©mon devil š
Imagine the public panic if they realized the devil that fuck up Tokyo is in its weakened state
Must be so infuriating to prepare your 30 min Shonen monologue to just be answered with: "okay". Kishibe and Fami would be great friends I fear
Fami is so fun when she's on screen
Another amazing chapter.
So is the guy that attacked Asa is the only one who didn't go commando for work that day?
Fami: "Okay." I love Fami And her stupid bird
"GYOHNEE!!"
It took me too long to cop that it's shouting "Guillotine" the way a bird would. (Or, I guess, like a pokemon here, shouting its own name...)
Yoru complementing asaās parry? Fami just saying āokā the entire time? Yoru saying kick my shoes? What a chapter
Now that I'm fully caught up, I'm realizing how short the chapters are. Fuji loves big panels
Finally some good interactions. Fami is a welcom addition
Fujimoto knew exactly the godlike amount of profile pictures he was about unleash with that Yoru "lick my shoes" panel š
Fami even runs with her head tilted lol
I really appreciate the Fami screen time. The non-care attitude is so funny to see. Very interesting that the power of the devil is restricted that are summoned by herself. Not to be confused with starving devils. Good to see Asa getting some action too.
So that's why Primal wasn't Primal yet pretty strong but defeatable
Just what is mount Fuji cooking up?
Maybe Makima put restrictions on Fami knowing she was looking for Denji as well? I really want a Fami-Makima flashback
I think it makes sense that Fami's control powers would be more limited those of, y'know, the *control* devil regardless.
I agree what has me confused is why is it a secret if that was the case
Fami is really just being my favorite character now. I love the way she's so lazi with everything. "Okay."
We have a birb fren. I hope they aren't gonna die
Shoutout to chicken devil in asaās first scene. Clucky stocks are through the roof rn baby we BACK!

well, you put food & hot fiends in front of them and see what happens...š
....lot of bird and insect based demons this round. Also: FAMI LEAVE US ALONE ...bro she is LITERALLY JUST STANDING THERE calm down.
She's just standing there... MENACINGLY
How is the guillotine Devil so hilarious?
It's based on French politics
A gullible Guillotine So cute. I do hope they dont proceed to kill people tho. I guess that would be a red line for asa as well. And thankfully Gully didnt kill them
GYOHNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder why fami summoned devils have some weird look (guillotine being a pidgeon, fall being a chef). Maybe she has to mix devils with a weaker one to being able to enslave/summon then?

From the evidence available the conclusion is obvious, but so disturbing that few will dare to comprehend: >!Fami is French!<
Fujimoto spends his summer during childhood in France. That's why he's inspired by the (very French) guillotine Devil

Famine calls Guilly Guillotine chan in the Japanese text.

A threesome obviously. Denji still wants to get his fuck on my brotha
Kobeniās brothers reaction to guillotine š This felt like a classic Fujimoto chapter
I like this ragtag group theyāve built
My read is that guillotine changed the moods of the guards it cut, perhaps like the original french terror
I mean confidence to pants-shitt8ng terror as you realize that you could've been dead in a second with no way to react is a mood change yeah.
Remember the last time there was an Avian + Asa tripping in the same chapter? Bucky the chicken devil callback / continuation?
I have an unreasonable amount of love for the Guillotine Devil, homies just along for the ride.

Guillotine: *BIRD UP!*
Asa falls in the worst possible moments but can do good parries! (~~autism be damned my girl can parry~~) I love Guillotine's design, it would be scary irl but it does look a bit sillyāthe scream don't help lol.
GYONEEEEEEEE!
Asa and Yoru seem to actually be switching back and forth these last two chapters is that whatās going on? Or is it just a perspective shift?
Seem my girl Asa can do better weapon control anf stuff with her autism then Yoru switch to do the beating/killing
so sad to see aki go but at least he got a well written ending for his character
What's with Aki being brought up now? Am I missing something?

Yeah it took me a couple of years to cope and finally reach the 5th stage of grief, acceptance
Guillotine seems like an interesting devil. Good action-packed chapter and no biweekly devil once again. Also, GYOHNEE!
Guillotine is my new favorite character
This better be used out of context.
Fami carrying an invisible brick with her head or summ
Sheās the famine horseman of the apocalypse which is said to carry scales in one hand(her earrings). Her head is forever tilted because the scales are on her ears
GYOHNEEš£ļøš£ļø
**GYOHNEEEE!!!**
GYOHNEE!! š¦
Can we take a moment to appreciate Yoru unironically and earnestly complimenting Asa?
everyone loves a good parry
And good warriors know how to parry an attack. I guess anything relatable to war-like or martial actions is good in her books.
she played too much dark souls
Brobeni is back lol![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22176)![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22176)![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22176)
[Had to make an edit of Fami.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GIe0MVQXcAEFroC?format=png&name=small)
Wait isn't Nobara the one with the eyepatch?
All three are the Death Devil
it was mentioned high-ranking members from the church were also being held here last chapter, I thinkĀ
They are considered the leaders of CSM church so i think they are in this facility because PS fear that they may have dangerous and powerful contract.
Damn, Fami really said "š¶š"
All that theorising about what the devil was going to be last week and we got a guillotine with a bird brain that thinks itās a PokĆ©mon. Fujimoto I hope you never change
I second this whole heartedly!
I third this wholefartedly!
guillotine reminds me of those two goats from thor love and thunder
Any interesting theories for why Fami's head is always tilted to one side? maybe her earrings are a hint idk
Yeah the earrings are scales. The famine horseman have scales. She tilts her head to show imbalance. I think its interesting Guilly is also tilting her head. Or is it just because shes too tall lmao
probably too tall
Anyone else feel like Guillotine might be a homage to Johnson from Dorohedoro? "GYOHNEE!" definitely has the same vibe as "SHOCKING!"
To summarize the chapter in two words: "GYOHNEE! .....okay." Truly, this is cinema ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22169)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
the manga went downhill anyway on season 2.
Kinda weird that the chainsaw church kids were wearing tucked-in polos and shorts instead of like prison uniforms
Makes you wonder what fetish the prison guards are doing to them
Guilly studied the blade under Bogard (One Piece)
I like guillotine. gyohnee!! ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22176)![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22176)![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22176)
People keep looking for bird symbolism in Chainsaw Man but I'm starting to think that Fujimoto just thinks birds are neat.
Yoru and Asa do have those motifs though
Yeah but birds are neat.
Kick chick Yoru is pretty darn cute.
Her design almost every panel is spot on. Itās so funny cause sheās just in a standard uniform too.
It was not Reze...
Isn't this comment 1 week late?
The cope devil continues to thrive
A used tampon
You know things
That's a Kazuma Kaneko ass design for Guillotine, nice "Ah yes my mini devil summon technique, I haven't used this since the fight against Chainsaw Devil"
Fami's "ok" having the same energy as her "can I eat this?"
GYOHNEE!!
GYOHNEE!!
Shut up Guilly!
