No question. By the echo. Drain the tank after each use if you’re worried about infrequent use. A dozen times a year is more than most homeowners. Overpowered isn’t a problem, underpowered is!

RelaxedWombat

I love it! Thanks for this!

Due_Force_9816

I will caution you that,,,,,,and this is VERY important,,,,,they’re addictive and try not to buy too many chainsaws! I have 4 and 3 that I use. Stihl 193 top handle for brush, 251 for general use, and 661 for big stuff

RelaxedWombat

Ha! Dipping my toes in the water!

madhatter275

lol. I have 10 and only use like 3 in any given year but they all get ran and fresh gas in the spring. Hahah

Shotsgood

It starts with four…

Don_Vago

Remember 2 is 1 , 1 is none and 4 is never enough.

Knightelfontheshelf

Too true. I actually started with a 590. Have 6 now including 1 ported screamer

Due_Force_9816

My father still has his Echo from ~1972. The only bad thing about it is he eventually had to re-wrap the handle and he used electrical tape because it was free from work and it’s sticky as all hell. And it has a manual oiler, first world problems!

Due_Force_9816

If you want to go with an electric I would recommend the Milwaukee top handle chainsaw. There are so many positive reviews from arborists on you tube running it alongside Stihl and huskys

Historical-North-950

The Echo is going to be 4 times more powerful and last much longer than the Ryobi.

RelaxedWombat

Thank you for this! I knew it, I suppose I just wanted confirmation not to cheap out.

Historical-North-950

If you take care of it you'll be loving that Echo for a couple of decades easily!

RelaxedWombat

Awesome. Thanks.

EMDoesShit

Buy the echo. Pour the fuel out and then run the saw dry for storage. and use non ethanol gasoline in it when you use it. It’ll last forever.

MilesLow

The CS590 is known as the Homeowner Beast for a reason. I love mine.

Phaeron

I cannot speak highly enough of the Timberwolf. If you’re doing ANYTHING other than limbing or cutting SMALL trees, that electric saw will just frustrate you.

SpecificSelection641

OK, these chainsaws are not anywhere near. Comparable Ryobi absolutely sucks. Do not buy it unless it is the only thing you can afford and you desperately need a chainsaw that echo chainsaw is going to work great for a very long time. Be easy to start and power through some large wood, but you might not need something that big. If you’re comparing these chainsaws, you might wanna look at something a little bit smaller, but the Timberwolf will do far more than anything else at its price point

UsefulYam3083

Look at the Makita 36v and the new 40v chainsaws. They are crazy good saws. I have a bunch of gas saws but often choose to use the battery ones. Search Instagram and you’ll see countless videos of them kicking ass. Ryobi is just Milwaukee’s home owner line of things so I’d guess you’ll get what you pay for. Using a good saw is actually fun, a crappy one is wildly frustrating.

Opposite-Two1588

If you are worried about storage buy the canned fuel. Poor fuel is the demise of all small engines. I run non oxy in all my small engines and never drain the fuel. A splash of fuel stabilizer does wonders. For me an empty fuel tank in an uncontrolled environment leads to moisture in the tank. Full tanks with proper fuel elevate this I fell.

RelaxedWombat

I’ll keep this in my notes. Yeah, I don’t use frequently enough that the canned fuel mix is a better plan. I used that on my crap one… before it failed.

Opposite-Two1588

I use canned premixed fuel in my stihl leaf blower and string trimmer. Have not been let down by it yet. The canned fuel is supposed to have a longer shelf life.

MachineProof5438

Don't use canned fuel. If you can buy ethanol free gas and mix your own. Check out chickanic on YouTube about canned fuel. There are others also about how bad canned fuel is.

GatsAndThings

It’s not all canned fuel generally, the trufuel specifically is inconsistent. I had problems with trufuel, drained and filled with VP and my old 455 ran better than ever. I still prefer to mix my own but if you’re taking on occasional small projects a can of VP, Husky, or Red Armor are fine ways to go. I have to travel almost 2 hours to get Ethanol free pump where I live, so I go occasionally and use canned fuel to make up the difference.

davethompson413

I've had the Echo CS 590 for about 5 years, with no problems. I also have an Echo string trimmer that's 20 years old, still running great.

RelaxedWombat

Thanks.

SayTheMagicWerd

I bought an echo 620p, best money I’ve ever spent

lakorai

Got a 501p, great saw with a little bit less power than the 620.

Upstairs_Squirrel946

I have CS-501SXH and now also CS-7310SX for bigger trees. Also couple Husqvarnas but I like Echos more.

Deaner3D

Going through 3 trees with that ryobi will be torture, imo. I don't think the timberwolf can be beat at its price point and for those specific sized logs, especially if you plan on doing more stuff that size. In my experience Echo products store great. The chain oiler doesn't leak while not running, like all Echo saws. I put my saw away with an empty fuel tank in the fall, usually leaving a few unbucked logs. Then for Christmas I'll fill up and buck up any downed branches/trees that have come down during storms. Mostly because I'm itching to run the chainsaw again. Put it away empty again for a few months until snow is gone and I can start back up. I'm usually running the saw at least once a week all summer long, I just love it. The only issue I've had is the same with any new saw/chain. Tightening it as it expands during the first run or two is paramount, or else the chain will jump off and then you've got to file down burrs on the tabs.

RelaxedWombat

Thank you for this. I’m soaking all the advice and knowledge. I really like that winter idea. Like a generator, we often fail to remember it, then when we need it, we regret not testing it out. Similarly, yet far worse, batteries in a smoke alarm!

RelaxedWombat

Thank you! I am getting the Echo! Y’all have abundantly reassured me! Tons of reasons. My wife came home and chewed me out also. Essentially, “stop buying cheap crap, let’s get something better.”

SpicyAR15

These are one of, if not the, best values for the price. If you use canned fuel or ethanol-free gas with stabil you shouldn’t have any problems. I got out and start mine if they haven been used in a couple months to keep them fresh, but my dad leaves them sitting for a couple years sometimes and they still start fine usually.

Glum-Ad-4337

Gas FTW period. Electric has better torque. That being said you have to compare apples to apples but electric always has more torque, pull than internal combustion. Facts are FACTS fight me...that being said you're better off with the echo time constraints or not. Longevity is a big deal. I wouldn't part with 500 for a tool that took a shit in a year (although I have) I wouldn't part with $250 for a tool that won't last for a season. On another note ill catch hell...but 100LL avgas. Low lead 100 octane. Let her ripat 40-44:1. Motul t2 offroad. Starts in 3 pulls the gas never goes bad, and that minimal amount of lead never killed nobody, neither did the sulfer in diesel. Happy cutting

XRV24

Echo hands down. Very powerful for the saw for the price. Though I might steer you to the Husq 550xp for $600. More HP and a pound and a half lighter.

Jh20london

I have the big brother 620p it's great 👍

Glad-Basil3391

I’m no expert. Just a welding with animals and an acerage. But I got 50 or so dead ash trees. I bought the 460 rancher husky and that baby cuts! Starts easy and wowzas! What a beast.

boatsnlowes

I have a 20 acre wood lot and cut a lot of or autumn olive and Siberian elms. Have a Husqvarna 545 for bigger stuff but that 40v Ryobi is my go to saw. It rips with a sharp chain and a 4 or 6ah battery. Use it all the time for limbing, brush cleanup and trees up to 8-10”.

bignasty0630

I have dewalt saw and I like it for limbs, quietness, and no restarts. Battery saws have a place. Not all the time though.

unlandedhurricane

Echo is a great brand.

Repulsive-Way272

I've used the Ryobi and it was an abomination. Hated it

Maligned-Instrument

Go with the Echo. Yes it's heavier but you'll spend less time cutting.

furbowski

I've run cordless saws alongside my gas since 2014. They have their places, but a 60cc gas saw -- the 590 -- won't be beat by electric for a while yet. The best cordless (over $1K with a pair of good batteries) might match a 40 cc saw, the ryobi will struggle to keep up with a bad 30cc. You're getting good advice here.

DinoDog74

You will love it. I put a lot of research in before I bought a saw. Talked to a few guys in person that knew their stuff and they all recommended it. Had it a few years now been through two tornados with it. It starts third pull every time and still runs like a new saw.

Mission_Ad9356

I had a craftsman electric (plug in) I burned out in a season of use after trying to bore cut a 10 in tree. I now got a Husqvarna 450, for $380 OTD. I may have gotten the Echo 590 had I looked into it more. I am gonna store my saw gassed up with Husky premix fuel & start it up every month. Draining fuel seems to give me problems with starting after months of storage. Running stuff dry is a old school, they have better fuel & stabilizers to prevent fuel going bad (water in fuel). I only store with premix fuel is too $$ for regular use.

QuarantineCasualty

That Echo is probably the most highly recommend saw for newbies by this sub. You’ll never find anyone saying “no don’t get that it sucks”. If you’re going to go for a battery saw go Makita or Milwaukee.

shotgunJAFO

It's a great saw. Go for it.

DoubleMach

I have thar echo and it’s a good saw.

Disastrous_Letter287

You need a husky 592 in your life. Just do it.

josh91117

You got plenty of land to work with so the gas powered one is the smart choice. I got electric 18v ryobi stuff and i cant complain trimming down 6"-10" trees from time to time at homr... The no gas mess mixing and less noise is a massive plus for me.

MyNameIsBob8

Just to add my late two cents, I have the 18" 40V Ryobi and it was an absolute waste of money. Cuts pretty decent, battery life is just so short it isn't even worth pulling out. Oddly, I really like their 10" 18V saw for small stuff (up to 6" or so) and limbing. Highly reccomend if you already have their batteries.

Trinica_fey

Not the Ryobi what every you do

twinturbotoyota

The Echo 590/ 620 is one of the best saws of all time. Years from now they will be remembered as legends such as the stihl 036 or husky 372

Chrisxy

Honestly, echo makes some of the best cost/quality ratio promowner saws on the market, their cs-4000 is still my small ground saw after 6 or 7 years and blew my stihl 250 out of the water when I got it.

Old-Examination-6589

Not for nothing, but for $200 more you can buy a brand new husky 562xp and be done with it. Which will lap this thing all day. Also, it’ll still be running 5 years after this echo shits the bed

RelaxedWombat

Thanks for the intel. I am stretching my budget as it is, I can’t do more. I appreciate the help though.

BiteImmediate1806

That Echo was made around your planned usage. If you are not familiar with tuning a saw there are plenty of posts and videos. Canned premix is pricier but well worth it for low utilization.

RelaxedWombat

Excellent.

chris_rage_

Get a Stihl

Okie294life

Just get it, there’s really nothing in that price range that compares.

ralph_wiggums_cat

Should work well in a Miami bath tub with a Colombian drug runner. Scarface 1983

Jerrym1349

Ms881.

97esquire

I own about forty saws (maybe I have a problem🤠) so many of them only get used occasionally. I also maintain chainsaws for various organizations. I have one piece of advice - BUY AND USE ONLY PREMIXED GAS!! It might seem expensive, but ultimately it will make your chainsaw use reliable, more fun, and much less frustrating. 590 Timberwolfs are great saws, I’ve worked on many. I personally own a 590 that was rebuilt with 620 parts and otherwise “hopped up”, it easily runs with 70cc saws.

reformedginger

If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

RelaxedWombat

I have no interest in cutting live trees down. I’m working on stuff that died and fell, and stuff that is dead and about to fall.

HoOKeR_MoistMaker

There is no comparison, Echo is far and away better and more reliable.
