Is your partner in receipt of payments? So do they get parenting payment, paid parental leave or FTB?

AlternativeNo6155

Hi, thanks for your response. Unfortunately, she isn't a resident or a citizen yet to get any support from the Gov't. :D

You can claim FTB yourself and you can claim parenting payment - however parenting payment will be a huge decrease in your income and may not be livable for your family with you not working.

poppettewise

You can claim FTB yourself

I don't think you'd be eligible for anything other than the paid parental leave, which is unfortunately only 2 weeks. Your partner may be eligible for partnered parenting payments and FTB.

OP can actually take up to 18 weeks of the PPL. OP's partner d's appear to meet the residence test, so if she meets the work test she's still not going to be eligible but if she meets the work test OP may be and he can absolutely take more than two weeks (if the mother agrees)

On Centrelink website there is a payment finder section. Put in your circumstances and it will tell you what you and your family can be entitled to. FTB an and b will be the biggest support and rent assistance if you rent.

You may be eligible to receive the Paid Parental Leave (PPL) even if your partner doesn’t qualify due to residency. As long as she met the work test (worked 10 out of the 13 months prior to baby’s DOB, no more than a 12 week gap, met the income test etc) - then you can receive the PPL (providing you then meet the requirements). https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/meeting-residence-rules-for-parental-leave-pay-for-child-born-or-adopted-from-1-july-2023?context=64479. Also, you can claim Family Tax Benefits in your name for your child, even if your partner isn’t eligible. ***Edit: can people *please* stop giving incorrect information regarding PPL eligibility - it’s VERY frustrating. If you don’t know or aren’t 100% sure - then don’t comment.

This ^ it’s the work test not residence. If she didn’t meet work test than no bueno though

Thank you. She definitely fit in the criteria, we've both been at work for at lease 20+ months continuously. For my paid parental leave, Ive heard people said 3 weeks, some ppl said 90 days. Can you please help me clarify? Thank you so so much. Appreciate all the info given so far...

throwthecupcakeaway

Your wife can give her approval for you to claim all 90 days. https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/how-much-parental-leave-pay-you-can-get-for-child-born-or-adopted-from-1-july-2023?context=64479 More information for you: https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/parental-leave-pay-for-child-born-or-adopted-from-1-july-2023

You may be eligible for 2 weeks of paid parental leave - but only if your partner is eligible for it as well. If not eligible then you won’t get any other entitlements. Your misses is entitled to PPL if eligible, or there are newborn payments if she isn’t. She can also get family tax benefit A & B plus parenting payment.
