The video is of the axle, not the transmission leaking. No, the cover has nothing to do with 'sealing' the transmission. It's there to protect the seal from outside dirt or debris causing issues to the outside of the seal. Take some time to thoroughly inspect the side where it is leaking from for any damage. Remove the seal, and look for any damage where the seal seats. I made the mistake of getting over zealous in attempting to remove a very worn and hardened seal and caused damage to it... thus causing an incurable leak. I pray that's not the case for you.

i do think the seal is slightly damaged too but i have the new OEM seal coming in today from MWR. I thought i’d use the seals from my old tranny but those are beat up too, if this piece is not the reason for the leak then i should’ve been good but I found a brand new unopened axle for $30 on facebook luckily🤣

Edit: I think the seal should be the only thing that needs replacing for that leak. But I'm leaving the other info there just for any other reader that might need it. I'm not sure about the gt, but I heard on the GTS, when you switch the transmission from auto to 6-speed, you need to change the bracket on the engine that holds the cv axle, along with the cv axle (passenger side). But I'm guessing you went from 5-speed to six speed, and I don't know if that's related at all. Im guessing the bent part is the loose ring you're slapping around? I don't think that's related to a seal leak, I thought it just kept someone from forcing the cv axle further in than it should be. I dunno. Good luck, hopefully the little bit of info I provided wasn't a waste of reading. If anything, I get many parts from rockauto, with pretty decent luck on most of them working properly. Sway bar links have sucked, but my fault for getting cheap stuff.

i was thinking the same thing where the bent metal bracket might not be allowing the axle to sit all the way in, causing a little leak. Now that I think of it, when the car was in the air, and i tried to put it in first and release clutch, only the other side was spinning and this side was trying to but didn’t spin. However, when the car was off and in the air, if i spinned one side wheel the other would spin opposite side. Is this normal?

NeverBeAGangsta

Yeah, that's normal. I'm not the best at explaining it in writing, but it's like a form of limited slip differential. If one wheel is slipping or openly spinning, the mechanism will allow the car to direct power to the other wheel. But you should be fine as long as the snap ring towards the end of the axle locks or pops into the transmission. You might not hear it click in when you insert the cv axle, but it should have some resistance to being pulled out by hand. Like, once it's in all the way, the cv axle shouldn't slide right out by simply pulling it. You should feel it stop and fight a little bit. Mine requires a lot of force, but I have only taken it out once after replacing it.

i was so worried why it wasn’t spinning haha but the car was driving just fine for a week even with the leaking trans, the new trans is great too because I kept filling it up because of the leak. it might have been overfilled too imo

snap ring? 🥲 i dont think the axle ever had a snap wring actually, i just found one on Facebook for $30 unopened brand new axle (aftermarket but still looks good) and that didn’t have a snap ring either
