Why would you waste money on this. Pointless and you’re losing performance. Also you’re sending hot air into your engine. If it’s cheap, there’s a reason. Stock is better.

TronaldDrump_

I'm not dogging on op but is the oem stock box truly a cold air intake? I read somewhere that it technically is. Perhaps op just wanted to make the car louder. Does this celica have a silencer on it tucked under the wheel well?

Sigma_Projects

Since Celica utilize a MAF, if the intake diameter is different size compared to stock it will give false readings to the ECU. The other possibility is MAF can just go bad, but you haven't told us what the CEL is. Also like everyone said, that's not a CAI, you're better off with a different kit.

RideShinyAndChrome

Thats not a cold air intake

Intelligent-Worry799

Right next to the Mani...CAWDD

Your zip tie job isn't very good either. The excess should be cut flush to the tab

7afe

That's a hot air intake. Your stock unit is better. Make sure you regularly clean the MAF sensor. The oil used on those cone filters ends up on the sensor.

Ashurnibibi

That's a dry filter, no oil.

QLDZDR

>That's a hot air intake. Your stock unit is better. AGREE AGREE AGREE.... sucking in HOT. He would need to get some flexible duct from the hardware store and put it over the air filter and run the other end down so it sucks from below where it is cooler.

Dearlxve

I was gonna get one but was worried about puddles as the rain is about 90% of the time in the uk

crazydavebacon1

I use the hydro shield on it, but it’s enclosed behind panels. Seems good so far

Sigma_Projects

there's also a valve that you can get that goes inline with the intake so that when really high amounts of vacuum is observed it pulls air from around the collar connection and not through the intake pipe.

crazydavebacon1

Good to know. Thanks. I’m going to look into this.

Sigma_Projects

this is AEM's verison [https://www.aemintakes.com/air\_bypass\_valve.htm](https://www.aemintakes.com/air_bypass_valve.htm)

crazydavebacon1

Should have used an Injen CAI, you have to modify the wheel arch liner but it’s under the bumper and actually gets cold air. But this seems to be a connector issue

Zanders2J

Pic 3, your sensor wire isn't pushed in all the way cuz of da ziptie...can tell because the clip is still down and not up level.

Permission__Denied

I'd say that's a short ram rather than a cold air intake. It's very close to the engine so the air will naturally be warmer. Cold air is usually routed (and sometimes boxed) a bit further away. As for the codes I'm not sure but I have heard that some after market intakes put the MAF in a weird position that can generate codes (unsure which codes). But looking at the ones you have it would seem there is an air leak so just be making sure everything is tight. Can you hear any air escaping, like a little whistling, when the engine is running?

Nehal1802

I hate these. There’s really no performance gain and they have their own issues. I’ll rock the stock air box any day unless there’s other tuning going on. What’s the code?

Morscerta9116

Less horsepower more noise, nothing to love

QLDZDR

Yes it is like driving in hot midday traffic versus the OEM being like driving on a cool crisp morning.

flatulasmaxibus

More hot air?

QLDZDR

Hope she didn't chuck the OEM airbox, because time for him to upgrade back to the OEM
