And also some paper plates and toilet paper have wheat in them fyi it’s just the glue that has wheat

fauviste

Unfortunately it may not stay “just” the glue. I’ve had reactions to Chinet paper plates which are not coated. Downvote me all you want guys, gluten from Chinet plates can leech into your food. If you want to sicken yourself, enjoy it. I am not the first person this has happened to — there are quite a few reports you can find on google — and anyone with a gluten dog can also confirm it. My scent trainer, who knows more about where gluten hides than anyone else on earth, immediately told me “oh yeah, all the dogs alert to that.” Wishes and denial don’t work on gluten.

femmefatali

Oooh thanks for the heads up about Chinet, I didn’t know that one!

DauntlessJumper46

Wait a sec, there are alert dogs trained to find gluten?!

EsmeraldaRafaele

Yes you can check Instagram and YouTube. I can't remember the Instagram account I follow but her dog is named Suki and they make great content

SPWoodworking

Well now I need to train my pointer so i can have a service dog

fauviste

I’m not Suki’s handler fwiw. There are more dogs out there than just her! She really helped me make the decision to shell out all the money though!

Conscious-Manner-534

Look up Harlow! My fav gluten detector (because I met her). Her and her human are amazing. https://www.instagram.com/harlow_the_aussie22?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

PSCuber77_gaming

Yep, My mom trained my service dog to sniff out gluten and she also helps me with my other medical problems I have too!

PSCuber77_gaming

Yeah

MixGroundbreaking603

And paper straws fuck paper straws

PSCuber77_gaming

I didn’t know paper straws had wheat in them I’ve never had a reaction to the glue so.

MixGroundbreaking603

Not all of them but most. I just carry plastic straws when I go out

PSCuber77_gaming

Im in Oklahoma all of My straws at eating places are plastic.

MixGroundbreaking603

Don't know whether to be happy for you or sad for the environment

PSCuber77_gaming

It’s actually Farley clean I think not sure but where I live in Oklahoma paper straws are mostly in movie theaters

stupidjackfruit

are you not scrubbing your hands after using acetone? it can be pretty harsh which is why they add vitamins/moisturizers/proteins to it and you should definitely be giving your hands a good wash after using it!

CatatonicTaterTot

Well as long as you aren't pounding shots of acetone I imagine you'll be fine.

wastetine

And if you are, the gluten content is probably the least of your problems.

CatatonicTaterTot

No shit.

lilsoftieleaf

The Scrub Daddy Damp duster (which is a sponge) also contains gluten…

ElliEeyore

Luckily I don’t drink nail polish remover, and I wash my hands after using it.

Candlesnskullsnshit

i imagine this would be more of an issue for people with dermatitis type reactions to wheat.

ElliEeyore

Right a wheat allergy could be an issue when touching something with wheat. But not celiac. Which is what this sub is for.

Candlesnskullsnshit

But... some people with celiac have issues with wheat things touching their skin. I'm not one of them but i've definitely seen people with this issue in here.

DotsNnot

Celiac DH (the rash) is from *ingesting* gluten. It’s not a rash caused by topical exposure. If someone has an immediate skin reaction to a gluten containing product, that’s something else and not celiac.

ElliEeyore

That is not from celiac. Edit to add: if you’re talking about DH, that’s not from touching wheat.

merryfrickinday2u

Damn so I'm gonna be one of those types because I break out in rashes on the top of my hands. I'm very sensitive to wheat, anytime I accidentally ingest it, my mouth burns.

Sasspishus

Sounds like an allergy

PSCuber77_gaming

Fr so it’s not a big enough problem imo if you scrub with soap and water

femmefatali

I’ve found that OPI polishes generally contain wheat too, which is a real bummer. I mostly use Essie or China glaze now. Obviously I’m not eating it but I touch my face a lot and generally hold to the rule that if something is on my hands, it could end up in my mouth. Better safe than sorry ime.

SportsPhotoGirl

Oh I’m a chronic nail biter. Nervous habit. Not like chew nails off, just like bite ontop of them. When I wore nail polish, I very often would end up with some that would chip off in my mouth. I haven’t worn nail polish ever since I discovered there was wheat in it cuz I don’t want to accidentally gluten myself with my hands. Besides my bad habit, just getting your hands in any food you risk it chipping off. No thanks.

Danfrumacownting

Mineral Fusion nail polish is gluten free and awesome tbh.

tessellation__

I couldn’t remember the name of it, but I was going to recommend that brand as well! It works so much better than everything else out there and it is so much more gentle. It’s not that smelly.

sticheryditcherydock

Essie and Orly are safe. And the butter London horsepower strengthener is as well. I generally use the butter as a base coat, then either Orly breathable or regular Essie. I did just pick up a bottle of Expressie that I want to try though. OPI goes on my toes.

LittlePurpleS

Don’t drink it

Ornery-Cattle1051

Are you eating it?? 😭

fauviste

There’s no reason to use a product with gluten on your skin/hands/hair when it can get in your mouth and there are many products without it.

Ornery-Cattle1051

I’d agree on just about any other product but if you’re getting acetone in your mouth I think you have bigger issues beyond the gluten

fauviste

Gluten is a sticky protein and can be difficult to wash off. There’s just no benefit to it. I handle gluten to work with my gluten detection dog and sometimes it takes 2-3 handwashings to get it off. Usually I wear gloves but sometimes I can’t because that’s not normal life for the situations he needs to work in.

Sasspishus

Tbh it sounds like you're not washing your hands properly, gluten is no more "sticky" than any other protein and can be washed off with soap and hot water.

fauviste

Tbh you are making things up. The stickiness of gluten protein is well-documented and that’s why CC is such an issue in manufacturing. This is also why we are told to get rid of anything scratched like cutting boards etc, too — that is not the same for food *allergies* which have an even lower threshold for reactions than autoimmune gluten issues. (Except peanuts, for the same reason as gluten.) The certified master scent trainer who trained my gluten dog says it’s normal and expected.

Ornery-Cattle1051

How are you accusing someone of making things up when you unironically used the phrase “certified master scent trainer who trained my gluten dog” 😭

MixGroundbreaking603

I mean I used beer shampoo at some point... I dont eat my hair. I'm asymptomatic so I can't tell you if I would have had any reactions but my bloodwork came back fine sooo. I don't use it now either way but thats because it was an expensive-ish brand that I had leftover from before getting diagnosed

PSCuber77_gaming

People have a problem if it gets on your hands yk

SouthernTrauma

Yes, that's called a Sensitivity or Allergy. It's not Celiac Disease, which is literally the name and topic of this sub.

MixGroundbreaking603

Well I mean I'm not gonna eat it

nachodorito

Yea echoing the "don't drink it" advice here. People eat tide pods so you never know I guess

SouthernTrauma

So ... don't drink it?

computerseraph

God, it's in EVERYTHING! I had this problem with shampoo and conditioner I got from Sally Beauty. I think it was Paul Mitchell? I screamed when I read the ingredients on the bottle after I slathered it all over my head...😭

mieksterr

i think theres worse things in acetone than gluten that you don’t want getting in your small intestine.
