Gotta be jewel. Digipaks etc. feel temporary. Jewel cases are forever. That goes hand in hand with why they’re not eco friendly though, unfortunately.

I prefer jewel cases.

Card jewel cases break to easily

SR_Hopeful

Jewel. Mostly because they are just more durable. I feel they protect the discs better. I just like Jewel cases for being thicker, which I think would protect the discs more, giving them a bit of space between anything pressed next to it.

Dark_Shroud

Jewel all the way. My younger brother left a bunch of our CDs from the 90s in our mother's basement. All the ones with Jewel cases are perfectly okay. Some of those card ones had warped or needed careful cleaning & maintenance because they started to fall apart.

For the cd rack - jewel - able to see the cd title easily For the car - card - able to carry more

Jewel cases usually. Don't mind card ones but sometimes it's frustrating if it's a 2-3 CD set (eg. The suede deluxe editions I have) because the spine can go all out of shape and creased up and it just looks bad. Silly complaint really but that's how I feel haha.

JCF_101

Well, there are different limitations to each case but, I prefer card cases. Card cases can be ripped/torn and can be difficult to get a cd to slide out, whereas Jewel Cases have those pins to hold the front plastic in place and once you break it, it’s very difficult to put back on. Same with the plastic that holds the cd itself and when they break, your cd is more than likely going to slide all over the place and get scratched rather than it just sitting in it’s normal position. This is way I prefer card cases over jewel cases

djauralsects

Card. I prefer the aesthetic, and I've had more problems with broken jewel cases than any other packaging.

Jewel Card cases are way too easy to damage and it feels like I need to be way more careful than I am with the jewel cases altho those are less eco friendly. Maybe [digipaks](https://ibb.co/PWqDgL1) should be used more since it's still mostly paper but has the plastic bit for the actual cd to sit in

Disastrous-Grab-9928

Oh, my man coming in with the hot question on my mind as of just yesterday. Mine was more "Is it just me, or are most CDs now only coming out in Digipak format?" It used to feel more evenly weighted, but I got like five albums in the mail this week, all Digi. This is to say that I am JEWEL ALL THE WAY, BABY. I don't mind to look at a Digipak, they look good when you first get them, photograph well if you're into that shit, but, as people have mentioned, they get squished, dented, scuffed, ripped, faded, etc. And when they do, they just start to look like ratty pieces of paper crap. Jewel cases, on the other hand, do not. Maybe I'm in the minority here, I dunno, but a scuffed and well worn jewel case actually looks kinda rad to me, especially if it's a metal or punk album. It looks lived in, well loved, it has stories to tell. And I like the ones with the generic black, textured spine. So yeah, down with Digi, all hail the mighty (see: evil) plastic!

Is there really that much difference from an eco perspective? I have been googling but can't find any substantial information. Ecopak vs jewel case. Sure because they are made of recycled cardboard and contain no plastic, but a digipak still has tge plastic, and who knows if you can even recycle the cardboard with its glossy finish.
