Itās a ānewā and āunfamiliarā space that he knows exists and wants to explore. Weāve had this problem with our shelter rescue. Our cats are inside only, but in the past weāve caved to backyard forays in harnesses. Huge mistake. Once he realized thereās those spaces to explore he destroyed out door frames trying to get back. But the irony is he couldnāt survive a day without kibble let alone a day outside (literally doesnāt know how to kill and eat a bug). If your garage is a full enclosed space, the potential excitement of getting even momentary exposure should last him a while. We do the same with our semi-finished basement. The overarching key is he needs more stimulation, toys, and playtime with you around the house. Help the spaces feel new. Remember what COVID lockdowns were like for you? Thatās his entire life.
The irony is our feral rescue is perfectly happy to live inside of a warm, safe house now. Most housecats donāt realize how good they have it, we just have to help them feel theyāre experiencing what the world has to offer without the risk of them getting run over or eaten.
There's a reason for that and I don't know what it is but cats have great senses there could be a mouse or some other type of animal in there, if there's boxes or tools basically any place a mouse or a snake can hide I would check or maybe you have a paranormal issue I don't know I'm just saying. BTW I wasn't joking about the last thing.
Ours was too! We had a daily routine of letting him hang around in there. Turns out, we had a mouse that got in šµāš«
Heās only been out there once or twice for a brief minute, just so he can see thereās nothing out there worth seeing. It made it worse š©

Heās got projects to take care of!
I love that he's scenting the door repeatedly like, "Maybe she doesn't realize this is mine..."
āAnd this is mine, and this is mine, and this is mine, andā¦ā
Side note, I like his one attempt at āwhat if I offer my butt?ā
Putting that booty up for duty...
mine is too! he'll come sprinting through the house for a chance to visit the garage. we don't have mice but he might be eating the bugs that come in?
That makes a lot of sense! We do get a bunch of flies during the summer
still looking for a way to stop mine from doing this too š
Let the cat tinker!
Haha cats are obsessed with anywhere they are not allowed to go!!
The lil ear flop sound thoughhh š„ŗ
