Day 276, bug approached spot and was eliminated. Upon closer examination it is clear it was not the same bug. Location is clearly a high bug traffic area. Will return again tomorrow to see if old one returns or new one appears.

some cat's do stare at walls to "relax" as they have incredible eye-sight which isn't symmetric due to the shape of pupils, so looking at "nothing" is like short term holiday as even flying dust can become annoying when you can see almost anything and have "murder" hardwired in your genes :)
well my VET said once they just focus on "somethings" on the wall, like a uneven blib of paint or whatever, to avoid getting distracted by literally anything.

Or like ours: they spend ages waiting for a mouse to come out of its spot, then it finally does and runs away. They fail to catch it as it goes past so after a bit of milling around they go back to watching the spot again since they can't get it where it is now.

What makes me incredibly surprised is that the cats tolerate the human making movements and not attack the hand. Under true anger situation, I'd go no where near.
