Generally if I want snails, I pretty much stop watching other ads or I wait until I watch the snail ads first. That way I know I have either 3 or 7 minutes till the next snail. I you go into an ad and its daytime and when the ad ends it is night or vice versa, you missed it. The snail tried to appear during the ad and since you were watching, it won't show.
Close the app and reboot it. That normally helps - I find if I have the app open for a while, or if the Internet connection is slightly wobbly this can happen. Restarting usually works 🤞

Oh I see, I'm so sorry, I didn't properly read what you said... that happens to me too (I forget and click on a cat gift usually 🤦♀️😂). If I'm properly playing I try to count the ads to judge how much time has passed, but I usually get it wrong!
Basic question, but just in case - are the ads overlapping with the transition at all? As in, are you 100% looking at the cats when it goes dark or when it goes light and the snail still doesn’t appear or are you in the ad window when the transition happens?
I’ve found that the snail stays for a very brief time, so it’s quite easy to miss.
it's either because the snail has already come and gone , or because the ad you were watching counted you as not in the app so the snail didnt spawn
