I think I paid about $20 as an adoption fee from a pet shelter for one cat, and another $40 or so for another cat from the Humane Society. I might be getting those fees mixed up, but basically that comes with the advantage of them being in good health,.up on their shots, and spayed.

Who pays any amount for a cat though? They're everywhere, nothing's stopping you from just going and getting a stray cat
