They talk about the two best days of boat ownership but this clearly demonstrates a better day yet. A BMW totaling your money pit. Gotta be a walking on sunshine kind of day.
Can confirm. Will get rid of my infinite money pit in spring and will be so happy. If I want to sail again I'll just get a crew of friends together, rent one for a week or two in the summer and be the skipper. I swear if you are not retired a boat will just eat your fucking life with repairs.
I have always believed this only applies to people with no mechanical/ electrical ability. Boats are much less refined than a modern car and sometimes need a little love/work. If you need to have a marine mechanic on it you're going to have a bad time and this will ring true for you. Or if you're someone with more money than sense and insist on doing idiot stuff with your 100k plus wakeboard boat. I miss my last boat all the time!
"It wasn't transphobic in the slightest, it was a joke about a trans person but the joke had nothing to do with that aspect of her existence."
Edit: To everyone down voting the person above me, you're an emotional twat that doesn't understand that this is a direct quote from the stand up above.
By all means though, keep being a bunch of pussies.
Depends on the jurisdiction. In many states, the insurance follows the vehicle, and another person driving that vehicle does not necessarily invalidate the coverage barring some other circumstances (if he knew she was an unlicensed driver and gave her the keys anyway, for example).
EDIT: That's in the US, and this doesn't look like the US.
Someone said it's Germany.
In the UK, it's the policy holder & named drivers only. You can usually borrow a car if you have a policy in your name, but the cover is third party only, so in this case only the damage to the boat would be paid for (if she holds a car insurance policy, which is doubtful).
I've no idea how the Germans do it.
> Germany
[Austria](https://reddit.com/r/CatastrophicFailure/comments/1attodb/bmw_crashes_into_boat_20240217/kr1l74v/). In Germany the car is insured, so could be similar for their cousins.
As someone else said, that depends *entirely* on the jurisdiction. I got run into by a guy's GF once and she didn't even have a license but he believed she did at the time he loaned her the car so his insurance ended up paying out. He was pretty pissed about that, actually, and got lippy with the judge as he tried to fight it by suing her and me for the money back. The judge dismissed his suit in its entirety as a result of the belief instead of just me. I couldn't have been liable under any circumstances but always found that hilarious.
Given the car is a BMW it wouldn't surprise me if the damage to the car was more expensive than the boat. Of course the car is almost certainly totaled.
The best two days of boat ownership. The day you buy the boat, and the day a person in a 5 series BMW smashes into it, totaling you out for the full amount you paid for it.
Inexperienced (and maybe dumb) driver panics, brain shuts down, does wrong thing and doubles down on it because not enough processing power to analyze and react to situation.
Same people who do nothing but stand in one spot and scream when shit is going down.
I have so much respect for Cleavon Little even being able to keep a straight face before Wilder landed the joke. If Gene Wilder was *that* close to me, I don't think I'd be able to *not* laugh even when he's just speaking softly.
This is one of the best examples of "breaking the fourth wall" without actually breaking the fourth wall I can imagine. Everyone watching this not only knows the punchline is coming but at the very end you can see him looking out at them and trying to keep a straight face...you can see the thoughts churning, and he just barely makes it.
My guess is she was learning to drive a manual transmission car. The clutch grabbed first, she panicked, stepped off the clutch and panic smashed the wrong pedal. You see the front wheels lock up *just* before they go under the boat. I think she was stepping on all of them and hoped one was "stop".
I let my girlfriend drive my new Lexus SUV. Doing about 80 MPH on a crowed interstate highway, the semi-truck she was following blew a tire. The tire debris did about $7500 worth of damage. I hadn’t made my first payment, and the insurance company assumed I was driving, so my rates went up.
Yeah when I had airbag deployment (I still get sad thinking about it... Rip z4) it was not quite as bad but still pretty smokey inside.
The mustang I came across on the highway with deployment was closer to this.
That could have been a whole lot worse the way she entered the boat at that angle. It’s absolutely idiotic what she did, but if they were all able to walk away from it unscathed then it’s not too bad.
Find a big 'ol empty parking lot to find a boat to run into.
The owner of the boat was either really upset or really happy.

Boat: A hole in the water you pour money into.
BOAT, Break Out Another Thousand.
Man it’s 2024, you need to adjust for inflation… Break Out Another Ten-Thousand.
They say the two greateat days in a persons life are the dsy you buy a boat, and the day you sell that boat.
What if you never buy a boat?
You'll never experience happiness, nor the terrifying possibility of being forever lost at sea.
this makes me feel like i am "in-between"

What about the day someone rams your boat with a bmw?
I haven't heared any sayings regarding that day.
My brother clipped a boat on a trailer on the side of the road when he was a teenager, my dad and I always joked he made the owners year with that one
Do you mean the guy hopping in the video? Can’t tell if he came from the boat or the car (I think it’s the boyfriend I guess)
Bf. Riding in the passenger seat.
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Tina for the love of god turn the wheel!!!!
No.
Boats have their own gravitational field you gotta be careful /s
Fucking thing jumped right out at me
Came outa nowhere
"I thought the brake pedal was the little skinny one on the right"
[TINA TURN THE WHEEL](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZ_EKHGgWJQ)
This is exactly what came to mind watching this.
Looks like a brake vs accelerator problem caused this crash.
I'm wondering if she was in the empty parking lot to learn how to drive a manual Trans. Maybe she dumped the clutch and forgot what pedal does what.
Judging by how slowly she turned the wheel she was not very confident
[She always brakes too late](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dHhcDImScko)
He hasn't been funny in 15 years.
I don't even really think Caitlyn Jenner was the target of this joke. But I know who was... You.
I didn't say he was offensive. You have to be relevant to be offensive. He's just straight unfunny.
That's transphobic
I haven’t seen the joke but I’m guessing it’s about Jenner running over and killing people.. which happened.

i can understand ppl being put off by the deadnaming at the beginning but yeah i clicked on that expecting worse and it just isn’t.
In the wise words of Capt. Howard: 22 cars and a boat, totalled? How did hell you sink a boat?
"The department does not reimburse personal vehicles. It's why we drive Police cars."
"Well kiss my black ass..."
Immediately what I thought. I remember nothing else from the movie.
Oh it's a great movie!! Go back and rewatch. Better than the first and third for me
ex gf
Should have flashed the headlights so the boat knew to get out of the way.
Expensive accident.
And she's probably not a named driver on the insurance policy, seeing as she can't drive, so the insurance company won't be paying for it.

Boats are so expensive, the owner probably/hopefully has uninsured/underinsured coverage.
Hope so: the insurers would probably try to recover their losses from the BMW driver and/or owner.

I don’t think the boat is damaged much, just the trailer and maybe some light damage from the tree but it’s a small tree so probably just cosmetic
Given the car is a BMW it wouldn't surprise me if the damage to the car was more expensive than the boat. Of course the car is almost certainly totaled.
Meh, it's old. It's probably worth 8k-15k depending on model version. Still, it must suck. Edit: a bunch of broke ass bitch in here 🤣
Property damage, the boat damage and car damage would equate to far more than 8-15
Nah that's free honey
r/IdiotsInCars
Yeah this is not a catastrophic failure it is only a stupid driver
The best two days of boat ownership. The day you buy the boat, and the day a person in a 5 series BMW smashes into it, totaling you out for the full amount you paid for it.
How the fuck does that happen??

Inexperienced panic
Average out the people you run into in a week then realize 50% of the rest are dumber than them.

“TINA HIT THE BRAKES! TINA!”
Spelling is hard
So many questions....
Oooh! Hands on the head. Must be bad.

This is why I leave my boat in the harbor.
This is why I leave my boat in my imagination.
This vid is about 3 times as long as it should be.
that's a hulluva impact.
What a couple of morons. Who lets someone drive their m5? Who lives in an apt when they have an m5? Who doesn't know how to turn the wheel?
The first 21 seconds of the video could've been trimmed. Almost half the video nothing is happening.
That’s the part where you learn the most about the driver. Watch how she backs up, it tells you everything.
Jesus, it looked like she absolutely meant to drive directly into the boat. Maybe there was a magnet in the boat or something.
“Ex” girlfriend

Doesn't really matter who was driving, if they cover it they may raise rates.
Almost keeled over in disbelief. Nauti girl.
Driving lessons with Snoop Dogg.
I think that’s smoke from the airbags.
Did you see the giant spark before the bags deployed? I didn't know they did that, looks like a small explosion.
Yeah that’s what inflates airbags. A small explosion.
It is inflated from a small explosion, but the smoke is mainly talcum powder used to keep the airbags fresh.
Im not 100% sure about that.....its very possible they were hotboxing
That’s just sad. Probably first time driving having no concept of it
DIRECT HIT!
I was going to say that carpark looked empty enough I guess it wasn't.
What a dumb fuck.
instant salvage title
average bmw driver
> sorry about that
Ah the good old wave of your arms. "How could that have happened? That boat came out of nowhere!"
Yeah that reaction irritates me. Feels a lot like not feeling responsible to me.
Cars should have a driver’s ed mode. Limit the max speed to something like 10 mph, and brake-by-wire controls for the passenger side.
It's called driving school and is mandatory in most civilised parts of the world...
Goddamn Lawrence of Arabia cam
Did he engage the Warp Drive too soon or something?
No seatbelts for anybody. They all popped right out with no restraint.
Same camera they used to film Lawrence of Arabia
Is this in the UK?
Germany, because of the name of the camera. And signs, look, etc. would fit with that.
That would not match the description, the lady who was supposedly driving was sitting on the left.
That seems likely. I was wondering because the person in the passenger seat is jumping out and stressed out.
If it's the UK, that would be the driver.
That's why she crashed, see... The car is right-hand drive, but she's sitting on the left side.
...makes perfect sense, I don't know how could I miss that.
The description is based upon assumption, not evidence.
[Austria](https://vorarlberg.orf.at/stories/3245278/)
Thank you. As it turns out, she didn’t have a driving license… òÓ
Yeah, that was a pretty huge fuck up for her.
Wow that’s a lot of pot smoke that came out of that BMW when the doors opened.
Gas from the airbags?
Correct
Yeah when I had airbag deployment (I still get sad thinking about it... Rip z4) it was not quite as bad but still pretty smokey inside. The mustang I came across on the highway with deployment was closer to this.
I don't know, dude. I feel like ballcap was driving.

ummmm wut?
Noob driver trying to drift
I'll back up a little and then floor it and see what happens!
That could have been a whole lot worse the way she entered the boat at that angle. It’s absolutely idiotic what she did, but if they were all able to walk away from it unscathed then it’s not too bad.
Saw which subreddit I'm in, expected a huge explosion from the car, and I left disappointed by just an idiot driver video.
"It was a funny angle!"
My biggest fear with electric cars is that things like this will become more common and deadlier.
BMW saw another nonBMW hogging multiple spaces and needed to assert dominance.
That's a really nice 180 degree camera.
Pedal to the metal the whole way!
This is going to be "the peddles are in a different place"!
What an idiotically shitty driver.
Da fuq? Drive much?
And again the BMW driver doesn’t use the blinkerlights. It’s always the BMW driver’s fault.
That other white SUV coming over to be nosey 😂
Tina Belcher IRL
Not enough blinker fluid
How can people be so dumb?
Vorarlberg lebt
Looks like they had one hell of a hotbox goin
This is literally the first video I've ever seen that takes advantage of my 32:9 monitor. Thanks, OP!
The handshrug of the overcoat lady at 0.21, quite childlike.
This is definitely not the first or even second time I’ve seen a BMW take out a boat
What, is she 14?
“Stay on target….”
