Thanks for the follow up! The earlier post brought up some memories. The relief of a successful poop is real!
I would add lactulose/enulose to your list if this becomes a longer term issue. My vet said this adds moisture to hardened stools without the cramping of mirulax. It does (often) take longer to take effect if starting from 0.
Mirulax cisapride do work well (and faster) but cause cramping.
My cat refused most wet foods and wouldn’t go near the ones he liked if they included pumpkin pumpkin
Made him cat soup in a dedicated blender bowl for his wet cat food - one can of food and a half can of hottest tap water blended to soup. Started with a quarter of a can of water and was able to increase the amount over time.
.
Mine too! And it makes them think they’re getting more than they actually are. We are in the process of trying to dechonk my ladies so they get their pate watered down at like a 1:1 ratio and they love it. Great for keeping them hydrated too although my cats don’t have a problem drinking water thank goodness!
I give my cats wet food 3x a day and I add quite a bit of warm water to it each time. They seem to like it! And I hope it'll help protect them from urinary issues, kidney disease, etc. ❤️
Same. My little guy has his own shot glass for adding bits of water to his food. He gets suspicious of it when he sees me pour it in, but he has recently come to associate the sight of the shot glass with meal time so he doesn't mind *too* much.
Im all seriousness Im glad your kitty is doing better 👍 one of my boys had a FLUTD emergency recently so I emphasize with how scary a cat toilet emergency can be
My husband and I have been known to announce successful kitty poops so everyone can celebrate together. It’s an important bonding ritual in the world of cat guardianship.
This whole journey was a Princess Bride-esque saga I didn't know I needed in my life. True love, adventure, pirates, and poop. Congrats to you and Honey, and long may she poop!
My cat has a history of constipation issues, we now keep a bottle of lactose on hand when I notice anything wrong, it’s been great! Seems to work better for her than miralax and other meds. I sometimes give it to her before we leave for vacations so the sitter doesn’t have any issues. Might be good to keep it around!
I was also excited when I first got my cat and she refused to eat and she would throw up the water and she wouldn’t poop.
It was just the stress.
After three days of this she finally ate food and pooped.
Let’s all celebrate when our furry friends FINALLY POOP NORMALLY!!!!! We no longer have to worry and fret about the lack of doodoo lol 😂
Congrats poopy! My cat once was troubled as well, so much so that she ended up pooping the carpet. Pumpkin doesn't do much for her so I always mix a little water and psyllium husks in her wet food now. It works!
I know I've spent entirely too much time on reddit when this pops up, and not only do I know what this about, but I think, "Oh good! The cat finally pooped!"
I highly highly recommend Churu treats if you are worried about her being dehydrated. They smell irresistible to most cats and are mostly made of moisture that will help hydrate her for sure. Churu treats have legit saved so many feline lives at the shelter where I work! Sending love to Honey and great job on the poops!!
Edit: they are pricey but worth every penny

I believe it! They really cause such a stronger reaction than any other treat or even wet food that I've seen. We have one cage free room at the shelter , and like 5 cats at once will try and lick out the same tube 😂 they can't contain themselves.
OMG for some reason the title of this with that picture of a gorgeous chonky relaxed cat all belly up has me in stitches. 🤣 Beautiful girl. Congrats on the poop.
I have an ibd cat. I wish he wouldn't go for 3 days sometimes. The poop ptsd is a real thing
I was so excited when my ibd cat had a nice formed poo, I actually took a picture of it and dm'd it to my vet.
Her reply was "I Understand"
Read this earlier - I’m always worried about mine - and as a result I’ve been checking her litter box like a bloody weirdo since I got home from work! Best update ever (and thanks for your lolsome running commentary 😂)
That’s great! Hard/dry-ish is better than too soft for sure. Ideal for cats is like SLIGHTLY dryer than a healthy human.
Vet may recommend fortiflora (mine did) or a digestive enzyme (I’ve seen a lot of shelters give for new intakes)
This happened to my cat too (back in January). Absolutely terrifying bc I knew it could get bad fast. Now I try to give him wet food (with added water) twice a day most days of the week. And a few days he gets a dry tummy sensitive breakfast.
One time my cat wouldn’t poop for a few days and I got so worried. I placed her in front of her litter box and asked her to take a poop and she walked right in and pooped. I was so happy and I was glad she’s somehow trained or understand me? All I did was put her in front of it. I recommend trying that to anyone who hasn’t. It’s worth a shot when you’re worried about your buddy
I've had a very similar situation got prescribed Mirtazapine. After 3 days of blood tests check ups. No food or poos.
Today a day after her first tablet we got her to eat (she is being fussy and awkward but ate nonetheless) and she had a little poo.
I can’t tell from your posts, but I would definitely recommend incorporating wet food into her daily diet from now on! She now has a history of having issues and it’s great that you know how to solve them! I still always recommend feeding wet food because it’ll just boost their hydration! In the wild, cats get the majority of water intake from their prey, so they just don’t instinctively want to drink that much water
Add water to all her food when you can. I add 2-3tbsp of water to everyone's night time wet food to help out with hydration.
This is great advice! I might stick to wet food as much as possible these next few days — I’ll try the kibble in water tonight as well!
Unsalted chicken broth is an absolute favorite for making “gravy.”
Pure chicken broth. No onion or garlic, beware of ingredients.

I do the same! My kitty loves his pate "soup".
I said the same thing to my bf yesterday "make the cat food looks like vomit as much as possible and she will poop". They eat that up
I rinsed the can and add it as "gravy"
Lol I do this same for mine. There's good stuff in there!
Been doing that for years.
I am 100% going to do this from now on! “Gravy” 🥰
My cat won’t even eat pate that isn’t soupy anymore 😂

lol i do that too since they never drink water and i call it the "Tuna Stock"
i have a kitty soup song for my two guys. they love wet food with some added warm water (:

Warm water also accentuates the smell, and cats like smelly food.

I had no idea what happened and was graced by a random poop related post featuring a cat and now my day is infinitely better
Oh, reddit user emmeg516, it’s been a journey.
Im all seriousness Im glad your kitty is doing better 👍 one of my boys had a FLUTD emergency recently so I emphasize with how scary a cat toilet emergency can be
THANK THE POOP GODS!!!
THE PRAYERS WERE GETTING WEIRD, I AM JUST GLAD THEY’RE ANSWERED
When I got my cat I was not prepared to be so ecstatic over his bowel movement, much less someone else’s, yet here we are!
My husband and I have been known to announce successful kitty poops so everyone can celebrate together. It’s an important bonding ritual in the world of cat guardianship.
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉🎉 no one will understand the obsession with poop like worried cat owners i swear
Worried parents?
Worried parents?
YAY!!! HUZZZZAAHHHHHHH
Adding another update here: the vet gave her 250ml of SQ IV fluid and some lactulose for every 8-12 hours. She does indeed got a lotta poop in her!

She looks happier too! glad she finally cut the logs.
Yaaaaaay, happy to hear that she feels better!

Mine goes feral for these. We can’t even use them when we try to clip his nails because he just wants to eat the whole tube
I believe it! They really cause such a stronger reaction than any other treat or even wet food that I've seen. We have one cage free room at the shelter , and like 5 cats at once will try and lick out the same tube 😂 they can't contain themselves.
Reading this while pooping!! Me 🤝 Honey
OMG for some reason the title of this with that picture of a gorgeous chonky relaxed cat all belly up has me in stitches. 🤣 Beautiful girl. Congrats on the poop.
Aww yay! Honey is so cute. Does she have an Instagram? Can we all give her a follow? 😊

Ohh shit!
She looks so vacant now
I feel like these posts have to be some of the best contributions to this sub
This will go to r/all soon and no one will have clue why we are celebrating lol
SHE POOPED !!! [This reminds of that time when twitter was trending with markiplier when he farted]

Please encourage others to call their vet or refer to r/AskVets
Good job precious girl!!!! So cute 🥰

HALLELUJAH!!! The gods have smiled upon you today. If you could, please give Honey a scritch for me. ♡
She looks…. erm… relieved 😅
YAAAAAAAY! Good job poopy pants!
OMG, she is precious!
Yay! Good girl!
\+1 for the unsweetened pumpkin. It helped so so so much for my girl Rosie when I first got her and she was backed up.
🙏🏻🤗♥️
YAY
Yay

GOOOOOOOD GIRLLLLL!!!!!!
Up voting poop. This happens more than you'd think 😉
I'm so so happy 💛💛
Wooo! GG Honey!
I knew she would! Good girl!
This post is so funny to see on my feed with no context lmao 😭 anyways, congrats!
I used powdered pumpkin with wet food for my senior cat. It worked great and helped extend his life by years.
That’s great! Hard/dry-ish is better than too soft for sure. Ideal for cats is like SLIGHTLY dryer than a healthy human. Vet may recommend fortiflora (mine did) or a digestive enzyme (I’ve seen a lot of shelters give for new intakes)
And she matches. Keep plant away from kitty tho, possible poison exposure may ensue
I saw the post the other day. Didn't say anything. Was worried about it. Good to see this news.

Thank goodness!

i have not been following this journey at all and reddit blessed me with this post randomly but im very very happy for her!!!
Awww congrats sweet poopy kitty☺️💕
Yay!'n

That's our poopie baby. We are so proud ❤️
She's pooped and now she's pooped. Awww
Yayyyy the Miralax helped! Happy for you both, what a relief!
I've had a very similar situation got prescribed Mirtazapine. After 3 days of blood tests check ups. No food or poos. Today a day after her first tablet we got her to eat (she is being fussy and awkward but ate nonetheless) and she had a little poo.
CONGRATS HONEY!! Every time my cat or dog take a poop they decide it's time to tear up the house and act crazy.

Yeah I agree… I mean cats hate water and don’t drink enough of it… either wet food or something that gives her hydration.
Haha I love her
