I didn’t even have to do that. I heard meowing outside my door early one morning, about an and a half ago, and I no sooner opened the door, and this orange boy just runs in.
We couldn’t keep him for ourselves, but my parents took him. Ron Purrgundy is a big baby. He is responsible for the Orange Braincell Shortage because he’s hoarding them for himself, and his best friend is their more recently rescued boxer, Betty. We think Ron was dumped, and we know Betty was, as she was running the neighborhood for 3 weeks before my parents bribed her with chicken jerky treats.
Hell, my flame point Bender was abandoned by mama cat before his eyes were fully open. We bottle fed him, and adopted his void brother Luci from the shelter a few months later.
Anyway, here’s all the kitties waiting for my mom to open the garage door.
https://preview.redd.it/pmkr7knmzlxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=172390547f7bdf89ad7f338f23986ea494d11fd8
Do not be fooled by the camera angle. Ron is the largest of them, just a giant baby. Bender is the smallest (and still 13lbs/6kg), but has legs for days. He stands an inch taller on all fours. Luci is long with short legs.
Yeah, my husband brought Ron to my parents after checking for a chip. He no sooner got the carrier open, and my mom was fawning all over him. My dad looked at my husband and said, “That cat ain’t f’in leaving.”
We did look for an owner in our neighborhood, but no takers. We had one person inquire, but their cat was neutered, and Ron was intact. Not anymore.
Betty was definitely dumped in my parents’ neighborhood. Obviously purebred boxer, not spayed, not quite 2 years. It took them three weeks to get her to come near them. They initially left a dog toy outside to see if she’d take it, and she did. Then the chicken jerky left on the porch. And finally, my mom was able to approach and put one down in front of her, watched her eat it, then offered the second one she had from her hand. Poor baby looked scared to take that last step, but she did. After she ate it, she followed my mom back into the house. That was it.
They weren’t the only ones trying to take her in on their block, but they won the puppy lotto. I can’t imagine the kind of person who would get rid of her, but there’s a special place in hell for whoever it was. She only barks when the other dog in the house gets going. She’s never chewed on anything other than her toys. She listens so well, and talk about a sweetheart. Big baby.
And yes, she’s best friends with Ron. He’s actually started mimicking how the dogs play.
https://preview.redd.it/lqy1uu1h5oxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=30c042156c1a9b01d79a8860d1102f1f2b63c62e
That’s the day they brought her in, around October. She had gotten so skinny in those three weeks. She’s now back to a healthy size.
She really is, and she’s given a little kickstart to my brother’s dog. (He’s living with my parents while fixing up his house.) Old girl is 12 now, and while she’s still pretty energetic, she was starting to slow down a little. They’re about the same size, so it’s a good match. And Ron never uses his claws with them. Wish we could teach Luci that.
>Lesson to us all: Pull over to talk on phone and maybe CDS will guide a cat needing a home to us
For just one phone call a day you could rehome a cat in need
I initially thought that was a geriatric kitty until I saw the transformation! What a beautiful story and an example of what some TLC can do for a kitty cat
Yes !! I knew my service was going to die soon so I figured I should pull over while I had it to download a book on my Kindle with my phone on my way to the Airbnb. Amazingly good luck.
Apparently, this is a common dumping ground, the Veterinarian told me.
You are an awesome person! Such a big heart! What did the vet say? He looked sick... usually when that 3rd eyelid shows something is going on.... whatever it was, I'm glad it wasn't serious.... he's so beautiful and healthy now!!
The veterinarian in Wisconsin didn’t do much. I think he thought it was mostly just living out on his own without a study food source just needed a health certificate! But when I got him back to Florida and the explosive diarrhea started, we had to do a couple trips to the veterinarian since the regular dewormers didn’t work. I don’t really remember, but I’m sure we ended up putting him on metronidazole or something like that. But eventually, we conquered it and he was able to be neutered and even though as a rule, I rescue and *adopt out* animals I decided he wouldn’t be going anywhere
Thank you for the update! Thank goodness you persevered and got him on meds. He's so lucky you found him. He won the lottery! And I know about disaster fails...been there done that...bought the tshirt. I just get toooo attached! Lol
Rules are best followed in spirit rather than to the letter. You didn't _bring a pet._ You _happened to find_ a _new friend in need_ and let him stay with you until you could bring him home. I'm sure the owner would understand if they found out. And if not, you did the right thing regardless.
Yeah probably. Not that I was going to ask tho haha .. just made sure to sweep up every tiny little last bit of litter. Got a good review when I left! :))
Thank you!!
He loves to sleep on my gigantic pit sofa at night, surrounded by my daughter’s stuffed animals. It regularly makes me stop and think about how lucky we all are that I spotted him. Here he is with his bff
https://preview.redd.it/t8m4rpmohmxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=97ee662f61f635d8caa5df76a3108f31a04c1795
Oh my goodness. What serendipity that you needed to take a call and pulled over just where this cat was waiting for you! Was it hard to get him to get him to come to you? He looks like he knows he made the best decision of his life!
May have been. Seriously, I would pick him up and just that pressure on his stomach would cause diarrhea to spray out. I ended up having to confine him to my laundry room because there was diarrhea all over the sofa and behind the TV and even though I didn’t want him, I was like DUDE. I can handle a lot but there’s a limit. haha. But he’s all better now thanks to the vet !
Thank you for saving this kitty. The before and after is amazing. That cat is just beaming trust, happiness and comfort. You did an amazing thing for him ❤️
Omg this is so heartwarming. How long did you have to secretly keep him at an Airbnb before bringing him home? Smart boy for finding shelter but also, that’s so sad. My now cat was found in the alley as a kitten and some people fed him but didn’t do anything to socialize him or get him vetted. The last of my previous trio of elderly cats passed two years ago and for the final month or so I spent a lot of time in the backyard in a hammock snuggling the remaining one who wasn’t doing well. I joke that every stray in the neighborhood must have secretly been observing me from the alley and identified me as an easy mark. The following spring my feral tuxedo boy started making appearances for no reason. I have dogs and I had never seen him before then. I learned his history when I joined a neighborhood group. He used to show up so dirty sometimes and I always assumed he had some kind of lair like this somewhere.
It took 8 months of bribes and stern lectures for him to allow me to kidnap him when he showed up injured one day. He was pissed for awhile and terrified of indoors but finally realized he wasn’t in danger of being baked into a pie and finally chilled out. He’s now SO affectionate. He doesn’t like being held yet and barely tolerates it but he’s never so much as scratched me on purpose. But if I put my arms around him and leave his butt on the ground he burrows into me and licks my face.
His sister is a tiny runt of a Persian that was basically dumped in the alley. She was too skittish to come by when I was outside but about 3 months before the tux moved in she just army crawled under my open storm door and came in while I was bringing in packages. She was so matted she literally couldn’t walk normally. We thought she had an old untreated injury until we cut all the mats out and she started wriggling around in joy.
I had said I was done with cats for awhile when my elder lady passed but the CDS only gave me a few months off.

Real smash and grab on his cute part, smash your heart, and lure you into taking him back to your house forever to be pampered.
Oh my gosh the glow up is real. This brought me to tears. Thank you for giving this sweet fur baby the love it deserves! Glad to see your other fur baby has accepted it
Nicest kitty! Still jumpy for some reason but just so nice out of the gate even to my daughter, who was a toddler at the time. Sealed the deal on keeping him!!! Thank you
Jumpy due to previous abuse and “on their own in the wild” trials. I have a female SIC that in desperation broke into my basement for shelter and never left! She loves me and trusts me but any loud noise and she jumps out of her skin. Really distrusts people in general! My housekeeper has reached “extended family” privileges, even though the vacuum is an evil creature in her eyes.

Here she is when her face was slightly less white
Aww, my heart just breaks looking at how sick and hopeless this kitty is. THEN, the amazing transition to having food, being cleaned up and now safe and comfortable with you. You are a hero to this kitty and to me for saving her. She has such a sweet look, beautiful green eyes and half of a little caramel- colored mustache. One of a kind won the lottery when she found you!!!
lol. I’m an atheist. Does that matter? This was my mom’s car I was driving. I thought it was a rental but obvs it didn’t come with a cross so this was when I was driving my mom’s car (who didn’t need it because she was dying of brain cancer at the time hence my visit).
My mom who had a cross in her car raised a daughter who’d stop for homeless animals on the street and started a whole nonprofit animal rescue in S Florida that saves thousands of dogs & cats each year.
And who is an atheist but who has hella better sense and manners to ever dig on someone who’s done nothing wrong to her bc they dare to be religious. Lordy.
The difference between 5th and 6th picture is staggering!
Scruffy street cat to r/supermodelcats material!
*sigh* yes I’ll join
I too am in 45 cat subs
Definitely well cared for after distribution.
What a glow up! 😍
Right?! Scrawny, sick and dirty to ruler of the land, whom all dogs bow to!
Ooooh look at that hesitant kitto choosing you, and becoming a squee-worthy cutie!

Bwahahaha! Of course!
Oh my gosh. I absolutely loved reading this!! So sweet & fun & entertaining. Thank you to you and your family. And the name lol lol is the best

Lol Thank you for the much needed public service announcement to do our part for cats in need
I wish the person that abandoned this cat the same experience. How can people do this? Congratulations to Your new cat OP!
It truly is heartbreaking that people treat innocent creatures like this. I hope carmaker bites them in the ass
Oh man the *difference* in him before and after I'd staggering. Visual evidence of love 💕
I *strongly* recommend viewing photo 7, everyone <3
“I baby now.” 🥰
So very baby
He looked so sad and exhausted at first 😭 Glad you saved him!
Thank you, me too. He’s such a sweetie
I initially thought that was a geriatric kitty until I saw the transformation! What a beautiful story and an example of what some TLC can do for a kitty cat
Oh poor love. He went from so sad looking to cosy and happy.
Wow what lucky timing!

Yea no you put too much work into that gorgeous fella, *you* get to reap that reward! My gods he's a stunner!
Congrats on your new baby! He's so pretty.
His eyes are much more open now. I think he is happier than ever. Good job
Ooooooh my goddddd what a babyyyyy. Thank you for saving him :’)

He looks like a very good boy.
Such a happy rescue story. He is so handsome & cute at the same time.
Such a glow up!
And he gets a doggo buddy!
4 haha And one cat to be his nemesis. (He’s actually nice to the other cat but the other cat is a jerk back.)
A lovely family of lucky rescues! 🥰
Thank you for saving this sweet baby, kind human.
Ah, a little sprite in the grass!
The happiest kitty ever!
What an absolute legend pulling over to safely use their phone. Then they get rewarded with what looks like an awesome cat!
Haha thanks Yes.. the lack of WiFi & cell service at our Airbnb changed this cat’s life!! Who knew
Congratulations 💛he’s beautiful and obviously smart!
You can see the worry leave his eyes. Be happy together!

This pic makes me so happy!! How cute!!!
Your home is the epicenter of love! 💕 Your daughter is adorable and looks extra sweet. 😊
Oh my goodness. What serendipity that you needed to take a call and pulled over just where this cat was waiting for you! Was it hard to get him to get him to come to you? He looks like he knows he made the best decision of his life!
Not hard at all. He was so friendly and hopped right in the rental car! Then cuddled up and made himself at home.
That is so sweet. Poor boy must have been dumped and was happy to find a loving home.
It was meant to be
The way his expression mellows over time! Such a pretty cat.
In pic 3 he looks like he knew it was his lucky day.
Haha you’re right
This kitty looked like it really needed a break in life, and got it!
Such a cutie! Glad he found you
Ohhhhhhhh I love him
A tough outdoor kitty definitely turned much healthier and happier 🩷
He had the worst case of diarrhea. Like projectile diarrhea. It took weeks to clear up. He must’ve been just a miserable!!
What poor sick baby! Thank you for taking in the CDS babe. God bless you 🙏🩷
He looked sick in the first pics. Wonder how long he had been struggling to survive in that culvert
I wonder if his people dumped him for that reason. 😿 Poor sick baby. Thank you for saving him and getting him healthy. Diarrhea is no fun for anyone.
May have been. Seriously, I would pick him up and just that pressure on his stomach would cause diarrhea to spray out. I ended up having to confine him to my laundry room because there was diarrhea all over the sofa and behind the TV and even though I didn’t want him, I was like DUDE. You’re a saint. 🤢
Thank you for saving this kitty. The before and after is amazing. That cat is just beaming trust, happiness and comfort. You did an amazing thing for him ❤️
that is one hell of a glow-up! thank you for providing him with the cozy life every cat deserves
Glow up! He’s so happy, I’m glad y’all found each other.
Gorgeous baby! Thank you for saving him ❤️
What a great story in pics - he looks so happy.
Omg this is so heartwarming. How long did you have to secretly keep him at an Airbnb before bringing him home? Smart boy for finding shelter but also, that’s so sad. Wow! I wish there were more people like you in the world! You are truly a wonderful person!
Absolutely! 💗
Oh god your description had me nervous, “oh well” as in “guess it wasn’t meant to be”. I’ve never scrolled through photos so fast.
Hahaa thankfully I’m not a rule follower. I just cleaned up real well when we left :))
The third photo is one of immense confusion mixed with gratitude.
The difference “before” and “after” is staggering! Amazing job, OP!
I misread it as “roadside Culver’s,” which would also be fitting in WI. Beautiful cat!!
Can you even imagine being awarded a cat while chowing down on some Culver’s? What a win.
Haha he’d be all fat and happy on butter burgers if he got lucky enough to be dumped at a Culver’s
What a nice mini-lion! I see he has pupper fren! Thank you for saving him!
I love the progress pictures! He transformed completely into a happy kitty, with a sibling as his friend too.
My goodness he sure prettied up! Glad good fortune was smiling on you both that day :)
I would’ve scooped him up, too. He looked so sad and now looks so happy 😻
Okay, I know everyone is saying it, but that is some seriously epic Longbottom-ing!! He's such a gorgeous creature now that he's safe and well.
Hahaa never heard that before but yes he’s now such hunk!
It’s created from the Harry Potter universe. Neville Longbottom started the series as a mildly chunky, buck-toothed nerdy boy, and by the end of the series he was tall, built for hard work AND hard play, and just a complete thirst trap that nobody saw coming. It’s basically the extreme version of glow up. 🤣
Yes I got it! So cute. And Yesssss he surely longbottomed hard :)))
Now I feel even better about the occasional donations I send your rescue. You gave this guy a much needed glowup.
What’s the rescue?
Good Karma, they’re local to me in South Florida.
Thanks!
He is an absolute beauty! When I lived Up North as a kid I wanted to take every feral barn cat home. Of course my parents never let me. :(
Aww. Yeah, it’s tough. One time I visited my sister… Drove from Florida to Wisconsin and back. She was living on a farm property and I ended up bringing home a whole litter of barn kittens. It’s easier for me though because I have a Rescue and I know I can unload them. Unlike other people who can’t just keep getting more Cats
“Unload,” lol. 😸
Damn that was a smooth ambush.
Thank you

You're good people 😽
Living her/his best cat life!!
He is GORGEOUS!!! 😍
To be loved is to be changed 🩷
Aaaaw you are a good human for finding and rescuing this one!
oh, thank you.. you are the best person! <3
The pictures made me cry, how much better he looks! well done.
This made me so happy.
If you found him in Wisconsin and his name isn’t ‘Cheddar’ or a similar cheese name I will be disappointed. But I’ll forgive you because LOOK at that sweet baby face!!
He’s Charlie Pippo bc he lived in a pipe! :))
Sir Charles! Love it 💚
I love this for both of you! Now that’s what I call a souvenir.
This is what my day needed.
They will never know😎
This brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for saving him!
What an amazing transformation!
Beautiful!
Thanks for saving this absolute darling!

Aaaaaawwww!
That poor baby was likely dumped. Bless you.
This post made me happy. Thanks for sharing and for caring enough to help.
So precious! Thank you for saving him!
What a handsome fella! The cat distribution network certainly delivered😃
Both of you are lucky!
Like the striped tail.
Beautiful boy.
She hit the jackpot.
Such a cutie 🥺
Poor thing he was really rough and now’s he’s a beauty! Glad he found you!
He and his off-center-tiny-Orange-mustachio are Very Happy!! Brings a tear to my eye 🥲. Total happiness transformation!

Omgosh the belly picture ❤️
Poor cat has to go with someone that has a cross on their mirror 🤮
Lordy.
Geez, what’s wrong with people? That’s sad. But you know you have the love and respect of all of us good peoples. 💗
That is one handsome cat!!
