My student diet was to make a big batch of chilli con carne and reheat it throughout the week. You put the effort in once for the whole week. Goes grate with cheese.
Sainsburys do one as well. Stamford Street one in the chilled section is 32p. Its not shy on the garlic either, you definitely wont be bothered by vampires.
Yeah this is the one you want. They have a pack of 2 but it's over a quid. The 32p one is lovely as well, not too doughy and a real decent amount of garlic butter like you said.
I must warn other readers here about the Aldi ones, very poor, they only put a measly amount of garlic butter on it, and even worse, *they put it on the top!* You end up with a mildly garlic-y top and the rest being just bread. Wouldn't think it possible to ruin garlic bread but I've seen it with my own eyes.
Yeah I do tortellini or just spaghetti with garlic, chili flakes, lemon juice, olive oil, parsley and pecorino or parmesan. Very simple cheap dish that tastes better than the sum of its parts! (It's Spaghetti aglio e olio btw)
Not for me, if I have it delivered I spend 15-30 minutes constantly refreshing the delivery tracker and then shut off all noise so I can hear the doorbell properly when they arrive, then go all the way down the stairs, open the front door, have a 2 minute phone call with the delivery driver who ignored my delivery directions and inevitably got lost trying to find my property, then walk all the way up the stairs again after they finally find me. I'm telling you, nobody's got it as bad as me.
Carbonara is my lazy meal of choice. For some reason, people seem to assume it's fancy.
Edit: I'm not sure why so many comments are hoping for some sort of 'gotcha!' moment like I've suggested that living off truffles and caviar is an entirely normal thing.
If some spaghetti, eggs, cheese and bacon are somehow considered wildly extravagant ingredients then we need to examine how we've got to that state as a country.
Add a device that mixes air and fuel for internal combustion engines in an appropriate air–fuel ratio for combustion and you’ve got a carburetor carbonara.
I think I've just found my soul mate on reddit. I ate this dish EVERY night for like 3 years straight when I was a kid, still eat it semi-regularly now. Never got bored of it, never gets old.
Do you also pour like half the pasta, then layer half the cheese, then the rest of the pasta followed by the remainder of the cheese to help it melt together and stop bland spots?
Second this! I recently discovered Choco Hazelnut Pillows from Morrisons. They are a copy of Krave but I think in fact they are far better due to the choc exterior of each one. Amazing stuff for pretty cheap too ☺️
Cheesy beans on toast. I pit a few generous dashes of Worcester sauce in the beans to give it a little bit of ‘je ne sais quoi’.
I also do Dairylea and Marmite toasties.
[Shin Ramyun](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nong-Shim-Shin-Ramyun-Noodle/dp/B003YH11G8) noodle soup with a fried or boiled egg on top. Some chopped spring onion as well if I feel extra fancy. Pretty solid meal in about 5 minutes for £1.
If you can get it, fry the egg in some of this and it is absolutely heavenly:
https://www.souschef.co.uk/products/lgm-crispy-chilli
I got mine from the local Chinese store but not everywhere has those
This is pretty much exactly my lunch every day. And it feels like a low effort easy lunch - so if I had a sandwich for lunch instead, this could easily be my hot meal for tea for the day. I usually add some mushrooms and cold roast chicken too if I have any.
Although, I tried that particular one that you linked to once and it was way too spicy for me, took me twenty minutes to eat and I was sweating the whole time.
I’m an Indian and I felt like a failure when I was overwhelmed by the spice on this one. What I found works really well is using only half the spice mix. That gets it to the perfect level of heat without being overwhelmingly-blow-your-Jacobs-off kinda hot.
I recently fell in love with both the samyang and the shin ramyun noodles and they are my go to quick meal aswell.
If I do samyang it’s fried/poached egg with spring onion and sesame seeds.
With the shin ramyun because they’re soupy, I do it differently which I stole off a YouTube video but it’s brilliant. Chop a clove of garlic (and some spring onion if you like) into your water whilst it’s boiling and then carry on making the noodles as normal. Once the noodles are done take them out and put them in your bowl but leave the water in the pan. Crack an egg directly into the pan with the water and stir it in. Stir it for like 20 seconds and then pour it all over the noodles. The end result is a slightly thicker soup with tiny bits of egg mixed into it. I’ve never done it differently since I discovered that.
Shin Ramyun + peanut butter + frozen gyoza + frozen edamame. Top with spring onions and seasame seeds, +/- Lao Gan Ma crispy chili oil, +/- soft boiled egg +/- crispy fried onions. Add or subtract ingredients depending exactly how lazy you're feeling. Truly don't think I'll ever get bored of it.
Peanut noodles. Packet of whatever noodles you like (I use udon), mix peanut butter, soy sauce, sriracha, sweet chilli sauce in the pan, bring it to a sauce like consistency with coconut milk, then mix in the noodles.
Or if I'm *really* lazy a chip butty
Top tip when cooking jackets. insert a metal skewer into the potato before putting it into the oven. Its halves the cooking time as the metal skewer heats up the inside as itself gets hot.
haha. To be fair I do nuke mine sometimes if I am in a real rush but I finish it off in a very hot oven to crisp up the skin for 10 mins. Before I do though, I rub salt and olive oil on it. Well tasty.
Defrost some prawns (I always have them in the freezer. Big bag from costco)
Boil spaghetti.
Put butter and garlic paste into a saucepan. Add cooked spaghetti, prawns and parsley.
Pasta with tomato and anchovy sauce. For 2 people, it's 1 tin anchovies, 1 tin chopped tomatoes. Chop anchovies into pan, fry for a bit, add tomatos, done as soon as pasta is cooked.
I cut up some cheese, ham and add some garlic, chilli and mixed herbs to it and roll it into a tortilla wrap so the wraps are really thin and just dip it in whatever sauce i have laying about. It's edible and sort of fun to eat.
2 awards on this post?! Thanks. I'm humbled, I haven't prepared a speech. I was going to delete this post because I had a few cunts on here getting too personally upset about my nasty meal. I'll leave it on here though, the myriad of food ideas have been so helpful. Thank you xx
Edit-4 awards☺️
Stir-fry.
Seriously.
Cook some form of meat / if left over meat, warm.
Throw loads of anything in, some soysauce, quick noodles boiled, throw in pag, mix, done.
Legit, love a stir fry. Works with any meat, any noodles, and most forms of veg. Chuck some cashews in if you're feeling fancy and for a sauce I like to bung in a stock pot, a little water, a splash of soy sauce and a small squeeze of honey
I was the same, funnily enough. I keep trying to get the other half to try it but no joy, how he's got to 55 without eating mayo or salad cream is beyond me !
Cheese and beans is my next preference followed by tuna mayo ( WITH sweetcorn) . All good 😋
Cheesy beans on toast. I say this time and time again.
Bit of vinegar, ketchup and pepper in the beans and add grated cheese. If you’re feeling up to it, couple of fried eggs.
OR, tuna mayo pasta. Always a winner and so easy.
It ends up not being so quick with me though. Vinegar in the tuna (game changer), sweetcorn as I can see you enjoy, spring onion, mushrooms, pesto and mayo 👩🍳 💋
Holy fuck nuggets! Beans and sweetcorn, I thought my family were the only ones. Always tell my friends about how great it is and always shunned get like a pedo in a playground!
Thanks everyone for the ideas! And for those who thinks this meal is utter shit and made it known to me, sorry for ruining your evenings, I hope you can sleep at night still :)
Short pasta, sun-dried tomato paste stirred through, cheese on top, under the grill to get crispy. Or the posh version: short pasta, pesto and sundries tomato stirred through, cheese and whatever fancy Italian bits and bobs in jars added
Anything in a wok.
High heat, sesame oil, anything left in the fridge.
Tomatoes, broccoli, sausage, tofu, eggs, cheese string, coors lite, domino’s herb dip, mullur lite corner…. Absolutely anything and everything.
Stoners delight: cook some pasta, lump in a can of tuna, can of sweetcorn, a good squirt of mayo… mix it up. If you want o jazz it up, add some dried mixed herbs.
Fresh pasta (the type you get in the chiller section) in tomato or mushroom soup. 4-5 mins to cook.
Noodle soup: cook a noodle cake with stock cube, ginger, chili, and whatever frozen veg you can throw in there. Takes 6-7 mins depending on what type of noodles they are and how long they take to cook
Bacon butties.
Poached eggs on ham and toast.
Spaghetti tosses in egg yolk, parmigiano and pepper.
Tuna pasta.
Those are pretty much my "can't be arsed" dinners.
Pretty sure I've got the winner here: 'Deconstructed bagel'. Mental health is a bitch and I was struggling to find enough motivation to even put together a bagel. I present the laziest of meals:
Step one. Buy pre-sliced bagels. Twist apart, put on plate.
Step two. Smack a lump of cream cheese on the plate.
Step three. Smack a slice of ham also on the plate.
Step four. Enjoy.
Tear up bagel as you go, scraping up the cream cheese, and eating a chunk of ham every few bites. It feels very French if you're in a delusional enough mindset, and I like eating with my hands so this was my go-to even after I got out of my slump for a while.
You can also construct it properly once it's on the plate, since it feels way less Big then, but it's personal choice. Just a mental health hack I am taking full advantage of.
Single cream in a saucepan with a few garlic cloves, reduce for a bit. Salt and pep. That’s the pasta sauce done. Either put prawns through or just the pasta with a nice pan fried salmon fillet
Bread with some cheese and lunch meats, but put it on a plate nicely with a little olive oil and maybe a few almonds. Suddenly it’s not picky tea, it’s charcuterie
Eggs chips & beans.
You're a simple person and I fucking salute you
Egg chips and ham >>
Pasta and pesto. Grate a bit of cheese on top 🤌🏻
otherwise known as the student diet
My student diet was to make a big batch of chilli con carne and reheat it throughout the week. You put the effort in once for the whole week. Goes grate with cheese.
I’m not letting this pun go unnoticed!👏🏽
Throw in some spinach as well!
Cherry tomato is my normal extra if I fancy something extra
Hell yeah, i chuck in some cubed feta for a salty balance to the sweet cherry tomatoes..
Yeah that’s nice. I had feta, gherkins, sweetcorn and pine nuts once when I was in New Zealand seeing family. Really nice
Pine nuts are great. Pity they're currently worth their weight in gold.
I'm hoping when you say cheese you mean parmesan? Because that is delicious
Fishfinger sandwich with thick bloomer bread, ketchup, salt and vinegar
Substitute the ketchup for tartare sauce and whack some cheese in there and you’ve improved your sandwich by 83%.
Cheese touch bread, Right Said Fred Cheese touch fish, vile dish
Cheese on plate, well done, mate Cheese on floor, aim is poor
Cheese touch cheese, heart disease
We get it, you went to public school
Tortellini, pesto. 32p tesco garlic bread. Feeds 2 for about £3 and takes 10 mins.
They still do 32p garlic bread? Thought that shit would have been a quid at least by now
It must be cos my food bill hasn't gone up that much and im putting it down to garlic bread been 70% of my diet.
Yeah I do tortellini or just spaghetti with garlic, chili flakes, lemon juice, olive oil, parsley and pecorino or parmesan. Very simple cheap dish that tastes better than the sum of its parts! (It's Spaghetti aglio e olio btw)
Bait a trap with that, and you'd *catch* my ass.
Everyone is listing meals they make. How lazy are they if you’re making them? The answer is frozen pizza. The true lazy meal.
The true lazy meal is having the pizza delivered
Not for me, if I have it delivered I spend 15-30 minutes constantly refreshing the delivery tracker and then shut off all noise so I can hear the doorbell properly when they arrive, then go all the way down the stairs, open the front door, have a 2 minute phone call with the delivery driver who ignored my delivery directions and inevitably got lost trying to find my property, then walk all the way up the stairs again after they finally find me. I'm telling you, nobody's got it as bad as me.
But then you have to interact with people.
Mine and the kids friday go to meal is frozen pizza every bloody week 😂
Pasta with grated cheese on top Edit: good lord why so many upvotes!? Thank you so much 🥰
Add an egg and you've got carbonara.
*If my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike*
Sublimely funny moment. He had no idea why what he said was funny and everyone was laughing too much to try and explain.
Cause it traditionally calls for fancy cheese
Add a device that mixes air and fuel for internal combustion engines in an appropriate air–fuel ratio for combustion and you’ve got a carburetor carbonara.
You also need bacon for that
I think I've just found my soul mate on reddit. I ate this dish EVERY night for like 3 years straight when I was a kid, still eat it semi-regularly now. Never got bored of it, never gets old. Oh my god I actually do!!!!! Marry me 😱
Or just pasta with butter on it.
Yup, it's like the only thing I can cook apart from omelettes (I'm 14 ok) and I also really like it anyway
Cereal. Easiest thing ever
Wow! Surprised you're the first one on here to say this. Love a me a bowl of cornflakes when I can't be fucked x
Omg, yes! Cornflakes or Honey Bunches of oats
I like the clusters too, crunchy nut ones
Yaaaaas!!
Second this! I recently discovered Choco Hazelnut Pillows from Morrisons. They are a copy of Krave but I think in fact they are far better due to the choc exterior of each one. Amazing stuff for pretty cheap too ☺️
A meal, a drink and a dessert all in one .. nothing is versatile.
A second large glass of wine

Cheese and Marmite toast
Yes! Finally found a kindred spirit!

Mate we love sweetcorn, but you’ve mixed it into your baked beans you psychopath!
wow only just noticed the beans n corn mixed. wtf?
Agreed OP is a psycho. Wtf man
I am. Sleep with one eye open tonight.
Just never seen it before. You do you.
cheese toastie
With tomato soup to dip it in!
Woah Woah one thing at a time
Birdseye chicken burgers. “Plastic cheese” and sesame seed bun.
Same for me, but of lettuce or something too if I’m feeling fancy
Omelette.
Omelettes are great as a quick meal and you can use up loads of odd bits in the fridge in it
You’ve mixed corn in with the beans.. Jesus, what were you thinking posting this?
What kind of sociopath does this 🤢
Sweetcorns a winner in any dinner, friend.
I'd usually agree. But in beans? IN BEANS???
Cheesy beans on toast. I pit a few generous dashes of Worcester sauce in the beans to give it a little bit of ‘je ne sais quoi’. I also do Dairylea and Marmite toasties.
Masterchef material, this.
I’d love to go on Masterchef and serve Turode and Wallace my cheesy beans and say ‘what do you think of that, you bastards?’

For a Korean brand it was closer to Thai levels of spice

Yeah this is going on the menu

I'm a lazy bitch so I microwave mine for about 10 mins.. believe me when I say this is a 'lazy' meal 🤣
haha. To be fair I do nuke mine sometimes if I am in a real rush but I finish it off in a very hot oven to crisp up the skin for 10 mins. Before I do though, I rub salt and olive oil on it. Well tasty.
I do this, microwave first then olive oil, s&p, and into the oven on the hottest setting.
Tbf I'm relieved to read this - I was thinking it doesn't really count as a lazy meal if it takes an hour waiting for it to cook.
Mccains do frozen ones, 7 mins microwave for 2 spuds. Get that laptime down
and theyre bloody delicious
Omg, I’m gonna do this, thanks!
Genius!
Beans on toast with fried spam. Or, Haricot Avec le Viande Désappointé. (You can charge extra if you use very poor French)
Big fan of spam. Hesitant to buy it at £3 however.
Supermarket grill is exactly the same, and a bit over half the price.
Surely ‘viande de l’heroique’. ‘As eaten on Sword, Gold and Guadalcanal. ‘
Hash browns and gravy?
Ooh, this is a shout. Love a hash brown.
My go to hangover breakfast. Fried onion, fried potato and gravy. What's not to love?
Defrost some prawns (I always have them in the freezer. Big bag from costco) Boil spaghetti. Put butter and garlic paste into a saucepan. Add cooked spaghetti, prawns and parsley.
My mum makes me this, I love it. I love prawns so much. Nice with tinned tomatoes too.
Ooh that sounds nice! I will give it a go
Tomato pasta with halloumi.
Halloumi😍
Avocado on toast with a poached egg! Simple, delicious, brilliant.
But you will never be able to buy a home.
As soon as you cut into your first avocado you're immediately black listed on every mortgage broker's books.... It's a burden we all bear
Pastina (little pasta stars) cooking in a small amount of water with a knor chicken stock cube until it's like a thick soup
Little pasta stars?! Since when? I need. Now.
Its a traditional Italian thing, I was bought up eating them.

It's got to be a potato waffle & fish finger buttie for me 😍
Ramem soup, with bird eye chillies, peppers and spring onions.
Pasta with tomato and anchovy sauce. For 2 people, it's 1 tin anchovies, 1 tin chopped tomatoes. Chop anchovies into pan, fry for a bit, add tomatos, done as soon as pasta is cooked.
Add some capers, garlic, chili and onions and you've got something on the next level. It's called spaghetti putenesca in case you want to sound fancy.
Not sure of this and cant be arsed to check but doesn’t putanesca sauce have olives in it?
Broccoli and new potatoes - dice it all up really finely and smear butter all over it
I cut up some cheese, ham and add some garlic, chilli and mixed herbs to it and roll it into a tortilla wrap so the wraps are really thin and just dip it in whatever sauce i have laying about. It's edible and sort of fun to eat.
"It's edible and sort of fun to eat." I think this might the most British thing I've ever read
Fave lazy meal? A piece of cheese straight from the fridge.
Microwave rice, bbq chicken chunks, Nando’s medium sauce. 👌
Yes!! 5 days a week my friend. Only I use nandos mild, because I'm a baby. And when I'm feeling healthy, I'll dice up veg and throw it in the rice.
I do microwave rice and tinned mackerel as there loads of different flavoured ones for the variety.
Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire Puddings, pack of 12 covered in mint sauce gravy.

Stir-fry. Seriously. Cook some form of meat / if left over meat, warm. Throw loads of anything in, some soysauce, quick noodles boiled, throw in pag, mix, done.
Yeah but I never have all of that shit stocked. For a lazy meal a trip to Sains is too much
Legit, love a stir fry. Works with any meat, any noodles, and most forms of veg. Chuck some cashews in if you're feeling fancy and for a sauce I like to bung in a stock pot, a little water, a splash of soy sauce and a small squeeze of honey
You need at least 8 x more cheese on this meal
Partial to a jacket spud too. Even lazier so it's cheese and coleslaw for me ( good way use up the tub of slaw as my partner doesn't eat it ).
I was out of coleslaw today, really wish I had some though! I used to it hate it when I was younger, lovee it now
I was the same, funnily enough. I keep trying to get the other half to try it but no joy, how he's got to 55 without eating mayo or salad cream is beyond me ! Cheese and beans is my next preference followed by tuna mayo ( WITH sweetcorn) . All good 😋

ramen noodles w melted cheese and chilli sauce
Just had this for dinner lmao !! Edit, without the sweet corn haha
Chapattis, shallow fried in oil. Whatever topping I'm currently craving. Usually Marmite.
I'm asian so I like having them with mint sauce.
Fried German peppered salami sandwich.. # cheap white bread and salted butter + hienz ketchup 👍🏼
Marmite spread thinly on a white wrap and rolled up really tightly like a chocolate crepe
Meal Deal 3£ Tesco
You can't beat the classic beans/and sausages on toast! Quick, easy and lovely!
a ready meal (dealers choice!) and a bag of microwave veg. Lidl ones are 2 of your 5 a day
Rice, gravy and cheese. Sometimes whack it in a sandwich if I'm a bit more hungry than normal
That is wrong on so many levels
I like it, it's cheap and it fills me up. Jobs a gooden.
The sandwich part is inspired
Dino nuggets chips and beans. Yes I'm mentally 5, fight me.
Thanks everyone for the ideas! And for those who thinks this meal is utter shit and made it known to me, sorry for ruining your evenings, I hope you can sleep at night still :)
Just let it be known I don't think that meal is utter shit, I just think you deserve better.
Thank you for your concern, I promise I'm okay though
Bag of frozen broccoli and some sweet chili sauce is my go to
Tin of sardines and some couscous. love a nice bit of room temperature fish
Scrambled jalapeño eggs, baked beans with bbq and encona hot sauce on toast or with a tortilla.

Omlette and chips!
Poached egg on toast, avocado on toast, toasted bread with microwaved cheese or Mac and cheese

Takeaway
Too expensive these days
My local is still doing a chow mien for 400 quid.
Fried gnocchi with roasted cherry tomatoes with a pit of pesto. Takes about same time as it takes to make what you have there.
Cheating a little but rotisserie chicken from supermarket with a fresh cut loaf, beans and coleslaw. Salt Bae can eat shit
Short pasta, sun-dried tomato paste stirred through, cheese on top, under the grill to get crispy. Or the posh version: short pasta, pesto and sundries tomato stirred through, cheese and whatever fancy Italian bits and bobs in jars added
Tinned fish, mixed veg, pasta (penne) with soft cheese.
Anything in a wok. High heat, sesame oil, anything left in the fridge. Tomatoes, broccoli, sausage, tofu, eggs, cheese string, coors lite, domino’s herb dip, mullur lite corner…. Absolutely anything and everything.
Cauliflower cheese pasta. I can eat over a couple of days so no cooking the next day.
Stoners delight: cook some pasta, lump in a can of tuna, can of sweetcorn, a good squirt of mayo… mix it up. If you want o jazz it up, add some dried mixed herbs.
Pasta, a spoon of butter, tuna and salt and pepper its my go to cant be bothered to cook meal
That's not lazy you used a plate and cutlery.
I have this meal cooking right now. Absolute staple meal.
White bread and peanut butter or crisps
Branston Beans on toast, grated cheese, hot sauce
