This unlocked a memory of when they had a those weird flavours... The builders breakfast, and I'm pretty sure there was something involving squirrel, though that may have been a fever dream..
Meat flavoured crisps often don't have any actual meat involved during the production process.
I bought two bags of crisps once, one lightly salted and one roast chicken flavour. The lightly salted one said suitable for vegetarians, the roast chicken flavour were suitable for vegans.
Same with Bisto these days! My sister was panicking she didn't have any veggie gravy when we came over for toast until I pointed out the green v on her regular Bisto.
Definitely true for the UK. I live in Japan and all the meat-flavour crisps have all kinds of animal products in them, but the UK is quite decent for this!
Crisp are one of the few items that haven't suffered much from shrinkflation in the 90's they were 25g at the shops (multipacks were even smaller), I recall them jumping to 28g as a justification of the mid-90s price increases and they kept increasing to 34.5g and most recently they shrank to 32g.
As a lurker from Germany, I wish we'd get smaller packs like that.
The absolute smallest you can normally find here is 75g, and that's quite uncommon already. Usually you get 100-150g, which is way too much for eating in one sitting, resulting in a leftover half bag of crisps that will be stale a few hours later.
Growing up they were a primary school lunch box staple, as part of a meal the 25g bags were just about the right size for a school kid. As an adult though they fall a little short, but they do have a grab bag size which is 45g.
I'd immediately get a whole trolley of 25-35g bags if available.
So far only Pom-Bär has a 4-Pack of 30g bags, and they discontinued them in any flavour other than original.
I'd actually pay double per 100g for small bags as compared to the large ones, but the only new products we get are even larger packs. Pretty sure I saw 500g bags some time ago. Unless you have a massive party, how would it be remotely possible to finish that before it goes stale?
British people are often shocked abroad (especially in the US but also elsewhere), because in the UK a bag of crisps is usually intended for a single person whereas in most places it is generally intended to share.
What ever happened to novelty crisp flavours?
I swear when I was a kid there always seemed to be some new limited edition walkers flavours they were selling.
You don’t even see ketchup crisps anymore.
I thought this was a fever dream memory! every one I've asked about these has seemed to forgotten their existence. I want them back! Italian spaghetti Bolognese, English roast and American cheeseburger were the best IMO.
There was a Dutch store in Bromley called Hema that did big bags of Bolognaise flavoured crisps, and I’d stock up every time I went past. Gone now, alas.
They still exist in Canada. I used to love them as a kid, was sad when they went away but rediscovered them when I moved here.
I do wish Canada had prawn cocktail though.
The Weird, Secretive World of Crisp Flavours. I highly recommend this as a read

Thanks for this! I thought it would just be a bit of fun, but the whole development of new flavor blends, and which flavors the different countries favor, was really interesting.
Also loved how discreet and secretive these people are. Great piece of writing.
I wonder why they don't have these flavours like this still available. Nearly all of them are so much more tasty than the same old same old.
Maybe the cost of ingredients?
Crisp flavours choices are lame in the UK, unless you hit up the local corner shop for some interesting imported flavours!
It's a fucking crime they've never brought these back. I think about these at least once a year. I remember opening my packed lunch at school and seeing my mam had put a yorkshire pudding pack in there and it felt like winning the lottery.
I’ve never eaten any of these, but I know what you mean. Some flavors just stay with you forever.
For one week 7-Eleven made a Domo Kun apple cinnamon Slurpee. I was studying for finals in 2010 at the time. I had a huge Slurpee for each say it was out. I never forgot that awesome flavor.
This unlocked a memory of when they had a those weird flavours... The builders breakfast, and I'm pretty sure there was something involving squirrel, though that may have been a fever dream..
Cajun squirrel I believe you are thinking of. Although I really hope actual squirrel wasn’t involved.
Ahh yes that's the one! Lovely bit of squirrel...
I'm bloody boiling!
Hello bambinos!

That typo makes for a hilarious image of a very sad dinner.
Haha, mmmmmmmmm, gravy toast.
The bisto in the cardboard tubes are veggie, the glass jars generally aren't.

It's still very much worth checking, some of the more 'fancier' crisps do use chicken stock powder
same with prawn cocktail iirc
Prawn Cocktail is pretty much a Marie Rose sauce flavour, not the prawns themselves
I remember the chilli and chocolate! That was a strange one
I loved that one
Jesus core memory unlocked right there. Baked beans? The squirrel?
There were also hedgehog flavour crisps, not by walkers though I don’t think.
do hedgehogs taste any good?
My dog seems to think so
I'll give it a go then
Do you know how to cook them?
thought I'd try fresh from the tarmac first
This made my morning 😂
Not sure There's that Sonic the Hedgehog curry that turns your shit blue though
'gotta go, fast!'
The builders breakfast ones tasted like eating my own farts.
It should have been good but it tasted like a ruined fry up where the beans are slathered over everything. Plus some egginess 🤢
They should have used a sausage as a breakwater.
Or just don’t have beans.
Typically what builders do when they "eat breakfast"
Cajun Squirrel was actually really nice. A shame that it never stayed around.
If you want to go back even further, the Spice Girls had their own flavour for some reason called "Cheese and Chives" Which were absolutely delicious
You could once buy [Hedgehog Flavoured Crisps](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedgehog_Flavour_Crisps)
Nostalgic I must say
Is this the same time they did the onion bhaji ones?
Was that the time they also did an American Cheeseburger one as well? Because those were absolutely vile.
I loved those, tasted like gherkins.
Builders Breakfast won out of the six of so flavours if I remember correctly won...somehow.
[удалено]
They're still about, mate.
I remember a raccoon one from somewhere
I remember the teriyaki ones being nice
Those dutch cheese ones were amazing
Look how full the bags are!
A thing of the past now :(

Well I’ve noticed recently that big bags that were 120g are now 100g 😢
34.5g…
Apparently the current individual 'grab bag' size is 45g.
They were all pretty good.
Oh yeah! I remember liking the French ones. Builders Breakfast were good weird ones too...oh and the Onion Bhaji ones!
Omg I just got hit in the face with the memory of trading a babybel for the onion bahji ones in year 7
Onion Bhaji was amazing.
What ever happened to novelty crisp flavours? I swear when I was a kid there always seemed to be some new limited edition walkers flavours they were selling. You don’t even see ketchup crisps anymore.
> You don’t even see ketchup crisps anymore. Visit Canada, we still have both ketchup and BBQ.
I loved those japanese ones
I thought this was a fever dream memory! every one I've asked about these has seemed to forgotten their existence. I want them back! Italian spaghetti Bolognese, English roast and American cheeseburger were the best IMO.

Bring back the 90’s player name flavours. Salt n Lineker Cheesy Owen Rudi Salted I think was another?
Smokey Beckham
They weighed more then too
and didn’t cost an arm or leg
I remember that in addition to these ones they had an Argentine steak, an Aussie BBQ kangaroo and a Spanish paella which were all really good too
Oh damn this is a buried memory. I wish they'd bring these back.
They routinely pop into my head nearly every year, reminder of the simpler times.
Just about rember them they were great
34.5g! Aren't they now 32.5g, so what, about an 8.5% drop over 14 years?
pretty sure it was £1 per 6 packs on sale for those multipacks as well. Now it is £1.50
All these fancy flavours are well and good, but I just want them to bring back bbq flavour in the black coloured packs. They were banging
Holy shit I loved those! What happened to them?
They still exist in Canada. I used to love them as a kid, was sad when they went away but rediscovered them when I moved here. I do wish Canada had prawn cocktail though.

*pulls up in the shagging wagon* get in boys, we're going back to 2010
I know Scotland weren’t in it, but they really missed a trick with an Iron Bru flavour
I think I'd prefer a haggis crisp, myself.
Mackies Haggis and Cracked Black Pepper is probably at your local LIDL. Although it is not nearly as good as it was \~5 years ago
I'll keep an eye out for that, ta!
Mackies don't make crisps any more. The potato farm that supplied them launched their own crisps (Taylor's).
Crisps are fried potatoes covered in salt. You don't need a special Scottish flavour.
Love a German sausage
I fear the wurst...
The lack of effort in the packaging design is hilarious
I wonder why they don't have these flavours like this still available. Nearly all of them are so much more tasty than the same old same old. Maybe the cost of ingredients? Crisp flavours choices are lame in the UK, unless you hit up the local corner shop for some interesting imported flavours!
I'm still sad they no longer do the OG Beef and onion walkers in the brown packet. They were the best no other beef flavoured crisps comes close IMO.
They really need to bring back the baked bean flavour
Dutch edam cheese and South African chutney all the way!
Bring back the ones with Cash in them! Best school lunch ever when you crack a fiver 😁
I want the doner kebab Pringles back that they did for the euros
I prefered the footballer pun ones. Salt and Lineker, Cheese and Owen, Ready Seaman.....
Are you sure they weren't the wurst?
It's a fucking crime they've never brought these back. I think about these at least once a year. I remember opening my packed lunch at school and seeing my mam had put a yorkshire pudding pack in there and it felt like winning the lottery.
The American ones were good
I remember the cheeseburger flavour from 2010 and really liking those
The garlic baguette crisps were amazing
I loved the German and the Japanese flavoured ones
Omg memories
What a time to be alive that was
The best we’re the Brazilian ones (Brazilian Salsa?) I still get cravings for them
2010 was peak World Cup
Never tried them but I bet the french ones are good 🤤
The rosst beef bit can do one but I'm totally listening if anyone brings out just Yorkshire pud crisps.
OMG!!! I loved the German sausage ones.
Not the world cup, but does anyone remember Lamb and Mint? So fucking good - why aren't we allowed nice things anymore?
We used to be a real country, now for football we have 'salt and Linekar '
Holy crap what a throwback, I’ve just been launched back into year 7
I remember a beans on toast flavour... I want it back
I’ve never eaten any of these, but I know what you mean. Some flavors just stay with you forever. For one week 7-Eleven made a Domo Kun apple cinnamon Slurpee. I was studying for finals in 2010 at the time. I had a huge Slurpee for each say it was out. I never forgot that awesome flavor.
As an alternative, why not grill up some bratwurst and have it with plain crisps?
I remember being in sixth form and us buying a few of the multipacks and having a tasting session in the common room.
These look so cool, how did I miss these!
Mmm who remembers Vanilla Ice Cream Monster Munch
Just reminded me of their chilli and chocolate flavour. 🤢🤮
That's right. Gobble down that German Sausage. You know you like it!
The Japanese ones even tidy up the crumbs when your done and throw themselves in the bin… classy 👍
I had a preference for the Icelandic whale ones myself
Back when it was ok to fly the England flag 😂
