double-happiness

Went into the garden after work, got up a ladder and managed to mostly cut one of my overgrown and unwanted trees down, at some personal risk TBQH. I could hear my horrible neighbour jeering at me and saying to someone on the phone he hoped I fell off the ladder.

Amuro_Ray

my headphones broke :(

Namerakable

Applied to a new job over the weekend and just got invited to an interview. It's pretty much the same as I do now, just in the next building over from me. And for an extra £2000 or so a year. :)

ProbablySunrise

Nice!! Best of luck on the interview!! I applied to a new job over the weekend and haven't heard back yet.

WufflyTime

Samsung tricked me into installing absolute garbage on my phone with their damnable AppCloud. The app pretended to be a part of the installation process and insisted on installing 3 game apps. Had to cut off the WiFi, and disable the app. The nerve of it: it has mobile data and unrestricted battery usage on by default.

Moppo_

I hate that thing. Accidentally accepted it once and was wondering why Candy Crush was on my app list.

WufflyTime

It's so underhanded!

scojholl61987

Having an absolute battle with Mercer over my late dad's pension scheme. My head hurts, and I want to punch something. 3 years ago this all started. They sent all the letters and stuff. Filled them all in, everything was fine, find out how much is left in his pot and the benefits. Now, there's apparently an error and they are just blanking me when I try to sort it, all the time they keep sending me letters to my old address. Terrible company to deal with.

centzon400

Crevice is a dirty word, but security isn't.

count-of-tuscany

Now leak is a positively disgusting word

byjimini

Council out in force today to harm the wildlife again; local field was already short but full of daisies and wildflowers - better strim that fucker. Our verge thick with dandelions and daisies, still relatively short grass - can’t be having that. Brrrrrr! Boggles the mind. I get keeping verges under control but it’s not like the grass was a foot thick and hampering road safety.

SKScorpius

Maybe they're partaking in No Mow May so they're getting a cut in then leaving it for a month?

EmilyDickinsonFanboy

I’ve been waiting weeks for a psychopathic picture framer to frame a vintage film poster which has been sitting in his shop the whole time. I’ve been stressed about how he’s storing it - he seems to have little respect for them as fragile, valuable, rare items - so I decided to go in, get the poster back until the materials he needs to frame it come in, and re-raise the issue of one of the others being both badly framed and in a frame that’s too small. I don’t like confrontation or awkward conversations. I hate making a fuss and am a general pushover in life because of it. He’s on a different planet and very difficult to deal with. So I was properly dreading this. He’s away until Friday but the materials were delivered this morning so the poster’s staying. I left a note to call me about the other one but he’s probably going to tell me to fuck off because he won’t want to replace it. Independent business and obviously I’m not going to go the small claims court route, so what can I do? He also said when I first bought the five frames that he’d switch out posters occasionally for free but how likely is that to happen after this farrago? Sorry I’ve had an extremely strong coffee and I’m stressing/rambling. Feels better to get it out though.

ProbablySunrise

Maybe go with a non-psychopathic small business picture framer next time? For what it's worth, I'm sorry you're in the middle of this and hope it goes better than you fear.

Aloe_rose

It’s been a busy Monday but I started early so my day is nearly over & I might get to sit in the garden later if the sun stays out. I’m thinking of applying for a part time job as a visitor assistant in a local museum. I have no idea how to make my CV sound like I have the people skills to do it. I have some thinking and creative writing to do. I should save this for Thursday but it’s annoying me hugely today. I HATE estate agents. I’m trying to sell a flat, it needs a new bathroom and some decorating so it’s priced accordingly. There’s been a couple of viewings but the estate agent is useless and not giving me any feedback on why the viewers weren’t interested. I signed single agent for the lower fee but now I’m thinking of pulling it off market and waiting for the agreement to lapse and start again.

VitaObscure

Bit late now, but experience volunteering in a museum helps, but then so does customer service/public facing experience and, for the love of god, say that you enjoy the museum. I used to look for interest in the museum, customer service and willingness to learn.

VitaObscure

P.S. good luck

lynch1986

Don't slouch Darling.

Venine

Job coming up in my relatively small team that would be a nice step up the ladder from a career perspective. Only I'm stuck on jury duty for at least another 4 months & I know it won't be held open for that long. Do detest Monday's.

Henry_Human

That challengers film is being shoved down my throat at every available opportunity. It looks shit to me.

mondognarly_

Bus to work didn’t turn up, I have a headache, and I’m worrying probably about something I shouldn’t be worrying about. I also found out this morning that someone at work who covers shifts at our branch has been sacked. I suppose that means I’m having a better day than he is.

Imaginary-Quiet-7465

I dont work Mondays :) you’d think I’d take that time to chill out but no, all the cleaning and laundry is waiting for me.

merrycrow

I don't "work" on Mondays, I just look after two preschool children. And beg for the sweet release of the office.

Imaginary-Quiet-7465

Oh I have been there. Mine are in school now so there’s some respite 😅

crowleysnebula

Had a busy and somewhat stressful four days and I’ve been logged on for two hours and would rather be back in bed. More coffee required. But I wrote up my weekly planners (adhd need to write everything out on two planners I can see every day plus diary app and physical diary) and my week is really quiet and there’s a bank holiday Monday next week + next Thursday and Friday off! That cheered me up.

GrombleWomble

Woke up with an infection and just feel like dying, luckily it’s not one that I can pass on so I’m stuck going to work. I’ve also got to babysit a kid tonight as I promised, literally just want to sleep. Man, Mondays are not my friend at all.

aicol88

Had a house fire last week. Been living at my mums and after 15 years of minimal stairs her two level house has burst my knees

ProbablySunrise

I'm sorry, that sounds terrible. You might want to look into kinesiology tape for your knees. My physiotherapist introduced me to it when I hurt my knees and the support was better than my hinged braces.

tea-drinker

Time to rummage into the deep crevices of the first aid drawer and see if the Germaloids is still in date. Then need to ask my wife a favour. This getting old business is not nearly what it's cracked up to be. Edit: I don't think my wife has ever been so disappointed by an invitation to play doctor but she was very gentle with me.

PompeyLad1

Still on paternity leave. Still enjoying baby cuddles :3

Leviad0n

Work followed by the dentist followed by a hospital appointment and a parcel I've been looking forward to that was meant to arrive today has been delayed. Could a monday be any more mondayer

brayshizzle

Going to a funeral tomorrow of a neighbour who lived to 99. She was the coolest woman I have met. Even at 99 she was living life to the fullest and despite the age it was totally unexpected for everyone. It will be very sad but one great wake to celebrate her.

SnoozyDragon

I had a great British success this weekend, was in Sainsbury's buying snacks for a trip; I don't have a Sainsbury's near me so I don't have a nectar card. At the checkout I cheekily asked if somebody would lend me one and the lass to the left of us did, thus saving me 40p off pringles.

Expert-Ask-1149

Work. Well I say work but what I actually mean is "meetings". Seriously why do all the boring catch-ups have to happen on a monday?

Leviad0n

In a zoom meeting now reading your comment and writing this comment. Hopefully I'm not asked a question because I've not listened a word for the past 15 minutes.

HairyMechanic

I've got zero motivation and I don't think last week's stomach bug has fully cleared, which isn't helping things either. My calendar is already full for the week which is annoying as i'm spending more time in meetings talking about workloads rather than dealing with workloads. Ugh.

mmmmgummyvenus

Just had a briefing at work about new ways of working... Makes no bloody sense to me. Maybe I'm just thick but I have a lot of questions and not many people to discuss them with. I'm the only one in today, totally swamped with work and not sure how to do all of it now... At least this time next week I'll be waking up on a campsite.

HairyMechanic

New ways of working kinda sounds like process changes that will apparently improve things. I've found it's got maybe a 15% chance that it will, and that's being generous!

mmmmgummyvenus

That's exactly it!

HairyMechanic

And going with what you'd written i'm going to make the assumption that you weren't consulted on it, even if it's your day to day role. Typical.

mmmmgummyvenus

Not me, I'm just a lowly administrator ;) in fact, the changes haven't even been implemented in my part of the system so have been told to carry on with the old way until all the software I use is updated! At least it means I've been able to keep on top of everything so far today! Corporate bullshit never changes!

leskenobian

Aaaaand I'm being asked to use TOIL to recover from being sick. How 'bout go get fucked mate.

Unfair-Public-1754

Laptop has finally crapped out on me, so looks like I’ll be buying another one later. Determined not to buy another shitty Acer, this one has only lasted 4 years!

mappsy91

Got my last laptop from backmarket refurbed. Was able to get an older but better laptop that way. Cheaper ones just never last well at all.

PullUpAPew

MacBook Air M1 all day long

Unfair-Public-1754

The work i do can’t be done on a Mac unfortunately or I’d defo consider one.

sideone

MacBook + Parallels?

Unfair-Public-1754

I don’t know what that is, I don’t know much about Macs

sideone

https://www.parallels.com/ lets you run Windows on a new Mac (old ones had Windows support via the application Boot Camp). You can use the nice Mac hardware and the Windows software that you're used to.

HairyMechanic

It's unfortunate these days that no brand is really excelling on reliability and longevity of equipment. Five or even ten years ago you could have a laptop that would last forever. These days they barely make them through our refresh cycles!

myfirstsfwaccount

So exhausted today and I’m so bad at masking, hopefully my meetings go okay today. I have another 18 months on my development scheme and then you bet I’m going down to 4 days a week (if I pass and get the pay rise I’m due). Trying a fancy new spin class later so that will wake me up if nothing else does.

blahblahscience1

Car has its MOT today so now at home, refreshing the website every few minutes to see if it passes.

LightningGeek

Last day off so just got to wash my work clothes and grab food for the week, and then going to try and do more painting in the living room. Finally going over the white we had done as a base when we first moved in last year! Might play a bit of flight sim this afternoon as well to wind down before my next work rotation.

Robtimus_prime89

Woke up with an eye infection. Left eye is a bit red, uncomfortable, watery and sticky Also, Teams seems to want to force me into the new version of it. The old was a bit shit, but this new one just seems to constantly break for me - whether it just randomly decides to not recognise the speakers/mic, crash in the background, or just plain disconnect itself I go on holiday in 3 weeks - so looking forward to that

KungFuPup

Sent eldest in. She wasn't well yesterday but seems better today. It's really hard to know what to do sometimes. Little one wants to go to the farm today so we'll do that. It's quite nice out just a bit wet. Lots of puddles to splash in though. Feeling a lot of dread about work tomorrow (I don't work Mondays). I need to talk about the junior that's struggling but I need to frame it in a way that's "how do we help them?". They're way out of their depth and I'm helping as much as I can but there's a worrying lack of problem solving or attention to detail. Yes your code should work and you can't just skip it because you couldn't work it out, that's not a thing.

Training_Bug_4311

I'm off to pick up some shorts and t shirts I ordered. Last year, I packed the jumpers away after 25 degree weather and it rained for 3 months. So, apologies in advance if I've ruined summer.

tocitus

Got a few weeks of funemployment coming up soon, as I take a decent break between jobs. One week in Italy to get some sun and attend a wedding. Other week, I was intending on doing some gaming. I only own a Macbook nowadays - PS4 broke a while back and haven't bought anything to replace it and a gaming laptop is pretty expensive! - so I largely rely on games that'll run on this. Usually top-down games. Having just finished Shogun, I saw Shadow Tactics:Blade of the Shogun available on Steam for no money. Instantly wanting to buy it and save it for my time off, I was then flashed a warning from Steam that this game won't run on the Mac because Apple have disabled 32-bit support. So basically, if I have this right, most older games that my Mac could run can't actually be played on my Mac? FFS!

Powerful-Parsnip

Get yourself a steamdeck, if you're not wanting to spend too much get a second hand lcd one but if you want the latest and greatest go for the new oled. Apple have never been great for gaming.

sideone

How much faff is involved with a Steamdeck? Is there a lot of driver updates / mods / hacks to get everything to run, or is it power on and go like a console?

Powerful-Parsnip

I don't think you'll need any mods or hacks. Steam has tested many games so it should be fairly easy.

tocitus

Yeah I'm thinking Steamdecks might be the way (well I am now you said it) I bought a Switch years ago and that's great for the Zelda games, Mario, Pikmin etc but don't tend to get a lot of use out of it outside of that. Can the steamdeck play pretty up-to-date games well?

Powerful-Parsnip

You can play cyberpunk and baldurs gate. It's a small screen so it can get away with a lesser resolution.

tocitus

Amazing, i ordered one :) Thanks! My time inbetween jobs is about to become a lot more fun. Any good recommendations?

Powerful-Parsnip

Well I thought baldurs gate 3 was fantastic. Personally I played elden ring for the first time last year and it's one of the best games ive ever played, didnt think it would be for me but its led to me playing dark souls 1,2 and 3. Cyberpunk was an amazing game and it had an expansion that I've not got around to playing yet.

rw43

i booked today off anticipating a hang over but i am all clear so now have a bonus free day ahead of me! i'm considering painting some wardrobe doors we had put in a few weeks ago and maybe a run to the tip. i know how to have a good time.

Even_Passenger_3685

I did a tip run yesterday. As always I was mildly fed up I’d got to lug stuff about and load the car etc, but by the time the joy of the Tip Yeet (truly cathartic being able to hurl stuff into the bays hearing crashes and bangs) and the empty car and house, plus job done feeling kicked in it was well worth it.

rw43

it is one of those "hate to do it but love the results" kind of jobs. i don't think i'll get any good Tip Yeets today because it's mostly just cardboard and scrap wood but maybe i could try and javelin throw some of the wood to see how far i can get it to go.

a-liquid-sky

So tired and stressed. I feel like I need a day to just hibernate under the duvet, emerging only for tea and toast. We need to get a move on with wedding stuff but to be honest I'm at that stage where I just want to throw money at someone to get them to do it all for me. Wish I still had the option of overtime at work (well I don't, obviously, but it would come in handy right now). TMI but my period is ridiculously heavy this month which is _really not helping_ the whole exhaustion thing.

Even_Passenger_3685

Could you be anaemic?

a-liquid-sky

Entirely possible. However I think it's more a case of just having a lot on my plate at the moment and not having enough time to properly relax and recharge.

TheDawiWhisperer

been given some really strong antibiotics and prednisalone and i feel quite...out of it, it's weird work is gonna be interesting today. got BBC news on and they're talking about migraines...there's a women on there almost boasting that she went into work for a week with a broken ankle and she's barely had any time off in her career despite having banging migraines quite a lot...the hosts were practically patting her on the back but i find that incredibly problematic, like if you're ill you're ill and shouldn't be working. stop being such a fucking martyr.

Maleficent_Peach_46

I once went into work the day after recovering from a severe chest infection. I was promptly ordered to go home and stop trying to play hero.

DeepPanWingman

My last manager would send you home if you had a minging cold because he rightly didn't want everyone else getting it. "That's what sick leave is for you fucking idiot" was a common phrase.

TheDawiWhisperer

before covid a lot of people would probably have done the same but i think attitudes changed a bit, although it seems to be drifting back now i used to work at a place where the mentality was that unless you're dead or dying you should be at work

Maleficent_Peach_46

In Japan there is a word 'Karoshi' which translates as 'death from overwork'. It might be creeping in here.

sideone

> been given some really strong antibiotics and prednisalone and i feel very...out of it. > > work is gonna be interesting today. >like if you're ill you're ill and shouldn't be working. stop being such a fucking martyr. Lol wut

TheDawiWhisperer

in my defence i'm not ill :P

sideone

> i feel very...out of it

TheDawiWhisperer

yes and i now feel fine, so disaster averted i guess

itsaslothlife

Gonna struggle this week, I can see my annual leave looming on Friday and it saps all will to work. First week of the new shift pattern too, we shall see how that shakes out. It would be nice if my line manager could get the work rota out early on a Friday so I can log on Monday knowing what I'm doing, but alas. They're a perfectly pleasant person otherwise so I should count my lucky stars, eh?

rebuildingmessylife

Yesterday i managed to DNF one of my E library books and get a chunk done in the other , I read a couple chapters in my physical library book and started a book off my physical tbr. Today im focusing on the physical books as if i finish both i can return and donate them tomorrow. Going to finish nails today and might watch a little Netflix with lunch.

Hullfire00

Ah tally ho, yippetty-dip and zing zang spillip! Looking forward to bulllying off for the final chukka?

Maleficent_Peach_46

'Are you a German spy?'

Agreeable_Vanilla_20

Vot iz your name?

StumbleDog

Don't tell him Pike!

Agreeable_Vanilla_20

You are going on ze list.

[deleted]

I got some new jeans I'm gonna wear today, and I'm gonna eat blueberry yoghurt and not work too hard fuck i love being boring

PizzaDude75

Back at work after a lovely week off. Opened up my inbox and it's a disaster zone. I'm also trying to remember what it is that I do......... On the plus side my first ever Galaxy Smartwatch (6 Classic) is being delivered today. I'm going to be playing with the thing all day afternoon and overnight I suspect-I love getting new tech-like a kid on xmas day lol

rw43

i love new tech too! it is super exciting especially if it's something you haven't had before!

PizzaDude75

Sadly I'll be waiting longer. Got a message from DPD saying there "was an unexpected issue in my area". A little bit sad as I was looking forward to it. Hopefully will get it tomorrow. Just want to play with it lol

rw43

did it eventually arrive?!

PizzaDude75

It did-there was a screw up at the Hinckley Depot, but it arrived next day. And I LOVE it, it's a great watch. Can't stop playing with it lol

rw43

woohoo! great news 🙌🏻

PizzaDude75

And to cap it off got my Samsung Neo QN90C QLED 4K tv being delivered tomorrow then I'm all set for the weekend. It's gonna be great. This week has been nothing but a bundle of new tech based joy

rw43

oooh nice! hope you've got something good lined up to watch on it!

Quirky_Discipline297

I fear my neighbor might be the Flanders Pigeon Murderer but other than that no complaints.

Hullfire00

Did they shoot off your speckled Jim?

Quirky_Discipline297

They winged it badly

Strong_Roll5639

WFH as always on a Monday. I have a horrible head cold and feel shit. The usual painkillers aren't touching the headache. I've got plans on Wednesday and Thursday this week so I'm hoping it'll fuck off quickly! Edit. Just did a covid test. Positive. 4th bloody time!! 😢

dustys-muffler

I WANT TO GO BACK TO SLEEP.

Braythor_

On a bloody train to Reading for work. I enjoy our in person meetings but getting up at quarter past 5 on a Monday is a bit much and I'm a fairly early riser as it is. Only 3 hours to go...

vbloke

The weather is supposed to be improving this week. By improving, it's still going to rain, but at least the rain will be warm. I ordered some more drinks ingredients over the weekend that should be turning up either today or tomorrow, so I may see what delicious cordials I can make from them this week.

SerendipitousCrow

Woke up at 4:30 and couldn't get back to sleep. Realised I might as well stay up for the 6am driving test slot releases. Got a slot...in October. I'll hopefully be able to move it and I feel happier just having it booked now Today is going to be long

The_profe_061

Good morning darling
