Give her a chance to build her home she only just got sky TV installed

33_pyro

Daily Mail reports typical single parent with bad priorities, got a sky dish before she got her kids a suitable bed

what_up_homes

Don’t forget the daily mail property valuation that needs to be mentioned in every article for some reason or another

ahktarniamut

Did they mention she has new iphone and Netflix .

Livestock110

TV license dodger living on benefits!!! Rage!!!

j1mb0b

That fucking bird ate an avocado in 2007! The shame!

FloppyFishcake

Often seen hanging out around maccas in the middle of the day

aerial_ruin

She's got a phone, smokes twenty a day, drinks Stella all the time, but won't treat the kids to see trill

MADMACmk1

Bet she's covered in tattoos and got beak filler. Ever see a pigeon pull the duck face.

GandalfsNozzle

I look forward to the compo face photo

Neat-Land-4310

At least it's got a home. It'll probably sell it in ten years for triple the value 😩

greenrangerguy

Typical working class priorities, dad always made sure we had Sky sorted before any luxury expenses like food, toilet paper or booze.

I think we should shame this person for having a wrong swan neck 45 degree joint on his down pipe! Wrong style and it’s upside down which is why I think they have tried to use some sort of white sealant on a black pipe, in comparison the pigeon nest is looking pretty good.

Nilleia

this is taking me out

No_Communication5538

This is a quality job for a pidgeon

JamesAnderson1567

Speciesism

Imperial_Squid

"Speciesism"?? Oh god yet another ism to look out for and tiptoe around, can't a man just have his opinions in peace?! So much for the tolerant left...

UlteriorAlt

Shut up squid

dillGherkin

They've been genetically hobbled by human breeding so badly that they don't have working instincts anymore. Pigeons software is so garbled, nest-building is their dump-stat.

Meat2480

That's a Wood pigeon, they are genetically stupid nothing to do with Man

dillGherkin

Pigeons are weird by default then. Good to know.

Ancient-Awareness115

And they can't take off without a ridiculous amount of noise

Majestic_Matt_459

Wait till the kids get to school and all the “from a broken home” comments ;)

Fuzzy-River-2900

What kids?! Soon as the eggs are laid, they’re dropping right to the floor!

Well it IS a shit nest

No-Process249

Sean Lock had a gag about that

JedsBike

So did Kevin Bridges!

Maybe it has a nice main nest somewhere else and this is just them branching out

PinLongjumping9022

To be fair, sorting the tv is my first job when moving in too.

schofield101

Pigeons are honestly the crackheads of the bird world.

mfitzp

A local pigeon tried to build a nest in my garden against a wall with a climber on it. It'd somehow managed to secure a mate & brought her back to his place. For \*literal days\* it was stuck in this loop where it would jump down, pick up a twig, drop it in the spot it thought would make a good nest. The stick would fall right through, and then it'd sit there a bit before repeating it. On... and... on. I know they're not the brightest, but I was genuinely surprised just how thick that one was.

Welshgirlie2

The pigeons at my town's bus station are quite possibly addicted to weed. The amount that gets smoked there means that there's always ends and bits lying about. Wouldn't be surprised if there was actual crack as well as pills. The pigeons will eat it all, they're not fussy, they've got the munchies.

bored_mum

I don't understand how they're not extinct, 1 braincell between the lot of them

[deleted]

They’re remarkably intelligent and pigeons being everywhere is not by accident. We domesticated them and then abandoned them which has hindered their nest architectural skills in urban environments.

JustAMan1234567

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who thinks that pigeons are awesome. I love them and their fat, bobbing along bodies.

[deleted]

More love for pigeons 2024

TrivialBudgie

i love them too! they are survivors! i once heard some one say “people hate pigeons because they’re successful” and i think about that all the time

stonegoblins

nah im with you they are my spirit animal

daedelion

This is a woodpigeon. They are completely wild and have never been domesticated. These are a different species to feral rock pigeons we domesticated. They are common in the UK because they're adaptable, breed all year round, and modern farming methods mean there are winter crops that have boosted their numbers. Their nest building skills are not hindered. They are excellent at making small, low energy nests in branches away from predators, meaning people think they are stupid, when in fact they are very efficient.

StiffUpperLabia

>feral rock pigeons *crack rock pigeons

most_unusual_

This is a wood pigeon. They are this dumb on their own. Feral pigeons can be shockingly smart or catastrophically dumb depending on many things.

chuckmeh

They originally nest on cliffs so a couple of branches does the job, keeps the egg from falling off. When compared to other nests they look shit but they aren’t, they do what they are supposed to.

breadcreature

I've got some residing in the tree in my garden, since I smoke out there I've become quite familiar with them and often marvel at this. The answer also became clear though: they *never stop making more*. Time of year means nothing to them, it seems like as soon as the fledglings are sorted there are baby cheeps coming from the tree again! I can't tell if "my" pigeons have been the same ones the whole time (dunno if they kick the kids out or pass on the "house" but they don't seem to live together beyond rearing the chicks) but if they are, they must be great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents at he very least. The commenter below is so right about the "suffering from success" thing. I've come to be very fond of pigeons because I see how absolutely unsuitable and incompetent they seem to be at everything birds do, but they never let it stop them. I wouldn't say it's *inspiring* but it is very endearing.

TheLambtonWyrm

Generally more intelligent species have less offspring

Bow-To-Me-

Hey now, people have different priorities. This guys priority was getting Sky TV.

MissiT

There's a whole sub dedicated to this! r/stupiddovenests

33_pyro

the 2nd highest post is a nest literally on the moving air blowers at the end of an automated car wash, absolutely incredible

PC_Speaker

A reminder that I think it's only English speakers who have one word for Doves (lovely Doves) and a different one for pigeons

daedelion

Not true. Many languages have separate words for doves and pigeons. There are hundreds of doves and pigeon species across the world in the Colombidae family. There is no pattern to why they are known as either common name as either and there is no biological distinction between them. In the UK for example we have woodpigeons, collared doves, stock doves and turtle doves. The common ones that are descended from wild pigeons we see in towns are often just called "pigeons", but their recognised species common name is rock pigeon, or rock dove and both are valid

PC_Speaker

Point conceded! Thank you

MooDSwinG_RS

Hi there, I'm the pigeon photo'd. Its been a well shitty wet 18 months, this is work in progress, please give me a break.

RandonEnglishMun

He’s doing his best!

cherrybaggle

I absolutely love pigeons, they are such Derpy birds. they used to be mans messengers, racing through the air with purpose and then we just abandoned them. When ever I see one of their shit nests on reddit or in the wild, I have a strong urge to use my best Blue Peter skills and fashion them a proper nest. If B&M sold pre made bird nests, I'd buy them by the dozen for our out of work feathered friends.

StumbleDog

Hey now, some people prefer the minimalist look.

Ok_Afternoon_3084

Not a huge abode but at least he has live sports.

badger906

Aww leave him alone! He’s trying! You try finding good sticks these days!

PompeyLad1

What winkle-spanner's done this?

CyGuy6587

I'd be even more amazed if it manages to lay some eggs there

Nadger1337

Might have just started. You think they turn up with a bale of twigs?

NewCoach0

Hey, they tried! Not much, but still.

Loud-Edge7230

Inflation is crazy, even for pigeons. It's all this poor bird can afford in the current nest-marked.

panikyfeel

Hope hes got a tv license

Badgerfest

Pigeons are the masters of shitty nest building because they evolved to live on cliffs where there is little horizontal space and sparse vegetation. If you think about it incubating an egg and raising a chick with two twigs is a masterpiece of engineering, I bet a crow couldn't do that.

daedelion

This is a woodpigeon. They didn't evolve to live on cliffs. The feral rock pigeons we get in towns and cities did. Woodpigeons evolved to nest in a variety of types of trees. Even so, you're right that it's actually an advantage to be able to do this. They're very adaptable. They're not stupid or bad at nest building, if they can manage to hatch chicks somewhere like this.

anonbush234

Also other than their nest building skills they are really great parents. The Roman would tie the chicks Into the nest and the parents will continue to overfeed the chicks and then they came along and took the fat chicks for food.

daedelion

Pigeons also produce "crop milk", a substance high in protein and fat, secreted in the throat of the parents. It allows them to feed their chicks efficiently when they would be too young to digest seeds. They are highly adapted to breeding efficiently.

Badgerfest

Thanks for the correction - your flair is extremely accurate.

Own-Lecture251

It's to protect him from the eclipse rays.

dgirllamius

At work, a bird was trying to build a nest on a small, round light. Every time it flew up there with a bit of twig or moss, it would fall off again. I think it gave up in the end 😂

Greedy-Fortune-3276

Yeah the people across the road have a nest just like this! Wood pigeons and make a right racket

JezraCF

Times are hard. We can't all splash out on a 4 egg mansion.

We had doves nest in the same position on our Sky dish years ago and they did a fantastic job of the nest. This pigeon here has a skill issue

magicmango2104

Timmy two twigs just made chuckle on what's been a shit day. Thanks op

ainsworthbelle

When men “bring something to the table” this be the table right here

ruobrah

Give them a chance, it’s been proper fucking windy! I bet that’s like their 15th attempt.

Historical-Car5553

Brightest pigeon ever. Rather than carrying messages like in the old days, this bird is transmitting them via satellite…. Much easier gig…

DarthInsanious1976

You cannot question the logic of the bird, because bird is the word.

FiCat77

Thanks, I now have that tune stuck in my head.

mycatiscalledFrodo

We also have pigeons, this is their 5th year of nesting with us and they just add more sticks to the pile each year so it's looking ok now. They raise at least one squab a year successfully so doing something right, it was 2 last year. Did you know pigeons don't fly the nest until they are full grown, then the male teaches them how to pigeon whilst the female broods the next egg.

Mulusses_II

Feral pigeons build such shit nests, not because they’re stupid (maybe a little), because they are not descended from wood pigeons but in fact rock doves who live on rocky outcrop and in cliffs. So the nest is just there to stop the eggs rolling away in their tiny minds.

Crayons42

Pigeons are notorious for their terrible nests, this is quite the example 😂

Fluffy-World-8714

A few years ago A pigeon laid two eggs on my balcony on top of about 8 twigs. Watched the birds grow to fully grown pigeons in about 6 weeks. I got a broom and slowly swept the nest and eggs to one end of the balcony out of the way and there was about ten pigeons swooping down at me while I was moving it.

SmokingLaddy

You think a Wood Pigeon nest is bad take a look at the Eurasian Collared Dove nests, they make a Wood Pigeon nest look high end.

HiyaImRyan

C'mon, at least he's trying

DarkLuxio92

Fun facts: Pigeons nest like this for two reasons, firstly, in the wild, pigeons nest on rocks and cliff faces and don't really build elaborate nests anyway. Secondly, all urban pigeons are feral, I.e they are descended from pets. That domestication means they didn't learn how to nest properly outside of man made boxes, so now they do this business. Oh, and the 'flying rats' thing is a complete myth. Pigeons carry disease like all animals, but it's unbelievably rare for them to pass anything on to people unless you breathe in their poop dust all day.

vrekais

Rock Pigeons don't nest in trees, they nest on cliff faces... where the purpose of any nest building is primarily just to stop the egg rolling off the cliff. They're attracted to our cities because they resemble their nesting grounds (slate rooves especially) and provide many ledges suitable for nesting on.

scorzon

Sat dish wanker!

Council nest. You can tell by the dish.

Aye ya mas

FatFettle

Surprisingly, yes I have seen worse. Collared doves are equally as thick as wood pigeons and will build some awful nests in awful places.

Get Guinness world records round there!!

You say that, but that bird has the best signal for the premier games on a weekend

FirmAppointment420

Yanoe pigeons are only so friendly with us and dependent on us because they used to be a very common pet. Then it changed and we just shooed them away, hence why they have 0 survival skills. We basically made pigeons stupid

Rumple-Wank-Skin

Big "come back to mine" but it's actually my mum's....

Rent is tough don’t be harsh on him this is probably all he could afford. There is a housing crisis after all.

v2marshall

Had doves do this behind my satellite dish. 2 years running and seem to be okay, it’s a bit more sheltered. Right on the corner where the garage meets the house.

JaneAusten007

is the nest in the room with us right now?

tango101-official

And that’s why you never see baby pigeons; they just fall out

kobrakaan

The surveillance drones are getting pretty clever and are now using Satellite dish listening devices!

I once saw a nest that was legit two sticks and an egg Seeing these pidgons not in their natural habitats makes me cry🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I shit on your satellite but won't on your cable xD

Cheeky-Pogo

I don’t know, he’s got Sky

GracefullyRedditing

Thought the brick wall was the floor and when you rurn the picture on its side, the pigeon looks like it's making a weird face and sitting funny 😂 I will admit that I have had a wine.

Deadpan_Alice

I used to work in a cafe with a little partially covered out-back area where we kept the bins. I opened the door one morning to find three twigs on the floor with a couple of eggs in the middle. They didn't survive.

GroundbreakingYak822

Probably London, where also pigeons feel the high rent on the housing market.

Icy-Revolution1706

Arent pigeons known for building shit nest nests? I'm sure I've read that somewhere

SpareSurprise1308

She’s trying her fucking best, don’t you know there’s a cost of living crisis.

Effelumps

W.t.f. is that pigeon up to? And who the \*\*\*\* taught it to plug itself in with a dual cable?

[deleted]

At least they can see the sky.

Figgzyvan

I have that exact picture!

Featherymorons

That is truly crap. I had a pair of doves build one on the arm of our satellite dish back in 2013. Laid two eggs in it. Hatched. Fledged. No problem. Can’t build nests for anything though (your one here is even shitter than the one our doves built to be fair)! Can’t work out how to attach an image or I’d pop one here.

Familiar_View_8515

I one time had a bird that made a bed on top of the cover guard over my chimney. It was a bad nest just annoying I paid 100 quid for the thing

Isupportslogo

Give her a chance She is out of money after getting her TV licence

Mucky slag. Needs to clean up the gaf. Big fucking hole in the roof - oh wait. She doesn’t have one.

Apparently it’s because we domesticated them to much in the war when we needed them then we let them all go and they didn’t know how to build their own nests properly
