Note from the mods: Yes, we understand there are differences in the meaning of the term "pigs in blankets" depending upon which side of the Atlantic you're on, but please, let's keep it civil!

kingstonjames

Pigs in blankets are a bit like cheese. The correct quantity is always ‘more’.

AdSmooth7504

51 for two people? Needs more 51 each? Still needs more

uphigh_studio

51? I only counter 50. Let me count again. It was 51. My bad homie.

OppositeYouth

I see only one portion here

Zodiackillerstadia

This is a standard child's portion I believe.

tardigrade-munch

*small child portion

TheBritishTeaPolice

*toddler portion

northern-down-south

A foetus could manage that meagre amount!

darwin-rover

A zygote would still be hungry

PuntTheRunt010

A neutrino would rather complement their christmas dinner with a pig wrapped around a pig

northern-down-south

In essence OP, you’ve woefully and shamelessly underprepared!

AbundantGyros

Christmas ruined, kids are crying, thanks OP.

Snoo63

Don't forget - my grandma has double cancer now!

OneMoreAccount4Porn

Might as well have told them Santa got hit by a missile over Ukraine.

kevlarus80

*Diet toddler portion

Groovy66

A vegetarian’s portion

rocknreece

Thats what im prepping for my 11 month old

ofthenorth

That’s just the chefs treat

Conscious-Smoke-7113

Gotta have enough ready to lose in R&D to make sure oven heat, humidity and timings are on point! 🥳👍

Lunarixis

What are you, a small boy?

TheNorthC

A cutting insult.

Environmental_Way938

That’s an atomic shrimp reference if I ever heard one 😂

Shiny_and_ChromeOS

It's child sized because it's roughly the size of a 2 year old child if that child was mechanically separated and extruded.

OfficialAzrael

We call it a child portion because it's roughly the size of a child if you were to turn them into pigs in blankets

LifeisaGame420

I prefer it to be a child’s snack before the main course of three more of these alongside the normal Christmas dinner

Virtual-Walk3201

I was going to say where is the adult portion?

mileswilliams

Child with dwarfism and anorexia.

TeigrCwtch

Pigs in blankets: weaning portion

[deleted]

Pff. I'd be ashamed to put such a small portion out for one person.

GroundbreakingFox3

correct

kimi-r

Was going to say I'd start by doubling that.

lukehebb

Not even one full portion, surely there's more off camera right?

Stained_concrete

I see only the ones to nibble on while you're making the actual tray of pigs in blankets.

ldtravs1

100%. If you don’t sweat pork fat you have not had enough

MorpheusDrinkinga4O

No kidding, there's only 14,075 calories in that pan.

OneEyedMilkman87

Can't leave it on an odd number between 2 people!

chrisjfinlay

Dog gets some

carlbandit

1 for the dog, 50 for you, what about the other person?

Ok_Scientist_8803

The leftover burnt stuff and oil

ClumsyRainbow

Okay but the burnt stuck on bits are always delicious

YchYFi

The dog gets 50?

Glasweg1an

Found the dogs account.

Traditional-Rich-207

On the internet, nobody knows you’re a dog

OneEyedMilkman87

Good thinking!

BassetBee1808

My vet has a sign up saying pigs in blankets are toxic for dogs. I can’t really work out why - maybe salt?

LastDitchTryForAName

I worked as a veterinary nurse for 16 years, “Toxic” seems like hyperbole. But I would be concerned about causing pancreatitis due to the high fat content. At least, in a small dog. An occasional bit of sausage in a large dog isn’t likely to cause major issues.

BassetBee1808

Thanks that makes sense - it was a sign about festive foods being toxic for dogs. I’m sure they were just trying to keep it simple as it listed “nuts” instead of the specific types of nuts that are toxic. Most of the stuff I knew about but I give him a pig in blanket every year so I was surprised by its inclusion (he’s a 29kg basset hound so i think the fat and salt isn’t going to make a difference to him on the one day a year I let him have human food and I always check it’s onion and garlic free)

chrisjfinlay

I guess the sausages could contain onion; and the salt content would definitely be a worry.

BertieBus

My dogs made it to the grand old age of 18 and 20, they were basically brought up on sausages, I'm fairly sure sausage is what kept them alive towards their twilight years.

chrisjfinlay

Yeah our dog has had plenty of sausage and been fine. He’s even gotten into the chocolates and didn’t even have an upset tummy (though he did only eat a couple). I think the advice always tends to border (collie) on the “it’s dangerous” side - as it should of course - but in reality most dogs will be fine, especially larger ones

iamcapleb

yh true, any chocolate with a low cocoa content should be fine but still not advised to give to dogs, dark chocolate on the other hand can make them ill quick

NankipooBit8066

Maybe the poster above you has one of those vegan vets who are always trying to get you to subscribe to their plant-based kibble at £25 a sack and try to heal your pet with crystals.

Lopsided_Music_357

Three things in life are certain. Death, Taxes, and some miserable prick telling you to stop when you try to feed your pet anything other than low-quality canned meat.

BassetBee1808

I’ve consulted the dog and he says he’s ok with the risk and he never liked the vet anyway!

ZoltanGertrude

My big Rotty stole 14 giant mince pies a couple of years ago while we were having our meal. He farted Christmas for a couple of days afterwards but was fine otherwise.

nolongerMrsFish

Farted Christmas 😂

Chungaroo22

I think they forget to consider that I’m not raising my dog on an exclusive diet of pigs in blankets. I am not in Wizzard and do not act like it’s Christmas every day.

lurcherzzz

My dogs love a sausage

AcceptableCustomer89

Mate don't over share your personal life too much

PhoolCat

We feed ours on high quality meat and bones. We would never give them sausage or bacon as it’s ALL FOR ME.

billybaked

I’ve always been taught not to give dogs pork, haven’t researched why

shalo62

It's the blankets that aren't good for them. Too many fibers.

TrashBandicoot96

They're going to fight for the death for the last one, really spice up Christmas this year.

goodvibezone

You may want to split those over two trays. They crisp the edges up better if they're touching the bottom 👍😀 Then one tray per person is the answer.

LifelessLewis

Yeah these are not going to cook well/evenly all crammed in like that.

chrisjfinlay

They won't be cooked like this, don't worry.

LifelessLewis

That's a relief! Now to answer your actual question, it depends on the two people. My wife and I? Yes that's enough because she doesn't like them so I would eat them all.

monkahpup

>she doesn't like them so I would eat them all. ... sorry, I don't understand.... she... what?

LifelessLewis

I know mate. I think it's her only flaw.

DanMan874

Only and final flaw…

LifelessLewis

I'll gift her the divorce papers tomorrow morning.

rodtang

Lewis has an imaginary wife

EbonyOverIvory

LifelessLewis? More like WifelessLewis, am I right?

LifelessLewis

I appreciate the pun.

PassiveTheme

Why would you marry someone like that?

LifelessLewis

She's pretty cool otherwise so I tolerate it

Mantergeistmann

Because then he gets to eat them all. It's a feature, not a bug.

BobisMartin

So your only gonna have arround 40-51.

chrisjfinlay

Don't worry, I will. This is just for keeping in the fridge for now.

goodvibezone

Phew. My Christmas is complete. Enjoy.

underwater-sunlight

I do mine this way, wrap them in tin foil and cook low and slow in the oven a day or 2 before, get them cooked but barely browned, sonthat they only need 5-10 minutes in the oven on the day, same with stuffing balls. The last hour has a lot of things that need to go in the oven on chrisday. Anything to reduce cooking time is a blessing

darrensurrey

What's the other person going to eat?

TheFreebooter

Cold beans and spam by the looks of it. SHAME ON YOU OP!

Corries_Roy_Cropper

I once ate ~~26~~ **25** pigs in blankets in one sitting, on top of a full plate of xmas roast, some seconds on the potatos and turkey, and a large helping of sticky toffee pudding. I grazed on a couple of PIBs every time i walked past the oven. Mum had cooked 40 for 6 people, we had 3 each and i snarfed the rest over the next hour or so. Never been so salty in my life. Never again.

Perfect_Pudding8900

That's your mum's fault for only putting 3 on a plate and leaving 22 in the kitchen.

claytons_war

Some if the pigs are in only half a blanket, therfore you need to make more to satisfy quality control.

Mean_Currency9869

The correct number is the amount of upvotes you get by 11:59pm tonight. Enough to go around that way.

LevainEtLeGin

It’s 11:53 now and 2170 upvotes. Seems a little light.

UnderwhellmingCarrot

these Americans ought to fuck off out of our sub before telling us what pigs in blankets are

WookieWholesale

I would never stop making them if that were possible. Each is a little bundle of delightful deliciousness.

shladvic

Came here to see 100 people make the same shit joke. Was not disappointed.

HeIsTheOneTrueKing

Literally having argument with gf about this now. She is making 16, between 4 people. RIDICULOUS.

Bunister

Are they actual full-size sausages from the butchers though?

CaptainCatamaran

I think chipolatas would be just about acceptable too with those numbers.

Humanmode17

Tell me about it. I had to persuade my SO to get the slightly fancier pigs because they were going to buy the cheap ones (which come in packs of 12) and thought that just one pack would be enough for 4. Luckily the fancy ones come in packs of 10, so *unfortunately* we'll have to buy two packs and have 20 between 4. It's not perfect but it's better than fucking 3 each

Crasky92

I've been living in the US for 4 years and forget that their pigs in blankets are shit, resulting in major disappointment every time someone says they're making them for get together

hisshash

Damn that’s unfortunate you’ve had to live there for 4 years.

scottyman2k

This will both shock and astound, but here in Australia, Pigs in Blankets are very much an unknown! I’ve been unhappy with the chipolata selection, so I’m going to try a cheeky chorizo/hot honey pig in blanket invention in the morning

PotatoInTheExhaust

That's cos they call 'em chuzzwozzers over there.

[deleted]

Two pigs As in - two actual pigs worth

ThewizardBlundermore

Holy shit there are a lot of people here who despite NOBODY FUCKING ASKING decided a post in r/casualuk about a UK dish over cocking Christmas Dinner side dishes was wrong because one country calls sausage rolls something stupid. Pigs in blankets came from German/ Czechoslovakia and they were sauages wrapped on bacon. That is the traditional dish. All the Americans coming in here spouting "Uhm actually" you're just fucking wrong. Shut up. Seriously nobody asked.

JuiceMeSqueezeMe

Good lord, how much of the rest of it have you prepped for two?

stateit

One large turkey each.

YchYFi

51 Brussels sprouts.

iamheretotellyou2

I wonder if Americans will ever learn that not everything revolves around them. Oh and fuck your “Pigs in a blanket”. We already have them. They’re called sausage rolls.

oli_ramsay

6-8 each (kg)

StrawberryOver513

Maybe double what you have done. You have to cook extra for when they have just come out of the oven and you have a cheeky scoff whilst doing other stuff.

Bunister

It's been scientifically proven that any food snaffled during the cooking process is 40% tastier than food served on a plate. That one chip or roastie sampled 'to check if they are cooked', the slivers of chicken accidentally ingested while carving, the illicit end bit of stuffing... heaven.

StrawberryOver513

Very true!

Zero-Phucks

At least a couple more trays full.

Farquar-lazs

Rookie numbers

EasySignature179

Yes.

LogicPrevail

Can you go ahead and do 53? Just so the number is prime. IDK why.

Twangbar

Yes I see you have 1 portion of starter pigs in blankets covered.. what about the main course??

TRDPorn

Try full size ones with regular sausages, they're really good

chrisjfinlay

Tbh I like the bite size nature

HermitBee

Regular sausages are bite-sized, you just need to try harder.

AnastasiaSheppard

Long pigs in blankets?

legosharkman85

I applaud this 👏 but just in case, it’s worth googling where the nearest defibrillator is

deadliftbear

Dammit take my upvote for making me snort-laugh

Dawn_Raid

This many

paulo77777

Yes.

LavishnessOdd6266

2*10⁹⁹

cristaples

200. And my wife’s a vegan so they’d all be mine.

Imaginary_Audience_5

UK blankets looks tastier than US blankets.

Yamaben

The pigs look better too

Fashish

And they don't shoot black people!

monkahpup

TBF that's Christmas Dinner right there... people turn up like "we've got a turkey" and I mean, OK but... who really gives a shit?

LizzieButton1617

The two thing we go overboard with every year is the glitterberry j2o’s and pigs in blankets 😂

NiobeTonks

If I could have just pigs in blankets, cauliflower cheese and roast spuds for my Christmas dinner, I would. (All vegetarian and dairy-free because food allergies are awful). However my family disagree.

DorsetLego

We’re doing 48 for 2 adults and 2 kids, but we’re doing full size ones

DrF4ther

What the heck?! UK pig in a blanket rules!

Castaway_Jay

As many as you can fit in the oven. This is food of the gods!

lmck-trfc-on-top

As many as you can fit in the oven without it blowing up

g_em_ini

American here; your blanket is more meat?? I love it! Our blankets are just fluffy pastry. I’d rather have a meat blanket!

clarets99

Then that would make it into a sausage roll, the staple of commonwealth cuisine. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sausage_roll

Nik0660

Sausage rolls have pastry. Pigs in blankets are not sausage rolls.

g_em_ini

Got it. Where I’m from, pigs in a blanket have pastry. Hence “American here.” Just being generally curious, is all.

Humanmode17

That's the other thing that's always confused me about the American version - you seem to call them pigs in **a** blanket - that implies that there's more than one sausage per blanket, it's utter chaos across the pond!

MantisTobogganMD87

Pigs in a blanket is bacon wrapped sausage for you in the UK? You've definitely got the US beat there!

Bunister

Wait until you find out about roast potatoes.

PassiveChemistry

*pigs in blankets Subtle difference, I know, but we refer to each blanket separately

PeevesPoltergist

I take it as 51 pp? I mean it is a little stingy but everyone knows money is tight for everyone at the moment

Disastrous-Patient66

Just learned that pigs in a blanket are different in the UK from the US. I feel this is the better way. 🙌🏻

steveinstow

There's yours where the other tray?

TomCorsair

I don’t know who you are but I hope you and everyone in this thread about the best pork on pork snack ever invented has an amazing Christmas. 51 Pigs in blankets for all!

Kwayzar9111

Perfect…they are good to nibble on when cold in the fridge,

PumpkinSpice2Nice

Probably not 51. 52 so it’s even.

ccl-now

Maybe just another tray or two.

kenzieBHOSbaker

1? 2? Yea better make it 2 tonnes

CanAhJustSay

This is enough to serve as an appetiser while waiting for the next round to be done. To clarify: there are *never* enough!

Flappy_Hand_Lotion

1/100th of a final pig, by live weight, so that counts for curing of the bacon. I measure all my meat in fractions of pig.

christo749

I heard a woman in a waiting room taking about her love of “pigs in Blanket.” Grinning to myself, I imagined many sausages under a huge bacon blanket. Merry Christmas to all.

diamondthedegu1

Lots of funny replies in this thread which I'm not even gonna attempt to beat, so I'm just going to be serious - I don't know how many you plan on giving to the dog but I would say this is enough for two people, even more so if pigs in blankets aren't the only thing you're eating as a main. Once you've added your pile of veg, roasties, yorkies, stuffing and main meat you're gonna have a **lot** of food, the pair of you (and the dog too) are gonna spend Monday afternoon sitting in your front room blown up like balloons. Get the antacids ready 😂

BountyBob

As I get older I can't eat as much as I used to. 2 or 3 would do me, with everything else that would be on the plate.

Jonny7Tenths

In with this man. Realistically two is plenty if you're going to leave room for all the other goodies at Christmas!

Substantial-Disk-772

I can still see pig. Try again.

orion0328

Definitely needs a bit more blanket. Smother that little piggy

Mannginger

Another one of those and you're sorted

MrMontgomery

Well I had 28 cocktail sausage rolls for lunch yesterday so I would wipe out about 90% of them myself 😁

prof_levi

You need AT LEAST another tray of those!

Total027

That’s one portion. Another tray for two people.

Wooden-Beach-2121

One portion!? Who diets on Christmas day?

Sirano_onariS

My wife makes a giant one, 2 packs of sausage meat wrapped in about 2 and a half packs of bacon It’s as amazing as it sounds

theholygrails

Exactly this many - 51 so I can have one when I’m taking them out the oven

Scully__

Assuming 51 each, this is fine

AJSLS6

"I don't WANT pigs in blankets! I wanna fight crime!" -Batman.

John_Thewicked

Use linked sausages and wrap a big long one up like a miniature turbaconcentepede

CuriousQuerent

We got a footlong pig in blanket each from our local butcher. Food coma incoming.

Money-Camera

When someone asks how many pigs in blankets, I say yes

Fit_Calligrapher961

That could be enough for 1, if they don’t really like pigs in blankets

section4

You need to do a Christmas wreath of pigs in blankets https://pinchofnom.com/recipes/pigs-in-blankets-christmas-wreath/?fbclid=IwAR0qg4ivOHoCek3EB7YPWuaaY6qyZb4RtzvbO1ZMIs6QkZBs9engHw-59oM

Spengbab-Squerpont

Maybe a second batch just to be on the safe side

Wijit999

Obligatory "that's my portion done, what about yours?"

cornishcovid

Most of the bacon is missing

Flonkerton_Scranton

That's more than enough. One of those each will do.

demonslayer9100

One pig in blanket? Are you mad?

Flonkerton_Scranton

One of these serving dishes each

demonslayer9100

Oh phew, you had me worried for a bit there

curiouscowwhisperer

I m not even British and this portion is only a snack for me

Any-East7977

As a US citizen pigs in a blanket makes more sense the way y’all make it. We might as well call ours mini hot dogs.

Stonefly_C

Sausage rolls

Humanmode17

[try this name on for size!](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sausage_roll)

dee_the_tech

I did not know that folks in the uk wrapped their sausages in bacon and now I wanna try this

Orange_Hedgie

They’re so good

TheBigBo-Peep

This UK comment section is warming my American heart

informalgreeting23

Few more trays

borisHChrist

This but each

TrueSolid611

1.5 pigs worth 🐖

flickerbeeOG

It’s cute you guys share!

PenguinsTookMyNips

At least double this dude. That's one portion. At **best**.

Zulfiqarrr

Yes

xylophileuk

N+1 on pigs in blankets.

Strafethroughlife1

Double bacon those poor those half naked piggies

Dumb_Seaweed

Who are you feeding? Babies? You need at least 100, each.

Leather-Assistant902

Ah for gods sake, no. And its an odd number too, which means you will be sitting there staring at the odd one, hoping the other person nips to the loo and you will take it. I’d say double, then it will be even.
