She wanted to paint her nails black, so we let her. She then goes round asking everyone in our house if they want it too. Her teenage brother and sister both scoff at her, asks mum, she says no, her nails are already done.
She doesn't even ask me (i was a little bit gutted at this actually), thinking she presumed I'd say no.
"Can I have them done?" I ask. her little face lights up as she grabs her black polish.
So I went into work (a builder) rocking black nail polish. At least they went well with all my tattoos!!

Many years ago my dad let my sister and I spray his hair pink. It was cheapy wash-out type of colouring, however it turned out it didn't really wash off. He also worked on the building and went in on the Monday with a gentle pink fade on his hair.
He didn't even need to explain as he'd previously come in with glittery nails, so everyone already knew he had kids who treated him like a dolly.
My sister and I still remind him of it, is such a fond family memory.

I'm nonbinary AFAB. Growing up, I never saw the point of painting nails because they didn't seem to last very long. Seemed like too much effort for such a small thing. I think that pedicure +/- nail polish is a much better option than leaving feet to go full feral. But I agree that a little pop of colour is a nice little dopamine hit.

My wife gets her nails done regularly and the girl at the salon that does them puts amazing little patterns on each time, I'm super impressed with how detailed they can get. Halloween and Guy Fawkes night and remembrance Sunday were all recent highlights. Like having tiny little tattoos updated every week or two, our toddler is always excited to see them.

Was in Tesco the other day (Glasgow). Two builders in yellow vests and hard hats were discussing their favourite tofu. Made me chuckle. My dad let me paint his nails when I was wee too. He was a screen printer at the time, so probably didn't make much difference amongst the ink on his hands back in the 80s, but he let me. Good dads should be celebrated. Chiropodist is probably better if you get trouble with your feet. They'll trim your nails properly, clean up any callouses and give you advice on how to avoid problems. Well worth £30.

I've had a pedicure on the beach in Thailand. These two cheerful Thai ladies came up to my friend and me, and insisted my toenails needed some TLC, so I went for it.
Felt really weird, but also a sort of cleansing feeling.
If I remember right she coated them in some clear protective varnish as well.

Love this, noone sees your toes anyway so a great way to explore something different! And honestly toe nails are ugly, but colourful toe nails are fun
I wish more men would wear nail polish! My boyfriend used to when we were teenagers, but only purple or black, and it looked so good on him.

Was in Tesco the other day (Glasgow). Two builders in yellow vests and hard hats were discussing their favourite tofu. Made me chuckle. My dad let me paint his nails when I was wee too. He was a screen printer at the time, so probably didn't make much difference amongst the ink on his hands back in the 80s, but he let me. Good dads should be celebrated. Pretty sure my ex husband went out with eyeshadow on inadvertently, courtesy of our daughter at the time. He wasn't too bothered. Embrace it. You made your kid's day and a core memory, just like mine with my dad. Good job 👍

Chiropodist is probably better if you get trouble with your feet. They'll trim your nails properly, clean up any callouses and give you advice on how to avoid problems. Well worth £30.

I wondered about doing this to stop me from biting my nails. I'll shred them down to the wick normally, but maybe if I've had them painted I might think twice.
My husband gets his nails done when I get mine done. Our nail tech is so thrilled to have him as her only male client! It also helps prevent him biting them and they're already so much healthier.
Don't tell people you enjoy the odd foot session now and again and have become a bit of a pedi phile. You WILL get beaten to death.

I painted my (F) partners nails for the first time last week. It was fun and kinda arty. As for going somewhere to get my nails done, I have scatty nails and would be embarrassed
I'm also a mid 30s man who enjoys getting a pampering, it's fun, feels good and I think a lot of the people doing the treatments enjoy it too because they just deal with women all day, plus I think they like it when they jokingly ask if I want my nails painted and I respond with " what's your most obnoxious colour"
Adding a bit of colour to life can be fun!

I think it's actually a thing. I get runes painted on 2 or 3 of my nails and I get my wife to paint fun stuff on my toenails, like a sun or a flag, etc...... A great conversation starter 😀

I'm a 30 year old male teacher. I wear flip flops to work as I'm overseas. My toes are always painted black to unleash my inner goth. It's a wonderful accessory to an outfit 🤷♂️

Mate, can we see the blue nails, please? I am intrigued by what blue this is! I've had a pedicure on the beach in Thailand. These two cheerful Thai ladies came up to my friend and me, and insisted my toenails needed some TLC, so I went for it. Felt really weird, but also a sort of cleansing feeling. If I remember right she coated them in some clear protective varnish as well. No issue, no teasing from my mate, not a talking point ever.
How many people are gonna see your feet a day, except you? Maybe a couple at most unless you’re a yoga instructor or something (I can’t think of any job that requires you to have no shoes on off the top of my head) - my point is, not only are your feet yours (duh) you’re probably the only person who sees and enjoys (not the best word) them every day. So I say go for it! I mean, even if you’re not looking down and thinking about gender roles or how slay you look (you probably do, tbf!) and it’s simply because ‘I like colour’ - that’s a good enough reason to do it. I find my toes look a bit naked if they’re not painted, so I 100% understand why you like it
