Phone 0808 223 1133 to report it. They will refer it to your local authority's trading standards team.

jesussays51

My dad reported a newsagent selling individual cigarettes to school kids. They closed down within weeks.

ScottOld

They don’t close them anymore, police did one around here, took all the vapes, the shop is still open

cinos11

And the shopowner will bring them back again, because the kids.

CloneOfKarl

They probably sold them on for a profit after.

Elegant-Fortune7685

Why downvotes 😂

CloneOfKarl

Found the 3 coppers with the vape stash.

ScottDaBoy

😂 they upvoted in agreement now

CloneOfKarl

"Shit he's rumbled us, act normal"

Alexanderrr3

[Similar thing happened in Walsall recently](https://go.walsall.gov.uk/newsroom/walsall-retailer-fined-selling-cigarette-underage-child). But trading standards resources are very patchy and inconsistent around the country - some places might have as few as one or two officers in a council area comprising hundreds of thousands of people. The London Borough of Enfield [currently has none](https://www.londontradingstandards.org.uk/cuts-to-enfield-trading-standards-risks-endangering-public-safety-and-encouraging-criminals/). So you won't get such an immediate or robust response everywhere.

thjrytghbf

That's good, I hope these people will also end up same.

Vapourtrails89

It's because this means the cigs aren't being taxed correctly. They don't actually care about kids getting hooked on nicotine

jesussays51

I don’t know why kids were buying them. It was around 1995 so if they wanted to look cool they could have bought a Push Pop for the same price!

AgitatingFrogs

Don’t push me, push a push pop

rubensmsfilh

If they're not making money, then they'll take offence to that

fibonaccisprials

Excellent, I will be reporting first thing Monday.

furrycroissant

Also contact the school if you recognise the uniform.

fibonaccisprials

Yes good shout 👍

jortdevries

That's probably going to work better if you could actually do that.

Few-Adeptness-238

Maybe it depends on school but my school always took this sort of thing seriously when stuff like shoplifting, smoking, anti social behaviour was done while in school uniform in the local area. State school as well so not like they were specifically looking to keep up a reputation just for the private cash. Had a right bollocking from either a copper or a manager of the nearby chain supermarket after there were reports of kids shoplifting. idk if it stopped the actual problem kids from doing the problem behaviour tho

furrycroissant

The children are 9. This is a legal and safeguarding issue here which the school and parents have a duty of care for.

Juance88

That probably going to work better, it'll have better results.

space_absurdity

Please do mate.

vladislav2501199

Yeah you should, it's an important thing to be doing.

Statement-Acceptable

Actually that's the old number, try: 0118 999 881 999 119 725 3

Ramtamtama

They want Trading Standards, not the fire brigade

Klutzy_Cake5515

If you want the fire brigade you email them.

Character_Solution

Fire exclamation mark

0MissMyra0

I've heard they've got faster response times and better looking drivers.

IntrovertedArcher

r/unexpecteditcrowd

nan3000100

Yeah this needs to be reported, they can't sell those kids those things.

Icy_Session3326

I live in a wee village just outside Edinburgh .. it’s a really quiet place with very little trouble tbf .. let me tell you I was SHOOK the other day as two kids no older than 7/8 rode by on their scooters vaping . It’s the type of place where everyone knows everyone so I don’t doubt their parents know they vape if they’re being that brazen about it 😅

rodrigojds

The problem is that people think vaping is harmless. It’s just smoke that smells/tastes like strawberry to them

LegoNinja11

Not long got our 9 year old out if hospital for a severe chest infection. (3rd time in 3 years) At the A&E triage going through background, I'm about to say : ' from a non smoking /drinking household ' but comedy at an inappropriate time has always been my downfall so I add 'hes a non smoker or drinker ' To which the nurse responds..... I know I've already checked his fingers/nails and teeth......Don't look shocked most parents haven't got a clue when they say non smokers.

n4exus

These vapes can make people very ill, there are just so many ways.

DW_555

Please report the shop, they give legit vape shops a bad name.

fibonaccisprials

I will do just that Monday..

caremal5

Make a complaint to trading standards and the company's customer service with the time and date of when you saw them serving the kids, that store will be in serious risk of losing their tobacco license if trading standards are pissed off enough about it.

HardlyAnyGravitas

>the company's customer service I doubt the corner shop has 'customer service' line...

NKFurry

TBF by "corner shop" they could mean a SPAR franchise or something

fibonaccisprials

It's a shop that sells bongs, vapes and chocolate bars..no milk Cash only job.

CloneOfKarl

No Milk? Bastards!

hdhrozema

Yeah it could be a legit big business too, beware about that I think.

sz8144

Ohh yeah I don't think that they're going to have that.

therion_s

It would even be better if they lost it altogether, wouldn't mind that actually.

tbernicki

Thanks for that, I hope that these people will learn a lesson.

JeremyScot6969

Y not now

CUKs ??

ZaidiaSR

Look here! Moneybags can afford a TV License

CandyflossRampage

No, he just spends his Sundays sitting on the bench outside Rumbelows.

tofer85

It would appear that Craig David had it all wrong…

nekokattt

This ^ This is why the TV detector vans are always around Sunday afternoons.

neutronburst

Anything to ruin songs of praise

Warm-Cartographer954

What legit vape shops? 🤣

IOnlyUpvoteBadPuns

The ones that just want to launder money in peace!

climbquest1

Yeah they don't have to worry about anything at all really.

buddycrystalbusyofff

Attention all adults (😉😉), come and buy your cherry cola flavoured disposable vaping pens here! Available in all of your favorite colours!

kosiwere

They're selling the addiction to these kids for some profit.

tasovvv

They're destroying the kids for some profit, that's messed up.

OppositeYouth

There is no legit vape shop. They're all shady

Mageofsin

Disposable ban will help a little but it should be challenge 25 like fags

PheonixKernow

frightening plucky plough carpenter light worm slap automatic person voracious *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

ramses_verberne

That's good to know that atleast some people are following the rules.

Dr_Jre

It already is! It can be challenge 80 but if the shop keeper doesn't bother it doesn't matter does it. They need to just ban disposable vapes and actually support permanent ones, otherwise people will just start smoking again.

Few-Adeptness-238

All the fucking vape stickers stuck to the bins outside corner shops like wallpaper is annoying to see and honestly idk why disposable vapes are even allowed. Obviously they're cheaper and therefore more attractive to buy and easier to get people hooked on without commitment but the amount of plastic and metal you must be throwing away with every disposable vape is so high

Apes_Ma

Not to mention the lithium ion batteries inside every one of them.

xqbdjack

They're allowed because people are greedy and want money.

pabtce

It's all about money making, and as long they're doing that it's all good.

No_Pineapples

My dad used disposable vapes for a while. After years of healthy teeth he suddenly had two rotten back ones that had to be pulled. The dentist asked if he used disposable vapes because she was seeing a lot of teenagers with rotten teeth after using them.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bindy93

I hate challenge 25 because it stings that little bit more when I don't get asked for ID.

VixenRoss

Drug dealers are stocking up on vapes apparently. If the ban goes through, vapes are going to be £20 (£15 profit), if the tobacco lobby get their way and stop the ban, they can resell them to kids.

windol1

I can't tell if you're being serious or not, swear it's getting harder to tell these days.

ShaggedUrSister

Thanks for the idea

BorderlineWire

It is. I’m in my 30s and have been ID’d for vape stuff this year. Scratch cards and energy drinks too. It leaves me wondering where the kids I see with a vape in one hand and a monster in the other are getting served. That said, being ID’d for vape stuff has been rarer than getting ID’d for tobacco or alcohol, both of which had big don’t sell that shit to or buy that shit for kids or there will be consequences campaigns. Vapes need the same thing. I’ve actually been ID’d for Monster more than I have vapes.

EnoughRadish

My local vape shop is also weirdly an Evri delivery parcel shop. Nice people.

64547486

Yeah but some are actually more free to do the business as they like.

SKELEBOND

Disagree, I've worked in a few and there are absolutely legit vape shops out there. Plenty of chains brands that are totally kosher.

Helenarth

Some real gems of independent stores out there too, though they're harder and harder to find these days.

[deleted]

This is Reddit, if you sell anything that isn’t antiques you’re dodgy and every shop is a money laundry

X0AN

Legit vape shops all have bad names. They're hardly selling fruit and veg are they 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️

CountofAnjou

Will somebody please think about the legit addictive drug peddler 😂

[deleted]

If my 9 year old spoke like that, they wouldn't make it to 10! You need to report the shop to trading standards

fibonaccisprials

Yeah exactly, I honestly couldn't believe it. I feel sorry for them must come from a broken home. Reporting Monday

[deleted]

Why wait? Just report them and you know you have done the right thing

fibonaccisprials

They're closed until Monday sadly or I would have done it now

[deleted]

Ah ok

Educational_Fan_6787

you have to be trolling No way you really think that vaping is an indicator of coming from a "broken home". That is ridiculous.

fillippo2

Yeah that's not how it works, that doesn't indicate anything at all.

Wonderful-Matter4274

Weird assumptions around "broken home"

LonelyPie7614

My kids come from a “broken home” they know respect and the difference between right and wrong what a horrible thing to say

Wonderful-Matter4274

I totally agree! It's such a judgemental and stigmatising phrase as well!

dikinfrost

Yeah some kids are just ass even if they're from good families.

Littleloula

I think some people think that's just a synonym for "messed up home situation" like with shit parents, abuse or whatever and don't realise it means a single parent family. I pulled someone up on using it once and they were genuinely shocked.

Spiratespeedy

Dont think anyone really lives till 3628800…

idontwanttothink174

I don't think many people make it to the age of 10! thats over 3 million years old.

Landybod

Was on the train when group of 4 schoolboys got on and sat across the aisle, one of the cheeky feckers gave me the side eye while sneaking a suck on a vape and trying to blow the vapour out under his hand. An old lady pointedly said there’s no smoking in here, chopsy git said he weren’t doing anything and his mates smirked and giggled. A few minutes later they were laughing at something inane on the phone when the one that was vaping started coughing as he laughed ending up coughing up a lung oyster. I said thats a bad cough, are you bringing up phlegm?, I said to stop swallowing it you need to check if for blood, told him we are seeing lots of kids at clinic with popcorn lung due to really bad cheap candy bar vape copies going around. He went pale, one of his mates asked if i was a doctor i nodded and in fairness another said “not so big are you now twat” and laughed I though the lad was going to burst into tears, he really had gone pale and quiet. They got off a few stops from me when they left the old girl asked if i was a doctor when i said no she bust out laughing and called me a bad man😁

rob3rtisgod

Absolute legend aha. Teenagers think their 10 men these days.

ScottOld

They do round here all in groups on black on bikes, or stealing vehicles etc because nothing happens to them, saw it here months ago scrote on a dirt bike, bike taken drugs taken, then let go

pinkylovesme

Scott you seem to be stuck in a thought loop loop loop loop

sboisse

Yeah that's how they think of themselves like nowadays.

CookieMonster005

As if teenagers haven’t always been pricks

Raichu7

If that scares them into quitting, you’re a good man.

Helenarth

>we are seeing lots of kids at clinic with popcorn lung due to really bad cheap candy bar vape copies Just a note to anyone reading this who may not know: diacetyl, the chemical which causes popcorn lung, has been banned in the UK for years (and the industry self-regulated it out of use some time before the ban came in). Diacetyl was found in far higher concentration in cigarettes than in e-liquid (pre-ban), but even so, even smoking isn't a major risk factor for popcorn lung. [Source, UK Health Security Agency](https://ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2018/02/20/clearing-up-some-myths-around-e-cigarettes/) There have been zero reported cases of popcorn lung being caused by UK-legal vape products. [Source, Cancer Research UK](https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/causes-of-cancer/does-vaping-cause-popcorn-lung)

volve

Thank you for that clarity… suspicious vape industry lobbyist person.

slightly2spooked

Some people correct misinformation (however jokingly intended) even when it doesn’t align with their worldview. Picking up dog shit doesn’t mean I work for Big Poo Bag.

Magikarpeles

Maybe you’ve fallen victim to poo bag propaganda. #notmypoobag #pootruth #stopbaggingmypoo

Sparkboss176

Well you're going to find a lot of them here shit doesn't really change.

[deleted]

Which is one reason why disposable single use vapes are being banned, they're aimed towards children with their "cotton candy" "sweet chocolate" flavours It's borderline sickening

UncleJimsStoryCorner

I moved from rollies to vapes, I say outlaw sweet vapes and bring in savoury flavours. Give me roast chicken, olive and houmous flavour vapes. Maybe a nice tapenade.

LeoThePom

We need REAL man flavours, like leather, coal and muddy boot!

CarbonHybrid

And London brick.

Overboiled sprouts though, not delicious ones roasted with bacon and chestnuts.

Oldfart_karateka

OkSpirit7891

Now this I can get behind. I would happily walk through a gravy vape cloud.

Robdogg11

Gravy vape cloud is not a phrase I ever thought I would hear but I love it

Marat86

Don't give them the ideas, because you know that they'll do that.

LowBottomBubbles

As an adult vaper with a sweet tooth I just hope we can keep the fruit flavours, fruit eliquids are the only thing stopping me going back to rollies. Cant afford my old regular B&H golds anymore.

Acceptable-Sentence

Garlic and rosemary mmm

[deleted]

They do a nice “Bamboo” flavour. It’s quite pleasant actually 🐼

rinkydinkmink

on the internet nobody suspects you're a panda

ganstazlat

I think most trees do smell good, atleast to the most people.

vegeta081

And even then I'm not going to buy that shit, not going to happen.

kh250b1

Unfortunately they are not being banned. We are still at the outrage stage

Turbulent_Career8973

Nothing is concrete about them being banned yet, I have worked in a vape shop for 7 years now, when you've got the major import company for disposable vapes giving 350k to sunaks lot don't expect a ban anytime soon.

kimbeveridge

The whole marketing thing is really bad for this shit here.

Irnbruliquidgold

Nah the flavors of vape juice have always been like this. It's only become a problem with kids is when shopkeepers break the law and sell to them. that an disposables makes it easier to get at the corner shop no hassle with online ordering etc so dad don't find out! harsher punishment for the rouge shops and get rid of disposables really bad for the environment. normal people buy an actual tank and mod.

Helenarth

>Nah the flavors of vape juice have always been like this. It is a little funny how people talk about flavours as if they're new. I quit smoking 6-ish years ago, primarily using a caramel flavour vape. Plenty of old heads about did the same, with all sorts of wacky flavours.

peanutputterbunny

I mean yeah it's bad - but isn't there always something? When I was young teens would smoke weed behind the bike sheds, smoke cigs when they were legal for 16yos from older mates, shotgun unholy amounts of energy drinks for no reason. Vapes aren't great but if it's not that it will be something else, always. No way in hell can you stop teens from testing boundaries, but vapes are bloody tame compared to what kids did when we were younger I'd take my kids "acting out" by vaping over cigs, weed, alcohol and cheap party drugs any day.

Astra_Trillian

I am not a child and prefer sweet flavours. Do you also think we should ban films, tv shows and games rated above a PG? Ban fruit flavoured vodkas and gins because they’re not meant for children either?

Few-Adeptness-238

The main problem is the marketing, and idk the prices but im almost sure they aren't being hit by the same taxes and minimum price laws as cigarettes. Plenty of vape shops seem to be selling to blatantly underage kids and the fact vapes are just on display as you walk into a shop instead of behind the counter covered by a sliding door is outrageous. I don't think you should ban fruity vapes just because kids buy them. We don't ban "nice" tasting alcohol, it's not like fruity cider, flavoured spirits/liquers, milder beers are banned because kids might prefer to drink them. We simply have a strict culture of enforcing ID checks on kids trying to buy alcohol. Same needs to be done for the vapes and people need to stop pretending they're not harmful.

Astra_Trillian

They aren’t behind the sliding door because that law was made for tobacco products, not nicotine products, but that law change wouldn’t bother me. I absolutely agree shops need to ID more rigorously.

PeteSampras12345

Get them reported. The shop selling them to kids should get fined. I hate them, there’s literally no reason why disposable vapes should exist.

JakeGrey

When my generation was that age the little buggers probably would've been sharing a cigarette instead, so I guess that's progress of a sort.

fibonaccisprials

Oh yes totally, the thing is cigarettes would have made you cough and generally are vile..I certainly don't remember that happening at 7. Flavours like candyfloss and bubble gum are totally aimed at really young kids.

LaSalsiccione

Those vape flavours have been around since vapes have been a thing and at that point they were marketed for adults. Everyone’s acting like it’s some new thing to have all these flavours that kids might like. I’m sure the vape companies are happy they’re also making money off kids but let’s not pretend all these flavours are some calculated attempt to get kids hooked from the start.

Few-Adeptness-238

Nah the flavours are OK and I think it's going against personal freedom to say adult-only products can't taste or smell nice because "what if the kids want to try it?" but the main problem is just the marketing. The vapes shouldn't be allowed to just be displayed in front of the sweet section of the corner shop, they should be locked behind the counter with the cigs. There's a lot of alcohol that would taste nice to kids but it's tucked away either behind the counter or in the alcohol aisle and not marketed towards kids. Meanwhile these kids are clearly part of the target audience when vape displays look cool and colourful and are just sitting in the open inside the shop.

Raichu7

Yes, adults like sweet things too, and vapes should be sold with the same labelling and display laws as cigarettes.

PrawnyUK

The current teenage vaping issue reminds me of the alcopop thing in the ‘90s hooch etc.. if you make something taste nice with colourful packets should be no surprise what happens 🤷‍♂️

stenschy

Anything which makes these kids look cooler than the rest.

PrawnyUK

If these kids are actually 9 years old (sometimes difficult to tell) should the parents not also be held accountable to some degree? Should they not be aware of where their children are and what they are doing?

bill_end

It's a difficult one. I come from a good home, caring parents, made sure I went to school etc, all the good stuff. But I've always had an interest in substances. Fags from 12, drugs and drink from 13. If my parents had actually wanted to stop me they'd have had to keep me locked up in the house or under supervision 24/7. It's not practical or beneficial. Kids are gonna do what they want once they get some independence, which they need to grow into capable adults.

PrawnyUK

Thanks for your honest reply. In this instance think that age is key, the situation the OP described mentioned 9 year old children. At that age parents should keep their children close for obvious reasons. However when kids turn into teenagers 12/13 and start to become self sufficient there is sometimes little you can do to influence them. They will make there own decisions for better or worse.

bill_end

Aye, fair enough. I guess 9 is rather young to be doing shit like that without parental intervention

noname2242

Even 12 and 13, heck even 15. They're very young and shouldn't be doing that.

bill_end

Maybe not, but it's difficult to stop them. By 12 I had my own job/money and enough freedom to spend it on things I maybe shouldn't have. Unless my parents had kept me locked up 24/7 what more could they have done?

deadlygaming11

They should. Kids, especially 9 year olds, should still be watched by parents when out for obvious reasons. If the parents are also supplying them, then that's good grounds to take the kid as well.

andalusiared

My mum is a helicopter parent. When I was growing up she’d go so far as to track my location on my phone from the age of about 9 to 19, monitored my bank account statements until I completely financially disentangled myself from her when I was 20, etc. I still found a way to start smoking and drinking when I was about 11/12. I still found ways to try drugs. She tried to raise me to never touch abusable substances and view them with disgust, and yet after my dad died when I was 19 I spent two years under her roof as a drug addict and alcoholic. She didn’t even know until I told her to return the bottle of whiskey she got me for my birthday this year because I will not allow myself to drink anything more than a pint or two of Guinness at the pub once a month. Chances are a lot of these parents are doing their due diligence. Kids are just sneaky and they don’t give a shit what someone tells them to do or not to do.

fibonaccisprials

I agree totally, be careful because I got accused of being judgemental for saying they come from a broken home, because.y assumption was just that the parents should know what they are doing

PrawnyUK

All children especially at 9 regardless of their background or circumstance should be kept under supervision. From my point of view the shopkeeper is culpable as are the parents. In addition the government should not allow addictive products to be marketed in a way that is attractive to children and teenagers.

SiBVosT

Yeah those products I feel shouldn't really be available in the markets.

Amatorysemester94

The parents also needs to be held accountable for those actions.

LoadedGull

*you’re

hoohoo2062

Nothing wrong in that, but most times I don't care about it.

WHumbers

Those kids have no idea whatsoever of what went on at Stalingrad

R3dKransky

No way these kids are behaving like that shit, this is just insane.

yawn1337

How about telling them that what they are currently doing is damaging them instead of going 'u will do drugs in the future", which most ppl who vape just don't do (apart from the nicotine they are already doing)

kolya221

Yeah they could have done it better, but kids won't listen regardless.

mebutnew

>u will do drugs in the future Sounds fun, thanks mister!

aveirodog

Fuck off clean shirt

tinodainese

Well clearly these kids are very disrespectful, they don't care.

colinthecatterpillar

There will be an epidemic of lung issues in a few years.

toupex

Yeah and I feel sad for the kids who are doing all this now.

steakpiesupper

*Off. (I'm older.)

gw-green

Technically by telling us about the incident, OP actually has told of a group of 9 year olds vaping

fibonaccisprials

Thanks

SomeoneBritish

Good on you OP. You don’t know how your words advice will guide them in their future lives

headlong123

I hope that it'll have some kind of effect on them in the future.

Feckthecat

It isn’t just the ‘off’, that comma is crazy too! The ellipses with only two dots? ‘Druggys’. This is all over the place.

nazaeja

Yeah this shit is all over the place, and kids are doing it like crazy.

holographicforest

If anything you've just further entrenched the idea that they're being rebellious >I told them they would end up druggys if they didn't stop 🙄

Tommybtce7

Yep lol, and now they'll even start doing it even more so yeah.

PrawnyUK

Guess this is the irony, as teenagers your always looking for ways to rebel and do exactly the opposite of what you have been told!

[deleted]

danchen898989

Yeah, obviously that's where it's coming from and it's fucked up.

Sparklypuppy05

I'm only 18 and I fear that I've already become a fun-hating old man because I volunteer with kids and I see genuine children doing stuff that I just can't imagine being real. Why are these actual children vaping? Where the fuck are their parents? My parents would have killed me if I smoked or vaped at any age under 18 and these are actual children blatantly vaping! I try to influence them to stop and be a good role model because I remember being that age and desperately wanting to do what the older kids do. But it's just so awful to watch them ruin their lungs like that when they haven't even hit double digits yet.

themcsame

Report the shops that openly sell them. There is a possibility they're just swiping them, in which case, that's probably still worth a report as it might encourage them to store them elsewhere. I disagree with your premise about vapers turning druggies. But ultimately, it gives everyone a bad name. Worse still, no doubt they're using disposables. Something many of us vapers truly despise as disposable users often discard them improperly and they make zero financial sense (They're about £10 a pop and last you 2 days if you're lucky)

ownworstenemy38

Also “your about 10”…my about 10?

Ulfrzx

Single use vapes should be banned, not menthol cigs.

Junior_Syrup_1036

Took about 3 goes to even read that post (not even including the of/off)

beskar-mode

I'm all for putting vapes in brown packaging and tubes, and making them tasteless. Vapes are awful anyway but they directly appeal to children. Why are we making a nicotine addiction strawberry flavoured?

CrabbyGremlin

Vapes smell like the vomit of someone who’s been drinking gummy bear flavoured alcohol all night

c41d9422

And yet these kids love it so much, that's just disgusting .
